Wake Up to Your True Self What if the biggest myth of self-improvement is that something about you is broken? In this episode of Richer Soul, we reconnect with spiritual guide and author Don Joseph Goewey, who shares powerful insights from the timeless work of Anthony De Mello — a man whose teachings remain profoundly relevant in our chaotic modern world. Don returns with an exciting update: a beautifully crafted awareness deck designed to distill De Mello's wisdom into bite-sized, transformative prompts. This episode is a wake-up call — not to become someone else, but to awaken to the magnificence of who you already are. Key Takeaways: “You Are Not Broken” – De Mello's radical message flips the script on self-help. There's nothing wrong with you — only layers of illusion to peel away. Soundbites of Spirituality – Don shares how Anthony De Mello mastered impactful, tweet-sized wisdom decades before social media existed. Awareness Over Achievement – True transformation doesn't come from fixing but from seeing — becoming conscious of your inner narratives and breaking free. Legacy of Light – Don discusses how the DeMello Spirituality Center is digitizing and revitalizing Anthony's archives, bringing life-changing messages to a new generation. Money Learnings: While this episode is less focused on finance, it tackles one of the greatest blocks to wealth: internal misalignment. If you believe you're broken, you'll sabotage wealth, relationships, and joy. De Mello's teachings can shift your mindset from scarcity to sufficiency — a necessary precursor to financial freedom. About Don Joseph Goewey: Don is the Executive Director of the Center for Spiritual Exchange, which manages Anthony De Mello's archives. His work spans neuroscience, spiritual psychology, and leading psycho-spiritual approaches to trauma. Don has served in high-stress environments — from refugee camps to hospital wards — helping people reclaim inner peace. He's the author of The End of Stress and continues to guide others in awakening through De Mello's work. Key Discussion Points: The origin and mission of the DeMello Spirituality Center. Anthony De Mello's core message: awakening, not fixing. Why De Mello's book Awareness remains a bestseller decades later. How the new Awareness Deck distills spiritual truths into daily prompts. The problem with most self-help: it reinforces the idea you're broken. Using soundbites to elevate consciousness. The impact of post-COVID awareness shifts. Embracing spirituality as a practice of presence, not performance. Conclusion: Pause the pursuit: Stop trying to fix yourself and start observing your internal stories. Pick up the deck: Use the De Mello Awareness Deck for a daily dose of spiritual clarity. Practice presence: Set aside 5 minutes a day to notice your thoughts without judgment. Question your programming: Ask, “Who told me I'm not enough?” and gently let go. You don't want to miss the last episode of this fall with Lora DeMello, mom, writer, educator and President of We Are Brave Together (https://www.wearebravetogether.org/). I knew immediately when I read Lora's story in the book Becoming Brave Together (https://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Brave-Together-Extraordinary-Caregiving-ebook/dp/B0D123VCRS) I wanted to share her story on The Just A Mom podcast. Lora shares so much in this episode and has so many nuggets for parents. Her daughter, Zaria, battles generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and cyclothymia. While many people told Lora her daughter's issues were because of her parenting, Lora never stopped advocating for her daughter as she faced difficulties in obtaining an Individualized Education Program (https://www.ed.gov/sites/ed/files/parents/needs/speced/iepguide/iepguide.pdf). Lora talks about the challenges of being a single mom without a lot of support and the importance of being flexible and pivoting when parenting a child with an “invisible” illness. Lora encourages parents to find community and ask for help and stresses “bite-sized self-care” (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_oy2od5u7P9qyPEvrcR72yqF8J66RGFK/view).

In this podcast episode, Dr. DeMello discusses the management of burns in a pre-hospital setting. He emphasizes the importance of following the MARCH approach and not letting the burn distract from other life-threatening injuries. He also highlights the challenges of accurately calculating the total body surface area (TBSA) affected by the burn and recommends using the serial halving method. Dr. DeMello advises against over-resuscitating with fluids and suggests using a simple fluid resuscitation protocol. He also discusses the use of oral fluids and the benefits of allowing patients to have clear fluids. Other topics covered include pain control, escharotomies, cooling the burn, and monitoring urine output. Takeaways Follow the MARCH approach and prioritize life-threatening injuries over the burn. Use the serial halving method to estimate the TBSA affected by the burn. Avoid over-resuscitating with fluids and use a simple fluid resuscitation protocol. Allow patients to have clear fluids if there is no upper airway burn or evidence of inhalational burn. Consider using ketamine for analgesia in burn patients. Cool the burn as quickly as possible, but not the patient. Monitor urine output and look for trends in color to assess for rhabdomyolysis. Provide compassionate care to reduce anxiety and pain requirements. Her WABT journey began when her daughter was diagnosed at age seven with several ‘hidden' unique needs, including OCD, ADD, GAD, and Cyclothymia, and her son was diagnosed with ADHD at age six.
