In today's episode of the Brains Byte Back podcast, we speak with Austin Yavorsky, CEO and Co-Founder of the Landian Metaverse, a decentralized metaverse creating spaces for the community to experience a new level of immersive encounters.  Austin shares how the company is working with a forward-thinking healthcare group to help patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder by allowing them to relive some of their trauma in a VR environment. He discusses how this work was carried out, and the promising results that have come from it stating that many of the participants went from taking five, six, or seven different types of antidepressants, all the way down to just a handful or none after a relatively short period of time.  And finally, Yavorsky talks about what else excites him the most about the Metaverse, and what is next on the horizon for Landian. Virtual reality is well-established in the gaming community, but data is expanding regarding its utility and effectiveness for a variety of medical conditions. In February 2020, at the annual meeting of SMFM, researchers released their findings on a randomized controlled trial using VR headsets for labor pain. In this podcast we will briefly review VR technology and its application for medical pain conditions including labor. I grew up in the wonderful late 1980’s and the early 1990’s. The hub of home video game console entertainment systems being the central focus of every teenagers evening entertainment. The original NES, Nintendo Gameboy, rival Sega Genesis, then the introduction of PlayStation and the many versions of Nintendo gaming that came after that. Maybe i am getting nostalgic with Christmas time and the release of the NES Plug & Play system that was just released (that i can’t seem to find anywhere!!) – but i digress.
