Haley O'Bryan, today's guest, is a recent graduate school graduate from California State University, Fullerton's Master of Counseling program. As she searches for her perfect post-grad therapy job, she is filling her time with research, art, and finding a rescue kitty to love. She lives in Encinitas, California. In our conversation with Haley we explore the risk and impact on those who participate in MLMs, and Haley's intention of doing so with compassion. Some of what we discussed was related to relationships, identity enmeshment & authenticity, financial stressors, our own experiences with MLMs, the relationship between diet culture and much more. Haley also shares a message to those considering joining an MLM. As we found in Haley's thesis, MLMs (Multi-Level Marketing Companies) are defined as: direct selling or network marketing. According to Groß and Vriens (2019), rather than being traditional employees, participants in MLMs are self-employed distributors who sell the MLMs' products directly to others. These distributors are generally required to directly invest in inventory from the organization to begin selling. You can find Haley at @counselorhaley @counselorzorgnax To access her Thesis and read more on this topic, head to her Instagram @counselorhaley (click on linktr.ee in her bio)

And so, to keep that all straight and to manage that in a diligent way, really requires a very specific and well thought out brand management system.” (06:34)“If you look back on it historically you gotta give them [P&G] kudos for having invented something – not just a product but the way of managing the product. You don’t refer to them as a product management approach, it’s a brand management approach. And they were able to not only exit from only thinking about product, but also evolve beyond just brand.” (11:02)“P&G invented soap operas. So, if you think about the original content marketing, that was it right there. They created content for moms in the fifties to watch – watch soap operas – so they could have commercials around them. Brilliant, isn’t it?” (22:08)“For me, the brand is really meant to be the translation to the consumer benefits and to make sure that your brand comes to mind first in the consumer’s mind. That is really the strategy that I think all brands should have.” (27:55)LINKS MENTIONEDAmpliFi Capital Corp WebsiteKevin’s LinkedInNick’s LinkedInMarco’s LinkedInAaron’s LinkedInCapsule’s Website
Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.04.30.069849v1?rss=1 Authors: Mulier, M., Van Ranst, N., Corthout, N., Munck, S., Vanden Berghe, P., Vriens, J., Voets, T., Moilanen, L. Abstract: Genetic ablation or pharmacological inhibition of the heat-activated cation channel TRPM3 alleviates heat hyperhyperalgesia in animal models of inflammation, but the mechanisms whereby the channel contributes to inflammatory pain are unknown. Here, we induced unilateral inflammation of the hind paw in mice, and directly compared expression and function of TRPM3 and two other heat-activated TRP channels (TRPV1 and TRPA1) in sensory neurons innervating the ipsilateral and contralateral paw. We detected increased Trpm3 mRNA levels in dorsal root ganglion neurons innervating the inflamed paw, as well as augmented TRP channel-mediated calcium responses, both in the cell bodies and the intact peripheral endings of nociceptors. Notably, inflammation provoked a pronounced increase in nociceptors co-expressing functional TRPM3 with TRPV1 and TRPA1, and pharmacological inhibition of TRPM3 caused normalization of TRPV1- and TRPA1-mediated responses. These new insights into the mechanisms underlying inflammatory heat hypersensitivity provide a rationale for developing TRPM3 antagonists to treat pathological pain. My guest this episode is none other than Hans Vriens, Managing Partner of Vriens & Partners, the leading firm around Southeast Asia specializing in government affairs, public policy and political risk analysis. Hans has lived and worked in Asia since the ‘90s. He’s former President of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong, former Vice Chairman of APCO Worldwide in Southeast Asia as well as a political economist at the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy in Hong Kong. He’s done it all. Literally. The work he does now involves pulling together corporations and nations. He’s like a kind of corporate marriage counselor. There are two parties who are attracted to each other, both of whom knows they have something to gain—and maybe much to gain—from the other. So far so good. But they don’t know each other all that well. And to make things more complicated, they have both been living together for so long that they’ve built up their own habits, their own ways of doing things. Hans puts them across the table with one each other and helps translate. Maybe gets them to hold hands for a while. The rest of what happens us up to them. It’s a fascinating, essential discussion. Thanks for listening.
