Trump and Netanyahu presented a proposal to end the war in Gaza. The Washington Post’s Michael Birnbaum discusses what’s in the plan — and the significant obstacles to peace that remain. The Supreme Court is preparing to start its new term next week. Lawrence Hurley of NBC News joins to break down how the Trump administration has been emboldened by a string of wins at the court. A new women’s baseball league is slated to start next year. Reporter Sabreen Dawud, who profiled the league for The 19th, explains why league leadership felt now was the right time to launch. Plus, Trump and lawmakers failed to reach an agreement to avert a government shutdown, how the EA deal became the biggest buyout in history, and a look at the contenders in this year’s Fat Bear Week. Today’s episode was hosted by Gideon Resnick.
Leah and Kate dive into the week's legal news, explaining how SCOTUS continues to carry water for the Trump administration. They also cover an epic slapdown of the Roberts Court out of Hawaii, Sam Alito's Italian sojourn, and the DOJ's refusal to investigate the wads of cash lining border czar Tom Homan's pockets. Then all three hosts are joined by special guests Sherrilyn Ifill, founding director of the 14th Amendment Center for Law & Democracy at Howard University, and New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie to discuss the Supreme Court in the years after the Civil War and Reconstruction and why that era, known as the Redemption Court, resonates with today's legal landscape.Favorite Things:Leah: Trump's Dream of Infinite Presidential Power, Jamelle Bouie (NYT); Jimmy Kimmel's comeback monologue (ABC)Kate: Chris Hayes' WITHpod episode with Bill McKibbenJamelle: “How Comedy was Destroyed by By an Anti-Reality Doomsday Cult,” Elephant Graveyard (YouTube)Sherrilyn: Charles Sumner: Conscience of a Nation by Zaakir Tameez; King of the North: Martin Luther King Jr.'s Life of Struggle Outside the South by Jeanne Theoharis Get tickets for STRICT SCRUTINY LIVE – The Bad Decisions Tour 2025! 10/4 – ChicagoLearn more: http://crooked.com/eventsOrder your copy of Leah's book, Lawless: How the Supreme Court Runs on Conservative Grievance, Fringe Theories, and Bad VibesGet tickets to CROOKED CON November 6-7 in Washington, D.C at http://crookedcon.comFollow us on Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. After a string of amazing weeks, the Brewers have topped themselves yet again. A series in Cincinnati features two unbelievable wins (and a wild near-miss), and that was after the team swept the Pirates and triggered the George Webb free-burger promotion. Milwaukee's 14-game winning streak is over, but the magical season lives on, with a huge week ahead. Brewers reporter Todd Rosiak joins host JR Radcliffe to discuss Uecker Magic, Andruw Monasterio's stunning homer, Jacob Misiorowski's rough return, Christian Yelich's MVP-level play and more. In Three Up Three Down (31:15), they discuss a draft pick's debut, 23 consecutive outs and ... has Craig Counsell really never seen a George Webb? In Remembrew When (47:15), JR puts a final bow on Team Streak. And in Todd's Take of the Week (52:00), it's one last look at this unbelievable season. Then, JR sits down with Brandon Lockridge (59:15), a newcomer to the Brewers who hadn't tasted defeat in his new uniform until Sunday. They discussed the familiar faces on the Brewers roster, his strongest attribute and his whirlwind trade-deadline week. Music intro from bensound.com.
