In this episode of Mind Your Fitness, we are joined by Aaron Flores, a registered dietitian and host of the podcast Men Unscripted, for a compelling conversation on the intersections of eating disorders, diet culture, and the male experience. Aaron shares his journey as a dietitian healing his own relationship with food/body and how unlearning traditional nutrition training helped him adopt a weight-inclusive, intuitive eating approach to support other men. He joins us to unpack how modern masculinity, performance culture, and diet trends intersect in harmful ways. From teen boys chasing gym gains to tech bros obsessed with fasting and supplements, this episode challenges how we define "health" for men. The conversation also dives into under-discussed topics like low testosterone from restrictive eating, how male libido can signal nutritional imbalance, and the gaps in identifying and supporting those men struggling with body image and/or disordered eating concerns. A must-listen for clinicians, parents, and anyone supporting men on their wellness journey. Aaron Flores is Los Angeles-based registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), Certified Body Trust® Provider, and one of the few men very active in the space of intuitive eating. “Sometimes when God needs to make a man great, he isolates him.” Olympic champion, Hunter Armstrong Today we have the HONOR of having my new friend Hunter Armstrong on the pod. He is a 2x Olympic Gold Medalist, World Record Holder for 50 meter backstroke in 2022, Ohio State 2022 Male Athlete of the Year. WOW! In this episode we talk all things: The promise in isolation Where is God in dark times? Faith in the Olympics I pray this blesses you friend!
The boys run down the 50 greatest male athletes of all time and fine some shocking omissions.
Ryan Murphy is a nine-time Olympic medal-winning swimmer, but it hasn't all been podium glory. At this summer's Paris Games, Ryan missed qualifying for the men's 100 meter backstroke by one tenth of a second. And that was after he had just won silver in the 200 meter. It's these extraordinary swings between triumph and disappointment that Ryan is so brilliant at managing. Through it all, he's learned to roll with the lows just as easily as he celebrates the highs. There are few endeavours that can match the intense 24-7, 365 day per year commitment and pressure of being an Olympian, and in this episode, we get lessons in stress management and keeping things in perspective that anyone can use. From his early years in competitive swimming when he actually vomited from nerves before every race, to his philosophical views on winning and losing, Ryan takes us through a career that's been built on family and team support, and incredible focus and drive. He also discusses his passion project, opening his St. Johns. Florida location of Goldfish Swim School, and helping to share the joyful and lifesaving skill of swimming. You don't want to miss this great conversation as we get an Olympic icon's valuable wisdom on performing under pressure, the power of a team, dealing with the unknowns, and yes, managing the expectations. About Ryan MurphyRyan Murphy began breaking records as soon as he started swimming at age 5. Through dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment, Ryan has fulfilled his academic and athletic dreams. While at the University of California, Berkeley, he won both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events at the NCAA Championships for four straight years. He holds the American Record in multiple backstroke events. In his Olympic debut in Rio, Ryan won three golds medals, sweeping the backstroke events and helping the U.S. win gold in the 4x100m medley relay, where his backstroke lead-off set a world record. As one of the most dominant swimmers in the world, the 23-year-old swept the backstroke events at the 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, won six medals (three gold and three silver) at the 2018 Swimming World Championships in Hangzhou, China, and was named the 2018 Male Athlete of the Year by USA Swimming. In 2021, he shined in Tokyo winning gold in the 4×100 meter medley relay, silver in the 200-meter backstroke and bronze in the 100-meter backstroke. A native of Ponte Vedra Beach (Jacksonville), Fla., Murphy is passionate about giving every young child the opportunity to learn how to swim and being a role model for young swimmers. Chip Kelly, the Head Coach of the UCLA Bruins football team, once remarked that he wouldn't be surprised if this episode's guest Chase Griffin wound up as President of the United States one day. And after getting to spend some time with Chase, I think Coach Kelly's expectations might actually be a little on the low side. Chase is currently a UCLA QB, and that on its own would be a pretty remarkable accomplishment. But it really just scratches the surface. You see, Chase is among the most successful college athletes in terms of name-image-likeness, the new ability of college athletes to make money marketing products and services. And with over 30 brand and charitable partnerships, Chase is VERY successful. So successful in fact, that he's TWICE been named NIL Male Athlete of the Year. In our conversation, we talk in depth about both his football and NIL experiences, and what he believes contributes to his remarkable accomplishments in each. We also discuss the advice he shares with other athletes seeking to emulate his success, what he believes the role of universities should be in supporting athletes in NIL, his feelings on sharing media revenue directly with athletes, and much, more more. And in a bit of breaking news, we even talk about possible running mates choices should he ever decide to make that run for President.
Welcome back to the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast.Today's show dives into the collision of culture, sports, and finance. We talk with Chase Griffin, a student-athlete and QB at UCLA, who has become a pioneer in the college athletics Name Image Likeness (NIL) movement and is the 2x winner of the NIL Male Athlete of the Year awards from the NIL Summit and Opendorse.Chase has excelled on and off the field, so he's no stranger to success. In high school, he was the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year, and he turned down Ivy League offers to commit to UCLA. At UCLA, he's played behind NFL draft pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson and put up strong performances on the field. Off the field, he's been a leader in the NIL movement and an exemplary scholar-athlete, to the point where his coach at UCLA, Chip Kelly, has said, “if you could buy stock in a human, buy stock in Chase Griffin.”Chase has deftly navigated the rapidly changing landscape of the NIL to secure over 30 NIL brand deals and launched the community / charity giving platform #NILforGood. He recently joined Range Media Partners as Athlete/Creator in Residence and contributes to Range business operations across Sports, NIL, Film, TV, Music, and Social Impact.Chase and I had a fascinating discussion about how the NIL could change college sports as we know it and how it will coincide with more investment into college athletics. At a time when private equity firms are investing into companies that are part of the developing NIL ecosystem and possibly even investing into collegiate athletics conferences, Chase shares his views on the impact that the NIL and financialization of sports has on athletes, colleges, pro sports, and broader student bodies.Congrats on all the accomplishments in your young career thus far, Chase. Thanks for coming on the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast to share your experiences and wisdom on the NIL.

It was once rare to hear of athletes suffering heart failure and even dying on the field. Now, it seems commonplace. At the time of publishing this video, the son of the the LA Lakers' Lebron James is among the latest to suffer a cardiac arrest while playing professional sport. Just weeks prior, a Dominican pro basketball player died of an apparent heart attack during a stress test—he had collapsed during a game in December 2021—and earlier this year the Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin collapsed from a cardiac arrest during an NFL game. Why is this phenomenon occurring more often in recent years than it did before? And why are men more likely to be affected than women? On VitalSigns, biochemical researcher Dayan Goodenowe joins host Brendon Fallon to pinpoint the factor protecting women's hearts and those factors escalating heart-failure overall. Why are heart failures occurring among professional athletes, when they are the ones intensively screened for heart problems? If this is happening to the fittest and healthiest among us, it certainly signals danger to the wider population. Which ‘silver-bullet' nutrient that shores up cell-membranes can curtail that danger? ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
