How does recognizing our deep physical and social connections change the way we understand human nature?University of Cincinnati philosophy and psychology professor Dr. Anthony Chemero joins host PJ Weary to challenge traditional Western philosophy and explore the embodied nature of cognition.Dr. Chemero unpacks his book Intertwined Creatures: The Embodied Cognitive Science of Self and Other. Together they discuss the intersection of cognitive science and feminist theory to show how deeply our environments and social circles shape who we are.In this conversation they explore: How feminist critiques of traditional philosophy reveal that our earliest experiences as infants are shared rather than isolated. The flaws of the Cartesian worldview that treats the self as a hidden mind sparsely connected to a mechanical body. Using the pub crawl from the movie The World's End to explain why viewing other people as unthinking blanks is a fundamental failure of understanding humanity. What flushing toilets and far-from-equilibrium thermodynamics teach us about the self-organizing nature of human behavior. The physical and social constraints that effortlessly coordinate our actions when we move a sofa or dance with another person. The concept of shared public moods and how our emotions are often collective rather than purely internal. This is a conversation for anyone interested in psychology and philosophy who wants to break free from the illusion of isolation and embrace a deeply connected human experience.Make sure to check out Dr. Chemero's book: Intertwined Creatures: The Embodied Cognitive Science of Self and Other

Lead Pastor Don Jackson begins a new series titled, "A Biblical Worldview". Preaching from Romans Chapter 12, Pastor Don explains why it is important to think and live according to the truth of God's Word. Online Message Notes
Today's episode is one of the most powerful mindset shifts you can make — and it's this:
Raising a Spiritual Child: Why Their Inner World Matters More Than Ever (Part 1) In today's episode of Redefine Parenting, we're diving into a powerful and often overlooked topic—raising a spiritual child. As parents, we focus so much on academics, behavior, and achievements… but what about their inner world? What about their connection to self, purpose, and something greater? I believe every child is born with a spiritual spark—and it's our job to nurture it. This isn't about religion—it's about helping our kids grow into grounded, emotionally aware, and spiritually connected human beings. When we teach our children to trust their inner voice, to lead with compassion, and to find peace in a chaotic world—we're giving them tools that last a lifetime. In this first part of our series, I'll share stories, mindset shifts, and practical ways you can start raising a mindful, self-aware, and heart-centered child—no matter where you are on your own journey. ✨ Let's raise children who don't just survive… but truly thrive from the inside out.
Keeping the Main Things the Main Things Pt 5 - Good Communication When we communicate, there are two primary necessities: To Be Heard and To Be Understood. The task of each Christian here is to learn to speak about your relationship with Jesus in a way your friends can understand. “Even musical instruments like the flute or the harp, though they are lifeless, are examples of the need for speaking plain language. For no one will recognize the melody unless the notes are played clearly…And it's the same for you. If you talk to people in a language they don't understand, how will they know what you mean? You might as well be talking to an empty room…in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words that will help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language…if unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your meeting and hear everyone talking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy.” 1 Corinthians 14: 7-9; 19; 23 NLT “Later that same day, Jesus left the house and went down to the shore, where an immense crowd soon gathered. He got into a boat, where He sat and taught as the people listened on the shore. He told many stories…” Matthew 13:1-3 NLT “Here is another story Jesus told…” Matthew 13:24 NLT “Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, He never spoke to them without using such parables.” Matthew 13:34 NLT Good Communication Matters Because… The Message of God to the World Matters! Because the Message Matters So Much… We MUST be Missionaries to this Culture “When I am with the Jews, I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with those who follow the Jewish laws, I do the same, even though I am not subject to the law, so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with the Gentiles who do not have the Jewish law, I fit in with them as much as I can. In this way, I gain their confidence and bring them to Christ…When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so I might bring them to Christ” 1 Corinthians 9:20-23 NLT “Live wisely among those who are not Christians, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answers for everyone.” Colossians 4:5 NLT Because Someone was Missionary to Us and Made the Message Clear… We have the Responsibility to Pass the Message on to Others Anyone can have a fresh start with God through Jesus Christ

DOWNLOAD KEYNOTE SLIDES 1 John 4:4, You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. Real World Application Affirmative Action was not about elevating unqualified Black people over qualified White people. It is about selecting from a pool of diverse qualified people. It is about AFFIRMING the value of people, especially marginalized people and taking ACTION in support of them. It is about creating opportunities The concept of affirming others and taking positive actions on their behalf is scriptural: "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared..." (Nehemiah 8:10) Scriptures related to affirming others and taking action Mark 12:31, Love your neighbor as yourself. Galatians 6:2, Carry each other's burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. Proverbs 3:27, Don't withhold good from someone who deserves it, when it is in your power to do so Philippians 2:4, Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others. Luke 3:10-11, The crowds asked him, 'What then should we do?' He answered, 'Whoever has two shirts must share with the one who has none, and whoever has food must do the same.' 1 John 3:17, But if someone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but refuses to help — how can the love of God dwell in a person like that? Acts 20:35, In everything I have shown you that, by working hard, we must help the weak. In this way we remember the Lord Jesus' words: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' So in this environment we must remind ourselves that the GREATER ONE lives within us. We trust God and we also look for Him to work in our circumstances, rearrange circumstances, remove ungodly people, and bring whatever is needed to make a difference. This is what is meant by the word “RELEASE.”
Mark and Eric talk about the frustration of environmental danger and capitalist corruption while unveiling the making of "On My Way to Hell." The silver lining is that 1) this world truly matters and 2 ) so does your life. Along the way, we talk about the responsibility we all have to innocent and joyful children. Most of all, we explore how faith is not about eliminating chaos and suffering, it is about how to endure suffering with grit and determination, even when things feel like a lost cause. We love you TEXT AND ROCKERS!Be good to each other, Mark Shaffer and Eric MadisonJoin the TEXT AND ROCK FACEBOOK GROUP by clicking HERE. The more you think about your life, the better it becomes. Once you open up to yourself with a new perspective and get excited for what's next in store - whether that be personal growth or anything else- everything starts coming together. The way we view our world is how we handle situations within our lives; this can determine the experiences of those who surround us as well as ourselves. When people start opening up to themselves by viewing their worlds differently and getting excited for all they have ahead of them, good things will happen.

Jackson: The World Matters Now (6.14.20) by RiverTree
A recent survey found that teenagers believe caring for the environment is more important than caring for the poor. As Generation Z grow up, it is becoming increasingly important for to equip our congregations with a biblical approach to environmentalism. My conversation with Lionel Windsor, author of Is God Green? tackles these complex issues of greed, politics, exploitation and our accountability to God. Lionel doesn't shy away from challenging us, as Christian leaders, to keep our eyes on Jesus and clearly reminds us of the responsibilities and freedom we have in Christ. We discuss some of the following questions:▪ Can you be a Christian and a miner?▪ Will God hold us accountable for the state of the environment?▪ Who should we vote for?▪ What type of causes should we encourage our congregation to financially support?I hope you take this opportunity to think seriously about how the people in your sphere of influence are approaching the environment. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and feel you’re nothing more than “dust in the wind.” Don’t our lives really count for more than to just take up space and die? Can we really make a lasting difference in this world?
