Today, we are going to focus in on 1 Cor. 13:7 to understand what love always does. Paul says, "It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Cor. 13:7). And from this "always" of love, here is the overarching truth that I want you to grasp…Love is Always ResponsibleJesus gave us the commandment to love. He said, “A new command I give you: Love one another." (John 13:34). This is not a suggestion. It's a commandment. It is a responsibility. In this message, Pastor David challenges us as spouses and family members. Listen as we explore how Scripture highlights that love is our responsibility. P.S. Which of the four challenges are you going to take on this week? Happy Valentine's Day, Rom Criminals. We are coming at you hot with a pop up minisode to celebrate love in all forms. This week Vonia tells the story of Melissa Dohme and her brutal experience that led her to the love of her life. Spoiler it was the firefighter / EMT who saved her life at the scene of the crime. We are dying over this story. When the doctors told her she would likely never talk or walk again, Melissa only heard her own voice saying...YES I WILL! And my goodness, she did and while thanking the first responders who saved her. Spark flew! This courageous story ends well. Her positive outlook and determination is so inspiring and we strive to be like her in tough times. Melissa has gone on to speak out about Domestic Violence today. Learn more about your ad choices. This week as we dive deeper into the fullness of life available to us, we'll look today at the biblical concept of understanding and how it relates to experiencing God. May God shift your perspective today and bring you into greater fullness of life in your relationship with him. What's beautiful about God is that no matter where you're at in your walk with him, there is always more. Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 145:18, and today's worship is Yes I Will by Vertical Worship. -- We are so excited to share our latest worship song, Coming Through, featuring Jeremiah Brinkley! Check it out on the various streaming platforms here or over at our YouTube channel, here! -- What started as a daily email devotional in 2015 has grown into a worldwide movement of over 2.6 million men and women connecting with God every day through our app, First15 Worship, Primeros15, our Spanish-language platform, our podcast, and live and virtual events. What is hope? Where does it come from, and how do we find it? During the first week of Advent, we focus in on hope to remind ourselves that is a person and His name is Jesus. When we find our hope in the person of Christ, who came as Emmanuel - God with us - we find something to cling to that will never disappear, and will never fail. Today, Tyler Noel (Worship Associate at Calvary Church) and his wife, Shyanne, join us to share about what it meant for them to cling to hope after loss. When it would have been easy to ask, “Why, God?” they intentionally leaned in a little closer to seek out what God was doing in the midst of their grief. Tune in to hear their perspective on what it means to pursue a life of hope. This week, Zach talks about the good news of Jesus. In just 2 simple verses, Jesus reveals his character and his mission. To fulfill a promise, to bring God close, to defeat sin, and to believe in him. When you think about your life up until this point, who is Jesus to you? That's the question to ponder this week… (11/28/21)

Alright! Thanks for checking in CA, MI, KS, OH, TX and wherever you may be today. You are not listening to this by accident. Most of you are very striving to get more real and pursue some Truth. Implement what works on this broken planet and avoid what doesn't. We got 2 plays of the week for you! 2! Double your money. Going to start off things with Gemechis Buba talking about 'Horizontal vs. Vertical' thinking and your mindset in life. Then going to relay it back to Dr. Bryan Lorrits. He is quickly becoming an All-Star FriDude and a favorite here. You get to break it down and implement as you wish. If you dig, more details on where to find their entire messages, links, etc. Here you go...I love Gemechis' take on 'Horizontal vs. Vertical' thinking. Which way do you lean more? Clearly, we are all about getting more vertical. Are you familiar with that saying street smart and book smart. Horizontal really explains them. Think of a college professor or that super smart kid in school. So book smart, yet can be so clueless in other ways. So here is a concept that I bet not many have heard. Are you God Smart? Jesus Smart? Holy Spirit Smart? That would be the vertical thinking that Gemechis was talking about. If that sounds silly to you then it's fair to say you are definitely more horizontal and relying on this broken planet to satisfy you - which will eventually be abject failure. You are putting our faith to flaws and flawed people. So for the vertically inclined, that is why you are here. You are seeking wisdom. You are intrigued or fully engaged with the vertical. God is the ultimate source of wisdom. You need to crack the book, the Owner's Manual, and then ask for understanding. And then it starts popping and it will for the rest of your life. It is that fact of why we have the 'Deeper Series'.As for Finishing Well, I love Dr. Bryan Lorrits' style. He uses the vertical to explain how to navigate the challenges of the horizontal. You have a 100% chance of dying from something. If you believe in the Bible, you know it says that will give an account for our life here. So of course, finish well. Finish strong. It is our goal to keep encouraging you to do that. As promised, if you would like to listen to the entire message of Bryan and Gemechis. For Bryan, search for the Bryan Lorrits podcast, "Finishing Well" published on August 27, 2020. For Gemechis Buba, you can find his message at Hosannalc.org, 'James - Week 5' published on August 30, 2020.Ending on a song note, you want to go more vertical? What you tune into will help determine that. This is "Yes I Will" by Vertical Worship. If you dig, please add it to your going more vertical playlist. Now, go, get more vertical, love, serve...

Though being repeatedly warned of the danger that awaits him in Jerusalem, the apostle Paul continues forward, “ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 21:13). Each of us is called to follow Jesus, but we do so not sure of where he may lead us. Might the Spirit of God strengthen us to follow him wherever he may lead and would we move forward confidently regardless of what is to come. 1. Paul was convinced (vs 22-24)2. When Demetrius, a silversmith, causes a riot, the author of Acts, Luke, is careful to record all that transpired. While the gospel will necessarily put us at odds with others regarding what we believe and hold to be true, we are to seek peace in the places that God puts us and never bring discredit to the name of Christ. While Paul waited for his teammates in Athens, Acts 17:16 says, “his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols.” Rather than be cold, indifferent or angry at the depravity that surrounded him, the apostle Paul was moved into action by it. Paul began reasoning with people in the synagogue and the marketplace and we should be quick to follow his example. Rather than feeling frustration with the unbelieving world around us, we should be moved into action.1. Holy passion (v. 16)2. The right response (vs. 17-18a)3. A mixed reaction (v. 18b)4. Physically and emotionally exhausted after his tremendous victory, Elijah's faith weakens and he becomes afraid when threatened by Queen Jezebel and runs away. Rather than chastise him, God sends an angel to provide for Elijah's physical needs and restores his strength. Following God's leading does not ensure a smooth and trouble-free life. After setting a young slave girl free of demonic possession, her owners turn on Paul and Silas and drag them before the rulers who have them beaten by rods and thrown in prison. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Life's full of choices, isn't it? The funny thing is, even when we don't intentionally choose a response, we have still made a choice. Vertical Worship's song, "Yes I Will," reminds us that we can choose to bless the Lord at all times. King David made that choice, and this week we explore one of the songs he wrote to remind himself of God's faithfulness. On this episode I discuss: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture - this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Repetition Consider the opposite Make a list Share with a friend Putting on a garment of praise as we studied last week in Episode 282 My "Garment of Praise" Spotify playlist - Spotify Vertical Worship's teaching moment using this week's song - YouTube Video Avoiding the one-and-done mentality by reading Psalm 34 repetitively Evaluating our choices What is the choice? What are the options? What are the consequences of choosing the different options? How will my choice affect other people? Evaluating our choice to "bless the Lord at all times" - Psalm 34:1 Breaking apart the results of your choices (once the dust has settled) How the ultimate level of maturity come when you make predetermined choices Examining Psalm 34 section by section Additional Resources Lyrics and chords - Essential Worship A Teaching Moment behind "Yes I Will" by Vertical Worship - YouTube Video This Week's Challenge Take up residence in Psalm 34 this week. Ponder what you've learned about choices while learning much about the character of God in this psalm. Make lists and consider the repetitive phrases/ideas in this psalm (there are more than we discussed on the podcast). Talk to someone about what you've been studying (that's another BITE by the way). Finally, let it sink in that you're choosing...whether you're choosing to bless the Lord at all times, sometimes, or not at all...you're choosing. Will you choose to bless the Lord this week? Will you place HIS praise on your lips today?
Today is the 3rd week of a message series called Yes I Will. Today we are reading from Daniel chapter 6 where we see an example of faith lived out. Although Daniel could’ve lost his life, he chose to honor God no matter what. Not by power not by might but by God’s Spirit Daniel found the courage to stay faithful.

The young churches in Crete lacked biblical leadership, so the apostle Paul encourages Titus to “appoint elders in every town” (Titus 1:5) and gives him a picture of the kinds of leaders he should be looking for. While not everybody will be called to serve in an official leadership role in the church, the qualities and characteristics of an elder should be the pursuit of us all. 1. The disciples seek to make preparations for the celebration of the Passover and Jesus foretells of his coming betrayal. At the Passover meal, Jesus institutes what we will come to call The Lord's Supper and identifies himself with the bread and the cup. When Jesus foretells of Peter's coming denial, Peter emphatically rejects it. When we approach the Lord's table today, we are reminded of his body given for us and his blood shed for the forgiveness of our sins.1. His plan (vs. 12-16)2. God's purpose (vs. 17-21)3. John 3:16 is likely the most well-known verse in scripture but looking at the context of this verse gives it even more richness. In verses 1-15 we read of Jesus' interaction with Nicodemus and the timeless truths Jesus shares with him. We see a beautiful balance of truth and love demonstrated by Jesus. We also see how our ultimate worth is revealed by Christ's sacrificial love for us. 1. Truth (vs. 1-15)2. While his opponents fail to recognize Jesus for who he is, Jesus warns his followers of those who give only the appearance of faithfulness. When a poor widow makes a small contribution, Jesus commends her generosity and faith. We need remember that God looks at the heart and, though our efforts may not be celebrated by others, God sees and recognizes our faith. 1. Veiled glory (vs. 35-37)2. Hidden hypocrisy (vs. 38-40)3. The opponents of Jesus persist in their efforts to try and trap and discredit Jesus. They first question him in regards to the paying of taxes to Caesar, and then challenge him on the legitimacy of the resurrection of the dead. In both cases, Jesus shows he is more than up to the challenge. We need be mindful that when we bring our questions to Christ, if only trying to prove our own point, we too will find the wisdom of Christ far exceeds our own. 1. An effort to discredit (vs. 13-14)2. Jesus knew their hypocrisy (vs. 15-17)3. An attempt to ridicule (vs. 18-23)4.
