You can check out Rudy V and Juliet Mendoza's set on Subliminal Radio's soundcloud page. Enjoy!

Happy new year all! Hope this mix finds you well. Here, you have another of the themes in Chaka Delic's "world of music." Not quite sure how to describe the sounds here, but if forced to would say that there are sprinkles of disco, "nu-disco," "neo-soul," a smidgen of techno leaning sounds. Anyhow, hope you all enjoy. More to come from me this year for sure!
Back to the old school and done the old school way (All vinyl, two turntables and a mixer). This mix showcases a different aspect of the sounds I like - soul and a bit of disco funk. It's more about the journey and selection here; not claiming to break the ultra rare and elusive, although you certainly won't find a couple of these easily and/or without paying good money for it. :) The mix is roughly the set I played for the Beat Swap Meet in Los Angeles on September 15, 2013; roughly because I recorded this after and not when I played and because I can't be certain that the tracks in this particular set are identical to the Beat Swap Meet set. The track listing is as follows: 1. Atmosfear "Xtra Special" (Dry mix) [Elite Records Ltd., 1982] 2. The Cool Notes "Spend the Night" [Abstract Records, 1985] 3. Patrice Rushen "Feels So Real (Won't Let Go)" [Elektra, 1984] 4. Gladys Knight & the Pips "Save the Overtime (For Me)" [Columbia, 1983] 5. Whodini "Five Minutes of Funk" [Jive, 1984] 6. I Level "Give Me" [Epic/Virgin, 1982] 7. Gwen Guthrie "Should've Been You" [Island Records, 1982] 8. Project Future "Ray-Gun-Omics" [Capitol Records, 1983] 9. Love Unlimited Orchestra (presents Charles Webster) "Welcome Aboard" [Unlimited Gold Records, 1981] 10. Charles Earland "Intergalactic Love Song" [Mercury, 1976] 11. Bloodfire VIII "Bloodfire vs. Creative Source" [Bloodfire, 2011] 12. GQ "Someday" [Arista, 1980] Enjoy!
Fancy new mix I whipped up this past Mother's Day weekend. I think mum would have enjoyed the sweet aspect of this more than the bitter. Nevertheless, she would have delighted in it all. RIP! This one is a journey from the sweet to the bitter, although, truth be told, even the bitter is kind of sweet. Broken beat, house, latin flair, bass heavy sounds -- all in here. Shokazulu, Rima, Jazztronik and more in the cut. Enjoy!
I was motivated to do this by the Tatham, Mensah, Lord & Ranks release, the fact that it's been a while since I've made a mix, and a rainy day in Los Angeles, This was randomly put together, i.e. no predetermined concept or order. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making the mix. Yes, the second song is from the Tatham, Mensah, Lord & Ranks release -- "Mind Skies." Get that album if you know what's good for your health!! :)
The title is a tribute to champions; a doff of the hat to legacy builders and those who leave awe and inspiration for us both in the here and now and after they've left this earth. It takes grit, steel, stamina, resolve, and focus to be a true champion. This week, I'm reminded of that through Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Anderson Silva, but the concept extends far beyond sports and even into the realm of music. Salute!
Okay ladies and gents, this mix is about travelling into the realm of the hardcore. It is definitely not everyone's cup of tea but I am compelled to do it as I'm interested in airing out the full range sounds that are me. So, this is another in the series of peeling the onion, so to speak. :) Turn it up and feel the bass. Playlist as follows: 1. Yellowtail "7 Monks of Kilimanjaro" 2. Ceramic "Bodyshock" (Ceramic mix) 3. T Williams "People's Choice" (F Dat Remix) 4. Skittles "Dot 2 Dot" 5. Landslide "Parables" (Ramadanman remix) 6. Moyza & Wijay "Leaving the Dream" 7. Altered Natives "Galactic" 8. Rocco "Tumbadora" (Dub) 9. Dovie Cote "Everything Good for You" (Sean Smith's Respect! Dancefloor mix)
The long awaited slow-speed. Pleased to drop some hip hop type joints here. Anyhow, the goal here was simply to drop some joints I'm feeling regardless of whether they are recent or not. As a parting comment, much respect to everybody that does THEIR thing to the fullest. It's not all about ONE type of music 100% of the time. This time, I'm including a playlist because people like my mate, Black Monk, need to be known about AND it's only fair that I spread the word about these artists. In the past I've not done one because I've felt it encourages a research type mentality rather than a checking-out-the-vibe mentality. I've always shared the playlist though upon request. Anyway, here goes: 1. Patchworks "Velvet & Dust Anthem" 2. Black Monk "More Stuff" (unreleased) 3. Joy Jones "Hollywood" 4. DJ Vadim "Quand Vient La Nuit" 5. DJ Mitsu "A Word to the Wise" featuring Grap Luva 6. Pete Rock "Intrigue" 7. Fujimoto Tetsuro "Matting Craft" 8. Emcee Sin "Foreplay" (Altered Natives production/Eye 4 Eye Recordings Promo) 9. 6th Borough Project "Settle" 10. Holly Roller Productions "Skooling" (IG Culture on the buttons here) 11. Karizma "Time" As for the artwork, well, "what more can I say, top billing," as Audio Two says. Once again, Djembe's fantastic artwork. This piece is called "Peaceful Tiger." I encourage you to check out Djembe's (Joe's) website to learn more about his art -- www.djembeandcanvas.com
Been away for a while; thinking, reflecting, reading, playing futbol like my life depends on it (it actually heavily does), making silent moves to strengthen all aspects of myself. Anyway, I felt that it was about time I communicated what's going on in my musical corner of the world (for those that care and happen to be listening). You'll hear bits of afro-house, bits of Cajmere (Karizma & Spen flip of Brighter Days), DJ Micks, Osunlade and other lesser (or hardly known) gems (always got to keep these in the portfolio). Hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it. The artwork, once again, is from my mate Joe. This particular piece is called Hayagriva. The description of the piece is as follows: "The nomadic population in Tibet and Mongolia adopted him as the protector of horses and the Buddhist faith. Hayagriva's voice is thunder-like, akin to a horse roaring with the power to subdue all demonic forces." Cheers, Joe! Check out djembeandcanvas.com. Joe's got some really great pieces up there!
Ladies and gents, happy new year! A belated offering from me, as I meant to release this mix at the end of 2010. More vocals in this one than is normally the case with me, but vocals makes the ladies ... well, dare i say? :) I will say though that those fascinated by 007 (James Bond) should delight in the very last song, an Andre Lodemann twist up of Joey Negro's twist up of a Bond theme song (which Negro entitles "Another World" under the guise of Akabu), which I think was taken from the countdown in Moonraker, though I'll have to verify. This is sure to have you doing your jumping jacks or whatever passes for dancing. Enjoy! :) More to come in 2011!
Every mix now seems to have its story, it's purpose. The tale here is simple -- afro-house twinkles to get you bobbin' and weavin'! I ran away from the lions and cheetahs in the serengeti plains barely escaping with my life to bring you these afro-house treasures. And for the beats that the lions and cheetahs were able to pry away from me, I managed to find supplements right here in the U.S./Canada from the likes of Trinidadian Deep and the mysterious Agev Munsen. In terms of artwork, my mate Joe (Djembe) did the piece. It is entitled "Yakumba." Holler at him to find out more about his art (djembeandcanvas.com) Enjoy and break a wishbone for me on turkey day!
I had been meaning to make a purely broken beat mix for a while now and finally got around to it. I didn't want to make it about "classics" necessarily, but I wanted to flex the side of the music that is clever, melodic, moody, under-appreciated and/or not that well-known (the songs and not necessarily the artists), and, yes, in parts danceable. So, here it is. You're going to hear some Domu, Aybee (Misha's Matrix), Altered Natives (remix of Greymatter's "Eu Fumo"), Agent K, Jonny Miller and more. Big ups to all the producers that live, breathe and make this music and all other dope music for that matter. Cheers!
This one is a one take, no edits, no mastering mix. Conceptually, the idea was to keep things kind of groovy and sophisticated. At the same time, I wanted to reach for that part of my repertoire of sound that I hardly showcase. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out in the end, especially because the sound defies easy categorization or classification. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. :)
It's taken a while to post this, but this was a set I played @ Tighten Up shortly before the WMC in Miami. It contains the signature hit "Superman" by Black Coffee, among other tunes. If you're sick of that tune by now, remember that I did this mix back in March! And, for the record, I still love this song. Anyhow, plenty of other tunes to be just as excited about -- from Ron Trent to Karizma. Enjoy!
I reALLY wanted to lay down a World Cup Mix, being the football fanatic that I am. Given that the end of the Cup is rapidly approaching, I wanted to engage in the spirit of things by releasing this mix now rather than later. That said, understand that I've sacrificed perfection (not that I ever could have achieved that) in place of getting this mix out immediately while we are still gripped with World Cup fever. The mix features football commentary from the 1970 World Cup final in Mexico, which Brazil won. The choice to use that commentary is based on the fact that it was Pele's final World Cup and he excelled in the final match against Italy. Furthermore, Brazil set the standard in terms of the beauty of the game that every team since then has aspired to emulate. So, yes, I know Brazil is out of the 2010 Cup, but the Brazil commentary in this mix is more of a tribute to the game played at its highest levels by the best team in the history of the World Cup and by the best player that the world has produced in the history of the sport. In terms of music, there's bits of broken, bits of afro house and bits of house. Hope you enjoy it. Long live the music and the beautiful game. Cheers!
Quick burst of energy from me right before my man Lars Behrenroth laced us with a dope set for our 2 year anniversary. Enjoy!
This is a 10 pm set I performed @ Tighten Up. It's early, so the idea is to raise the temperature ever so slightly; before the twinkle toe dancing and baby powder action begins. It's about sophistication! :) If you see me and like this mix, ask me for the cd version, which is way cleaner than the upload, for some bizarre reason, and is wav. format. Anyway, enjoy and Merry Christmas!
Just wanted to post an older mix to tide you over until an end of the year mix that I'm planning to do real soon!
This is a collection of broken, house and other bits that I laid down for Kristi Lomax's Restless Soul show on August 16, 2009. Now that it isn't up on the audio archives, I thought I'd share it. This is a clean version of the mix. The version as played on air is forthcoming.
House and broken cuts with a moody twist.
This is a house and broken mix that I laid down late last year. Enjoy
This is a live, unedited house set I played at 1 am at Tighten Up in Santa Monica. See the flyer for details. Check us out! Chaka
