Join Alex and Elijah every Friday as they go over the biggest news in gaming. We also discuss the most recent games we have been playing, but most likely Elijah is just replaying Suikoden or Dragon Age for the millionth time. Also if you're lucky you just might hear one of the many tangents they go…
Welcome Back! I have a longer than normal solo episode today as there is quite a bit to talk about this week. Of course, Black Myth Wukong has gained an incredible amount of sales and inversely Concord launched to an absolute disaster. Plenty to piece out in the aftermath of both launches alongside the save corruption drama of Star Wars Outlaws. Outside of new game releases we have to discuss the new partnership between Remedy and Annapurna in making new films and/or tv shows. Plenty of rumors to discuss this week as the PS5 Pro has been fully leaked in terms of the official name and its design. In the actual show we take the time to actually hash out the situation at Bungie as reported by Bloomberg. Concord's disastrous release, and the strange announcement of Indiana Jones. All that and more of the expected this week. Thank you for taking the time with me today and I will see you next week! A PlayStation State of Play has come and gone so we have a little update from Sony to talk about. Fourteen games were shown and were given the PlayStation limelight. For a State of Play it was quite good however, as you will see in the show, I disagree heavily with how Concord was shown and "pitched" to us. Let me know if you agree or disagree below. I will let the show do most of the talking this week. Speaking of this week, hopefully the extra videos this week do not bother anyone out there as I am attempting a new direction for the channel. Always let me know your thoughts of course. Until next week, Go Achieve! This is a casual episode of just talking about some subjects in gaming that has hit my mind throughout the conversation. I do not have much to add here unlike how it usually is in the description. We have a more active week in gaming news than expected as The Final Shape, Destiny 2's latest expansion, was leaked by Sony through an interesting workaround via Sony's cloud servers. This lead to a lot of the details of the expansion to be out there and if you believe some you had enough time to fully play the campaign so beware of spoilers. Other than this Sony actually shot themselves in the foot in another way but we will cover that in the show. Other than that the news was somewhat light as the State of Play, as of recording this, was due very soon so expect the video breaking that down to be live.
Well here we are as this week has changed from a noneventful week as it has been for awhile now to something feels like it has fundamentally changed in the Xbox ecosystem specifically to the fan and economic side. Since something so interesting happened I took the chance to grab Emmett Watkins Jr. on the show to give his thoughts on Xbox both closing four studios one being a seemingly successful studio in Tango Gameworks and how Game Pass seems to have changed its entire structure to an almost Activision like house of cards. I think this is a great episode but I only know that if I hear from you so let me know your thoughts on this show and any points in the show in the comments below. Thank you for your time! A quick impressions video about my playtime in Stellar Blade. I am still early in but I feel like something is special about this game. Now to be clear, this is no Lies of P where a game comes out of nowhere and takes us all of guard but this game feels very fun and I think there is something here for a lot of people even though on the surface it seems very much geared to a specific subset of people. 2024 is almost halfway through and we are inching closer to nearly 10,000 lost jobs this year alone. It seems we are at a troubling time in the industry as on the surface Gaming is making more money than ever before and is ahead of all of its competitors in terms of money earned. However, ballooning budgets, economic effects, and much more factors are hurting the industry in its most important and weakest section, money. Combine all these factors are I believe gaming's future is uncertain. We know from much smarter people than I that gaming is not growing which is causing the big competitors to get creative on how they will increase their margins. That is what I want to discuss today, not to find a solution to this but to start a conversation on the how and why and what in the future may change. As always I thank you for taking the time to listen and read my little message and I hope you are well and continue to be so. Until the next time!
We have yet another slower news week as there is not much to talk about but that lets us delve a bit deeper into any subject I bring up! As always I thank you for taking the time. Stellar Blade is out and reviews are pretty good but it seems the narrative is rather weak. Eiyuden Chronicles is out too. No Rest for the Wicked and Hades 2 are getting some early testing via early access for No Rest and a tech test for Hades 2 which will be quickly followed by early access for the game. Fallout as a franchise is gaining more popularity due to the show's success. And much more to discuss but if I may divert from the description a bit it feels so quiet out there I wonder if we are due for a major news story soon or not. Who knows but anyways thank you for stopping by and I will see you next week! Well we have some catching up to do so let's get into it. Dragon's Dogma 2 has taken over the gaming sphere and I want to give my thoughts on my pretty deep experience with the game. Unfortunately there will be no Baldur's Gate 3 DLC and that breaks my heart. Some new looks at Marvel 1943 and Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. Apple is being sued to break up their Apple Market. Assassin's Creed Jade has been delayed a year although I am not sure if anyone even cares. Toys for Bob has been let go with an agreement with Microsoft. A small look at the all digital Xbox Series X. And for the main show let's talk about Gearbox breaking out of Embracer and Connie Booth has found a new working spot at EA. As always we end with Date Updates and What's Queued Up. That is all for this week and I will be getting back to more Dragon's Dogma and my life in general, thank you so much for watching and gifting your time and until next week! Well that just happened *cue audience laughter*, forgive me as it has been a rather tense week as we will be discussing the Sweet Baby inc. Steam Page situation as many are dupping this event as if it's a sequel to a movie from a certain well known vastly overrated “culture” collision that happened prior so it is important to take the necessary time to talk about this. Now as this I am sure is sensitive to many out there I ask you enter this with an open mind and try to check your assumptions at the door so we can try and talk kindly and thoughtful about this. Although I do not think this will be a problem with anyone interacting with this video as I have only had incredible experiences with you, the achievers, I think it should be said as this video could go out to people who do not regularly listen. Honestly the news was relatively light and I wanted the majority of the video discussing Sweet Baby inc. so apologies if you were looking for a break from the “discourse”, I will see you next week (lol). Anyways I wanted to come at this with an open mind and hopefully I was able to coherently display both sides and clearly explain the situation. If you have any issues with my portrayal let me know in the comments and we will have a talk about it! As always and it's important for this subject matter I do not give out my thoughts expecting no feedback or recourse let me know your thoughts in the comments or tweet at me. Talk to you next week! Well then, We have a slower news week than usual however I think this gives us a chance to dig a little deeper into the topics that stand before us. Some news on Remedy gaining the rights to Control. EA games canceled the long reported Star Wars FPS game coming from Respawn. Some light rumors this week but nothing too insane. As for the main show, Rooster Teeth has shuttered as Warner Bros. shut down the 21 year studio after many years of not running profits. We do a roundup on Xbox's Third Party showcase and then end the show on a light date update and then whats queued up. I hope you enjoy the episode and let me know what you think about the show, my thoughts on the topics, and anything else in the comments or tweet at me. See you next week! Emmett joins me again this week to discuss a HEAVY episode. We have some Sony financials to discuss, the Xbox business update, and a lot more. Hiroki Totoki, interim Head of PlayStation, has some straightforward and clear messaging about what he thinks about the PlayStation division. Xbox tells us how they are justifying going to a third party. And Switch 2 may have been delayed past this year. Finally we have some deep conversations around these topics like overspending in the games industry to the point many high profile games are afraid to start original and instead go for an adaption to help spike the initial sells and interest. Its funny I have barely touched on what is in the episode so I will leave you to watch and think about. Make sure, if you have the time and inclination, to leave a comment or talk to me on Twitter about your thoughts on the show and any disagreements you may have. Well we had a huge news outbreak didn't we? Rumors galore of Xbox moving to a multiplatform publishing route. Everything from Sea of Thieves to Halo to Gears of War. Now why is that and how did we get here? Well I have on today Dan from Podcast PXN just that, if the rumors have weight, and to discuss what could be the end goal for Xbox and how they could get there with this strategy. Will they exist for the long term? Was this inevitable with the introduction to Game Pass? We had a fascinating conversation and I hope you enjoy! See you in the comments. We were blessed with a State of Play and, well, we do not know Sony's 2024 anymore than we did before BUT we got a look at more of their partners filling in the unknown of this year with Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin. We got some compelling software shown for their seemingly soft sold PSVR2 in Legendary Tales and Metro Awakening. But if you ask me friend my game of the show is nearly tied but is given slightly to Judas, Ken Levine's return to games in a very long time. A close second being Death Stranding 2 a fascinating game that I frankly barely understand and that makes me so excited. Welcome back, although we do not have huge news to go over this week we have plenty to discuss. Rumors of the Halo BR game are now saying it was canceled. RockSteady co-founders have finally shown what they are doing and have opened a studio in London. An Until Dawn movie is being made strangely. I breakdown the Xbox Developer Direct and talk about what was shown there. Our big discussion this week is centered around Xbox as I see them as the biggest “deal” in gaming currently as they are making moves that could sculpt the industry for years to come if their bet pays off. This specific issue needs an entire video dedicated to it one day and I will eventually do that but I want someone on that episode so once I find someone I will do it. Description Insomniac was a victim of a large breach detailing much about the companies plans for the next decade plus and financials for many of their games and PlayStation's. Unfortunately with that information came a lot of personal information of the employees at Insomniac. Let's first talk about the news of the leak, or breach as it probably should be called, which is pertinent to the show like the decade plus of releases we can expect from that as well as incredibly interesting sales data. I do want to be clear though, this is NOT meant to be a full deep dive into the leak, I will not be going over specifics to games like plot spoilers or specific lengths of the games, like the number of missions or anything similar to that, this is meant to be a broad overview of most of the early things found in the leaks. I made a list above this to show exactly what I did and did not cover so you can be sure I did not cover anything you do not want to hear. Important information for the TimeStamps, I tried to keep the timestamps “spoiler free” as in I do not name games in them as I know some people do not want to partake in the specifics of the leak and may only want to engage in a discussion about the leaks/breaches and how the gaming industry handled this specific one. Lots to talk about ahead of the Game Awards and luckily my illness that kept me from this show has passed so let's catch up! We have GTA 6 to talk about as we have a trailer and seemingly a console launch only in 2025 missing PCs. Last of Us Part 2 is getting a PS5 port and a new mode that is a roguelike called No Return. Embracer continues its fiery collapse before our eyes. Bungie has a problem with possibly having their board dissolved and much more this week. As stated in the video if you are looking for a Game Awards breakdown that will be live shortly after this goes live so check the channel periodically. Thank you for your time this week. Let me know what you think of the show in the comments below.
The Game Awards nominees have come and my former co-host Alex and I sat down to talk about the various nominees, categories, and the games' industry response to both. Well, I had quite a surprising guest this week. Nick Calandra has had an insane 48 hours. As you have no doubt heard by now, Nick Calandra was the Editor in Chief at The Escapist and was fired on 11/6 by the parent company of The Escapist, Gamurs. Almost instantly after this firing, nearly the entire team at The Escapist either was fired or resigned shortly after. Upon that, Nick immediately put his “misfortune” into high gear and launched Second Wind, a continuation of the video team at The Escapist, now free from the corporate shackles that Gamur had on them. In that short 48 hours, they have already launched their own Patreon, a YouTube channel, and Twitch, ready to go for content that may be ready as you are reading this. Nick and I talk about how he found himself at The Escapist and what may have led to his firing. We also go into the realities of Second Wind, some of his plans going forward, and how it seems the industry is ignoring this whole situation altogether. This was an incredible conversation, and I thank Nick for donating his time to the show and answering my questions. Make sure to check out the relevant channels below this description. Spider-Man 2 has been released, and I did something incredibly rare for me: I completed the game in about three days. This made creating a spoilercast a no-brainer, and I was joined by the former co-host of the Easy Achievers podcast, Alex. I hope you enjoy the episode as much as I did recording it, and I'm still thinking about the game nearly three days after finishing it. Thank you so much for your support, and until next time!
We have finally seen what the PS5 Slim is, and, at least for me, it is a disappointment. Let's talk about what they are adding to one of the best-selling systems ever made and what they are taking away. The rumor roundup was interesting this week, as I got to gush about one of my favorite games of the year, 'Lies of P,' as there may be DLC coming to the game. 'Lords of the Fallen' reviews are out, as well as 'Assassin's Creed Mirage,' so I'll talk a little bit about both games. Disney may enter the gaming market more aggressively soon. And of course, the usual segments to end the show. "Lies of P" has taken me and my co-host (Alex) by quite a surprise, as it's one of the rare games that has captured all of my attention and made me fall in love with it quite quickly. This title, developed by Round8 Studios, has gone above and beyond in showing me that an unknown studio can come out of nowhere and deliver an incredible game in a year filled with hit titles. We gathered today to discuss the intricate story filled with lies and deceit, and of course, talk about THAT scene at the end.
Well, on a random Tuesday, we witnessed the most significant leak in Xbox history, courtesy of none other than Xbox themselves, revealed through their filing in the current FTC case regarding the Activision Blizzard King purchase. I don't intend to exaggerate, but this leak dwarfs any previous ones experienced by the American company. It divulges roadmaps outlining their vision for the Xbox ecosystem, strategies to achieve industry dominance by 2030, and an audacious plan to quadruple their Game Pass subscriber base within the same timeframe. Additionally, there's a treasure trove of information about upcoming systems, controllers, and hardware plans, and even with over 150 documents at hand, there's still more to uncover. I aimed to produce this video promptly to facilitate our discussion and help connect the dots between what we now know and what we can infer. Thank you for joining me today, and remember whatever you do to support the channel means the world to me. Don't forget to like, share with a friend, and subscribe. Until next time, go achieve! Well, we have a week dedicated to a giant conversation surrounding Unity's baffling pricing decision to charge per install... or was it? Many were quick to point out the flaws in the scheme, of which there were many, but few discussed the core reason outside of the obvious revenue generation. So let's discuss it here. Remember, this is always a discussion, a variable roundtable if you will, so if you agree or disagree with anything said, let me know in the comments or tweet at me. Moving on to less contentious news, we have both a Nintendo Direct and a PlayStation State of Play to talk about and digest as we are barreling out of this year at what feels like a lightning pace. My Honest Starfield Impressions, Thoughts and Feelings by Alex and Elijah
It's been a light news week, as everyone has avoided Starfield announcements like the plague. However, we do have some things to discuss. The Suikoden remaster has been delayed, an Xbox Head of Japan has been appointed, and Indiana Jones is set to have an actual reveal next year. The Rumor Roundup is light, but we have some sources in the gaming rumor space saying Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development – not surprising, of course. SAG-AFTRA strikes might be coming to the gaming industry. An interesting quote came from Shawn Layden, former chairman of SIE Worldwide, talking about the various competitors that could disrupt the industry. As always, thank you for supporting the show in whatever way you do. See you next week. The gaming industry, particularly the Xbox side, has found itself in somewhat of a frenzy when discussing the viability of the Series S. The question at hand is whether it should continue to receive updates with the same games as the Series X. In case you're not aware, it's a requirement to release your game on both the Series S and Series X when launching on the Xbox platform. Over the years, some developers have expressed concerns and issues with this policy, especially as we move further away from the initial launch of these devices. With the launch of Baldur's Gate 3, it was initially excluded from the Xbox platform until the Phil Spencer meeting at Gamescom. This situation has raised many questions about whether it's worthwhile to maintain this policy, as it could potentially deter significant publishers and developers from releasing their games on the platform. What are your thoughts on this matter? Of course, we still have the rest of the show to cover, as several noteworthy events have occurred, including Nvidia's staggering revenue, the closure of the Xbox 360 Store, Bioware's layoffs affecting 50 employees, and more. We appreciate you joining us this week, and regardless of how you choose to show your support, thank you so much. Lets talk about the newest expansion coming to Destiny 2 in February 2024. The Final Shape was detailed in Bungie's latest deepdive in their last expansion in the Light and Darkness saga giving an overview on new systems to expect, new exotics, new supers, the new world of "The Pale Heart" that is inside the traveler and more.
It's been quite a slow news week, but as everyone knows, that doesn't stop me from talking. This week, we have some news: Nintendo will finally be releasing a new console next year. This news has sparked a debate about whether there will be backwards compatibility for the new console and if Nintendo will carry over existing purchases to the new system. One of my favorite parts of sitting down with you every week is randomly finding a nugget of news to go on, which leads to what I believe is a great tangent that initiates a compelling thought/discussion. This discovery was made this week with the Xbox Series X rumor suggesting that there will be a discless version of the system to potentially reduce both the size and cost of the system. Will this setup allow Microsoft to introduce a mid-gen refresh with a potentially new system? Or will Phil Spencer's words that the Series X is that mid-gen system and there won't be another one come true? I'm curious to hear your thoughts on any of this in the latest episode of the Easy Achievers Gaming Podcast. As always, I appreciate any feedback, which can be left in the comments below.

Xbox's purchase of Activision Blizzard will be finalized in the coming weeks, if not days, and we will see the beginning of a massive change in Xbox and the industry. We may find ourselves in a decade with a completely different economic landscape that, in hindsight, we could have seen coming but aren't there yet. So let's discuss together what can change for the brand, Game Pass, the industry at large, and much more as I (Elijah) take a deep dive with you, navigating what I think are some inevitable changes coming in the short, mid, and long term for everyone involved in this deal. Although Xbox is the main focus of this discussion, I hope to have more people on in the future to delve deeper into other companies that will see the ramifications of this deal. Shout them out in the comments if you know someone you would like to see on.
Wow, we have quite a week to go over. It has been completely inundated by the FTC hearing regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. There is an abundance of information to delve into, including new revelations about the production costs of two major gaming intellectual properties from Sony, as well as the substantial revenue generated for Sony by the Call of Duty franchise. Notably, an eye-opening email from Pete Hines potentially sheds light on Xbox's relationship with Bethesda. Several individuals have taken the stand under oath to discuss the intricate workings of the industry. Perhaps the most intriguing testimony to anticipate is that of Bobby Kotick, who will provide insights into his perspectives on the possibility of bringing Call of Duty to the Switch and the reasons behind its absence thus far. He will also express his aversion to Game Pass and elaborate on why he would never consider placing a Call of Duty title on a subscription service, among other compelling topics that cannot be fully expounded upon in this limited timeframe. This is a dense episode so go at your own pace as I did and I hope you enjoy it!
Well, this was a great podcast with a great guest, so I am excited to get into this. I had Reuben from Penultimate Conquest on, and it was a great occasion. We had a dense show filled with great stories this week. Of course, we had to talk about the ongoing FTC hearings between Xbox and the FTC in order to get the Activision Blizzard King purchase approved. This forced a lot of documents to come up, as discovery is a major part of these types of trials. There were many emails and testimonies to discuss, so make sure to check out that part of the show. Speaking of Xbox, we saw an Xbox ecosystem price hike and some leaks of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 map images. We also went over the great Nintendo Direct that just happened. And, of course, more on the show. Thank you so much for listening and for all the support you provide, however you do. We had an interesting week filled with a variety of random news stories and discussions that kept us all busy. One topic that's still causing a lot of debate is Starfield and its target frame rate of 30 fps. People have been going back and forth on that one. There's also been talk about games taking longer to develop than ever before. We got some insight into the work of different developers, like the former Sony Santa Monica employees revealing that Sony expects a 90 Metacritic score for their games. And did you know that Titanfall 3 was in development for almost a year? We also heard from Cory Barlog, who shared his thoughts on why games are taking so long nowadays. But that's not all! We still have two showcases left to cover, so check out my breakdowns of each. However, the biggest story of the week has been the downsizing of Embracer Group, which has sparked a lot of discussion. We witnessed a fantastic showcase from Xbox at their Xbox Showcase for 2023. While I'll delve into its merits within its own context, it's difficult to assert that Xbox has truly hit the mark when we consider previous showcases and the overall performance this year. It could be the start of significant change or a continuation of mediocrity. But let's set the melodrama aside. Today, I want to discuss the showcase game by game, giving you a comprehensive breakdown of my thoughts. Additionally, there's been some drama surrounding Starfield, with the game being locked at 30fps on consoles. This news shouldn't come as a surprise, particularly if you're a regular listener of this show. Regardless, I appreciate your support for the show, whether it's through Patreon or by liking, commenting, or subscribing. Thank you for stopping by, and I look forward to seeing you next week! Mortal Leak: Mortal Kombat 1 coming soon? Easy Achievers Podcast Ep.157 by Alex and Elijah
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer appeared on the Xcast, Kinda Funny's Xbox podcast, originally to answer so questions presumably around his job, game pass, and the future of Xbox. However, the timing and fate dictated that the huge failure that is Redfall came out 24 hours prior and forced a completely different conversation to occur. We have much to parce through as Phil becomes candid with a lot of what he sees Xbox current state, how Redfall happened, and how the market share for Xbox may always be on the losing side. This interview was actually incredible riveting so it is a must watch especaillty since the brunt of the episode is dedicated to peeling away at that interview. Hello and welcome back this week is a pretty stacked week, especially in terms of some of the more hardcore components of the industry. Something that immediately I want to point you to is my conversation about more layoffs in the gaming media. Then we have the CMA's decision on blocking the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. There is plenty to get through there so that is the main story of the show. Well, Redfall has seen quite the news but not in a good way as they have announced there will be no 60fps option at launch leaving many that were anticipating the title incredibly saddened and underwhelmed at the first Bethesda game to launch under Xbox's umbrella of studios. So let us discuss this decision why it may have happened and why it could lead to more studios making this exact decision. Of course, we have more to talk about as rumors are falling around a new PlayStation handheld device that will be exclusively for remote play. Some old talent returning to Bioware in a smaller form. E3 means so much too many. Some positively, some negatively but everyone has thought about gaming's former megacenter of gaming news and tech insight. As of writing this, it seems E3 may be silently thinning out of relevancy but how did we get here? How did E3 even become the gaming mecca that we all knew it was? What triggered its downfall? Did it try to change? All of this and more is discussed in this experiment that I am tentatively calling A Not So Brief History of series. Did you enjoy this stab at something new? Let me know in the comments and make sure to give me some critiques on what you would like to change as this is one of the newest things I have tried in a long time. A new installment in the PS5 console space maybe coming soon according to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson. Once I read this rumor nothing surprised at first glance as we heard about this previously on the Sacred Symbols Podcast and was reported here. But Tom goes on to mention specifics like an expected window of late 2024 which gave me pause but once thought about it aligns fairly well with last console cycle behavior. That discussion takes up the brunt of the episode but we have other exciting projects to discuss like the Last Ronin getting a video game adaption. Konami maybe getting back into Castlevania series. We also discuss the voice actor for Venom in SpiderMan 2 saying the release window for the game which seems to be a major slipup and much more. The most recent contest mode for the newly released Root of Nightmares raid in Destiny 2 caused quite a stir in the Destiny community, to say the least so I wanted to give the perspective of someone who has always enjoyed Destiny but has never been able to give the "Day One" contest mode a try. This most recent attempt seems to have been a perfect storm for my newly formed team to get our first contest mode completion. Now, why was this the case? Well, let's discuss the various encounters, the mechanics (or lack thereof), the difficulty, and much more. Thanks to a friend I met through Destiny iDoentNo for the footage of our raid clear. As of posting, Lance Reddick, the voice of Zavala and seasoned actor has passed away.
