Indieknot present this never before heard season 2 finale lost episode. On this episode, we're going meta! We talk about our thoughts of the podcast from how it started to where we want to go with it. We also do a Q/A with Hayden and Jannik sharing a bit about their relationship with film. We're glad to put this out after months of it collecting dust on one of our hard drives. But don't worry, it didn't effect our content. Trust me. We make good content. Very funny stuff. Or not. Sometimes it's not funny but it's meant to be not funny. Okay!!? It's worth listening to. Our mom's give it a 9 out of 10 (they don't like when we say bad words). Please listen to it! Please. Tax season is coming up and this is our last chance to make it big before the IRS finds out we used all those bank loans on our Indieknot celebration budget. Kidding. Just kidding, but listen to it regardless... We got a lot of new stuff coming in soon. See you all in Season 3! :) And if you're from the IRS, those were proper business expenses and you know it!!!

Coming to Hollywood from Armenia, Arax is determined to bring her creatures to life in anything from feature films to video games. Forever fascinated by creatures both fictional and real, Arax has been designing monsters all her life. During this episode, she talks about her creative process which includes a vigorous research stage, drawing concepts, and problem-solving during the physical creation of the final product. For example, her Xenomorph recreation uses a range of household items you'd probably never think of when looking at the final product. For example...pantyhose (mixed with different glues to make the smooth part of the head). One burning question we had for Arax specifically was her stance on artificial intelligence. Robert Mai creates musical scores for films, video games and commercials. Having experience in a variety of creative positions on and off set has allowed Robert to look at the role of music in visual media holistically. Afterall, the music should accentuate something this is already present not tell the audience how to feel. At least Robert and I think so. He describes taking on the role of an actor when he communicates with the directors he is composing for. An approach that I certainly appriciated when Robert scored one of my short films. During the interview we talk about nebulous and mysterious nature of music and how Robert has learned to wield it's power through trial and error. Most filmmakers who Havn't Made It Yet are NOT naturally good at marketing themselves. Sam, a long time friend of mine, has always been good at the social (or networking) side of film. They say working in management is one of the best ways to start a career in film because of all the exposure you get to the inner workings of the industry. On this episode, Sam Hong enlightens us about the mysterious and unseen processes that decide which movies get made and which don't. Take it from her, because it seems like the managemnt / agency world is clued in on what tomorrow looks like. At least for us film folk. A woman so multitalented we hardly had enough time to cover it all. Lauren is a playwright, director, graphic designer, author and filmmaker. During our remote conversation Lauren flipped the script on us in a question free-for-all using her self help book Heart Gym as a guide. We also covered her road show play, a bi-coast movie project and the real reason for her recent relocation to London. Traveling is as much a theme in Lauren's creations a Gonzoesque infusion of her personal life. Listen to our conversation about the dangers of commercializing personal experiences, industry frustrations and other well articulated thoughts from someone who clearly spends a lot of time thinking about words.
Tomer works as a camera operator and assistant camera in LA. He's known to be the family historian throughout his life and has continued that calling as a documentarian. In this episode, we head to the pacific northwest... again... to a magical and wonderful land called Eugene, Oregon. There, we meet a fierce and daring wizard by the name of Jeremiah Lieberman. Jeremiah has worked hard to hone in on his character-channeling wizardry. But not to worry, he uses his power for good. With great power comes great responsibility. Jeremiah is both responsible and powerful, which are both words that were in the last sentence. (Man, I'm really doing great at this whole description thing.) Listen in to find out where Jeremiah developed this great source of power and how he's using it to better himself as an actor. As a man of many faces, come see the face that Jeremiah calls his own. Or... ohhh... listen to his face?... Because it's a podcast. (Good Save.) Anyways, Jeremiah is a great improvisational actor and has many characters he can't wait to share with the world. In this episode, we're headed to the wild wild west; the Pacific Northwest to be specific. Conner Wayne Brown comes with an extensive knowledge of the performing arts. Whether it's acting in a lead role, directing stage plays and musicals, or teaching acting to children of all ages, this man lives and breathes theater (or, going by the more politically correct term, "thespian"). Conner's career in stage directing was on the up and up until it came to a sudden stop following the events of the pandemic. With the dreams and ambitions of art and directing still in mind, he moved to filmmaking as a way to continue his goals. With a lot of talented acting connections from past colleagues and a little help from the criterion collection, he's brought his knowledge from stage directing to make features and shorts with a micro budget approach to filmmaking. Now obviously, as Jannik and Hayden are such great hosts, we ask the real pressing questions and get to the heart of what it means to be a director and the hopes to answer the true meaning of art... I'm just joking. We mostly just joke around and try to out-funny one another. It's definitely worth a listen. There's a lot of heart in this episode even if we're just a bunch of wild and crazy guys. Here's a link to a short Conner recently made about his Father: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyoCmw77Ggk Conner's Letterboxd Username: Conner Wayne Brown (Give his reviews a read. Truly worth the time before you watch a movie)
This week on whatever we call this thing, ummmmm, Have Yet to Make It... Yet??? Our guest is Lucian Morfa. Lucian, who also goes by Luci, has been killing it in the Atlanta, Georgia film industry. She is primarily a script supervisor for narrative films but has also shown interest in joining the wonderful people of the Art Department. During a two month long gig as a set dresser in Athens, Georgia, Hayden was looking for an Art Assistant to help him with his relationship issues, genetic trauma, and his constant need for validation... I mean... oh... to assist him with art... yeah... art. He was given a great recommendation for Lucian and she agreed to tag along with the goofball. To quote Lucian, "At least the money was good". As part 2 of 2 for our Production Assistant special, we learn why Luci wanted to join film, how the film scene is like in Atlanta, and some tips and tricks in starting a network to help land film jobs. Luci was a great help for this project and a great friend to have worked alongside. For more on Lucian Morfa, here are links to her Instagram and IMDB: @lucianmorfa https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9762365/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
Kelsey Cooper just recently worked as a Production Assistant for Jannik on his last gig as a Set Dresser. She is currently in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where film production has recently expanded over the last few years. Oklahoma's film hub, which Kelsey calls "Native Hollywood", has helped create more representation for Native American storytelling on Cherokee land. With a Masters degree in Indigenous People's Law and experience as an activist, Kelsey has turned to filmmaking with hopes to help spread awareness of her native heritage and further connect with her Cherokee roots through the art of storytelling. Helping to weave new stories through the stories of old. Join in with Jannik and Hayden as they give updates on their whereabouts on their own pursuit in trying to "make it". Both of them are currently on the same shoot as a set dresser in a reality TV show. Watch out Hollywood, they're coming to get you and they have a lot to say! Man. These descriptions are tough to do. We really need to hire someone to make these better because I don't think I'm doing a good job at this whole explaining thing. Do people even read these? What are you doing?! Just listen to the damn thing. It's good. I swear. Trust me. It will change your life.
