In this episode we sail round the Horn and back again as we look into the lives, trial and mysteries of the Naussau Pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read.  Part of Calico Jack Rackham's crew, these two dressed as men, cursed, drank, fought and killed with their pirate brethren and for two months lived completely free, a rare thing for women in the Early 1700's.  We dig into what little is known about their early lives, what led them to become pirates and how their two months as lawless pirates made them so famous they are still talked about to this day.  Laura has Covid AND the Flu, she never does anything by halves.  Arthur discusses people mocking the trans movement by identifying as helicopters and toasters and in the end, we are forced to admit that Anne Bonny disappeared sometime after she had been imprisoned on the Bahamas and we do not know how or where her life ended.  So join us for this special episode all about these two pirates and so much more in this Jolly Roger Episode of the Family Plot Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.

Today’s word of the day is keelhaul, K-E-E-L-H-A-U-L. Keelhaul is a verb that means to rebuke harshly. The origin of our word of the day is from the Dutch word kielhalen (KEEL hall en) which was named for the act of dragging someone through water under the keel of the ship as a form of punishment. More recently the word simply means to punish someone severely. For example: I hope they don’t keelhaul me for the mistake I made on the Pinkerton account. With all the money at stake, I wouldn’t blame them for wanted to punish me pretty harshly.

We're back to regular episodes of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast after two weeks of special editions. While looking for songs for the ten year Celtic music retrospective, I couldn't find some Celtic MP3s that I played on this show. So I dug into my portable hard drive to find a whole bunch of MP3s I forgot to transfer back to my computer when I was updating my system years ago. So you'll enjoy a flashback of Siren's Song, a band I haven't played in a long time. Plus, great indie Celtic music from Keelhaul, Colin Farrell, Barrowburn, Kevin Behan, Siren's Song, Cele De, Danny Carthy, Noirin Ni Riain, Sanctuary, Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen, Heather Dale, Iarla O'Lionaird, The Clanns, The Mighty Regis, Mwnci Nel, Liz Madden. celticmusicpodcast.com/219 If you enjoy this show, then subscribe to our Celtic Music Magazine. Bill Tammeus, Faith in Middle America - Diana West, American Betrayal

Chuck Morse is joined in the first hour by Bill Tammeus, author of Woodstock: A Story of Middle America and in the second hour by Diana West, author of American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation's Character. About American Betrayal: In The Death of the Grown-Up, Diana West diagnosed the demise of Western civilization by looking at its chief symptom: our inability to become adults who render judgments of right and wrong. In American Betrayal, West digs deeper to discover the root of this malaise and uncovers a body of lies that Americans have been led to regard as the near-sacred history of World War II and its Cold War aftermath. Part real-life thriller, part national tragedy, American Betrayal lights up the massive, Moscow-directed penetration of America’s most hallowed halls of power, revealing not just the familiar struggle between Communism and the Free World, but the hidden war between those wishing to conceal the truth and those trying to expose the increasingly official web of lies. American Betrayal is America’s lost history, a chronicle that pits Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight David Eisenhower, and other American icons who shielded overlapping Communist conspiracies against the investigators, politicians, defectors, and others (including Senator Joseph McCarthy) who tried to tell the American people the truth. American Betrayal shatters the approved histories of an era that begins with FDR’s first inauguration, when “happy days” are supposed to be here again, and ends when we “win” the Cold War. It is here, amid the rubble, where Diana West focuses on the World War II--Cold War deal with the devil in which America surrendered her principles in exchange for a series of Big Lies whose preservation soon became the basis of our leaders’ own self-preservation. It was this moral surrender to deception and self-deception, West argues, that sent us down the long road to moral relativism, “political correctness,” and other cultural ills that have left us unable to ask the hard questions: Does our silence on the crimes of Communism explain our silence on the totalitarianism of Islam? Is Uncle Sam once again betraying America? In American Betrayal, Diana West shakes the historical record to bring down a new understanding of our past, our present, and how we have become a nation unable to know truth from lies.
