Do you ever doubt that you can make the right decisions for yourself? Sis, I used to. In the earliest days of my relationship with my husband I leaned on him a lot to make most of the decisions, even more, to help me with my own. I didn't trust that I was capable of making the right decisions for myself neither did I believe that I was capable of fulfilling the promises I made to myself Over the past years I've allowed myself to make those decisions even if they don't turn out the way I had desired but to also keep record when they do. This helped gain confidence in myself and trust that I can make my own decisions, and that a poor outcome didn't mean I was bad at making my own decisions. Self-trust is not saying you know all the answers, nor is it believing that you will always get it right. It's knowing that despite the outcome you got you, you got your support and respect still. What's good is that we can begin to trust ourselves again. On today's episode I share about self-trust - what breaks self-trust and how to nurture it. I hope you do enjoy this episode. We are socialized to be always be accessible, to be selfless and to be polite. So showing up for yourself in this new way and setting boundaries for the first time will sure be terrifying, especially when we fear that we will lose people by doing so. This holiday season a lot might come up, a lot might be triggered, and lines might be crossed. But remember this your energy is currency, just like time they are your resources and you have the freedom to claw back your resources when they are abused or you need them for yourself. Boundaries are a language of self-love. Those who value your relationship with them will respect them for you and those who fail to honour them were benefiting from you not having boundaries. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Music Credit: AShamaluevMusic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow Living Content's work: Sign up to receive my newsletters here Produced and Hosted by @lifewithOlerato Follow the podcast on Instagram @livingcontentpodcast Our website www.livingcontent.co.za DISCLAIMER: Do not treat the content here as a substitute for therapy or professional help. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/livingcontentpodcast/message

Today's topic reminded me of my childhood favorite tree, so I share some of my fondest childhood memories. If anything that therapy helped me with, among other things, was being able to grant myself permission to own my feelings and validating them, this has also helped me learn to communicate and draw my boundaries, and the hardest part reinforcing them. To me, it has become important to preserve and protect my energy, to be able to call it back home. Mpumi Mayisa is a poet, photographer, podcaster, educational art program designer, and event curator based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is passionate about using her gifts to advocate for human expansion and healing. Her background in education and event photography has given her insight into the seemingly small yet healthy social ingredients missing from the world she finds herself in. She has used these insights as seeds for inspiration to dream up the ideas, programs, and events that she executes in an effort to create new, rich realities that help nourish the seeds of creativity and self-healing. Since founding Among The Lilies in 2017, she has curated Ode To The Woman, Book Socials, and The Open Mic Experiment that provides artists with a platform to express their creative power, find or share their voices, collaborate, and learn to give themselves permission to breathe easy in their own bodies. Mpumi flowers open when she has a pen in the grip of her tiny fingers and enjoys the simple pleasure of stringing words together to form true to life and potent stories. She is currently working on her debut poetry collection. Thank you for being here. In today's episode I unpack on finding self belonging and inner security first. By that, I mean learning to belong to yourself first and asserting that inner child in you that she is safe. Self belonging is being in a relationship with yourself and getting to know who you are the same way you would if you were in a relationship. Part of getting to know ourselves better requires sitting with our inner child. In this episode I also talk about what happens when we don't know ourselves better and get into a relationship, and how do you get to know yourself better even in a relationship. ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [03:30] - On finding self-belonging and inners security [11:15] - What happens when you don't know yourself better and get into a relationship [18:40] - How do you get to know yourself better even in a relationship [22:00] - This week's affirmation The podcast I referenced her is Black Girls Heal. Today's episode is about embracing different experiences, opinions, and ideas to life and defining what success looks like for you. I have gotten to a point in life where I have learned to appreciate that things are not always black or white, true or false and there will not always be one true answer, one solution or one formula to life. And that I can define my own success just the way it pleases me and helps me live a life I am content with. ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [03:30] - On embracing our different experiences, opinions, and ideas but still embracing our own path [11:45] - The questions to ask yourself when defining your own success and what it looks like [18:30] - The importance of defining what your success looks like [20:30] - This week's affirmation Thank you for being here. Today we are talking about why and how we may be sabotaging ourselves. Why do we have little worth for ourselves and often shrink into smallness. We will look at what that can look like, what is the reason we do it, and how to stop. I also shared some beautiful words from two creative women, both as affirmation and to celebrate how powerful you are even when you are still learning to believe that for yourself. The day you will stop doubting yourself and realize your power, some people will be scared. Imagine if we showed up as our highest selves each day. Imagine if we hyped ourselves of the real truth of who we are, imagine if we reclaimed our sovereignty and stopped giving away our power to old narratives. Imagine if we realised how God we are. Imagine that day! Today's question is from @zshabangu on limiting self-beliefs. ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [09:55] - On what is Self-sabotage [10:40] - What it can look like, how do we sabotage ourselves [16:45] - The reasons we sabotage ourselves [20:30] - How do we stop sabotaging ourselves [23:05] - This week's affirmation are words drawn from a song - Go Bravely by Londrelle Hall (ft. Happy new month! We are now within the month of March. Here's to a new soul replenishing and transformative month. May these new 31 days open to you another layer of yourself to show you the greatness that you are capable of. Today I wanted to talk about learning to show up for yourself in ways you needed someone to, by that I mean learning to grant yourself the love you needed someone to grant you. And we know any form of self-love starts with cultivating nurturing thoughts that are affirming to us. It should be that when you sit with yourself in solitude, you are able to befriend all of you and it's a safe space that you can visit very often to remind yourself of the truth that is you. We cannot use the same voice, language, and tone that taught us to be hard on ourselves to heal ourselves. Today's question on healing was from @saucey_bear, she asked “Please share your thoughts on dealing with feeling excluded/left out and how to be okay and feel secure in yourself in such moments”. ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [03:00] - Questions to reflect on for passing months [08:30] - This week's question on healing [09:30] - 5 love languages which you can show love to yourself [15:45] - This week's affirmation Questions shared by @saucey_bear. Sometimes healing can be about learning to embrace a good thing when it finds you, sometimes it can be about learning to make room for what you are hoping for, sometimes it can be about learning to hold on to new nurturing believes that remind you of what you deserve and sometimes it can be about learning a new and healthy way to go through hardship. So whether it's in learning how to embrace joy for yourself, learning to know that you don't have to read the room to hold space for joy in your life, or learning just how much you deserve it. I want us to be able to talk all about it. The way I see it, part of healing is knowing that you deserve joy in life and I believe this is our Devine gift to us and wish for us too. In today's episode, I am unpacking what joy is and also answering the question that came through from Matshepo - how did you learn to walk in contentment?. In today's episode, I share how to choose joy and cultivate a content life. ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [03:00] - Choosing joy as part of healing and what joy is [13:00] - Ways in which you can cultivate joy, therefore, living a content life [20:30] - This week's affirmation Questions shared by: Matshepo. Today's episode is about forgiveness, one of the pillars I believe to be critical in genuinely living a content life and living light, unburdened by our pasts. Today in particular I wanted us to talk about self-forgiveness because only when we are able to truly forgive ourselves which is the most hardest part of forgiveness, so shall we be able to forgive others and release any bondage holding us to anyone who has disappointed us or caused us pain in some way and also releasing the past that never left our hearts. In this episode, I speak to a question that Tumi shared - on forgiveness and owning our healing journey without the permission, participation, or buy-in of others. ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [10:05] - How to start cultivating self-forgiveness [18:45] - My own story with self-forgiveness [23:15] - This week's affirmation Questions shared by: Tumi. 2. Our desire to please

Very often our desire to please is a symptom of a very deeper issue. How I see most of our toxic beliefs and things that we have to learn to unlearn is that, there must have been a point in your earlier life where you first experienced what would be a seed and with every similar experience or triggering situation the roots of the seed infiltrated your life and way of being to entrench themselves even deeper. So with that, you end up building a coping mechanism that becomes your auto-response to situations that may appear similar though at times contextually different and may not require a defense response. However, since you have been so used to fighting and protecting yourself you've built an armor against anything that would trigger the same feelings. In this episode, I speak to a question that Masala shared - How do I stop being a people pleaser, and comparing myself? ~Show notes~ [00:00] - Intro [02:30] - On our desire to please, the deeper issue [12:30] - 10 signs you could be a people pleaser [24:00] - How to break the cycle [26:30] - This week's affirmation [29:00] - Journaling prompts for deep reflection to help you as a people pleaser Thank you for being here.
