In the Latino community, talking about mental health is seen as a source of shame or weakness. "We don't talk about these things..." or "En esta casa no se habla de eso..." are phrases that, unfortunately, most of us have heard at least once. Luckily, we also have people who confront this silence head-on and speak louder whenever they hear one of those phrases. In this episode, I'm joined by Maria Case. Maria is a Real Estate Investor, a Mental Health Advocate, and a badass Latina on a mission to break generational patterns. She is also living proof that we can transform personal struggles into a force of change. After dealing with life-threatening illness and family mental health challenges, Maria created Kompashion to break the silence around mental health.Tune in to Episode 230 of Amiga, Handle Your Shit, and prepare for the show's history's rawest conversation about mental health. You'll hear about Maria's challenges with mental health, the dozens of dark places she had to go through before finding the path to her mental sanity, and the practices that helped her make it to the other side. You'll also hear about the importance of vulnerability, family support, and community engagement in addressing mental health issues, how to understand pain's purpose, and much more.Episode Takeaways:From struggling to strengthening. Discover how building self-awareness can prevent burnout, reduce compassion fatigue, and strengthen interpersonal communication—all of which contribute to a more resilient and effective first responder. This episode also includes a guided "Emotional Check-In" exercise, designed to help first responders enhance self-regulation, recognize emotional patterns, and apply mindfulness techniques in real-time scenarios. I would love to hear how this episode impacted you.In this episode, we dive deep into how to manage emotional triggers effectively by understanding their impact and learning practical strategies to regain control over emotional responses. We'll explore the best coping strategies for emotional reactivity, helping listeners break free from automatic responses like anxiety, anger, or avoidance. To start, we'll define what emotional triggers are, including specific memories, situations, or stimuli that evoke intense emotional reactions. Since many of these triggers are linked to past trauma and emotional triggers, they can create overwhelming automatic responses. Breaking the cycle of emotional reactivity begins with recognizing these patterns and developing healthier ways to respond.Next, we'll uncover how the brain processes emotional triggers, focusing on the role of the amygdala in emotional responses and how it signals threats, activating the fight-or-flight response. Listeners will gain insight into why emotional responses can feel so intense and how survival-based brain wiring can override rational thought. Through mindfulness techniques for emotional regulation, individuals can train their brains to manage these reactions more effectively. We'll also introduce a step-by-step guide to emotional trigger mapping, where listeners will identify their top three emotional triggers, analyze their emotional and physical responses, and create a trigger action plan. This strategy includes recognizing early warning signs, practicing mindfulness techniques for emotional regulation, and using journaling to track progress.By the end of this episode, you'll have practical tools for understanding emotional triggers and a clear plan to enhance your emotional resilience strategies. Whether you're struggling with trauma and automatic responses or simply want to build better emotional control, this episode will provide the guidance you need.Tune in now and start your journey toward emotional mastery!Get your FREE "Personal Action Plan" click the linkhttps://www.ptsd-transformation.com/personalized-action-planSupport the showOptions For Connection:Websitehttps://www.ptsd-transformation.com/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/shields_down/Private Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/ptsdtransformationacademyFree PDF "Understanding Your PTSD: Go from Surviving to Thriving"https://www.ptsd-transformation.com/understand-ptsd-pdf Free Monthly Newsletters (Right to your inbox)https://www.ptsd-transformation.com/newsletteroptin Support is hereptsdtransformation@gmail.com DisclaimerI want to remind you that this Podcast is my opinion and my teachings, in no way does it replace a licenced Mental health professional, if you feel that you are in a place where you need that support reach out to someone and get it.

In this flashback episode, we're not just talking the talk; we're taking a deep dive into personal struggles both therapists and clients face, challenging the stigma around seeking mental health care and embracing our vulnerabilities.I talk with Sandtrice Russell as she opens up about the need for safe spaces and advocacy, particularly for the BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ communities.3 key themes:Vulnerability as a Bridge: Therapists' self-disclosure and openness about personal struggles can build rapport and trust, making it easier for clients to open up and be vulnerable in turn.Authenticity in Practice: Showcasing your true values and creating an accepting space for clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTQIA2+, Neurodivergent, and BIPOC individuals, is not just good practice—it's essential for safety and relatability. The Human Connection: Therapy is more than a checklist; it's about actual authentic human connection and openness to change. As we continue our discussion, we challenge conventional beliefs about mental health and medication. Dr. Moss sheds light on the realities of psychiatric medications, revealing how they can create chemical imbalances rather than resolve existing ones. He emphasizes the importance of understanding that anxiety and depression may not stem from inherent imbalances but arise from the pressures of life and societal expectations. Throughout our dialogue, Dr. Moss articulates crucial insights that encourage listeners to rethink their relationship with anxiety and mental health treatment. We explore the notion that many emotional struggles are framed as personal failings, when in reality, they are human experiences that we all encounter. Dr. Moss argues that it's essential to acknowledge and embrace discomfort as a natural part of existence, moving away from the belief that one must be in a constant state of happiness to be valuable or fulfilled. We delve into the implications of the current healthcare system, where therapists often feel compelled to refer patients to psychiatrists when conventional methods fall short. This dynamic can lead to a reliance on medication, which may provide a false sense of relief that often masks more profound issues. #Anxiety #Depression #MentalHealth #Medication #MentalHealthAdvocacy #SelfExpression #Creativity #Therapy #Healing #SelfHelp #MentalWellness #MindBodyConnection #EmotionalHealing #AlternativeMedicine #PersonalGrowth #Mindfulness #WellnessJourney #DrFredMoss #AnxietyCoachesPodcast #MentalHealthEducation #WellnessCommunity, #ACP, #GinaRyan, #AnxietyCoachesPodcast Learn more about your ad choices.
