Welcome to the episode 29 of "Women In The Music Industry", a podcast that shines a spotlight on the remarkable women who are breaking barriers and making their mark in an industry that has long been dominated by men. My guest today is none other than Live Sound Engineer, Singer, Songwriter & Artist... Joie. Joie is a compelling presence in the music industry, merging talents as a singer-songwriter with technical prowess in live sound. Their musical journey, which took a professional turn in 2022, is marked by a lifelong engagement with music, culminating in a multifaceted career that spans performing and live sound engineering. Interestingly, Joie hadn't initially considered a career in live sound. The decision came after a friend highlighted the need for greater diversity within the field, emphasizing the importance of representation for women, people of colour, and LGBTQ+ individuals in Toronto's music scene as audio technicians. This insight propelled Joie to explore the technical side of music, aiming to fill the gap and bring a fresh perspective to the industry. Over the last year, Joie's work in live sound has taken them across Toronto Canada, working in venues such as The Rivoli, Burdock Brewery, and The Cameron House. Their technical role complements their identity as a singer-songwriter, where they craft songs that weave personal narratives with universal themes, resonating with a broad audience. Joie's transition into music and live sound engineering not only highlights their adaptability and dedication to their craft, but also positions them as an advocate for inclusivity within the music industry. Their story reflects a commitment to personal growth, diversity, and expression through music, making Joie a standout artist in Toronto's vibrant music community. Menopause can be a very stressful time but imagine what it's like when that's compounded with a healthcare system that's biased against you.   Studies show that women of colour experience menopause at an earlier age and with much stronger symptoms than their caucasian counterparts.   Menopause can be daunting and challenging enough because it's still not openly discussed or understood by many women or healthcare professionals. When you add into that mix the lack of representation and research focused on menopause in women of colour, it can lead to disparities in healthcare. Dr Monica Williams talks to us today about the experience that African American women have through menopause, how menopause can hit earlier, how health advice is often not sought because of systemic bias against women of colour, how beliefs such as black women don't feel pain are still present in some medical professionals today. We also talk about multi-disciplinary approaches to menopause, bio-identical hormones and the need for open discussion and sharing among women of all races.       Find out more here: https://www.mmmpodcast.me/ep213

The drama would have been funny if it wasn't heartbreaking with long-term consequences and trauma that seems to last longer than love. Some have given up on love, other simply accept it as their cross. I have talked to you all here and there about growing a business and showing up as a coach, healer and intuitive online. It really was not easy at all at first!I expected learning about strategy to be as tricky as it was in the beginning but I was not expecting what proved to be one of my biggest hurdles…imposter syndrome.I thought that I was just a bit nervous as I had never done the whole online business thing for real, but as I dug a little deeper I discovered that this lack of self belief and self confidence had been leaking itself into other areas of my life without me even realising it. I first thought it was due to just circumstances like the wrong boss, the lack of experience but…with more soul searching I realised I had inherited this chronic feeling of not being good enough. I realised I was carrying not just my confidence wound but many of my ancestors before me in my bloodline. This week's guest is an absolute expert on this topic and it is this reason why as soon as she introduced herself online, I was like mate …you are coming on the show!I have with me on this episode the lovely Sukhi Kaur. Sukhi is a certified life coach, who uses mindset work to help high-achieving Women of Color (WOC) overcome Imposter Syndrome, so they can work less and get paid more. As a first-generation Indian American woman who has worked in corporate for 13 years, Sukhi knows what it's like to have the internal Imposter Syndrome experience and yet rely on external circumstances for meaningful change. Sukhi acknowledges the impact of cultural and societal messages on women, and empowers her clients to stop overcompensating to prove their worth, value their contributions and play an active role in their growth. It all starts with small mindset shifts which she helps her clients with during virtual one on one coaching sessions.FOLLOW SUKHI:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sukhi_lifecoachBook your first 1:1 call with Sukhi: https://sukhilifecoach.com/11coaching/READY TO ACTIVATE GODDESS MODE?:FREE #LevelUpInYourSleep AFFIRMATIONS: https://view.flodesk.com/pages/60f469a4d2b5fdc86c4c2931 JOIN MY MAILING LIST AND KICK START YOUR DIVINE FEMININE LEADERSHIP JOURNEY:https://view.flodesk.com/pages/6001c602d46c01e89abef94eFOLLOW ME EVERYWHERE:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thehealingroseholistics/?hl=enFacebook: www.facebook.com/thehealingroseholisticsWebsite: www.thehealingroseholistics.comPodcast: https://www.thehealingroseholistics.com/whatwildwomenwantpodcast

She's since implemented free menopause training to support women in the workplace and is committed to opening up the conversation about menopause in South Asian communities. 'I've often been told that menopause is a myth and that it is a white person's disease. I have no idea where this comes from but I ask myself whether this is because the people shouting about menopause are not looking like them?'

Since #metoo we've seen a societal tipping point moment in realizing the gap between gender forward policies and what happens in reality. That gap is even wider for women of colour. According to Deepa Purushonotham's new book “The First, the Few, the Only: How Women of Color Can Redefine Power in Corporate America “ one in three women of colour in corporate America want to quit. And yet, BIPOC women represent among the most highly trained and talented workplace demographic to attract and retain. In conversation with Anima CEO Annahid Dashtgard, Deepa shares what propelled her research and why major media are paying attention. What will it take to move past the tired debate about meritocracy? What will it take for us to break the invisible barriers holding us back? What does a future look like where everyone, regardless of identity, has the opportunity not just to survive, but thrive.

Amongst all his other difficulties, Boris Johnson has promised to improve the outcome for rape victims, saying he will fix the system. It was a pledge made after the murder of Sarah Everard. Today, long awaited guidelines on evidence in trials have been published which campaigners say will do just the opposite. They'll deter women from coming forward because police and prosecutors will STILL be allowed to ask for personal records like medical and therapy notes and even school reports. We discussed this last month - when our reporter Melanie Abbott heard that draft guidelines prepared by the Crown Prosecution Service were being overturned. She joins us to tell us the latest. Bravehearted is a new book that explores the extraordinary story of the women of the American ‘Wild West' during the 19th century. Whether they were the hard-drinking hard-living poker players and prostitutes of the new boom towns, 'ordinary' wives and mothers walking two thousand miles across the prairies pulling their handcarts behind them, Chinese slave-brides working in laundries, or the Native American women displaced by the mass migration, all have one trait in common: extreme resilience and courage in the face of the unknown. We speak to author and historian, Katie Hickman about a period of history she believes has never been as well-documented by women as this. The Living Wage Foundation has said that women are being disproportionately impacted by the cost of living crisis as they are more likely to be in low paid work. Today the government is set to announce support, the Financial Times' Clear Barrett joins Jessica on the programme to discuss how this could help you. One of the most successful pop groups in history is back! 40 years since their last concert, ABBA, are once again performing. Well almost… Agnetha, Freida, Benny and Björn spent 5 weeks performing their songs in motion capture suits so that their movements could be captured and turned into ABBA-TARS. The end result? A digital, 360-degree, immersive concert experience which feels like you're watching ABBA, from the 1970s, perform in front of you. Producer Svana Gisla has kept the whole production on track for five years. A recent landmark report revealed 75% of women of colour have experienced racism at work, 27% having suffered racial slurs and 61% report changing themselves to fit in. Produced by gender equality organisation, the Fawcett Society, and the race equality think tank, the Runnymede Trust, ‘Broken Ladders' explores and documents the experiences of 2,000 women of colour in workplaces across the UK, showing the harmful and entrenched racism that women of colour endure at every stage of their career journey. Oriana Fox meets The Golden Brown Girls, Indrani Ashe and Shannon Tamara Lewis to discuss the imagined futures that their eponymously titled web series presents. Grey-haired, witty and optimistic, their older selves live out a fantasy that is in distinct contrast to their lived reality in an age of austerity. Ashe and Lewis also discuss the show's centring of women of colour protagonists. Finally, the three arrive at a plan for a future episode in which Oriana will play a cameo appearance. This interview was recorded live on Instagram in May 2021 as part of Oriana's digital residency at Mimosa House Gallery. You can watch the original video here.  Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show. The Golden Brown Girls project was founded in 2014 in London by visual artists Shannon Tamara Lewis and Indrani Ashe. Soon after they invited another artist, Sara Umar to write herself into the script. It's now a growing network of women and creative professionals from across the globe with individual and collaborative practices. Their web series was envisioned as a method of imagining the artists' futures, a stage for their political concerns and a way to create new social structures with like-minded individuals.  Indrani Ashe is a US-born, Goldsmiths-educated, Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist of  Bengali and white American descent whose practice speaks to the experience of the body as a political vessel, wresting the narrative from hegemonical structures.
