The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has paid tribute to nine soldiers killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) this week, calling them gallant fighters who heroically halted the M23 rebels' advance on Goma. This comes amid calls for SA troops in DRC to be called back or withdrawn of their deployment in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The tragic losses have sparked criticism, with experts questioning the rationale behind deploying South African troops without sufficient support, including air cover. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Defence Analyst, Darren Olivier
Today's show opens with the one thing the Left has been wanting to accomplish since Donald Trump entered the race and that was to brand him with the Scarlet Letter of F! It's official. Judge Juan Merchan has finalized the verdict and Donald Trump is a convicted felon. He will receive no punishment. No jail time. No probation. No fines. No conditions. As reminder of this incidence of lawfare, we remind you about what Michael Cohen's lawyer said and what Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) said in a Congressional hearing. Then we hear from Alan Dershowitz and Jonathan Turley about the sentencing. Moving back to Los Angeles, Gov. Gavin Newsome (D-CA) got caught lying about talking to Biden in an effort to get out of talking to someone affected by the wildfires. Robert Divas (D-CA), Speaker of the California Assembly, was asked why he is still holding a special session to try to “Trump proof” California, rather than address the fires? LA Mayor Karen Bass is asked about the lack of preparedness and she dodges the question. To show you more incompetence, we get a short presser from the LA County EMA Director, who can't figure out why their emergency alert system keeps going off on it's own. LAFD Assistant Chief Kristine Larson first tries to tell us that people in an emergency prefer if someone who looks like or acts like them arrives on the scene. Then, she manages to top that statement by saying if a women can't lift a man out of a fire, it's the man's fault for being there. Hollywood actor Eric Braedon helped prove the point I made yesterday that those directly affected by the fires would not immediately turn on their political masters. It is going to take some time. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) was asked if Trump's comments about Newsome were divisive and he managed to rip the media up one side and down the other. Citizens made a citizens arrest of an illegal brandishing a flamethrower, trying to start another LA fire. He had 5 cell phones on him an a United Nations debit card. But, after questioning him, police said there wasn't enough evidence to charge him with arson. After all, that would defeat their “climate change” narrative. Finally, our outgoing sound bite comes from Senator John Fetterman (D-PA). He gets the comment of the day when asked why he was going to meet with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. The Wednesday, Dec. 11, Prescott Valley Town Council meeting was a reminder of what true leadership looks like. Lucy Leyva – former councilmember, local business owner, and entrepreneur – stood with calm resolve and clarity, urging us to hold our new leaders to higher standards. Leadership isn't about belittling residents or venting on social media. Calling constituents “morons” divides us when we need unity. Leyva's remarks came in response to one of the newly elected Prescott Valley Town Council member's disparaging remarks directed at her. [See video, beginning at 48:54] As Leyva said, council members should be respectful and polite,... Effective leaders stand apart by focusing on people rather than just managing processes. As uncertainty grows, leaders must provide clear communication, even when they lack all the answers themselves. This includes reinforcing the team's vision, purpose, and expectations. That's according to communication specialist, Leah Mether, who says leaders must demonstrate care while setting clear, realistic performance expectations. SEASON 10 The Learning Leader Daily Leadership Tips and Discussions Today's discussion focuses on the Negative Impact of Poor Leadership (or Lack of Leadership). To get a perfect example of a real life example, look no further than the Florida State Seminoles football team, and their first two games this year. On the other hand if you want to see a great example of a positive impact of leadership, look at the Seminole's first two opponents (Georgia Tech, and Boston College). I'll explain a lot more in this episode. Have you ever wondered why it's so difficult for a group of leaders to norm or be consistent? Well, it's because every leader is unique and has their own style and way of leading their team. By coming together and forming a bond in your organizations leadership team, you can begin norming better than ever before. I use the DISC assessment with every client and team I work with and have found it to be a real game-changer for the entire team. This is certainly no different when you have a group of leaders together. In order for them to work together in unison, they have to begin by knowing each other very well. That's where the DISC comes in, so I will mix the DISC behavioral styles in throughout this series. I am a DISC Certified Trainer and Consultant and have worked with behavioral styles for over 20 years. I am certified through the John Maxwell Leadership Team and have worked with hundreds of teams. If you are interested in having me work with your team leaders or if you want to purchase a DISC assessments for yourself and your team, please contact me via email at Paul@CLCTeam.com If you want to dive in deeper, here are some great books to read and study about the behavioral styles: “Surrounded by Idiots” by Thomas Erikson https://amzn.to/3yZ4Jwk “Full Spectrum Success: Living and Leading in True Color” by Jacob Adamo https://amzn.to/3Mcsnsd “The Four Tendencies” by Gretchen Rubin https://amzn.to/4ctegtq “Wired That Way” by Marita Littauer. https://amzn.to/3SNW8n4 “Personality PLUS” by Florence Littauer. https://amzn.to/3X05WNi Thank you for listening. I'm Paul Grau Jr., the host of this show, and I'm excited about Season 10. This season will focus on “The Learning Leader” and/or as we refer to it here at The CLC Team, “The Expanding Leader. Every episode will primarily focus on the lifelong journey of expanding your knowledge of leadership, and I will try to give you a daily takeaway to put what you learn into action. My goal is that you learn something that you can take immediate action on, and see how powerful expanding your leadership can be. Please listen daily (Mon – Friday) as Paul focuses on not only giving tips about how to be a great leader, but also a leader who is respected, a leader who people want to follow, a leader who can confidently navigate their way through both personal and professional challenges, a leader who is not afraid to share their faith while living it out, a leader who knows his/her purpose and lives to fulfill that purpose every day, and a leader who has no regrets! Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!We often discuss the benefits of great leadership in organizations. How great leaders impact great culture, employee retention, engagement, and success. But what about the true impact of poor leadership and what is the real cost? Studies show that the negative impact of poor leadership goes far beyond just a toxic culture or unengaged employees. The real cost can show up in unhappiness in life, not reaching full potential, poor health, and even death! Yes, studies show that executives are "52% more likely to die earlier" due to stress. The bottom line is that the cost of poor leadership impacts far more than just the numbers. You may think you are above this; however, statistics show you are more likely to be one of those impacted. Rich and Maikel discuss why poor leadership costs far more than just the bottom line on this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT. Thank you for all of your support. Please let us know what you think about our podcast and what topic you may want to hear from us. Leaders, Lead Well!Unfortunately, global statistics show that most organizations don't have effective leaders. The truth is that the vast majority of people in "leadership positions" aren't trained to be leaders! Even those who may have pursued advanced business degrees are likely overwhelmed by theory, not practical advice and opportunities for application. Unfortunately, in many job settings, skilled individual contributors tend to be promoted into leadership positions, whether they have the requisite leadership skills or not. This all too common practice leads to a significant leadership skills gap in most organizations. The bottom line is that just because somebody is in a leadership position doesn't mean they have leadership skills. When leaders fall short everyone suffers. Or in other words, everything else sucks.Rich and Maikel dive into the deep end of poor leadership on this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Today is Day 153 of the war. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan on today's episode. We hear statements from two journalists who arguably have the ear of the White House. Horovitz discusses how representative the statements are as every move the Biden administration makes in the war in Gaza is scrutinized ahead of the US elections in November. On April 30, 2021, during the coronavirus pandemic, 45 people were killed in a crush at the Mount Meron gravesite of a second-century sage in northern Israel. After two and a half years of work, a state commission of inquiry headed by retired judge Dvora Berliner has named a number of officials responsible for the disaster in a 320-page report. We hear about the results of the inquiry as well as political blowback. In Horovitz's weekly column yesterday, he proposed that we're living in the most worrying period for Jews since WWII. How is he seeing this play out? For the latest updates, please look at The Times of Israel's ongoing live blog. Discussed articles include: Live blog March 7, 2024 Report: Biden mulling moves to keep Israel from using US weapons in Rafah State inquiry blames Netanyahu, but does not sanction him, for deadly 2021 Meron crush Likud derides inquiry on deadly Meron crush as ‘political weapon' against Netanyahu Full text of inquiry's findings on officials' responsibility for 2021 Meron disaster We're living in the most worrying period for Jews since World War II THOSE WE HAVE LOST: Civilians and soldiers killed in Hamas's onslaught on Israel THOSE WE ARE MISSING: The hostages and victims whose fate is still unknown Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts. Poor leadership skills can ruin team morale. As a manager, you hold more power than you might think. Obviously, you can hire and fire your subordinates. You can also promote them… or not promote them. You may also have the ability to approve a raise. If not, you at least have the ability to conduct the annual review. In essence, your leadership skills and moral compass have a direct impact on their career. Even if you treat everyone fairly, your impact on their lives is unmistakable. This is why having a great boss is the number one wish of most employees. They often rank this above more vacation time and a bigger paycheck. However, some managers can inadvertently destroy the confidence of their employees. When this happens, it can permanently damage morale. Low morale then creates poor employee retention.Even the best executives avoid committing these bad leadership behaviors.Full Shoe Notes: 5 Ways that Poor Leadership Skills Can Harm Morale (and How to Fix Them)

Lisa Anna Palmer is an author, speaker, and leadership coach. She is the author of "Light a Fire in Their Hearts: How to Inspire and Lead Teams to Phenomenal Success." With over 20 years of experience in leadership, Palmer helps organizations and individuals improve their leadership skills and achieve their goals. Through her writing and speaking, she emphasizes the importance of servant leadership and inspiring and empowering teams.Show-Notes:The Effects of Poor Leadership on Health“Let's look at each other as human beings, let's connect at that level” [10:00] Lisa Anna Palmer talks about the ability to unleash potential when we treat our employees with respect and dignity. It's better for everyone, even ourselves as leaders. But what happens when we don't? Marcel and Lisa connect on their major health scares that brought them to servant leadership practice and they discuss staggering risks associated with poor leadership like increased risks in cardiovascular health.Once a Bad leader, Always a Bad Leader?“Leadership is hard, it's a higher aspiration role to take on” [18:22] Marcel positions that leadership isn't for everyone, especially those with no desire to grow and change. As Lisa breaks it down with the age-old saying, when there's a will there's a way. When leaders put conscious thought into their leadership and are open to change, accepting feedback and seeing it as an opportunity for growth, they can begin to positively affect the lives of their staff.Misconceptions of Servant Leadership“Servant leadership is about being the best version of yourself and to be of service to others” [22:39] To be a servant leader is not a martyr, Lisa explains what servant leadership is and how really loving yourself and being your best self and then turning that same love and acceptance outward can be the best example. Marcel and Lisa discuss some common misconceptions of servant leadership, like being completely selfless, only considering others' needs, and abandoning your needs and wants. These are not a part of servant leadership at all!Is Servant Leadership Still Relevant?Marcel claims some are reporting the ‘death' of servant leadership as Gen Z moves into new positions and remote working becomes more prevalent. But Lisa explains just why Servant Leadership is here to stay, “The element of treating people like human beings is going to stay forever” [32:24]. Going virtual is not an excuse, because even digital tone and connection are important. There are ways to make an impact and embrace Servant Leadership in this new context. Our Summer series invite you to ponder important topics for daily living. Stephanie and her occasional guests tell us about the importance of our definition of success, the key elements of leadership roles, the traps of comparison, the importance of theology, and much more! These stand-along episodes are meant to encourage you and challenge you to experience deeper fruitfulness in your various roles and ministries, in all the relationships and areas of your life. Today's theme is leadership. We are all leaders, in one capacity or another. If you don't think you are ever in a position of leadership, think again! Leadership does not necessarily mean a large oragnization. You lead as a parent, as a student, as a peer, and in many areas that might not feel like leadership as the world defines it! For example, a mother who is potty-training her child has to exhibit a certain and real set of leadership skills. A teacher in the classroom, or a small group leader at church, all have to learn how to improve their leadership skills. So... What is a good leader--and how can you spot a bad leader a mile away? What are the various traits of leadership, and how do they differ from styles of leadership? How can you learn from good and bad leaders? How do you identity bad leadership? How do you handle the various responsibilities that comes with your leadership? Stephanie gave this presentation to a group of Gospel Spice leadership trainees. You will get to hear their questions in the Q&A session at the end of this episode. If you are interested to participate in the next GospelSpice leadership training, email us at contact@gospelspice.com. We hope to hold the next sessions in early 2023. If you wish to access the video that contains the deck of slides that Stephanie used, become a member at gospelspice.com (it's free) and you will find it on our member community board in "Stephanie's library."
