On the show today, as part of our Norwegian Techie series, we have another great Norwegian techie Magnar Sveen. You might know Magnar as the "emacs rocks guy" - and you can find his content at emacsrocks.com where he has been hosting webcasts on tips and tricks of emacs since 2011. But that's not all, he's a big fan of functional programming in particular Clojure and Clojure script and on his other site Parens of the Dead, you'll find screencasts that will teach you how to build a zombie game with functional programming. So we'll get into all of that, expect plenty of talk about text editors and functional programming.Parens of the Dead: http://www.parens-of-the-dead.comEmacs Rocks: http://emacsrocks.comEdited by: Simon HoernerProduced by: Samuel Gregory and Chris AddamsTheme Music by: Chris AddamsSponsored by: Jupiter and the GiraffeWebsite: https://thattech.showYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4paazkqrlwtB_WW28w4GsgInstagram: @thattechshow_Twitch: https://twitch.tv/thattechshowTikTok: @thattechshowPatreon: @thattechshowLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/thattechshow/Get in touch: hello@thattech.show Hosted on Acast. Rakesh and Chris met back in 2013 when we worked together at Tesco. I was fresh out of Amazon at the time and maybe a bit brash, young, egotistical and opinionated back then... as if I've changed in any way other than getting older... so initially, I think rubbed him up the wrong way, but over the next 18months I think at the very least we developed a mutual respect, enough that he'd accept our invitation to join us as a guest on the show. And I'm so glad because he's a really smart guy and maybe the only person I know with code running in space. So we'll try and get into that, but also what he's been doing since we last spoke at Tesco as he's now left the UK and gone back to India to serve as CTO for Publicis Sapient via a stint at Amazon.Edited by: Simon HoernerProduced by: Samuel Gregory and Chris AddamsTheme Music by: Chris AddamsSponsored by: Jupiter and the GiraffeWebsite: https://thattech.showYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4paazkqrlwtB_WW28w4GsgInstagram: @thattechshow_Twitch: https://twitch.tv/thattechshowTikTok: @thattechshowPatreon: @thattechshowLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/thattechshow/Get in touch: hello@thattech.show Hosted on Acast. Chris Coyier needs no introduction and it was a pleasure to have him on the show. Being a front end engineer as well we were able to chat about CSS and front end technologies, product development and running a profitable business, virtual assistants and of course getting into the nitty-gritty of Codepen. Devin Miller is an entrepreneur with more degrees than you can shake a stick at. We have a great talk about his startup and his career as a patent and trademark attorney and how he combined these two interests, putting his law degree to good use by securing several patents for his startup and how he turned this into his IP law firm to help others. He gives us some advice on how to navigate the confusing and complex global IP laws and Devin also has some great resources available on his website,So if you're at that stage in your startup or thinking of securing the intellectual property for your idea and you find this part of doing business as difficult to grasp as we do then I think you'll enjoy this talk.Edited by: Samuel GregoryProduced by: Samuel Gregory and Chris AddamsTheme Music by: Chris AddamsSponsored by: Jupiter and the GiraffeWebsite: https://thattech.showYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4paazkqrlwtB_WW28w4GsgInstagram: @thattechshow_Twitch: https://twitch.tv/thattechshowTikTok: @thattechshowPatreon: @thattechshowLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/thattechshow/Get in touch: hello@thattech.show Hosted on Acast. Tudor Girba is on the show today and introduces us to the concept of moldable development with the Glamorous Toolkit which he created. Glamorous Toolkit is a modern evolution on-top of small talk which first appeared in 1972 and with this new twist Tudor aims to find a faster route for us to understand the code in a system without having to read it, which as we discuss, is what developers spend 50% of their time doing.Glamourous Toolkit can be used anywhere, by anyone and it is a replacement for your usual development environment. Buy Daniels's book: https://amzn.to/3zNjnoxThis is a deep conversation and a really great talk. I think I've had to listen to this several times myself just to take in all the learnings. Luckily Daniel makes this really accessible for us all to get our teeth into with stories of unplanned ice cream and helping us decipher the difference between Pawns, Prawns and P**n.
