Episode #54 How to Enhance Business Valuation in discussion Expert : Vinay Pandya , Managing Partner , Mantraa Advisory Why did we do this episode: We often hear founders and business owners discussing their business valuation — but rarely do they talk about what they're actually doing to improve it. Another common misconception is that business valuation is only necessary when raising capital or planning an exit. In reality, when approached as an ongoing process rather than a one-time event, a business valuation exercise can serve as a powerful lever for strategic growth, even without an immediate fundraising or sale in sight.

In this episode, Oliver Cronk dives into the world of Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) with Tom Fairbairn from Solace and Scott Logic's Gordon Campbell. The discussion explores whether EDA has matured beyond the hype into a practical strategy for modern systems integration, or if it's just another architectural buzzword. Together, they unpack the core principles of EDA, its role in taming point-to-point integration chaos, and how asynchronous processing can help smooth demand spikes. Drawing on real-world examples from finance, retail, and public sector projects, the conversation highlights the power and pitfalls of adopting EDA. Whether you're navigating legacy systems, planning a cloud migration, or exploring AI integration, this episode offers a grounded perspective on when – and when not – to go event-driven. Shannon Hamilton of BlackBerry Radar talks about the digital trends shaping 2025; tech challenges; event-driven data; and the importance of scalable solutions. IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS: [04.24] An introduction to Shannon and BlackBerry Radar. “We truly believe that doing more with our partners is a value-add for our customers.” [05.50] From AI and blockchain to IoT, the big digital trends that are going to shape 2025. “Some of the trends are really about: How are we using the information, how are we connecting with partners – and how are we making it smart.” [07.23] The biggest challenges Shannon sees across the industry when it comes to technology. “How do you buy technology that meets your needs today, but is also scalable as your business grows and evolves?” [08.43] The business-level challenges standing in the way of successful tech implementations and digital transformations. [11.00] Why technology is a foundation for process optimization, the importance of focusing on integrating the right tech into our businesses, and why it's OK to try out multiple technologies. “Piloting and testing tech is very important – there's still a time and a place to try out some of the new things we're seeing.” [13.02] The benefits of combining technology implementation with physical assets, and how it can drive business improvement. [16.04] BlackBerry's Radar Asset Tracking Solution, how it works, and how it's delivering more data for customers. “We're seeing more and more customers get excited about the data – but they want more.” [18.57] How BlackBerry Radar pulls data together into one pane of glass, and the benefits for their customers. “We want our data to be intelligent. The last thing we want our customers to do is sift through lots of data. So we easily surface all the critical events… we make life easy.” [20.33] Why, in a climate of cost-cutting, disruption, and failing digital transformation projects, scalable technology solutions are key. [22.32] A case study showing how BlackBerry Radar helped a customer improve turn times and move assets through their lanes faster, ultimately driving operational efficiency, reducing cost, and improving revenue. This week's guest describes Event Sourcing as, “all I'm going to use for the rest of my career.” But what is Event Sourcing? How should we think about it, and how does it encourage us to think about writing software? In this episode we take a close look at systems designed around the idea of Events, with guest Bobby Calderwood. Bobby's been designing (and helping others design) event based architectures for many years, and enthusiastically recommends it not only as a system-design technique, but as a way of solving business problems faster and more reliably.During this discussion we look at the various ways of defining event systems, what tools we need to implement them, and the advantages of thinking about software from an event-based perspective. Along the way we discuss everything from Clojure, Bitemporality & Datomic to Kafka and more traditional databases - all in the service of capturing real-world events and building simple systems around them.–EventStoreDB: https://developers.eventstore.com/The CloudEvents standard: https://cloudevents.io/Datomic: https://www.datomic.com/Adam Dymitruk's Event Modelling Explanation: https://eventmodeling.org/Bobby's Event Modelling course: https://developer.confluent.io/courses/event-modeling/intro/Bobby on Twitter: https://twitter.com/bobbycalderwoodBoddy on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bobbycalderwood/Kris on Twitter: https://twitter.com/krisajenkinsKris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krisjenkins/–#software #softwarepodcast #programming #eventsourcing #eventdrivenarchitecture #kafka

While the system reacting to events published in other parts of the system seem elegant, some of the complexities they bring can be challenging. However, they do offer durability, autonomy & flexibility. In this episode, we'll define event-driven architecture, discuss the problems it solves, challenges it poses & potential solutions.

Show Notes Welcome to The Modern .NET Show! Formerly known as The .NET Core Podcast, we are the go-to podcast for all .NET developers worldwide and I am your host Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, I spoke with Josh Garverick about event-driven and domain-driven design, and his recently published book "Implementing Event-Driven Microservices Architecture in .NET 7". When talking about the book, he had this to say about it's target audience: "Absolutely. And one of the aims, I think for at least this book was to make sure that it's kind of applicable across a lot of different audiences, not just the folks coming in super green and just looking at it like, I've never seen this stuff before. There are some disclaimers in the beginning of the book, obviously saying, 'you should probably have at least a baseline understanding of things like domain-driven design containerization and things like that,' but we'll link out to resources to get yourself up to speed. So even if you don't have any background in that stuff, there's at least a place for you to go out and get that information and then come back and then start going through that journey." - Josh Garverick Not only is his book designed for people, regardless of where they are on their journey with .NET, but, as we'll find out in the episode, it's also filled with pragmatic lessons that developers can apply to any application that they're working on.
