Echoes of Resounding Love: A True Story of A Polygamous Kid's Journey to Spiritual Awakening

In today's episode, we have a conversation with Clayne Edward Wayman. He was a former member of the FLDS polygamist group referred to as "The Work." His new book Echos of Resounding love, A true story of a polygamist kid's journey to spiritual awakening" Is a gripping tale of Survival, abuse, faith, suppression, adultery, polygamy, enlightenment, and hope. Clayne has undergone a complete transformation from the lifestyle and beliefs he was raised with. He found the courage to challenge what the Divine means to him and discovered the sacredness of women and the role of men as we evolve. Hearing a man's perspective on this topic is incredibly powerful. The foundation of the polygamist culture is rooted in Patriarchy. Women are treated as currency as they multiply the congregation from within. It also speaks to the early days of the LDS church when members openly practiced polygamy.  Clayne tells a visual story of the challenges he faced in his culture. Some of these moments are hard to hear, but the honesty in his approach is validating, and the reader is cheering him on as they move through the pages. Speaking his truth and telling his story is intended to reach others who are struggling and share his message of love.  In our interview with Clayne, he shares how he put his church's prophecy to the test and how in that process, he discovered the divinity that makes up a woman and, in return, a man as well. We were fascinated by his story and encourage you to purchase his book. It's available for pre-order and immediately for kindle.  https://www.amazon.com/s?k=echos+of+resounding+love&crid=3PR4S5ND8BHLR&sprefix=echos+of+resounding+%2Caps%2C150&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_20 FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/claynew

Are you consciously living for yourself? We've been raised in a society that has taught us as women that our service to others is paramount and the ultimate priority. We tend to sacrifice our needs for those around us and frequently settle for the leftovers. We are in changing times that are asking us to emerge from the heaviness of the invisible expectations. We are being challenged to discover joy, pleasure, and connection.   New moms are easily overwhelmed during the postpartum phase of life.  As we age, we collide with our middle life and feel empty-handed and hearted in the lonely moments of completing the most monumental work in our lifetime. It becomes critical that, as young women, we learn to find moments of consciousness and peace, love and joy. This empowers us with tools as we face our middle life when kids grow up and move on.  There is an uprising, and it's calling on all of us to explore the margins, expand our ability to dip into our joyful power, make time for our precious souls and create community with other women. Find times for connection with other women. Have dance parties, feel your emotions, and capture the joy we offer each other as we explore our wild nature.  BOOK: Pussy a Reclamation https://www.amazon.com.au/Pussy-Reclamation-Regena-Thomashauer/dp/1401950264

Expectations, seem to dwell under the foundation of everything we do in life. We are held to their impossible standards and unconsciously hold those we love to ours.  Expectations we place on ourselves can become great benchmarks to achieve goals and find success, but when we project them onto others we become disappointed or dissatisfied in relationships.  We share our own experiences that show how expecting more from someone than they can actually give can harm connections. But when we learn to loosen and release these expectations we can find freedom and extract deeper meaning from smaller moments. The holidays are full of pressures more than we can even count. So for those of you who struggle, feel anxiety, and are not sure how you will get through know that you are not alone.  The holidays come and go just like every other day. Remember to put your own mental health first and think about boundaries that will help you navigate. Reach out to a trusted ally and share what's going on. The act of speaking your truth keeps you from spiraling. Allowing another to witness you and hold space for you is one of the greatest gifts you will give yourself!  We wish you all of the magic this season and hold you all in such high regard. We are so thankful for this community of support! We are so excited to see The Art of Joy continue into 2022!  www.theartofjoy.com

Our conversation with Becca Piastrelli brought us the grounding and connection we didn't even know we needed. Her new book Root and Ritual drops November 16th. She breaks it into four chapters that focus on the following: Reconnect with the land Reclaim the gifts of your ancestors Connecting to community Returning to yourself As a culture we are all connected online, yet find ourselves moving further away from belonging, to ourselves, the land and each-other.  She quotes, that "women as healers and leaders lives in our DNA. Our maternal ancestors held the gifts of healing and spiritual leadership."  We learn about ceremony and ritual and why it's more important than ever to re engage our energy towards these deeper connections.  We speak about honoring the birth and death cycle and really lean into grief. It's important that we learn to lean in to these moments and provide a listening ear to those around us who are struggling.  We cant recommend this book enough. Rising from The Good Girl Mentality

In this episode, we tackle the foreboding cultural identity of being a "Good Girl" and how that label can hold back our ability to tune in. We, as women, are intuitive beings and creative forces. Many of us are taught that we need to cover our bodies from a young age not to tempt men. We are also asked to be "good wives, daughters, sisters." We get scolded for using our voice and speaking our truth. Our bigger questions are volleyed back at us with "you must have faith, or I said so." There is deep shame attached to truth-telling when it goes against the culture. We have learned that we have more in common at the birthplace of our struggles and traumas than in any other place. We curate content that shows our good side, our perfectness, our success. And that's honestly fine as long as we allow ourselves a platform, to tell the truth and share the stories of our struggle and growth. We share our personal struggle to maintain the good girl image and how we each found our power when we let our wild, unapologetic voices be heard. It's terrifying to throw caution to the wind, to shout truth into a wind storm that drowns our voices. We have both found freedom that elevates us at the level of our soul. It was the gift that being courageous gave back to us in perpetuity. Honesty and storytelling are the foundation for healing and growth. We realized that healing is as simple as shifting a perspective. You can do that by questioning everything. When you ask better questions, your soul starts churning, and it spits out new ideas and ways to perceive the world. We will leave you with some of the questions we ask ourselves when we are stuck in a limiting belief. Is this true? Who am I without being influenced? What do I get to claim as my own? How can I heal through this? What are the gifts hiding inside this trauma? What do I want my future to look like? What do I dream for myself? How can I see this situation differently? What are the gifts I offer the world? We are working on our own, deprogramming from a culture that has held us back from speaking our truth. We would love to hear about your journey and insights if this is something you are working on. www.theartofjoy.com

In this episode, we open up about the struggles we are both currently navigating and how vital self-compassion becomes during challenging days. We need to give ourselves grace because it's not always easy to find outside of ourselves. We are living in such a comparative world, and having access to everyone's curated lives can take us down if we aren't paying attention. We all face struggles, some hit harder than others, and sometimes we feel more equipped to handle those struggles. Other times we are exhausted and feel like we are stuck in the weeds with no tools at all to navigate our way out. We've learned that being gentle with these tender soul moments is the only outreach we need to provide ourselves. To tap into the idea that we are perfect just as we are often gives enough breathing room to figure out the next step towards healing. We are often in dialogue with younger wounded versions of who we are. It can feel confusing to move forward when the 8-year-old version of our psyche is having a tantrum. Stepping back and becoming the observer often allows us time to gather our thoughts and find just the right tools to navigate our way into joy. We have both been dealing with growing pains and healing aspects of old wounds that have lived In the shadows for too long. Addressing our truth, speaking it out loud, and sharing with others who have earned the right to hear our story will go a long way in our ability and confidence to rise over and over again. In this episode, we share some of the issues we have been dealing with, share exciting news with our family, and work on making our work more expansive. Thank you for your support and love. Women. We are strong, powerful, intuitive, and creative beings. We have the capacity to hold each other up or tear each other down. As we come to the end of international women month, we want to celebrate all of you who are making the world go round! This episode speaks to all of the gifts, both hidden and visible, that we all share. We discuss how we can turn our passions and deeper feelings into movements, and side hustles, even full-blown enterprises. Sometimes a friendship is born, and it changes the course of your life. In a world where life can seem so hard to manage, finding your tribe can be one of the most important investments you will ever make. Women need to come together and encourage each other. It's easy to compare ourselves against one another and find all of the ways we don't measure up. But if we could help each other recognize our gifts and support that growth, we all win. The truth is, there is room for all of us—we aren't competing for anything but acceptance and community. And above all, love. Our conversation with Monica takes you on the journey of a lifelong friendship that had endured the test of time. Monica is such a powerful example of converting your passions, ideas, and thoughts into so much more. She shares how she has turned her desires into movements and how they have evolved into public service. Her courage to unapologetically move through life has put her in a powerful position. If elected, she will become the first Mayor in her city. Her capacity to see, hear, and feel the needs of those around her is her superpower. To become a voice for those who struggle is something we can all do. What lights you up? How can you become a witness to another human? The truth is, we all have more in common with our struggles than we do with any curated life. If we can find those who have earned the right to hear our stories and share the good, the bad, and the ugly, we change the world. We hope this episode inspires you to search deeper for your passions and make conscious efforts to be a witness to those you love most. In this episode we invite our dear friend Diana Anderson to talk to us about her gifts as a channel and medium. "A channel is a passageway, a means of access for a thing, a communication, or an idea." So many of us have varying degrees of this gift and don't realize it. If you get downloads of information and ideas during prayer or meditation, that's a form of the divine working through you. Some people are channeled writers, and when they sit down to transcribe, the information flows from them effortlessly. Most artists will have a deeper connection and inspiration that comes when they are creating. Symphonies have been channeled from the greats of our time. All of these are aspects of our higher self communicating with the divine element in all of us.  Developing a spiritual practice requires commitment and patience. It's shifting your daily life to make room for the growth and practices that resonate with you. Regardless of your religion or spiritual beliefs, we can all take it a step further by committing to expand our awareness. It really becomes a way of life, and each step we take brings us closer to that alignment with our true nature and divine spirit.  At the end of this episode, Diana gives us a channeled reading. It's a beautiful message, and we hope that this episode leaves you reflecting on your own gifts. Today we have Sean Patrick McPeak back on our show. He is a powerful healer, therapist, Psychotherapist, Depth Psychologist, and Shaman. He has a gift for acting as a mirror and reflecting back the most delicate parts of your soul that need healing. He holds the space you need to heal old wounds and find the insights that will assist you as you heal. We are excited to share this insightful conversation with you. Shifting your perspective is a hidden superpower. So often, we respond from those unconscious parts of the wounds we carry. We tend to get stuck in the loop of the stories we tell, like a hamster wheel. Breaking this pattern and old beliefs can be as simple as shifting the way we perceive it. If you find yourself in the middle of an ending in life, you may feel like you are being swallowed whole by the anxiety of the darkness that surrounds you. If you can make room for the possibility of a beginning, this little shift can act as a flicker of light in the impossible times that you have to contend with. It's always a good practice to understand how your physical body reacts to trauma. When bad things happen, where do you feel it in your body? Sean explains that understanding these pings are actually messengers trying to inform you. If you allow yourself to get curious about these messengers who show up in the way of feelings, you can ask more profound questions and move towards healing. Shifting your perspective is the first step in re-programming a new neural network of beliefs and responses to anxiety and trauma. Katie Jo brings us her insight and wisdom for sound healing, energy vibrations, and connection. We are beings made of energy, water, vibration, and frequency. When life hands us hell in a handbasket, we can become paralyzed. Fear, pain, grief, loneliness, and worry that things will never get better can bring our entire life to a halt. Sound therapy is a proven tool to help our brain relax into theta states of relaxation. The drum's sound is our first introduction to the rhythm when we hear our mother's heartbeat in the womb. Katie Jo reminds us that as we comfort our babies with pats on the back and their ears held tightly to our chest, we are creating this most basic form of sound that soothes a restless infant. As we grow and gain independence, we move away from the powerful healing sounds that have been a part of every human's beginning. The drum's sound is the heart's sound, a steady beat that can calm the storm when it's raging inside. In general, music has the power to lift our mood, calm our mind, make us spontaneously break into dance and movement, and form human connection and healing. Katie Jo is the owner of Sage Canvas, a beautiful space in Lehi, Utah. She offers drum circles, sound therapies, drum-making workshops, guided meditations, shamanic healing, and so many other soul supporting services. Our world seems to have gone mad. We are more divided now than ever. Our ability to connect with the entire planet of 7 billion humans through social media has opened pandora's box. We need to come together and work on the collective shadow that has become a raging storm. We feel bombarded with noise, confusion, and interference that lives within our unconscious being. We need to slow down and look around for those who are disconnected and suffering. We would benefit by sitting around the metaphoric campfire and beat our drums together as a tool to soothe so many wounded souls. Rhythm and sound are a universal language, and the earth that holds us so sweetly has a pulse and vibration, an ebb and flow that mirrors us. If we can find this deeper connection, plug it into the deeper syncopation surrounding us and slow down enough to feel it, we might just set foot on a healing journey. Katie Jo offers us such a grounded space and so many offerings that become a bridge for healing and connection. This Christmas comes with a little extra sparkle. We have been graced with a planetary conjunction that falls on the winter solstice, our darkest night of the year. 2020 has been rougher than expected for all of us. Our collective grief and struggle are palpable. It feels like we've been holding our breath for 12 months, waiting for the sky to fall, picking up the pieces when it does, and wondering what our tomorrows might look like. The natural world has a beautiful way of showing us her cycles and how to navigate them. As dark as times get, the potential for light always lives under the shadows. Sometimes it can take a long time to find that flicker, and sometimes it comes flooding in like a wave. But the universal truth is that it exists. Whether we can discover it or not, becomes our work. It requires us to be patient and sit in the uncomfortable feelings that ride shotgun with heavy emotions. We have to get curious about how we feel and the circumstances that life drops on us from out of nowhere. Our ability to rise is in direct proportion to our ability to sit with and feel our pain. There are such beautiful lessons that live in these middle spaces. The Art of Joy is truly a process. The Art is the journey, and Joy is finding wholeness. It's a slow and patient embarking into places that make us uncomfortable. Just as we have moved through the darkest night of the year, we are now returning to brighter days. The cycle is consistent and reminds us that the days get more hopeful after being dark for so long. It's also a beautiful metaphor to have a conjunction light up the sky like a smoke signal that assures us that we can indeed rise. As we wrap up another year as a podcasting duo, we are blessed by all of you who support our work. With a new year upon us, we are excited to watch The Art of Joy unfold and grow even more. We wish all of you little flickers of light and insane courage to navigate the dark moments. We love you dearly and pray that peace will find you in small moments of stillness. The collective pulse of our world is presenting a lot of shadows all at once. We are in a global pandemic. Some are terrified of getting sick and have vulnerable people in their care. Others are fearful of too much control and having rights taken away. In addition, we are living in an unsettled political climate where choosing a side comes with unprecedented pressures and consequences. On its own, this is enough to take secure and otherwise confident humans down a dark rabbit hole. But then when we add the everyday struggles, the traumas, and losses, the disconnected feelings, it feels like a weighted blanked holding us down, not letting us breathe, questioning everything.   It is our thought that regardless of what is happening globally if we lose our way with each other, the consequences are too significant. We are all on a unique journey, hopefully evolving and growing along the way. So much of that comes after we have survived trauma, loss, anger, sadness. We all have a unique blueprint that requires us to process life-based on our specific needs. If we lose our connections with each other because we remain divided, we lose everything. When we struggle or are in the middle of trauma, we need each other to survive. When storms wipe out towns, we come together to rebuild. When people are displaced by tragedy, we come together to find solutions. We open our homes and hearts when others absorb a life-changing loss. The Art of Joy is the journey to wholeness. A peek inside of our spiritual practice

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 11, 2020 56:56

In today's episode, we discuss a spiritual practice that has been around since the beginning of time. Shamans are the medicine men and women of their communities and tribes. They work to heal the earth, the animals, and the people. Connecting back to nature, and using all of its rich metaphor, has the ability to inform us at the level of our soul. We can talk about our struggles all day long, but if we want to discover healing, we need to learn the language of the soul and how our original wounds continue to inform us at the unconscious level. Our work is ancestral, and our ability to adapt and evolve is what catapults change into the future for our children and humanity as a whole. The shamans of old are chosen, taught by oral tradition, and appointed as the healer. But this work has been shared widely with the Western cultures. We are industrial, inventive, and consumer-driven. We work ourselves into illness and swallow our pain to make the next big promotion, car, or house. There is nothing wrong with our ambitions and ability to thrive, but if we don't slow down and find respite from time to time, we burn out and get sick. The Shamans from the High Andes have seen the need to share ceremony, energy medicine, and soul healing. This is not a religion but a spiritual practice. We have adapted its teachings to elevate our own life experiences. Ceremony is the act of storytelling. It captures the unconscious parts of our psyche and makes it all visible. From this place, we can work with our stories, understand our triggers, and re-wire how we respond to trauma. It's a beautiful dance with the creative parts that often get pushed down and put aside. It helps us plug back into the currency of the earth and all that is happening around us. When we allow the ebb and flow of the natural world to become a divination tool, we can shift our perspective and find joy where there was pain, light where it always seemed dark. Our practice combines the depth work of Carl Jung, along with quantum physics and epigenetic inherited emotions. As we combine science with mythical practices, we find ourselves thriving despite our challenges. Healing our mind and our soul, the stories we tell and pass on is where our work needs to be. This brief introduction will give you a glimpse of the way we navigate. Stay tuned as we bring you many other practical tools that will assist you in your journey. www.theartofjoy.com https://instagram.com/theartofjoypodcast?igshid=11jazoxyie255

The art of spending time alone. So many of us as women spend our time in our families' service and struggle to find those treasured moments of alone time. It's also really easy to put all kinds of pressure on yourself when you do have a few minutes to take a breath. We feel like we should be doing a meaningful goal setting or meditations and, in the process, lose the moment. It often feels like our heads are swimming in the past. We are either reflecting on things that happened or processing all of the successes and failures. We also get stuck thinking about what's coming. What do we have to do to prepare for tomorrow, next week and next month? We are always reaching back and looking forward. How often do we just stop, drop, and sit in the moment we are in. The exact space and time that surrounds us in the moment? Listen to the episode and hear the challenge Dane gave to us, and you too! Let's try doing it and see what happens! In today's episode, we bring back Jill MacFarlane from the Sharing Place. She is a child development specialist, and we talk all about the chaos of 2020. She shares ideas about how we can address COVID, Death, economic stress, etc. with our children. Her best tip sounds simple, but it is actually a lot harder to practice than it sounds. LISTENING. There is so much being said in our families that we miss when we are quick to respond. Reflective listening is responding and repeating without judgment. If a child says, "I'm scared." And you reply, "Oh, It sounds like you are afraid." The human psyche feels heard and almost always continues a conversation. Listening and repeating is a great way to make others feel seen and heard. Children will ask questions or make statements about things that are bothering them. When they mention feeling afraid, sad, and frustrated, we can use reflective listening to take a deeper dive and help them unpack big emotions. We also believe that teaching children all of the different emotions and what they feel like is one of the most empowering gifts we can offer them. If a child can recognize that they are angry, we can help them process and filter that emotion. At the sharing place, there is a volcano room set aside for big emotions. It's fully padded and full of soft objects that can be thrown at the walls. Kids can jump around and release energies they have been holding in. You know it's been a good night when you can hear the volcano room's sounds throughout the house. We all need these escapes and pressure releases. So many of us have been taught to suppress and sweep away our big hard feelings. But we end up with a pile the size of a landfill, and either get sick or lose it. Emotional maturity and practicing our listening skills are the most connected ways we can show up for each other. Allowing those we love to feel safe showing us who they are, instead of who we think they should be. The Sharing Place is having its annual Day of the Dead auction on October 24th at 6:30 pm to raise funds for the children and families that benefit from this incredible grief support. What it means to be a Chain Breaker

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 12, 2020 55:17

What does it mean to be a chain breaker, and why is something we should be paying attention to? The science of epigenetics tells us that we inherit more than our eye color, freckles, and stature from our ancestors. They also pass on emotional traumas, survival instincts, illness, etc. The expression could be mild or take over aspects of who we are becoming. If poverty and fear were part of your ancestor's story, you could have elements or beliefs about lack showing up in your subconscious. If we are going to tackle this level of healing, we need to take a deep dive into our unconscious programs and start unpacking and clearing out the attic. So how do we do it? It takes self-awareness and paying attention to the ways we respond in stressful situations. Do you run away from struggle, get angry, shut down, get aggressive? Our behaviors and responses are like the breadcrumbs we leave on the trail to navigate our way straight into our wounds. We break chains by doing our life different enough from the past to create a healed state. Once we can see and understand the origin of the unconscious, we can begin the work of healing. Breaking a chain means we are laying down the weight of old stories, and working with our family to create new ideas, radical improvements, and creative ways to move forward with strength. We tend to attract situations and people who act as a mirror for those parts of ourselves we try to hide. When we search for the gift that lives in the shadows, our wholeness is born. The traits we hide because we are told they are wrong, show us where we can find growth and healing. It's scary to unpack aspects of ourselves that we don't love. It's an act of courage to pull back the curtain and question our own darkness and then discover the gift it is trying to offer. Walking head first into the cave of our soul is where our biggest magic is found. When we allow ourselves to mourn our own dark moments, we make space for light to fill the void. A global pandemic, earthquakes, fires, racial issues, and election drama are sweeping our news feeds and filling our minds. People experiencing anxiety is at an all-time high. When the shadows of the world seem to be swallowing us, we turn to mindfulness and meditation as a way to find our balance and center. A few minutes spent in meditation can turn a bad day around. And when it can't take away our problems, it goes a long way in helping our nervous system to handle the overload. If we can all take 10 minutes to focus on our breath, fill our bellies with air, and blow our worries out, we will cope with our struggles and overwhelm so much better. Somehow and someway, we are going to come out of this crazy year together. Let's continue to listen, learn, support, and honor all of our differences. Together we weave a beautiful tapestry!

When you heal the past you change the future

Play Episode Listen Later May 29, 2020 61:22

In today's episode, we tackle the concept of Quantum Physics and epigenetic's. This research is the science that proves we have control over all aspects of our life. The wave function theory explains that electrons exist simultaneously in an infinite array of possibilities. They are like invisible outcomes or probabilities with endless potential and possibilities. When any one electron, or possibility is observed, all of the energy of that thought and observation collapse everything around it. It then receives all of the input and can absorb all of the power and become a reality. "If you can imagine a future event in your life based on any one of your desires, that reality already exists as a possibility in the quantum field, waiting to be observed by you. If your mind can influence the appearance of an electron, then theoretically, it can influence the appearance of any possibility." So this also means that we can manifest the negative beliefs that run in our unconscious programming. As we work to change our beliefs and shift the unconscious programs that live inside of us, this new way of thinking is passed down to our children and grandchildren. If your unconscious program came from your parents and their program came from their parents, you can see that we pass forward threads of feelings, ideas, and beliefs that are outdated. We can see the inherited aspect of epigenetic's living in our own perception of the environment we are raised in. Once we understand this, we can look to the behaviors and unconscious downloads that no longer serve us and change them. We can pass our healed state forward. For the first time in forever, we have the knowledge to do better. When I elevate my understanding and heal old wounds, it is observed by my children and grandchildren. If they are then able to see the behavior in me change, it gets passed on as a new truth because it was observed by them. As we chip away at this, as we heal the past, we literally are changing the future. The act of observing ourselves gives us the option to see an old wound, recognize how it is not serving us, and choose to see something more powerful instead. When we look into our own soul and get curious, we can choose to observe a better way. We can change who we are becoming. When we change who we are becoming consciously, we pass that forward. This episode marks the second anniversary of the Art of Joy. Our podcast was born from collective healing, sharing of stories, and journeying into the shadows that life asks us to carry. Sharing our stories has a way of laying a foundation of empathy and compassion that may otherwise escape our reality. We have had the honor to sit with, so may brave souls and shared their most difficult moments and success. We have learned that growth can be born from what may seem like an impossible situation. We are so thankful for our listeners. We appreciate all of your feedback and look forward to exploring, sharing, and learning. Today we talk to Daniel, the chief development officer, of Make a Wish. He and his team develop the resources to grant wishes. They are the fundraising arm that allows this foundation to function. We also have a heartwarming conversation with Jenna, a 16-year-old wish recipient. She was given the most magical sweet 16 birthday party. This community event brought hundreds to celebrate. She shares with us her health struggles and shows us her courage.  The real magic of Make a Wish is in the development and storytelling that is born from a small idea. A little girl's desire to taste snow is transformed into a winter wonderland experience for the child and her family. There is a creative aspect that fuels the development of each wish. Children are asked to consider anywhere in the world they would go, Anyone, they would love to meet. They also discuss who they would like to become if anything were possible, or what would they do if there were no limits. The journey of this process gives birth to a miracle for each child. Make a wish creates a magical story that unfolds from an idea. "Research shows that a wish can give kids the strength to fight against and even overcome a critical illness." Children's pediatric journals reported that kids with a wish and hope are more likely to stick to their treatments and have fewer ER visits. The space of hope creates a space for healing. We all need to have light flickering in our dark times. Granting wishes to children is the most magical gift that can be given to a family who struggles. We are supporting Make a Wish through their ambassador program. If you feel called to make a donation, you can contribute here. The Guest House This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Happy Holidays from The Art of Joy. As we are moving into a New Year and new decade, we want to approach it from a place of growth and abundance. What is the difference between goal-setting vs. intention setting? We believe that intentions are deeply rooted in our feelings and desires, and goals are the outcome. If we can learn to focus our attention inward on the intentions we set, the goals we crave will feel within our reach. It's a small shift in the way we approach the new year and all of the possibilities that await us. Instead of setting a goal to loose weight, try moving into the feelings of living healthy and loving your body exactly as it is. Realize what your beautiful body can do for you now and ask yourself what it needs to perform even better. Rather than setting a goal to have more money, appreciate and have gratitude for what you currently have. Then ask yourself what steps you can take to increase that abundance. Appreciation for the smallest things in our life opens us to the opportunities to create more. If you have a goal to find your true love, recognize first the people in your life that are your tribe. Let that love fill your heart and then ask yourself how you can expand that love outward to attract more of it back to you. These are just simple shifts in the way we move into a new year, knowing that we will be inundated with feedback from our social media world. We will feel the pressure more now than ever to become the most. We believe that if you can turn that energy inward and find gratitude for what is already there, we can all create the abundance we crave. Ask yourself what your intentions are. Then you can look forward to the goals you desire, becoming the prize at the end of the journey. Trauma will visit all of us in some way, throughout our lifetime. In today's conversation, Doug shares with us a string of heartbreak that led him on a journey of enlightenment and healing. He shares with us the tragic loss of his father, and how the pressure he felt to move on with life rather than grieving took its toll. He had a devastating break up with his soul mate and encountered a faith crisis. Grieving is a universal language and expression. It's healthy to cry and lament when tragedy strikes. And even when the day to day feels overwhelming. As a society that has been top-loaded with patriarchy, the message has always been that "Boys don't cry." Suppressing grief, trauma, and crisis is like a trash compactor inside of our souls. Eventually, the landfill gets full, and it has to come out. We believe that teaching our children emotional intelligence is the most essential skill set they will take into adult life. To name a feeling and then have the ability to express it will allow them to find a connection in all aspects of life. If you have ever had a faith crisis or questioned your religion, you may be familiar with the fear and shame that rides shotgun on that journey. How dare you abandon or even examine the walls that put you in a box? We often feel this sense of lostness when we leave the traditions of worship that we have grown up with since birth. How do we navigate a sabbath day if we are not in the church participating in the ceremony? It requires a whole new way of looking at spirituality and finding a connection to powers higher than ourselves. It's essential to explore all of the options and find a path that feels right to you. Some ideas or things that have been invaluable to us are; Meditation, Yoga, prayer, observing nature, understanding metaphor, and being able to apply it — working with Chakras, and earth cycles, (Full moon energies, etc.) For some finding, a new faith-based religion fills the gap and provides a sense of peace. At the end of it all, it's a practice returning to yourself, discovering all of the miracles that make you special and unique. What can you offer this world that no one else can? Doug has created an app called The Daily Shifts. It's a user-friendly experience that keeps a deeper connection simple. It introduces you to inspiring quotes, breathwork, and meditation. As you evolve, so does the app. We are so thankful that Doug shared his raw and vulnerable journey with us. We hope that you will find a more profound message and use "The Daily Shifts" to assist you along your pilgrimage of finding self-love and connection. We are here to offer different perspectives and out of the box thinking. We always try to provide tools that will assist you as you navigate the shadows that life casts on us all. We are always so humbled by the support you give us, and the way that each one of you shows up in the world. You are so talented and valuable. We are blessed to walk this journey with you! Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully

Today we are having a conversation about the end of life and support we can use, with our guest Mindy Relyea. Mindy is the founding director of One Wish World, a humanitarian, and a friend. She feels dedicated to sitting with those who suffer and inviting others to do the same. As a Certified End of Life Doula, Mindy believes we can truly enrich our lives by engaging in nurturing conversations around death and dying. She helps us share the vulnerable, tender parts of our hearts and our lives. So what is a Death Doula? "An end-of-life doula is a person who provides emotional, social, spiritual, and practical support to those who are planning for or nearing end-of-life. They focus on a continuity of care throughout all stages of end-of-life, which typically begins with diagnosis and proceeds through to death, and then beyond into post-death bereavement support." We are familiar with birth Doula's, trained non-medical professionals, who attend to the birth of a new baby. They offer support to the mother and all who are present to welcome this new life into a family. Very similarly, a Death Doula works on the other end of life. They help prepare family members to say goodbye to their loved ones and to assist the dying with fears, doubts, and all of the concerns that come when we face the end of life. We can easily understand and welcome birth. It's adding life and love to our ever-growing families. Death, on the other hand, requires us to say goodbye to life long love, companionship, and very close members of our tribe. Saying goodbye asks us to go through life without conversations, touch, comfort, and physical presence of those we hold so dear. Talking about death helps us dive deeper into our own fears around it. Having a Doula allows us to process the fear, and learn how to move forward with our own living. It's offering tools to survive when the pain of loved ones dying feels shattering and paralyzing. Her organization also offers support when death is an unexpected visitor. They are able to teach coping skills when our loved ones are taken too soon or unexpectedly.  Mindy's organization Ever Presence is holding a symposium in December called "Conversations on Death + Dying and Living Well." The Zen Hospice Project will be offering a workshop, and you will hear from experts in the field.  We believe that healing is born from the shadows. That fear leads us to courage, and life, as well as death, are where we grow, heal, and leave legacies. We will all hold death in our hands at some point. We are inviting this conversation to the table in hopes of educating and inspiring all of us to take a closer look at death. And to lean on the resources that are available to help us get through.    Please visit;  https://www.everpresence.org/ Sign up for the Symposium  December 7-8, 2019  Ember 623 State Street  Salt Lake City Utah For more info visit www.theartofjoy.com

In this episode, we go on a pilgrimage of vibrant and raw conversation with Sadie Jane. She guides us through her journey of early childhood trauma and how it led to eating disorders, suicide Ideation, and body dysmorphia. She was brave enough to step outside of the box and seek hypnosis as a form of healing. It was through this process that Sadie had her own breakthrough. She has been inspired to create programs that will take us all by the hand as we heal. Sadie is a genuinely inspired thought leader and healer, and her commitment to all of us is so beautiful.  Early Childhood trauma lands on all of us in different ways. It could stem from family issues or school, religion, or social groups. Epigenetic's is the science that has proven that we inherit more than our bone structure and eye colors from our parents. We also inherit the emotions and traumas of the ancestors that are woven into our DNA. The time has come to blow the lid off of our silence and shame. The time has come to reach into our past and heal our soul losses and ancestral patterns. When we heal the past, we change the future.  Looking at our deepest emotions and traumas is terrifying, sometimes crippling. Especially today, as we share with the world the best parts of who we are on social media. The truth is, we don't even know how incredible our potential really is until we dive into the issues that hold us back. Every time you unlock a soul loss or trauma wound and work with it, you change the trajectory of your life. It's through this brave act when we realize that the dark is always equal to the light. The deeper we are willing to go, the higher we are able to rise. Leaning in to our differences with compassion

In this episode, Kimberly Anderson asks us to expand our hearts and amplify our voices in support of our LGBTQIA community. Her honest and raw story draws us in and helps us understand that we are more alike than different. We all need to feel love, acceptance, and worth. We are all healing, growing, and expanding. We discuss several aspects of inclusion and ask how we can all do better. The word inclusivity can roll off our lips like butter, but without actionable efforts to embrace those around us who are different, we are just peacocking our ego. When we have privilege, genuine authenticity asks us to step into spaces where we can amplify and project the voices of others. Especially the marginalized groups who remain so judged and criticized, left out, and rejected. Our LGBTQIA community remains one of the most at-risk groups among us. The transgender community and trans women of color, specifically, are being killed just because they are showing us the truth of who they are. They are dying because they are living their truth. As a society and culture, there is still such a climate of intolerance. Certain people act out their rage by murdering those who may not look or act like the ideal they believe is the only truth. Also, when we ask our children to be straight when they are gay, we put them at risk of suicide. They feel shame for being unable to put OUR insecurities at ease. Our expansion and growth are in direct proportion to our ability to understand and embrace the differences that surround us. We do not have to agree, but our ability to offer an olive branch and accept that others are different will help us rise in authenticity and expansion. When we openly reject those who are different, we find that deception becomes a tool of survival. When anyone feels deep shame about who they are, lying to the community or family to fit in becomes second nature. At some point, we all have to step into the truth of who we are. For many, its a choice between being authentic or not existing at all. That's why the suicide rate among the LGBTQIA community is so alarming. Having the courage to live truthfully can come at significant risk. We have to do better. This episode is full of ideas and conversations that will help us all move in the right direction.  To listen to Kimberly's Podcasts on Sunstone; https://www.sunstonemagazine.com/sunstone-firesides-podcast/ http://facebook.com/kiimberly.anderson   Visit The Art of Joy for more information on each episode. www.theartofjoy.com

We are exploring the world of Mediums and Remote Viewing. Rebecca Arndt has had the gift of communicating with loved ones who have died since she was a child. Her gift of communicating with loved ones has helped solve criminal cases and brought peace to countless family members. She can answer hard questions and has helped those still living, reconcile the end of life issues that can leave us sitting in the dark. She is an evidential medium. This means that in a session with her, she will see factual parts of your life or story that confirm that the messages she is receiving are accurate and true. Rebecca has been trained in the art of remote viewing. She has worked on high profile cases that have been featured on 20/20 and dateline, and her accuracy has been consistent with the evidence of each case. She has also assisted law enforcement, helping them to solve cases that have gone cold. Remote viewing is a science that can be learned. It's been used in the US as early as 1972 under President Nixon's administration. Dr. David Morehouse was recruited by the CIA and trained in Remote Viewing. He has since brought this technology mainstream and has taught and trained groups how to see an event or moment in time, past, present or future, and gather information critical to the case. Rebecca received her training from Dr. Morehouse and has shared this gift with countless organizations and families. Her gift of being an Evidential Medium, combined with remote viewing, has proven to be the flicker of light needed when grieve is swallowing you. She offers peace around those unanswered questions that can haunt us. Sometimes our loved ones die, leaving us wondering what happened, or if they are okay. Sudden or unexpected passings can be very unsettling for family members. Rebecca's gift offers communication and insight into the realm of the unknown and brings peace and answers that assist our journey of healing. Rebecca has brought our family so much comfort over the years. She has shared messages from the other side, put us in touch with our loved ones, and helped us find clarity in really foggy and uncertain moments. Her ability to know the facts about personal aspects of our life leave us with a complete knowing that her gift is not only inspired, but founded in the highest integrity, and the greatest peace. Relationship, Boundaries + Self worth

Boundaries are hard. They seem harsh with prickly edges. But loving yourself is also one of the hardest endeavors. Our culture has told us that we need to be self-sacrificing and put others first. But we are learning and growing and realizing that we have to care for ourselves first if we are ever going to move forward with healing and enlightenment. How can we teach our children to be better if we don't show them the way? Setting boundaries is the first step towards self-love, confidence, and becoming the trailblazer of personal development and growth. Confidence and self-worth are embezzled on the back of NO boundaries. You become a welcome mat for those who thrive on the control they seek by taking advantage of others. Do not arbitrate your worth with those who seek to withdraw all of your energy for their own gain.   www.theartofjoy.com IG@theartofjoypodcast danielsimssteiner.com IG @danielsimssteiner

    Tangible Tools for Processing Emotions

Grief, shame, sadness, guilt, and fear lurk in the shadows. They hide deep in the landscape of our soul. It's easier to push them down and find distractions that keep us from taking a deeper look. What we know for sure is that we never escape our pain. We live with it either consciously or unconsciously. If we can dig it up like a treasure and sit across from it at the table, if we are willing to feed it and nurture it, we will then start to become an ally and find growth, healing, and abundance.  A transformation board assigns everyday items to represent the parts of our story that are hard to look at. And honestly, sometimes we fail to see. It's a lot easier to notice someone else's struggle, but turn a blind eye to our own. Find items that represent your grief and the emotions tied to it. Maybe a pinecone represents a deep feeling of grief or shame, and a shell lays on top of it to hide it. When you are able to look at the outward representation, you can start to acknowledge the emotions you hold on to. Light a candle to honor and bring light to your pain, and visit it each day giving thought and acknowledgment to your sadness. Over a few days, you may feel safe to remove the shell and not need to hide the raw emotion. Working with your inner feelings using this form of art therapy, can go a long way in helping you shine a light on the places that are easier held hostage in the dark.  This practice has helped us be in charge of the hard to look at emotions and feelings, rather than allowing the grief to swallow us and hold us prisoner to our own pain. Today we speak about our grief journey. We are days before the second anniversary date of Pauls disappearance. Grief comes in all shapes and sizes. It holds a myriad of emotions and there isn't one perfect way to navigate it. Going through loss of any kind is a labyrinth. You have to figure it out like a riddle. The one thing we all share in common is the fact that it changes who we are. No one comes out the other side the same way they went in. And it becomes a scar that we carry forever. Anniversary dates, places, songs, smells, people, can trigger our scar and activate it. We visit our emotions, honor the pain, and then hopefully emerge into the new life we have created around it.  Today we dive back into the wound, reflect on the growth, gifts, and blessings, and honor the impossible yet very possible landscape that has become our new normal. Ashlee beautifully articulates her emotions, feelings, and possibilities for a bright future. She speaks about parenting an infant and now toddler through the process. We hope this real and raw episode offers insights that you can pull from. We understand that loss, grief, and pain is like a chameleon, ever-changing and unpredictable. Perhaps that is why we find moments of magic in the dark. You have to squint harder to see and use all of your other senses like a razor focus to survive. From that place, we believe that we fine-tune our ability to expand through the shadow.  To any of you suffering, we see you. We love you, and we will continue to offer conversations in hopes of being the tiniest little flicker of hope in the darkest of times. This is what we call the Art Of Joy.  As always we would be nowhere without our editor Daniel Steiner. He edits our podcasts like a true pro. Navigating tragedy can be so tricky. And when you're a parent of a child who has been through the worst, how do you show up? We can only speak to the way that our family has shown up for each other in hopes that it may offer perspectives and insights. The most important thing any of us can do is our own personal work and healing. We are so often products of our environment and don't even realize where we have room for growth and change. When we are willing to look in the mirror and contend with our reflection, we can hold space in a much healthier way when a loved one needs us. Sometimes, other persons, pain can trigger our own wounds. When this happens, we meet tragedy with defensive energy and can have a difficult time seeing through our own pain. Becoming so aware of who we are and how we move through the world will go such a long way when our children are trying to figure it out for the first time. We process our emotions through the relationships we cultivate. When we can heal ourselves first, we can become first responders to our children. www.theartofjoy.com Instagram @theartofjoypodcast

The Art of Joy turns ONE this Mothers Day. Last year at this time we had a vision, to have conversations that would bring flickers of light into the shadows that we all face. Some of us can tell really big stories, and others may feel like theirs doesn't make the cut. But here is the truth. We all matter! If you have a life, you have a story and big or small it can change the course of another's journey when you share it. We have uncovered some of the biggest magic, lurking next to the monsters that hide in the dark. Sometimes we need someone to hold our hand as we navigate towards it. We have to thank all of you who support us, listen and share. It's people like you that breathe fresh air with a hint of that summer lilac strait into the core of who we are. Today we dive into a much-requested topic. What is energy medicine, chakras, spiritual healing, and development? We go over the basics and offer insights into the world of energy, vibration, and spirit. We are energy. Our Thoughts and beliefs produce energy. The traumas we suffer affect us physically, emotionally, and energetically. Our spirit can become sick when we don't heal our wounds. "The entire universe is made of energy. If we break down our bodies to the level of the cell, you will discover that we too are made of energy. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that translates to wheel. It is believed that we have 7 primary energy centers in our body each contributing to the health and vitality of all systems that make us human. When these energy centers are out of balance, we can suffer from illness either mental, physical, spiritual, energetic or all at the same time." The Chakra system originated in India between 1500 - 500 BC in the oldest text Called the Vedas.   For a detailed overview of each Chakra, you can subscribe to our newsletter and receive a free copy to your inbox. Chrissy explains trauma A and B and helps us understand when we have been imprinted and can benefit from help. What if you are the person that has more than one interest? It's a common belief that we start hearing about in elementary school. A pressure that says we need to decide what we want to be when we grow up. We spend our childhood education trying to answer that question and go off to college to get a degree in that one thing. Some humans are born with a knowing; they never doubt their passion and can march straight into their career path without ever looking back. But what about those of us who don't know or even find ourselves holding multiple passions or gifts? There can be shame attached to this idea that we may dabble in many endeavors rather than just one. We feel pressure to choose the interest that makes the most money vs. what brings the most joy. If we can step into the confidence of owning who we are as multi-faceted beings, we can begin to make room for the things that light us up! We think it's a gift to have varied interests just as much as we honor those who have always known who they are and what they want to do! In this episode, we dive into conversations about learning to discover who you are and what you were meant to do, how to address trauma, and how we can honor ourselves.  For additional show notes and resources please visit and subscribe to www.theartofjoy.com  @theartofjoypodcast {Instagram} Chrissy Powers  @Chrissyjpowers (Instagram) https://chrissypowers.com http://bit.ly/2IGv3Qn  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/sure-babe-podcast/id1295195863?mt=2
