#237: Marissa Young, Head Coach Duke Softball, visits The Coach Roges Show to preview the upcoming inaugural season for Duke Softball. The Blue Devils will open the 2018 season on Feb. 8th in Boca Raton, Florida. The team will face host Florida Atlantic twice as well as Ohio State, Michigan State and Boston University. They will then head home to host the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Feb. 16-18 playing both Penn State and Purdue twice. ACC play will open for the Blue Devils Mar. 9-11 in Chapel Hill. During ACC play, Duke will host Boston College, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Virginia and travel to Pitt, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech. Prior to coming to Duke, Young spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina. In the spring of 2015, Young helped the Tar Heels to a 37-16 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament after the squad won 24 contests the prior season. #236: Beth Torina, Head Coach LSU Softball, visits The Coach Roges Show to preview the upcoming 2018 season for the Tigers. The spring slate features 37 home contests at Tiger Park in a 56-game schedule, hosting games against 11 teams that were in last year's NCAA tournament field. For the entire schedule, the Tigers will face a total of 22 opponents that appeared in the NCAA tournament field. Coming off three-straight appearances in the Women's College World Series, only one of two teams to claim that feat, LSU returns six positional starters and three pitchers from last year's team that went 48-22 overall and 12-12 in the SEC. The Tigers will host the Tiger Classic, Purple and Gold Challenge, LSU Invitational and the LSU Round Robin. When added with a game against University of Illinois at Chicago on Feb. 8 and the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Feb. 13, the Tigers will play each of their first 11 games at home and 21 of their first 27 in Tiger Park. #234: Kelley Green, Head Coach, Coastal Carolina University, visits The Coach Roges Show to talk about the upcoming season for CCU. This will be the first season for CCU as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Coastal holds a 21-16 overall record versus Sun Belt opponents facing off against four of the nine schools in program history -- Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and South Alabama. Six of those Sun Belt opponents finished the 2016 season among the NCAA Top 100 RPI. The Chanticleers open the 2017 season at home on February 10th hosting its annual Kickin' Chicken Classic (Feb. 10-12) tournament. The field includes Alabama, Towson and Youngstown State. The second weekend, Coastal hosts UNC Greensboro, Rider University and UMKC as part of the Battle at the Beach (Feb. 17-19). #233: Corey Lyon, Head Coach, University Louisiana-Monore, visits The Coach Roges Show to talk about the upcoming season for the Warhawks. We also release our 2017 Position for Position Top 10 SRs. ULM will have 56 regular season games, which includes four non-conference tournaments and nine Sun Belt Conference series. The season will start with three days of games in Monroe February 10-12. The Warhawks will begin their conference schedule in March with their first Sun Belt Conference series against UT Arlington. The other conference teams that the Warhawks will face are Georgia Southern, Texas State, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, Troy, South Alabama, Georgia State and Louisiana-Lafayette for a total of 27 conference games. The team qualified for the Sun Belt tournament the last two years finishing in the semifinals in 2015 and the quarterfinals in 2016. Both of those years, the teams were awarded the Sun Belt Conference Team GPA Award. #230: Michael Lotief, Head Coach, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. For the third consecutive season, and fourth time in the past five seasons, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team will host a NCAA Regional at Lamson Park after being awarded the No. 14 seed in the 2016 NCAA Softball Tournament. The NCAA Lafayette Regional will feature the top-seeded Ragin' Cajuns (43-7), Texas A&M (37-18), Texas (37-14) and Boston University (28-22). After a mostly mild out of conference tournament schedule which slated games against LSU, South Carolina and Michigan State, the Huskies are ready to battle for the American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. Kacy Freeze (6-4) pitched a complete game and gave up just two hits in her second shutout of the season against Missouri State leading OSU to a (4-0) win. The performance was her fifth complete game of the year. OSU was able to win the series against Houston after falling in game1 (9-10) OSU would defeat Houston (12-3) and (7-3). Perry, who is in her first year as head coach of the Fighting Illini currently has the team sitting at (12-7) on the season and has quality wins against Florida State, North Carolina and Tulsa. Illinois next game will be March 15th at 2PM and will be a (DH) against IUPUI as well as the home opener at Eichelberger Field. Tyra Perry was hired as the University of Illinois' second-ever head coach in June, 2015. #208: Kristen Butler, Head Coach, University of Toledo. Starting this Friday, Toledo will play in the JMU Dukes Invitational and will face Robert Morris, Saint Joseph's (2x), host James Madison University and Binghamton. Coach Butler is in her second season at the helm in Toledo. UT recorded higher batting averages, sligging percentages, home runs, stolen bases and other power numbers that landed her team in the Toledo record books. The 2015 squad ranks second all-time in runs (231), RBIs (197) and stolen bases (105), third all-time in home runs (25) and fourth all-time in slugging percentage (.377). Butler came to Toledo after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Charleston Southern, focusing primarily on pitching and catching duties. In her first season with the Bobcats in 2015, Osterman led freshman pitcher Randi Rupp to earning First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as well as being NFCA All-Region selection. Rupp threw her first no-hitter for the Bobcats on March 23 against UL Monroe before quickly following suit with her first perfect game on April 15 against Houston Baptist. This is the first time in history that ISU will take a full spring break trip when they start at Florida and end in Louisville. The Redbirds open Missouri Valley Conference play at Missouri State March 19 and will play their home opener March 30 versus DePaul. #192: Courtney Oliver, Head Coach, East Carolina University, visits TCRS for the first time and for the first show of 2016. Coach Oliver, a five-time NCAA Regional participant as an assistant coach, was appointed head softball coach at East Carolina University in June 2015. Oliver's hiring made her the fifth head coach in ECU softball program history. Under Oliver's tutelage, the 2015 NC State pitching staff owned a team ERA of 2.61 to rank 34th in the nation and second in the ACC. NC State pitchers did their job in the circle fanning 441 batters for second in the conference. Additionally, the Wolfpack struck out 94 batters looking to lead the league. #190: Former UL Ragin Cajun, Pitchers, Jordan Wallace and Christina Hamilton join TCRS. Wallace earned her 90th career win this season when the Ragin Cajuns defeated Baylor in the Regional Final becoming only the fourth pitcher in program history to reach 90 career wins joining Brooke Mitchell (119), Kyla Hall (104) and Ashley Brignac (94). Wallace was also named NFCA First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-SBC this season. Hamilton's best season was 2014 when she led the team to the Women's College World Series. Hamilton also finished being named NFCA Second-Team All-American, NFCA First-Team All-Region and earned the James J. Corbett Award for the top amateur female athlete in the state of Louisiana.
