Do the Richmond Spiders and Russ Huesman have the easiest schedule in the CAA heading into their final year in the Conference? Will Kevin Callahan have the Monmouth Hawks ahead of schedule? How should the North Carolina A&T Aggies look in the 2nd year of the Vincent Brown era? What should we expect from Stony Brook in year one with Billy Cosh? The discussion focuses on postseason competitions and the roles that SIDs play to providing appropriate and timely information to a host media coordinator and the media covering broadcasts – regardless of the division of competition. What are the necessary information pieces and what is the preparation that the media and media hosts need from SIDs to ensure that there is a great broadcast and a great championship event? We see the postseasons preparation needs and role of athletic communicators through the eyes of the media and through a conference media relations host. Checklists for SIDs are also provided; one is a general checklist to prepare for a championship and for a broadcast. The other checklist is pertinent information for small college/NCAA Division III members. Panelists: • Miles McQuiggan, Colonial Athletic Association, Assistant Commissioner for Communications • Leah Secondo, NCAA multi-sports broadcaster and analyst • Steve Vecchione, Northeast Sports Network play-by-play announcer and former ESPN coordinating producer • Moderator: Ali Paquette, Middlebury Assistant AD/Director of Athletic Communications

Joel Justus shares his journey from growing up in North Carolina to becoming one of the most heralded Assistant Coaches in the nation. After growing up around college athletics, Joel went on to play college basketball at UNC Wilmington. He helped the Seahawks capture two Colonial Athletic Association titles, make three postseason appearances (NIT in 2001 and NCAA in 2002 and 2003) and was team captain his senior season in 2003-04. Justus started his college coaching career as an assistant coach at Elon University from 2004-08, where he helped guide the Phoenix to a Northern Division title in 2006 and the Southern Conference championship game in 2008 under Coach Ernie Nestor. Prior to the 2014-15 season he was hired by Kentucky as their Director of Analytics. UK became the first team in college basketball history to start a season 38-0, the following season he was elevated to Special Assistant to the Head Coach for the 2015-16 season. In 2016 he was again elevated - this time to an Assistant Coach. In his first season as an Assistant Coach, Kentucky won both the SEC regular-season and tournament championships while advancing to the Elite Eight. He played a key part in securing what the Recruiting Services Consensus Index calculates as the best recruiting class ever in 2017 and the No. 1 class in 2020. In 2017-18, Coach Justus helped UK win their fourth straight SEC tournament championship. The following season Kentucky advanced to another Elite Eight, Justus helped Kentucky to another Southeastern Conference regular-season title in 2020 and was a key part in what many tabbed as the best recruiting class in the country in 2020. Highlighted as one of the top young assistants in the country, The Athletic tabbed Justus one of the top 40 people in college basketball under 40 and ESPN named him one of the nation's top 40 coaches less than 40 years old in 2020. After seven seasons in Lexington Coach Justus accepted a similar position at Arizona State under Coach Bobby Hurley. This past offseason he returned to his home state as an Assistant Coach at NC State under Coach Kevin Keatts. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/beyondtheboxscore/support

After collecting a string of individual honors in his first season as the starting quarterback at the University of Albany, Middletown High graduate Reese Poffenbarger is this week's guest on The Final Score podcast. Poffenbarger was named this week as the Stats Perform FedEx Ground National Freshman Player of the Week. That follows four consecutive weeks of being named the Rookie of the Week in the Colonial Athletic Association. He chats with host Greg Swatek about squaring these individual honors with the Albany's struggles this season, as the Great Danes are 1-5 overall after a series of very-close, high-scoring games. He also talks about the process of becoming the starting quarterback at Albany after transferring over the summer from Old Dominion University, facing a nationally prominent program like Baylor in his first game as a starter and what his daily routine is like as a Division I college football player. Prior to that, FNP sports writer Alexander Dacy joins Greg to discuss fall sports in Frederick County, as they near the end of the regular season. They look back on Week 7 of the high school football season and look ahead to Week 8.
The college football season has kicked off, and the University at Albany has a tall order in its opener today. The Great Danes are in Waco, Texas to face No. 10 Baylor, the reigning Big 12 champion, before a home game against Colonial Athletic Association foe New Hampshire Sept. 10. Head coach Greg Gattuso is entering his ninth season and is looking to bring UAlbany back to the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2019.
The Villanova Wildcats went 10-3 in 2021, winning the Colonial Athletic Association title and advancing to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs. Expectations are high for the Wildcats here in 2022.
