It's June, which means it's time to get into the 2025 JMU football schedule — and we're doing it with a twist. Inspired by the Ringer Fantasy Football Podcast's schedule draft format, Jack and Bennett each draft games off the Dukes' schedule across five categories: - Home Game You'd Most Want to Attend - Home Game Worth Skipping - Road Game Worth Attending - Must-Watch TV Game - Pumpkin Picking Day (the game you skip altogether to build relationship goodwill before championship season) From the Troy rematch under the lights to a 10 PM kick at San Diego State on the CW, we break down every game worth circling on your calendar — and a few you should hand off entirely. Plus: a deep dive into the state of the Sun Belt Conference, why the league's national profile has slipped since JMU joined, what it would take for the Dukes to crack the College Football Playoff conversation, and whether the Sun Belt can still compete for G5 supremacy against a rising American Athletic Conference. While on a brief visit to see two of our grandsons and a side trip to Arkansas, I had the chance to watch a few exceptional college softball and baseball games along with a very tense Game 7 NBA Western Conference final. It’s time to enjoy the next couple of weeks as the window is quickly closing on the seasons for these three sports. This year’s NBA Finals began Wednesday night. The surprising San Antonio Spurs and streaking New York Knicks began their best-of-seven title series. New York came into Game 1 with an 11-game playoff winning streak. The Knicks left the Spurs’ home arena Wednesday night with a 12-game playoff winning streak. The Women’s College World Series softball best-of three finale also got underway Wednesday night in Oklahoma City. Last weekend, Texas Tech’s never-say-die Red Raiders had to fight back from the brink of elimination twice to defeat #1 seed Alabama just to reach the finals. They will now get a chance to do that once again on Thursday night and, perhaps, on Friday night. That’s because Texas Tech lost to intrastate rival Texas 7-3 in the opening game of the best of three final series. Texas is the defending national champion. On the men’s side of college bats and balls, this week marks the Super Regional round for the NCAA college baseball season. Eight winners from this weekend’s best-of-three weekend series will advance into the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska next week. There were a number of surprising winners and losers during last week’s opening round. New York’s Amazin’ Knicks have now won 12 straight playoff games! San Antonio Spurs 7’4” center Victor Wembanyama is ending his third NBA season. Much like Hall-of-Famer Shaquille O’Neal (who, by the way, played his high school basketball in San Antonio), Wemby just led his team into the NBA Finals. He is now being hailed as the top big man in the NBA. The 5-time NBA champion Spurs are much more than just a one-man show. They utilize their bench as well as any NBA team and play solid defense for the entire 48-minute game. The New York Knicks are seeking their first NBA title since 1973. To say that New York sports fans are hungry for a title is a huge understatement. “The City that Never Sleeps” is in the midst of a rather lengthy championship drought. Eli Manning’s New York Giants football last won a Super Bowl title in 2011. Baseball’s New York Yankees haven’t won the World Series since 2009. The crosstown rival New York Mets haven’t claimed a baseball title since 1986. Broadway Joe Namath was the quarterback for football’s New York Jets in their only Super Bowl victory in 1969. NBA’s New York Knicks came into the playoffs as the #3 Eastern Conference seed behind Detroit and Boston. After losing two of its first three playoff games to Atlanta in Round 1, the Knicks won the final three games to advance. They would sweep #5 seed Philadelphia and #4 Cleveland in eight straight wins to claim the NBA Eastern Conference title. San Antonio is playing in the NBA Finals for the first time since June, 2014. The path to the championship round has been increasingly difficult for the Spurs. San Antonio (the #2 seed in the Western Conference) needed just five games to dispatch the Portland Trailblazers in five games. It then took six games for San Antonio to subdue the Minnesota Timberwolves. Last weekend, the Spurs required a full seven games to win a tense Game 7 battle against the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Wednesday night’s Game 1 in San Antonio was won by the New York Knicks 105-95 in a game which was much closer than the final score reflected. The veteran Knicks scored the last 11 points to end the game. New York stepped-up in the final quarter to score 29 points as the younger Spurs tallied only 19 over the last 12 minutes. New York’s Villanova connection featured guards Jalen Brunson (30 points) and Josh Hart (an incredible 15 rebounds) leading a fourth quarter rally to give the Knicks their 12th consecutive playoff victory. As a result, San Antonio lost its home court advantage after that Game 1 loss. ABC will televise Game #2 at 7:30PM Friday night from San Antonio. The series moves to New York’s Madison Square Garden for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday next week. Make sure to stick around for the post-game coverage on ESPN. The award-winning “Inside the NBA” show features NBA legends Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal breaking down the action along with host Ernie Johnson. You never know what’s going to happen. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma City… The Women’s College World Series best-of-three finals began Wednesday night. Defending national champion Texas (52-12) defeated Texas Tech 7-3 in Game 1. The Red Raiders fell to 61-9 and are on the verge of elimination once again. They have become quite familiar with this position over the past several days in Oklahoma City. The #11 seeded Red Raiders rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday to vanquish #8 national seed UCLA 8-7. On Monday, Texas Tech had to defeat #1 seed Alabama twice to earn a spot in the championship finals. The Red Raiders won the opener 5-4 over Bama by scoring a run in the bottom of the 7th inning. They also grabbed the second game 2-0 on a two-hit pitching gem by two-time college player-of-the-year NiJari Canady to earn a spot in the finals. The second seeded Texas Longhorns didn’t have an easy road into the Women’s College World Series finals, either. They had to defeat #7 Tennessee Volunteers twice on Monday to advance. Texas won the opener 5-2 and then shut-out Tennessee 4-0 later in the afternoon to advance to the championship round. The Longhorns and Red Raiders competed for the Women’s College World Series championship last year as well. Texas Tech is trying to avenge last year’s loss to Texas in the best-of-three title series. Game 2 will be played Thursday at 7PM on ESPN. A deciding Game 3, if necessary, will be played Friday night at 7PM on ESPN. What happened to the top seeds in the men’s college baseball tournament? UCLA had been ranked #1 in college baseball all season long. The Bruins were 51-6 heading into the opening round of the NCAA college baseball playoffs. They faced #4 regional seed St. Mary’s (35-25) in their opening playoff game at home last Friday. The Gaels scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to shock UCLA 3-2. On Saturday, UCLA had to score three times in the bottom of the ninth to take a 6-5 win and stay alive against 30-26 Virginia Tech. St. Mary’s and UCLA were matched again on Sunday. This time, the Gaels scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to end UCLA’s season with a 6-5 win. Ironically, St. Mary’s was eliminated on Sunday 5-2 by the Cal-Poly Mustangs of San Luis Obispo. Go figure. It wasn’t any better for #2 national seed Georgia Tech The 50-10 Yellow Jackets were playing at home in Atlanta and trying to advance into the Super Regional round for the first time in 20 years. Georgia Tech would have hosted a Super Regional this weekend – if only they had won their own opening round regional. The Oklahoma Sooners rallied in consecutive games to dispatch the heavily favored hometown Yellow Jackets to advance into this weekend’s Super Regional to be played in…Kansas? Kansas has rarely been known for its baseball prowess. This year’s baseball Jayhawks are now 45-16 after winning its opening round of games. KU will host Oklahoma Saturday in the Lawrence, Kansas Super Regional. The Jayhawks have made it into only one College World Series (1993) in the school’s long history. Kansas plays baseball in relatively small Hoglund Ballpark. This stadium features just 2,500 permanent seats. The school recently took down the left field wall and installed a chain link fence. That allows about 1,000 additional fans to stand or sit in their own lawn chairs in “The Backyard” to watch Kansas baseball games. Expect ticket prices in Lawrence, Kansas to be sky high for this weekend’s Super Regional. Did you pick the Trojans to make it into the Super Regionals? Last weekend, there were the Trojans from the University of Southern California, the Troy Trojans of the Sun Belt Conference, and the Little Rock Trojans from the Ohio Valley Conference. Incredibly, all three of these Trojans baseball teams will be part of the 16 squads competing in the second round “Super Regional” college playoff games this weekend. At least one Trojans team is guaranteed a spot in Omaha at the College World Series next week. The 36-30 Troy Trojans will host the Little Rock Trojans (39-26) at 4PM Friday on ESPNU. Troy shocked #5 national seed Florida 10-2 in the final game of the Gainesville Regional last week. Little Rock won the Hattiesburg Regional after #9 seed Southern Miss was sent packing after two consecutive losses. The USC Trojans (47-16) will travel across the country to play at the University of North Carolina (48-11-1) on Friday at 2PM CDT on ESPN2. Here are all eight Super Regional match-ups (first game starting times are CDT) Friday’s Opening Games: Morgantown – Cal Poly (39-22) at #16 seed West Virginia (43-15) at 11AM on ESPN2 Chapel Hill – USC (47-16) at #5 North Carolina (48-11-1) at 2PM on ESPN2 Troy – Little Rock (39-26) at Troy (36-30) at 4PM on ESPNU Auburn – Ole Miss (39-21) at #4 Auburn (42-20) at 7PM on ESPN2 Saturday’s Opening Games: Athens – #14 seed Mississippi State (43-17) at #3 Georgia (49-12) at 10AM on ESPN Lawrence – Oklahoma (36-22) at #15 Kansas (45-16) at 1PM on ESPN Austin – #11 Oregon (43-16) at #6 Texas (43-13) at 7PM on ESPN Tuscaloosa – St. John’s (36-24) at #7 Alabama (40-19) at 8PM on ESPN2 The post Enjoy A Week filled with Terrific Games! appeared first on SwampSwamiSports.com.

1 Hour and 35 Minutes With David Nasternak and Alex Drain This Podcast Has a Sponsor: Michigan Law Grad Jonathan Paul is the guy with the C you want skating next to the ref and pleading your case. He's also a good guy to sit next to at the hockey games. Segment 1 There is no need for the NCAA hockey tournament selection show to be drawn out as much as it is. It took 20 minutes to find out anything interesting. It's just hostage-taking for fans just wanting the bracket. What are the pros and cons of neutral site games? Campuses are better atmospheres but at least it's fun to explore host cities if you travel. Hosting the tournament in smaller, less prominent locations makes the tournament feel like the minor leagues. Empty arenas diminish the viewing experience. Anyways, Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament. Some penalties felt controversial and rewarded embellishment. Michigan's depth and skill took over late. Hopefully Hage is okay. There's a perfect satisfaction that comes with beating Ohio State in the championship game more than anyone else. Segment 2 What do the other conference championship games mean for the tournament? Bentley beats out Sacred Heart, Dartmouth beat Princeton, and Merrimack wins a surprising Hockey East title. Discussions of Pierre Maguire's broadcasting quirks. Denver was resilient in not blowing it in double overtime after having a big lead in regulation. Michigan should be a heavy favorite over Bentley but they're better than a typical low seed. Michigan's scoring should be sufficient if they keep out of penalty trouble. Are they more likely to play Minnesota-Duluth in the 2nd round than Penn State? Alex likes Western Michigan over Denver in a regional game in... Denver. Are there enough UConn fans to watch their hockey team play instead of either their men's or women's basketball games? Who is possibly going to come out of Sioux Falls alive? North Dakota hasn't made the Frozen Four in ten years. Michigan plays Friday at 5:30 on ESPNU. The NCAA Division I FCS (smaller college) football teams have just one week remaining in the regular season. This Sunday at 11AM CST, the FCS Playoff Committee will announce the 24 teams which will participate in this year’s playoffs beginning on Friday, November 28. There are three FCS teams which have already locked-up a place in the playoff field by virtue of clinching their conference races last weekend. The remaining 21 places in the field will be determined after this Saturday’s games conclude. Three down and 21 more to go! Congratulations to North Dakota State, Mercer, and Stephen F. Austin for securing the first three invitations to late November’s FCS playoffs. Defending FCS champion North Dakota State is now 11-0 and has a two-game lead in the Big Sky Conference with only one game remaining. Bison head coach Tim Polasek is likely hearing overtures from some of the 11 major colleges seeking a new football coach. Can Coach Polasek and his very talented herd of Bison remain focused, run the table, and close out a perfect season with yet another FCS title? The red-hot 9-1 Mercer Bears of the Southern Conference own a two-game lead over their closest competitor, Western Carolina. Mercer clobbered UT-Chattanooga 63-17 Saturday to wrap-up a spot in the FCS playoffs for the third straight season. The Mercer Bears from Macon, Georgia have won nine games in a row and have tallied 38 or more points in their last eight contests. The coachless Auburn Tigers of the SEC will try to end the Bears’ winning streak this Saturday (1PM on the SEC+ Network) at Jordan-Hare Stadium in eastern Alabama. Surprising Stephen F. Austin disposed of Texas rival Lamar University 26-15 Saturday night to claim its first Southland Conference football title since 2010. The Lumberjacks have sawed through nine straight opponents to move to 9-2 and grab their spot in the upcoming FCS playoffs. SFA finishes on the road Thursday night (6:30PM on ESPN+) to play the struggling 1-10 Northwestern State Demons with the rivalry’s 7-foot wooden trophy called “The Chief” going home with the victor. Let’s review some of the “Win and you’re in” games coming on Saturday Coastal Athletic Association – The 9-2 Rhode Island Rams have never won the regular season title in the CAA. They have a chance to finish with a perfect 8-0 conference record at home this Saturday (11AM CST on ESPN+) with a victory over the struggling 2-9 Hampton Pirates. A win gives the Rams a ticket into the FCS playoffs. An upset loss by Rhode Island would open the door for 9-2 Monmouth and/or 8-2 Villanova to become involved in a complicated tiebreaker to determine the CAA champion. Ivy League – It’s hard to believe, but this is the first season in which the Ivy League champion will be participating in the FCS playoffs. Historically, the Ivy League wanted its student/athletes to concentrate on academics (gasp!) as final exams occur during the FCS playoff season. Boston’s famed Fenway Park baseball stadium will host “The Game” this Saturday (11AM CST on ESPNU) between 9-0 Harvard and 7-2 Yale. This annual football contest was first played in 1875. Saturday’s winner also claims the Ivy League’s first guaranteed spot in the FCS playoffs. Pressure, anyone? Northeast Conference – The Central Connecticut State Blue Devils are 7-4 coming off Saturday’s 38-33 loss to Duquesne in Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils are 5-1 in conference action and control their chances to reach the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2019. A home win on Saturday (11AM CST on ESPN+) against the 5-6 Mercyhurst Lakers will give the NEC title to Central Connecticut. If the Blue Devils lose, a tiebreaker may be needed with Duquesne. Ohio Valley/Big South Alliance – Tennessee Tech’s perfect 10-0 start ended last Saturday after the fast-improving SEC Kentucky Wildcats prevailed 42-10 in Lexington. The Golden Eagles return home to Cookeville on Saturday to face rival UT-Martin (6-5 overall but 6-1 in conference). Saturday’s winner receives an automatic bid into the FCS playoffs. The game also marks Tennessee Tech’s final Ohio Valley Conference football game as the Golden Eagles fly into the Southern Conference next season in 2026. Patriot League – This weekend of big games wouldn’t be complete without the annual game pitting Lehigh (11-0) against Lafayette (8-3). The game called “the Rivalry” has been played since 1884. This year’s “Rivalry #161” takes place on Saturday at 11:30 AM CST (on ESPN+) in Easton, Pennsylvania. Lafayette’s Leopards are at home and will try to ruin the season for the unbeaten Mountain Hawks from nearby Bethlehem. The winner takes home the Patriot League title and its automatic bid into the FCS playoffs. Pioneer Football League – The 7-3 Drake Bulldogs have surrendered only 10 points per game over its last seven games. They are playing exceptional defense! Drake controls its own fate to receive an automatic FCS playoff bid if the Bulldogs are able to take down Morehead State (6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference) on Saturday at 12Noon CST (ESPN+). Presbyterian College is 9-2 and still has a chance to take the top spot if (a) Drake loses and (b) the Blue Hose de-“feet” (ha ha!) Marist (5-6) on Saturday. United Athletic Conference – Abilene Christian’s upset of formerly unbeaten Tarleton State a few weeks ago has provided the Wildcats a one-game lead in the UAC. A win this Saturday by Abilene Christian (now 7-4) at Central Arkansas (3-8) would give ACU the UAC automatic playoff bid. If da’ Bears are able to spring an upset in Conway, Arkansas, Tarleton State (currently 10-1) would win the league title with a home victory over 7-4 Austin Peay. The MEAC and SWAC have their own title on the line in December Winners of two FCS conferences featuring historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) will face-off in Atlanta on December 13 for the annual Celebration Bowl. The victor in this Saturday’s MEAC final regular season game between 8-3 South Carolina State at 8-3 Delaware State will receive an invitation to Atlanta to play in the Celebration Bowl. The SWAC holds its title game between the East Division winner vs. Prairie View A&M (the newly-crowned West Division champ) on Saturday, December 6. That winner receives the other invitation to play in December’s Celebration Bowl. Alabama State’s Hornets (Montgomery, AL) and Jackson State’s Tigers share the SWAC’s East Division lead. Both teams have identical 8-2 overall and 6-1 conference records. Jackson State defeated Alabama State 38-34 earlier this season and may prevail in a tiebreaker. Let’s reveal the latest SwampSwamiSports.com FCS Top 25 rankings for the week ending Saturday, November 15, 2025: The post Drama Galore as FCS Regular Season ends Saturday appeared first on SwampSwamiSports.com.

For the first time since November 3, 1951, Tulsa went into Stillwater and came away with a road win against Oklahoma State. That's the kind of program-changing, culture-building win head coach Tre Lamb has been looking for in his first season. "New Tulsa" might be just be here after all.For the first time ever on the show, we bring in a guest to help us RECAP a Tulsa game! Phillip Slavin from the Ten12 Podcast and Ten12 Network joins us to break it all down. After that, we talk EVEN MORE Tulsa - OSU before welcoming in Jack Chasanoff from The Uptown Update to preview this Saturday's home game vs Tulane at 3:00 central on ESPNU.We close things out by recapping all the other sports happening at TU right now, specifically the sad state of the men's soccer program and the extremely not-sad state of the volleyball program, which is turning into a powerhouse before our eyes under head coach Lauren Ramatowski.
Chris Lee and Blake Lovell break down Kentucky's game with Eastern Michigan, which will be shown on ESPNU at 6:30 Central on Saturday night. Topics include: Is Kentucky a bad football team, or just a quality one that suffers from comparison within a hyper-competitive Southeastern Conference? Kentucky needs to solve its quarterback woes with production from either Zach Calzada (who may be out for the Eastern Michigan game) or Cutter Boley, who played at the end of the Ole Miss loss after Calzada got hurt. The 'Cats have a big-play threat at running back in Nebraska transfer Dante Dowdell. Kentucky's defense is a quality one, led by productive linebacker Alex Afari. Eastern Michigan's defense has been abysmal, allowing 606 yards and 52 points in a loss to Texas State, and 479 yards in a stunning defeat to Long Island (which had two first downs vs. Florida the week before). Quarterback Noah Kim (41-of-63, 437 yards, 3 TD, 0 interceptions) is the player to watch for the Eagles. Send us a textThe road warriors of HBCU Game Day hit multiple states to bring you comprehensive coverage of college football's opening weekend, witnessing everything from NFL legend Michael Vick's coaching debut to nail-biting classics that set the tone for the 2023 season. The most anticipated storyline belonged to Vick at Norfolk State, where approximately 19,000 fans—the largest non-homecoming crowd in years—packed the stadium donning every jersey from his illustrious playing career. The electric atmosphere couldn't translate to on-field success as the Spartans fell 27-7 to Towson. Observers noted Vick seemed to blend into the sideline rather than commanding it, perhaps showing the learning curve from player to head coach. Despite the loss, Norfolk State fans remained optimistic: "It's just the first game, y'all. We're going to be back."Meanwhile, the John Merritt Classic delivered heart-stopping drama as Tennessee State survived North Carolina A&T's late comeback attempt when they blocked a potential game-tying field goal to secure a 24-21 victory. A&T's quarterback change to a redshirt freshman sparked their offense, leading many to believe they'll secure their first Division I win since September 2023 in the coming weeks—perhaps even at homecoming. The Red Tails Classic in Montgomery featured Winston-Salem State and Tuskegee battling before 15,000 fans on ESPNU. Beyond the on-field action, both schools participated in a giving challenge that raised substantial scholarship funds, including one remarkable $100,000 donation to Tuskegee. The SIAC conference claimed a 3-2 advantage over the CIAA in their cross-conference matchups.Looking ahead to Week Two, Virginia State enters as a surprising 3.5-point favorite over Division I Norfolk State in what could be a telling matchup. As one host boldly stated, "If they let little state go on and take over big state...I'll know everything I need to know" about Norfolk State's potential under Vick's leadership.Whether you're planning to attend games or watching from home, download our app for exclusive content, breaking news, and in-depth analysis from the people who are actually in the stands witnessing HBCU football history as it unfolds.Support the show

As the show becomes fully entrenched in the lineup at ESPN, it is heading towards the launching pad that is about to take it to new heights. Before we get there though, the gang continues to struggle with the show just not feeling right. As a last gasp effort to get Dan back in his comfort zone, Mike Ryan makes a call to ESPN executives to take the show off television for two weeks and move back to the smaller studio at The Clevelander. As Mike Ryan says himself, this may have been the move that saved the show. After the break, the show comes out flying what the gang considers to be the golden era of content. Around the time of the studio change, the show is moved into the mid-day slot on ESPN Radio, making it arguably the biggest thing in sports radio at the time. You'll hear from Dan, Stu, Mike, Chris Cote, Old Money Charlie and even former ESPN President, John Skipper, about the show making the transition from Fusion to ESPNU and afternoons to mid days. Then, in line with the golden era of content, get ready for what is far and away the best supercut so far. The Hiring of Dusty May Starts at 1:00 Brian let Seth out of his basement where he works on the UFRs so he's off exploring the world somewhere (France). Michigan hired Dusty May as the 18th head men's basketball coach, and the news was dropped in the middle of a hockey championship game. The rumor was that John Beilein played a big part in getting May. Good job, Warde Manuel! This hire was sniped from Louisville, who thought they could hire him this weekend. Whatever happened to Louisville? Dusty May really turned around Florida Atlantic basketball, which was basically a non-existent program before Dusty. He's had a great track record everywhere he's been. Dusty May is able to keep his players, even after a Final Four run. 2. Basketball - Looking Forward to Next Year Starts at 29:58 What makes Dusty May appealing as a coach? He seems to be really well liked. His teams shoot a lot of 3s and they shoot them pretty well. There are a lot of Beilein parallels. Who comes back? Who do you try and get? Johnell Davis is his star and has a year remaining. Bryan Greenlee and Vladislav Goldin are the other two starters who could come over as grad transfers. Does Dusty bring over his coaching staff and do you retain any of the coaching staff from an 8-24 team? Who do you want to keep from last season's roster? We're completely happy with the hire but there isn't a statistic that pops out consistently every year (except defensive assist rate). Expectations for next year are very low, fill a roster with guys you can build a program from. He's going to have to hit the portal pretty hard. 3. Football Bits Starts at 1:07:05 Wink Martindale's contract makes him the highest paid defensive coordinator in college football. When's the last time you saw a long-term NFL coordinator jump back to college? Greg Scruggs has resigned and the guy to keep an eye on now is Terrance Jamison from Illinois. DJ Waller and Jyaire Hill are the two names that popped up during Sherrone Moore's press conference as looking impressive so far. It might be Jack Tuttle as the spring front runner at QB until someone comes in and takes it. Don't take too much stock into his Indiana career. Michigan has lost good receivers over the last three recruiting cycles, they need to get some more guys. Will Michigan pass more under Sherrone Moore? Probably not. Cam Goode was not on scholarship, he was on NIL all last season. The era of scholarship limits is over! 4. NCAA Hockey Tournament Starts at 1:31:49 Michigan hockey is a #3 seed and gets to play in an empty stadium in Maryland Heights, Missouri! They get North Dakota in the first game and are in an overall manageable draw. North Dakota's goalie seems like a guy. Michigan loses in OT to Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship game and Michigan State's game-tying goal might be the worst call we've ever seen. Michigan had a waved off goal that was also questionable. We've seen Michigan State many times, we're ok with drawing them as the #1 seed. When can we see the end of the tournament format of playing in empty neutral sites? The game is Friday at 8:30 on ESPNU.
