The Brantford Bulldogs have been the darlings of OHL pundits since the season began, so it would be sacrilege to suggest they're lucky to be leading their Eastern Conference Final with Barrie, right? Well, leave it to the dummies on this podcast to commit heresy. Meantime, in the West, a couple of one-goal games started the series between Kitchener and Windsor, but it was the overtime winner in Game One that got people buzzing. Farwell and Dan do a deep dive into both series' so far before taking a look at the General Manager of the Year award and the list of Red Tilson finalists. Who's your pick for Most Outstanding Player this past season? Feel free to email us (ohlpodcast-at-rogers.com) because the guys are responding to your emails this week too, talking about trading first round draft picks and finding more nice things to say about Niagara. A quick note from Farwell to start this episode: "I don't think I'm alone in saying that the 'Eastern Swing' through Kingston, Ottawa, and Peterborough for a Western Conference team is one of the most enjoyable trips we take every year, so allow me to reminisce for a moment as we start this week's show. It involves cheesecake. 'Nuff said." With that out of the way, the guys also talk about the OHL talent that was on display at this year's Olympics and they speculate about the possibility of this year's Red Tilson Trophy winner (Most Outstanding Player) and Max Kaminsky Trophy winner (Most Outstanding Defenceman) coming from the same team. That's only happened three times in league history. Could this season be the fourth? Plus, you'll get your weekly Wraparound through every market in the league, a look at OHL Onside, a deep dive into The OHL Podcast mailbag (email us, we'll answer! ohlpodcast@rogers.com), and our Prospects of the Week. It isn't quite the best Stagg Bowl of all time, but surely there's nobody in River Falls, Wisconsin, who cares about that as UW-River Falls brought Walnut and Bronze home to the town of 16,000 on Monday after a 24-14 win against North Central in Stagg Bowl LII. Kaleb Blaha, with 419 yards of total offense, and three total touchdowns responsible for, with one final NCAA record to his name, was a deserving Most Outstanding Player of the Stagg Bowl, and you could make a case for a number of defensive players as well, as many made big plays throughout the night and down the stretch to ensure that the Falcons would fly home with the trophy. After the game, Patrick Coleman, Greg Thomas and postseason regular Keith McMillan sat down to discuss the big game, perhaps crack open a beverage, hand out game balls, hear the highlights, point out the interesting stats and give their big picture perspective on the big game and on the 2025 season. What was the good, what was the bad, and sure, what was the ugly of 2025? That and more in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast. The D3football.com Around the Nation podcast is a weekly conversation about NCAA Division III football, and has been running since 2007.

This week, we're thrilled to welcome a true legend of grit and perseverance — former NFL quarterback Dan Pastorini ("Taking Flak: Life In The Fast Lane"). Born and raised in the Bay Area, Pastorini made his mark early at Bellarmine College Prep before starring at nearby Santa Clara University, where he etched his name into the school's record books and shined as the Most Outstanding Player of the 1971 East-West Shrine Game. Drafted third overall by the Houston Oilers during the famed "Year of the Quarterback" in 1971, Pastorini became a symbol of toughness and innovation — famously pioneering the use of the flak jacket to play through brutal injuries. During his nine seasons with the Oilers, Pastorini led the team through the beloved "Luv Ya Blue" era under coach Bum Phillips, playing alongside greats like Earl Campbell and Elvin Bethea. His leadership helped fuel dramatic playoff victories and brought Houston to the brink of Super Bowl glory in both 1978 and 1979. It's a revealing conversation, which includes Pastorini thoughts about: His upbringing, early sports dreams, and why he chose football over a potential MLB career after being drafted by the New York Mets. Life in the NFL trenches: the hits he took, the historic games he played, and the deep bond he formed with the city of Houston. The controversial 1979 AFC Championship loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers — and the call that still sparks debate. His transition to Top Fuel drag racing, where he broke barriers once again by winning major NHRA events and clocking speeds over 270 mph, AND His passion for giving back through the Be An Angel Foundation and reflections on a life lived at full throttle. From quarterback to drag racer, businessman to philanthropist, Dan Pastorini's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and heart. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE 417 Helmets (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://417helmets.com/?wpam_id=3 GRILL LIKE A PRO: Dan Pastorini's Texas Style BBQ Rubs & Spices: https://dpqualityfoods.com/ GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS: Be An Angel Fund: https://beanangel.org/ FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/

Author/biographer Debbie Sorensen (Beyond the Jump Shot: The Elevated Life of Kenny Sailors) delves into the story of basketball pioneer Kenny Sailors (1921–2016), one of the most unheralded influencers in both the collegiate and pro game. Widely credited with popularizing the modern-day jump shot, Sailors first stunned audiences in the early 1940s when he elevated mid-air to shoot over taller defenders - a revolutionary move in an era dominated by set shots. His innovation not only expanded offensive possibilities but also became a fundamental skill in basketball at all levels. As a standout player for the University of Wyoming, Sailors led his team to the NCAA Championship in 1943, earning Most Outstanding Player honors. His game-changing jump shot helped transform basketball into the fast-paced, dynamic sport we recognize today. After serving in World War II, Sailors had a successful professional career in the ascendant Basketball Association of America (BAA) - most notably with the Cleveland Rebels and Providence Steamrollers - as well as in the first two years of the NBA (the original NBL-absorbed Denver Nuggets, and BAA-originated Boston Celtics & Baltimore Bullets). Beyond his contributions on the court, Sailors was an advocate for youth sports and the importance of education, spending decades mentoring young athletes. His legacy is celebrated not only for his role in evolving the sport but also for his character and sportsmanship. Inducted into the National Collegiate Hall of Fame in 2012, Kenny Sailors remains a towering figure in basketball history - though, criminally, still not in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "Beyond the Jump Shot: The Elevated Life of Kenny Sailors" (2024): https://amzn.to/3Vko1ob STREAM THE DOCUMENTARY (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "Jump Shot: The Kenny Sailors Story" (2022): https://amzn.to/40TFtmO FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Blue Sky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable

Temple and CFL Hall of Famer Henry Burris joined us on The Scoop this week to share memories from his career on North Broad Street as a record-setting quarterback out of Spiro, Oklahoma. Burris, who recently returned to his alma mater back in May to serve as the Klein College of Media and Communication's commencement speaker at the Liacouras Center, also established himself as a television personality in Canada on CTV Morning Live and TSN and said he used his Temple education to feel comfortable being on camera as a host and analyst. On the field, Burris passed for 7,495 yards and 49 touchdowns against some great competition in the Big East from 1993 to 1996 and earned his way into the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent and saw stints with the Green Bay Packers, where he backed up Brett Favre and Doug Pederson. The relationship he forged with Pederson allowed him to land a spot on his Jacksonville Jaguars staff in 2022 as an offensive quality control coach. This season, he'll be the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Florida A&M. In the CFL, Burris became a three-time Grey Cup champion, a two-time Grey Cup MVP and a two-time recipient of the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award -- and it all started with a tryout that had Burris throwing to guys off the street wearing slacks and Stacy Adams dress shoes. Burris shared that story and many more on this week's podcast, which also includes some football and basketball recruiting updates and information on how you can vote in the OwlScoop Summertime Madness food bracket championship between Richie's and Maxi's.

We have the game plan. Missouri AG Andrew Bailey wins in court again with a ruling to stop Biden from forgiving student loans. Congresswoman Sharice Davids is targeted on X by a poster with over 3 million followers. What Davids did should be the entire focus of this year's campaign.
