SWO22 | Brody Holloway | Saturday NightHow can we finish the Christian faith strong? In 2 Timothy 4, we read Paul's last words in Scripture. Paul was facing death by execution and he still kept the faith until the end. Paul fought faithfully. Being faithful produces and drives consistency. Let's be aware of what we're fighting against. Pagan ideology, legalism, false teaching, comfort, etc. We're called to be aware of these things and fight against them with Scripture. Our spiritual lives depend on the Word of God. This is a preview of Key Battles of American History hosted by James Early, a podcast in Parthenon Podcasts. As late as the 1860s, Japan was a semi-feudal nation, largely cut off from the rest of the world. But within a few decades, the nation had transformed itself into a major industrial power with one of the world's most well-trained, well-equipped, and well-led militaries. Between 1905 and 1941, Japan defeated Russia, gained several former German colonies in the Pacific, seized Manchuria, and invaded and conquered much of coastal China. How did Japan accomplish all this? In this episode, James and Scott explain Japan's meteoric rise to world power status.Listen to the rest of the episode at https://www.spreaker.com/user/10740198/the-rise-of-imperial-japan-with-ads_2Learn more about Key Battles of American History and subscribe at:https://www.parthenonpodcast.com/key-battles-of-american-history/https://www.spreaker.com/show/key-battles-of-american-history

Secrets and lies get exposed as we peek behind the mask to find our "Equilibrium"!Author Alex White joins the show this week to discuss an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that gives us a brief but intriguing look at the Trill homeworld. When Dax begins experiencing troubling visions, she returns to Trill for medical help. When her condition becomes grave, it's up to Sisko and Bashir to fight through a web of lies to expose a dark truth about Trill and to save Jadzia's life! The concept behind the Trill--a benevolent race of intelligent slug-like creatures and the humanoid civilization that provides for them--is one of sci-fi most creative and fertile premises. However, the privilege, wealth, longevity, and political power that near-eternal life would afford means that Trill society must accept a rigid class structure to maintain its equilibrium, a structure that stands at odd with the egalitarianism that the Federation was founded to promote. On this episode, we discuss the fleeting glimpses we get of Trill in the franchise, how the audience's perception of Dax has evolved over time, making the rules of your universe clear, the generational impact of violence and abuse, re-lensing old stories, and why it's important that people and children especially have the opportunity to see themselves in fiction. We also discuss insurance in the Alien universe, Eternal Space '80s, the speed of plot, the best DS9 episode based on a magic act, getting cheated out of a circus, symbiotes as a commodity, "wormy hot tub time", getting the most out of your immortal, "nice vampires", capitalist critique, "a taste of the creature", using Outlook in the future, John Carpenter, good and bad bosses, and a Rear Admiral Grace Hopper name-drop!This episode is dedicated to the memory of Lisa Banes.Follow Alex on Twitter and visit their website!https://twitter.com/alexwhitebookshttp://www.alexrwhite.comPre-order Alex's DS9 book and check out their other work!DS9- Revenanthttps://amzn.to/3vSUmCThttps://www.amazon.com/Alex-White/e/B01FK0VLLQ?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2&qid=1624477012&sr=1-2Learn the story behind your favorite Trek episodes with BackTrekking!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkingJoin with us on Facebook and Twitter and the Just Enough Trope Discord!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodhttps://discord.gg/ATMBeUDBuy us a new symbiote on Patreon and Ko-Fi!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodhttps://ko-fi.com/E1E01M2UASubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

No matter what stage of life you’re at you have the opportunity and responsibility to pour into others. Spencer gives 4 practical tips on how to study God’s Word. Getting older doesn’t mean you’re automatically getting more mature. Growth is a process through the Holy Spirit. Winter SWO | Rob Conti | John 3 The darkness of sin lives in us and apart from Christ, we will die from our sins. There is no amount of good works that will save you. Our only hope is to fully believe and trust in Jesus. The gospel of John was written so that we could know and see that Jesus is God and we can have life in Him. Our sin demands death. The curse of sin is removed in Jesus. In John, we see Jesus handing Himself over to be crucified. He gave Himself up knowing everything that would happen to Him. Jesus alone would bear the weight of our sin. He who knew no sin, would become sin for you. For the joy of saving you, He crushed Satan and provided perfect righteousness for us. The Son of Man had to be lifted up so that people could see Jesus more clearly. Jesus is the Lamb of God and what He has to offer us is eternally better. He made you and He loves you. Don’t ignore the light. ResourcesJohn 8John 3John 12John 19Hebrews 12:1-2Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/P.S. AstrologyThe idea we can extract divine knowledge from the cosmos based on the positions of the sun, moon, stars to inform us about human personalities, traits and possibly our own fate.Reasons it is frowned uponCommon reason it is frowned upon within our faith is due to it being considered divination and God forbids divination.Divination: The ability to uncover secret or hidden spiritual truths to do things like predict the future or make prophetic proclamations.Purpose of the cosmosTo better understand the concern of astrology we need to first understand the purposes behind God's creation.Genesis 1:14–1814 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.PurposesGiving light to the earth during the day and nightHelp determine the seasonsHelp determine the days to discern timeAct as signs which are used for navigating the earthGod never defines the cosmos as a means to better understand Him, ourselves, creation or what He is doing.Bible's Stance on DivinationJeremiah 10:2Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them -Jeremiah 14:14And the Lord said to me: “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds -Ezekial 12:2424 For there shall be no more any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel. -Deuteronomy 18:1010 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer Deuteronomy 18:1414 for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.FatalismBelief in astrology lends itself to a kind of fatalistic worldview. This means that events can be predetermined simply by the orientation or position of celestial objects; as well personality traits. This robs God of His glory because it is God that holds the entire universe in His hands. He has the supernatural ability to alter the cosmos or life in general at any point in time regardless of what is fixed.Job 9:77 who commands the sun, and it does not rise; who seals up the stars;Psalm 8:33 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,Ps 136:99 the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures foreverJeremiah 31:35Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name:We should not be seeking His creation, but rather Him. By seeking Him it guards us from wandering away from Him or robbing Him of His glory.Accuracy does not matterSimply because something seems accurate that doesn't mean it is good, Godly or ok.It's not that divination is false, but rather it is of the demonic and can lead us away from Him.Book of Acts (Girl with the spirit of divination)Acts 16:16-1816 As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” 18 And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour. -This spirit, or demon, knew enough about what was happening on earth to predict certain things, which was making the slave girls master's lots of money. The issue isn't accuracy. The issue isn't divination is never right; the issue is divination is demonic and leads people away from God because God no longer becomes the object of worship or the arbiter of discernment and truth. To financially support | https://ko-fi.com/upnorthkingdomEmail truth@upnorthkingdom.com | Follow on Twitter | Subscribe on YouTube | Follow on Instagram See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In our last episode, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the Nerdapalooza festival, the first iteration of which happened in 2007 - but we only told one side of the story. This time around, we're talking to Rob Tobias, the main coordinator of Nerdapalooza 2007 in Florida, as well as Magitek, a Florida hip hop group that performed at said event. Their combined tales help paint a much fuller picture of those happenings-ten-years-time-ago. Plus, we've brought along some tasty jams! Please note: The views and history recounted by Rob Tobias and the member of Magitek are their opinions and recollections alone. They do not reflect the views of The Nerdy Show Network, Marc With A C, or the opinions of others involved in the production of Nerdapalooza.
