Welcome back to the Independent Filmmaker's Guide. In today's episode we dive right into one of the later challenges along the filmmaking journey - getting your film in front of your potential audience. How to actually break through with ratings and reviews in key places. The landscape is always changing and tomorrow it may be different. In the meantime, these particular algorithms on streaming platforms hold a lot of sway as to what movies actually get "shelf space" in their store. With this in mind, we here at IFG share the great news that our indie horror film HERD (Steven Pierce, James Allerdyce, Matt Mundy) is now released in the US and in an increasing number of other territories around the world. But in order to take advantage of all of this potential exposure we ask our listeners directly for their support. As we often do with podcasts but rarely seem to do in film, we talk about the importance of not just watching indie films but rating and reviewing them as well.In that, we also tackle the pivotal role of indie filmmakers in shaping a vibrant film industry, especially in light of recent strikes against the AMPTP. More so, we extend an invitation to you - yes, you, our treasured listeners - to join this journey. By watching, rating, and reviewing HERD, you're not simply showing support; you're helping independent films prove their worth in a sea of studio-backed blockbusters. And in this digital era, your ratings and reviews directly impact a film's positioning and success. And a special shoutout to the wonderful people of Poplar Bluff, Missouri - as well as Doniphan and Van Buren...your support and graciousness to our cast and crew are at the center of what made shooting this film possible.Links mentioned in the show:to follow the herd, and see more information about the movie, visit HERD.filmWatch/Stream on AppleTV or PrimeUK DVD reviewUK DVD purchaseRate/Review on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDbIFG is created by Framework Productions, produced and hosted by Steven Pierce, James Allerdyce, and Matt Mundy. Mary Williams describes the career of Dr. Cecilia Payne, the first person to describe the composition of stars back in the 1920s. Payne's controversial results were criticized at first, so her career in astrophysics stalled. Eventually however, her conclusions were found to be correct, and her discovery seen as groundbreaking. She finally received the recognition she deserved in the 1940s and 1950s. Next, Amanda Fuller interviews Morghan McCool (University of Louisville) about McCool's research on the diversity of mosses that grow around the entrances to caves. Finally, J Scott Miller describes what we can see in the night sky during the month of September. ‘Bench Talk: The Week in Science' is a weekly radio program that airs on WFMP Louisville FORward Radio 106.5 FM (forwardradio.org) every Monday at 7:30 pm, Tuesday at 11:30 am, and Wednesday at 7:30 am. HAPPY HOUR FLIX is a podcast all about the movies you love and love to talk about. A nostalgic look at what we grew up watching and how they still impact us today. What is it about that fuzzy...or rather furry, past laying eyes on sweet, dangerous Gizmo for the first time? Join us on this nostalgia trip as we rewind to the iconic 80s classic movie, Gremlins. Our special guest Amanda Fuller, a self-proclaimed Gizmo defender, takes us back to her childhood experience of watching this movie for the first time - at a drive-in no less! And of course, from our friends over at MISGUIDED SPIRITS, a unique concoction whipped up by Chadwick Sutton, the Gizmo Sour. Follow along and be sure to make one yourself!2oz  MISGUIDED whiskey.75oz fresh lime juice.5oz simple syrup ...or even maple syrup!that's it - now shake and strain or dirty pour into rocks glass (either way is fine)Garnish:2 dashes angostura bitters on topBut oops, you just got it wet...and so the trouble begins!Hey all, a quick reminder, no matter where you are listening to us, if you could rate us and drop us a review on Apple Podcasts, we'd be so grateful - it really helps us spread the good vibes. Thank you!Now back to the episode...we dive into the age old question of: is Gremlins is actually a horror film or a comedy? And yes, we wade into deep, deep waters. We dissect the characters, iconic scenes, and the history of the term 'gremlin'. We analyze the movie's intentional stylization, the villainous Mrs. Deagle, and the dubious logic of Hoyt Axton.  We delve into the potential connections to Little Shop of Horrors, the dark themes, and even a possible metaphor for living in New York City. And then there's Kate's emotional monologue about her father's death. And wait, there is a fountain in a candy shop??!!  And as always, some bonus trivia about Spielberg's cameo and Judge Reinhold's character. So, mix a Gizmo Sour, sit back, pop some popcorn...maybe not in that order... and join us for this lively chat about Gremlins.HAPPY HOUR FLIX is produced by James Allerdyce and Lori Kay, and hosted by Steven Pierce and Matt Mundy.Main Title is by Johnny Mineo.Happy Hour Flix | Movies You Love

The last episode for October features Corey's (@coreyrstarr) pick Starry Eyes (2014). The film is directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer and stars Alex Essoe, Amanda Fuller, and Noah Segan. Jonathan (@berkreviews) hadn't seen this one either and both found some positive elements about it. However, the body horror was a bit much for both making it hard to really watch at times. Still, they didn't regret this pick so listen to the episode to hear their detailed reviews. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support
