Arguably the biggest hindrance to advancing Biblically aligned policy in Alaska has been the relentless willingness of a few Republican State Senators and House members to give power to the Democrats in exchange for leadership positions. Two of those legislators, Senator Gary Stevens and Representative Louise Stutes, both from Kodiak, have been leading that charge for a long time. It's been a tiring mantra. Elect Republican majorities. Democrats are put in authority. We now have a legitimate moment to change this trajectory.Gary Stevens is retiring and Louise Stutes is leaving the House to run for his Senate seat. Because she's been giving power to the Democrats just like he has, Stevens has endorsed her.But Stutes has a challenger. And he is gaining traction.Heath Smith, a former Homer City Council member, life long Alaskan and astute observer of what's wrong with our "bi-partisan" ineffective legislative caucuses, is on the show today. Senate District C includes Seward, Homer, Cordova, Ninilchik, Anchor Point and Kodiak among other communities but the implications of this critical Senate race have long term statewide implications.Hope you can join in on our conversation.Support the show
In this episode of Reimagine Childhood, brought to you by the Early Childhood Christian Network, host Monica Healer talks with Debbie Simmons, founder and CEO of Anchor Point, about why so many early educators feel overwhelmed and how to build resilience without defaulting to control, hustle, or silence. Debbie explains that pressure reveals where our trust systems "leak," and encourages educators to view burnout and anxiety as data points for needed shifts in rhythms, relationships, and honest conversations. She challenges listeners to be brave, speak up, and first be honest with God about fear and lack of trust, noting that internal stress can impact health. Debbie offers practical tools for daily life: start the day centered with God, surrender your schedule, breathe to regain clarity, and focus on the "next best step." 00:00 Reimagine Childhood Intro 00:50 Why It Feels Heavy 08:33 Silence And Hard Talks 18:25 When You Cannot Give 100 23:46 Summer Conference Preview 26:23 Honest Trust Conversations 30:11 Daily Practices to Trust 41:28 Legacy and Closing Prayer Find more great info about Debbie Simmons and all that she brings to the table on her website at https://thedebbiesimmons.com/ Or on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thedebbiesimmons/
Trent and Tyler catch up after a busy spring of bear hunting, including a week in Idaho with Mountain Ops featuring hounds, where four bears were taken but the guest only saw one and didn't shoot; they discuss surprising appreciation for dog hunting, bear overpopulation near home, and how terrain and low bear density can make spot-and-stalk unappealing. The guest recounts a dangerous incident where hounds tried to cross a raging Salmon River fork, leading him to rescue a nearly drowning dog and recover others via an old miners' cable bridge. The conversation shifts to outdoor media: audience metrics favor constant action, YouTube has become crowded, and live hunting "camps" are growing, often funded by attendee fees with sponsors providing product. They argue in-person events may be "future-proof" amid AI, note AI's risks without critical thinking, and describe an AI-driven product scam involving a knockoff Anchor Point bow holder. They also discuss hiring, execution vs ideas, and scaling a founder-led hunting brand.

Trust is the currency of the retreat industry. Guests invest their time, money, and emotional energy into retreat experiences expecting transformation, connection, and professionalism. But often, trust doesn't break in big dramatic moments - it slowly leaks through small gaps in leadership, communication, and delivery. In this episode, Shannon sits down with Debbie Simmons to discuss the five most common "trust leaks" in retreat businesses and how retreat leaders can repair them before they damage reviews, referrals, and long-term loyalty. They break down where trust most often breaks down - from marketing promises to post-retreat follow-up - and how retreat leaders can strengthen their businesses with clearer communication, better boundaries, and stronger operational standards. If you want your retreat guests to return, refer others, and rave about their experience, this episode will help you protect the most valuable asset in your business: trust. Key Takeaways The five most common places trust breaks down in retreat businesses How marketing promises can accidentally set retreat leaders up for failure Why unclear boundaries create confusion and resentment The operational gaps that quietly damage guest experiences The importance of post-retreat follow-up for long-term loyalty About Debbie: Debbie Simmons is a keynote speaker, author, leadership strategist, and CEO of Anchor Point, known as The Legacy Architect who guides high-capacity leaders from success into significance and lives of lasting impact. Through her proprietary framework, The Obedience Engine, Debbie equips executives and entrepreneurs to align identity, leadership, and decision-making so clarity and momentum replace pressure and burnout. She is the author of The Heart of Legacy and the creator of the Vision Day experience, a private leadership environment where leaders reset their trajectory and architect their next chapter. When Success Feels Heavy: The Architecture of Trust That HoldsGuest: Debbie Simmons, Legacy Architect, Keynote Speaker and Bestselling Author Host: Julie RigaWhat is your life really built on, and will it hold when pressure hits? In this powerful episode, Julie sits down with Debbie Simmons, founder of the multimillion-dollar nonprofit Anchor Point and creator of the Architecture of Trust. Debbie shares how she turned a breaking point into a blueprint, why hustle and control eventually crack, and how high-capacity leaders can rebuild on a foundation that truly holds. When Success Feels Heavy: The Architecture of Trust That HoldsAbout This EpisodeJulie sits down with Debbie Simmons, a legacy architect, keynote speaker, bestselling author, and founder of Anchor Point, a multimillion-dollar nonprofit based in Houston, Texas. Debbie created the Architecture of Trust to help high-capacity leaders rebuild their foundations when success starts to feel heavy. After walking through profound loss and leadership pressure, she turned her breaking point into a blueprint and today equips CEOs and founders to lead with trust that holds, not hustle that burns out.About Debbie SimmonsDebbie is the founder of Anchor Point, a multimillion-dollar nonprofit giving families hope for over 15 years through medical care, case management, a maternity home, therapeutic camps, and recovery ministry. She is the bestselling author of The Heart of Legacy and creator of the Success to Significance seminar, which helps purpose-driven leaders move from external achievement to internal alignment and lasting impact.Fun Fact: Debbie's favorite food is cheesecake, plain with a good graham cracker crust. As she says, "it's not my friend!"The Three Ingredients for Trust-Based Leadership Success1. Know What You Are Trusting Stop and honestly identify the default patterns you reach for under pressure. For most entrepreneurs and executives, it is hustle, control, silence, urgency, or self-reliance. Debbie's core principle: if you can name it, you can tame it. Reflect on what you actually did the last time the pressure hit and you will discover what your foundation is truly built on.2. Be Brave Enough to Shift Courage and fear feel identical. The only difference is that the courageous person acts anyway. Once you identify the pattern, make your best plan, take the leap, and tweak as you go. Leadership growth is a journey of iteration, humility, and intentional living that rewards those who stay the course.3. Invite Accountability and Build Community Name the pattern you are working on and share it with a trusted coach, mentor, spouse, or friend. Growth accelerates in community and stalls in isolation. When someone safe can call you back to your values and your vision, transformation happens faster. This is self-leadership in action.Key Takeaways for LeadersThe systems that got you here will not take you to your next levelTrust is structural, not emotional. Build systems and teams that hold even when you are not at 100%Moving from success to significance requires inner alignment, not just outward achievementCourage is a daily choice. Do it, tweak it, and do it againMemorable Quotes"What is your life really built on, and will it hold when pressure hits?""The things that got you here will not take you to your next level.""If you can name it, you can tame it.""The difference between courageous and fearful is that the courageous person does it anyway."Connect with Debbie SimmonsWebsite: www.thedebbiesimmons.comSuccess to Significance Seminar: www.successandsignificance.netFree Book Download: www.theheartoflegacy.comConnect with Julie RigaWebsite: julieriga.com/leadCoaching: Learn more about leadership coaching#StayOnCourse #LeadershipMindset #PurposeDrivenLeadership #LegacyBuilding #AuthenticGrowth
Send a textGrief can stop you in your tracks—or it can become the ground where purpose takes root. We welcome Debbie Simmons, a “legacy architect” whose life moved from devastating loss to intentional impact, as she shares how she traded the unanswerable why for the empowering how and designed a life that serves families for generations.Debbie tells the story of losing her quadruplets at 26 weeks and the two questions that reshaped everything: how do I survive, and later, how do I thrive. That shift led to adopting nine children from sibling groups and learning trauma-informed parenting the hard, human way. She explains why a child in crisis isn't the problem but is having a problem, and how our calm presence becomes the medicine that nervous systems seek. Along the way, we talk about the unsung kindness that holds families together—meals on the porch, an hour of respite, and a foster family who prepared kids to trust new parents on day one.We also dig into leadership. As founder and CEO of Anchor Point, Debbie builds a culture where extreme grace meets clear accountability. Assumptions are challenged, curiosity leads hard conversations, and the default posture is we are for each other. She walks us through Anchor Point's ecosystem—medical clinic support for unexpected pregnancy, case management, parenting education, a maternity home for homeless moms, and therapeutic camps for adoptive families—showing how practical tools and stable relationships lift the tide of parenting across a community. If you're navigating loss, adoption, team dynamics, or the desire to build something that lasts, this conversation offers a blueprint: lead yourself first, ask better questions, accept help, and keep taking the next best step.
