Bill, are you seeing any differences in typical presentations from the neck up (e.g. c-spine, jaw, palate) in people with an inhalation bias vs exhalation bias? If squat is an expansion pattern and deadlift is a compressive pattern, does that mean someone with a narrow infrasternal angle would generally be better at a squat since they have more space to expand into, or would they generally be better at a deadlift since they are already in an exhaled/compressed position. Can you expand a bit more on what is going on in the suitcase carry you posted on your recent video? This week's guest is a special one for me. Andy McCloy is a Strength Coach, owner of Body Creations Inc in Alabama, Educational Speaker and Mentor. Andy is in fact my Mentor and he's somebody I owe a great deal to, having impacted my life considerably, both personally and professionally, the past Year. In this episode Andy discusses: - His personal back story and how at a young age he found himself on the wrong path in the pursuit of significance. - How becoming a Father as a Teenager impacted his life and taught him the work ethic to provide for his family. - The importance of resiliency, showing up and doing the work each day, how they will help you over-come adversity and how resiliency is different for each and every one of us. - Why finding your deep-rooted purpose is so important and how you can leave a lasting impact on those you serve and become a "Local Legend". We finish off the episode by discussing the importance of "putting your own oxygen mask on first" and the impact this approach has had on the pair of us and why we prioritise the 4 Key areas of the Body, Relationships, Spirituality and Business. Andy is a hidden gem in this industry. Not only is he a highly respected Coach and Business owner, he's a great man too who impacts the lives of those he meets and continues to give back more to this World than he's taken.
“It’s not like I’m a culture expert, I never set out to develop a cool culture. It just kind of organically happened. Where we have some of the best kids in the world, but we will put them in the same group as kids who are not even close to the same type of athlete as they are, and even in their school they’re not as social intertwined with all the cool stuff going on. I think there’s a unique dynamic there where those kids are able to socially level up. The kids that are studs are put in a position where they have to coach and mentor younger people, it’s just a really cool thing.” Today we are joined by BCI Sport Performance and Fitness owner Andy McCloy to talk about the world of training, After a brief introduction Andy starts discussing the role of his facility in the training and development of young athletes, and how their culture has helped develop these kids in ways that have nothing to do with sports training. We then start talking about the role of the private market trainers and where they fit in this world of athlete development in conjunction with the athletes teams staff. This includes ways he has reached out to open up those coaches and develop those relationships. This includes him breaking down how the time of the year and other training/responsibilities with other teams drives decisions to help bridge what they’re doing with what the athlete has going on with other programs and practices. Then, for the second half of the discussion Andy shares with us how he sets up his programming. This includes everything from how they find kids who fit in their program, evaluate their athletes, how those evals dictate progressions and regressions, exercise selection, and how they can easily make daily alterations. Have you gone through hardships in your life and feel like you won't be able to achieve your dreams because of them? In this episode I sit down with my friend Andy McCloy, who — like me — has had to overcome a tough and "colorful" past to get where he is now. Andy fought through adversity to build one of the most successful sports performance businesses in the south, and in this episode we discuss how. We talk about everything from growing up and getting into trouble, the catalyst that lead Andy to make a change, and how fitness and youth sports inspired him to build his business – while mentoring kids in their early teens all the way up to pro ranks. Andy's philosophy will give you a lot of insight into the success of his programs and the blueprint to succeed in any career. IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN: What lured Andy to a life of crime and the catalyst that made him realize things have to change The secret lesson that is responsible for success in some people and failure in others The book that shifted Andy's mindset and planted the seed that he could become whoever he wanted to be A secret to success that most personal development programs miss - you master this and you have a tool that will help you overcome the hardest of times How your environment's trigger your behavior much more than you think, and the step-by-step process to shift what you do fast A new way to present your business, the "BCI wheel" and how you can implement it into any fitness business (especially those geared to youth sports performance) How to influence parents that you are the right coach for their kids based on more than just the X's and O's of training The 8 spokes that create a super athlete – mind, body and soul The reason Andy is not big on "sport-specific" training when it comes to youth, and why it's something they don't focus on much at BCI The astonishing way to make better decisions in your business The 5 C's of building any great career or business — whether it be a gym or anything else — and the bonus "C" I add at the end that you must master whether you like it or not LINKS AND RESOURCES: BCI - Body Creations Book: Awaken The Giant Within (Tony Robbins) Book: The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Thanks so much for joining me this week.
