Hasbro is UNLOADING a bunch of its memorabilia ahead of the possible (and very likely) relocation to Boston. Then we talk about the utter state of Dungeons & Dragons and the disrespect being shown to co-creator Gary Gygax by the rightsholders. Hasbro is facing significant backlash and financial troubles due to mismanagement of its franchises, particularly Dungeons & Dragons, leading to a shift towards digital content and the liquidation of memorabilia. 00:00 Hasbro is liquidating memorabilia and shifting focus to digital content amid backlash against Wizards of the Coast and ongoing shareholder lawsuits. 02:05 Hasbro is liquidating memorabilia and relocating its headquarters amid backlash over Dungeons & Dragons while collectors bid on a major Power Rangers auction. 04:10 Hasbro's mismanagement of franchises like Power Rangers, Transformers, and Star Wars has led to outsourcing, poor sales, and clearance pricing on products. 06:39 Hasbro's acquisition of numerous toy brands has led to a decline in their iconic IPs, leaving collectors dissatisfied and questioning the future of beloved franchises. 07:50 Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast faces backlash over Dungeons & Dragons' new licensing fees, revocation of content creation rights, and a shift to a subscription model amid ongoing controversies. 10:43 Hasbro's handling of Dungeons and Dragons has sparked outrage for disrespecting its origins while pushing a progressive agenda in the 50th Anniversary Book. 12:18 Hasbro's acquisition of Wizards of the Coast has resulted in poor decisions and controversy surrounding Dungeons and Dragons, overshadowing its original focus on Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon. 14:12 Hasbro is facing financial troubles and is likely to sell off its properties, raising concerns about the future of beloved franchises.
Over more than half a century as a writer for the London Daily Express and the Times of London, British-born Ivor Davis covered major stories in North America. He penned a weekly entertainment column for the New York Times Syndicate for over 15 years, interviewing some of the biggest names in show business, from Cary Grant to Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton to Tom Cruise and Muhammad Ali. In 1962 he was smuggled onto the campus of the riot-torn University of Mississippi when James Meredith became the first black student to be enrolled --accompanied by 127 --yes 127-- US attorneys--Days of rioting followed with two killed--including one foreign journalist. Three years later Davis was in the front lines as Los Angeles' Watts riots erupted. In l964, Davis was the only British daily newspaper correspondent to cover The Beatles' first American tour from start to finish, given unparalleled access to John, Paul, George and Ringo on the road, in their hotel, and during long nights of card and Monopoly games as they talked frankly about their bizarre new life. He also ghosted a regular newspaper column for George Harrison. His first-hand, insider's memoir, the award-winning The Beatles and Me On Tour, 60th Anniversary Book, was published in February. It is a fascinating journey back in time where for the first time he chronicles, frankly and humorously, 34 days with the world's most famous band on the road—at a critical moment in the history of rock. The anniversary edition was published on Feb 9th this year. Davis covered Robert Kennedy's 1968 presidential bid and was in the kitchen in the Ambassador Hotel the night Senator Kennedy was assassinated. He was one of the Boys on the Bus chronicling the life of actor-turned-politician Ronald Reagan, first in his campaign for governor of California, then for president. He was a co-author of the 1969 political book Divided They Stand, which chronicled the Presidential election; and witnessed some of the biggest trials in American history: Sirhan Sirhan, convicted of killing Bobby Kennedy in 1969; black-power militant Angela Davis, acquitted of murder in l972; a year later, Daniel Ellsberg's trial for leaking the Pentagon Papers, and, in 1976, he was in San Francisco to see heiress Patty Hearst convicted of robbery after being kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army. His new true crime book, “The Devil in My Friend: The Inside Story of a Malibu Murder.” It is an account of the famous Eighties trial of Malibu engineer Frederick George Roehler, who was convicted of the murder of his wife and young stepson after an almost year-long trial in the Santa Barbara Courthouse in May l982. The killings took place close by—at Santa Cruz Island. The new book will be published this year on May 7th. https://ivordavisbooks.com/ Connect more: https://www.chonacas.com/podcast/ https://www.instagram.com/shesallovertheplacepodcast/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/katiechonacas/ I hope you enjoyed the episode, please share with one person! Hi everyone! Two years already, can you believe it? To celebrate this, Jordanne from the 'Books To Last' Podcast and I put together a very cool episode for you where we compare different book covers from around the world! If you want to follow along with us, here is the link to the presentation that we are referencing: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ugEwX83KWB3XZ5Kf86RQyo0bpd7R_d4XrHl4bOMk6mc/edit?usp=sharing You will find the main slides with the grey header and also additional context on the slides in between (I did not hide them in the end because I don't think you would have been able to see them then). Come check out Jordanne over on all her channels: https://jordannedunn.carrd.co And take a look at her latest episode about her very first book panel: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3TpsW8C6UGjFr4EMT1EpEF For everyone who is interested, this is the article I mentioned about the cover design of 'Three Dark Crowns': https://www.epicreads.com/blog/three-dark-crowns-cover-design/ Editing this episode I have to admit I caved and bought the first book in the Taiwanese version. I don't entertain the prospect of ever being able to read it, but a girl can dream and look at the cover while doing so ;) And while you are merrily being entertained by book covers, do yourself a favour and search for all of the Harry Potter Thailand editions, each installment is just a masterpiece in itself. I hope you have just as much fun with this episode as Jordanne and I had :) My Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/childofthelibrary My StoryGraph: https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/child_of_the_library_podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/childofthelibrary/ Email: childofthelibrary@gmail.com

A wonderful book with rare commentary from a reclusive author. As you know, Calvin and Hobbes was a Trojan horse comic strip, written by a pastor to get kids interested in the teachings of John Calvin. . . It was 50 years ago that three days of peace and music changed the world forever. A new book, Woodstock 50th Anniversary – Back to Yasgur’s Farm from Krause Publications, captures the spirit with a front row seat account of the happenings with author Mike Greenblatt, who was there and lived to tell about it. Greenblatt also tracks down many of the artists who played the festival, as well as some of the behind the scenes folks that made it all possible. 224 pages featuring over 300 photographs, it’s great way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a half a million strong. Greenblatt talks about what led him to getting there early to the festival, some of the crazy stories of seeing his favorite bands, and also interviewing Graham Nash, one of the artists he missed (he left early, as did many others).
Book'em began in 1989 when four women (Lee Fairbend, Karen Estevez-Gill, Georgeanne Chapman, and Ruth Ann Harnisch) united to find opportunities to assist Reading Is FUNdamental Nashville in meeting its needs for books and volunteers. Books were collected and distributed through the Christmas Clearing Bureau (CCB). The organization grew through the years distributing tens of thousands of books each year and adding a reading program in pre-schools, Ready for Reading, which is still offered today. Book'em merged with Reading is FUNdamental, the oldest literacy group in the Nashville area, in 2006. Today, Book'em administers the RIF program in ten Title I Metro elementary schools. Each year Book'em sponsors Read Me Day, a special celebration of reading in one of the RIF schools its serves, to raise awareness of the importance of providing literary services to Nashville children. • Reading volunteers for our Reading Is Fundamental and Ready for Reading programs for the upcoming school year • Book drives for our Books for Nashville's Kids program (new and like-new books for youth ages 0-18) • 30th Anniversary - Book'em was founded in 1989. We have several events coming up to celebrate - TN Brew Works is donating $1 to Book'em for each beer purchased on Sundays in August; our annual breakfast celebration is scheduled for October 2.
