I am going to talk about my stock pick of the week today during my podcast while I cover the financial implications for the NFL star who started a horrible fight at a Youth football game that led to someone being killed. “Witnesses claim a former NFL star started the fight that ended with a deadly shooting at a youth football game in southern Dallas County. According to TMZ Sports, an opposing coach said that Aqib Talib ran across the field and confronted referees Saturday in Lancaster. That coach and other witnesses said the game was called off because of the constant complaining and threats. When that happened, Aqib reportedly swung at Coach Mike Hickmon and the two began fighting. Two video clips obtained by TMZ show the confrontation between the coaches. Aqib is said to be the person wearing all black with a black hat and white shoes.” This is an important discussion of how wealth and choices are deeply connected. For the first time since the deadly shooting of youth football coach Mike Hickmon, we hear directly from the witnesses on the field during the tragedy. Dragon Elite Academy Coaches Kerrie Lewis, Mark West, and Heith Mayes share the details of what began as an argument with game officials that turned deadly. They believe the tragedy was completely preventable, and the blame for sparking the events that led to the shooting lays solely on one man: former NFL star Aqib Talib. “Aqib incited the whole uproar,” Dragon Elite coach Kerry Lewis tells Jason. “The game would've never been stopped had Aqib not come over to our sideline to yell at the refs.” "Fearless" is the only place where you will hear the story of how a pee-wee game turned violent and left Aqib's brother Yakub Talib in jail on murder charges. This tragedy highlights two issues: the epidemic of black-on-black crime and the proliferation of adult misconduct in youth sports. "Fearless" contributors T.J. Moe and Steve Kim join the show to discuss the newest details in the case. We want to hear from the Fearless Army!! Lindsay talks with Former NFL shutdown Cornerback, now Podcaster (Catchin' Fades and Call To The Booth) and Broadcaster, Aqib Talib about the cornerbacks in the draft and how finding that elite cornerback in today's NFL is very difficult. They also discuss the hot shot wide receivers of the draft. Then, Aqib makes a very compelling argument for the 49ers drafting Mac Jones over Justin Fields.
Michael Robinson and Brian Billick welcome 5-time Pro Bowl and Super Bowl Champion cornerback Aqib Talib to the podcast. MRob dives right in asking about that Super Bowl 50 squad (1:50), and Aqib says the secret to the Broncos 2015 success was extreme camaraderie in the locker room. How does Aqib approach his transition to the broadcast booth (3:50)? He attacks it the same way he attacked the game when he played and watches plenty of tape. Talib's answer to dealing with negative feedback? Pay attention to the positive feedback…because there's more of it (5:02). Coach asks Aqib about his podcast but before he answers, MRob has to know what's up with that name, “Catchin' Fades” (5:35). Who were the players that inspired Talib as a kid (7:15)? He tells MRob and Coach and doesn't stop at being a kid… there were contemporaries inspiring him when he was a top shutdown corner in the League (8:10). Speaking of shutdown corners, Coach asks if they still exist (8:55), and Aqib's answer enlightens all on the changing position and he lays down his top list of current corners. Do corners ever regret telling a coach they want to follow the top receiver? Yes (11:50), and Talib's admission of anxiety on the field blows MRob's mind (12:40). Aqib's opinion on what went down for Jared Goff in LA might surprise you (13:40). Free Agency advice, Talib sounds off on players making the right and wrong decisions (18:24), and speculates about the potential free agent comings and goings with the Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (20:45). Hint: Talk to Tom Brady if you want to go to Tampa. NFL Total Access: The Locker Room is part of the NFL Podcasts Network.
