Victory Temple Chantilly's Podcast

How to forgive."Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." Eph 4:32 NKJVIn 1982, John Hinckley Jr. attempted to take the life of President Ronald Reagan by shooting him with a handgun. Reagan's daughter, Patti, later recounted what she learned from her father when he was in hospital: "My father said he knew his physical healing was directly dependent on his ability to forgive John Hinckley...It showed me that forgiveness is the key to everything...He gave me an example of Christ-like thinking." Sometimes the wounds that others inflict on us are unintentional, and other times they are deliberate. But in both cases the Scriptures give us a clear standard concerning the wrongs we experience.  You are to forgive those who hurt you, "even as God in Christ forgave you." That's a high standard, but it's one that brings healing for our deepest wounds. Sometimes we dispense forgiveness like a soft drink from a vending machine— mechanically, and with no feelings attached. But the Bible says two attitudes should accompany forgiveness: kindness, which is expressed in our actions, and tenderheartedness, which is expressed in our attitudes. Why? Because that's the way God forgives us. Throughout Scripture we find emotions or characteristics such as kindness, gentleness, compassion, and tenderness-in word or by action-ascribed to God. We also find examples of it in the lives of those God used to fulfill His plans and purposes. Joseph was one of them, when he forgave his brothers who betrayed him. And He calls on us to do the same. This kind of forgiveness is as much an act of the heart as it is an act of the will. How to forgive Forgive those who hurt you. The director of a new documentary "Hinckley: I Shot The President", Neil McGregor is the guest. In March 1981, inspired by a dangerous obsession with the film "Taxi Driver" and actress Jodie Foster, a man named John Hinckley tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. The attack shocked the world and forever changed American history. Found not guilty by reason of insanity, Hinckley spent thirty-five years in a psychiatric hospital. Nearly 40 years later, a judge granted him his unconditional release. "Hinckley: I Shot The President" presents an unsparing profile of a man whose shocking act of political violence forever changed a nation and still resonates today. It examines Hinckley's troubled early life, his obsessions and other attempts at assassination, the lead-up and aftermath of his attack on Reagan, and whether or not redemption is possible for one of America's most infamous men, especially in a nation deeply divided by politics and gripped by gun violence. In the recent episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer discussed the near-assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump by a 20-year-old. The conversation centered around the individual's background, the psychological and logistical aspects of the attempt, and the broader implications for domestic terrorism. Jennifer highlighted the suspect's profile as a recent high school graduate who had been bullied, possibly suffering from undiagnosed mental health issues. She likened him to John Hinckley, emphasizing his desire for notoriety due to being marginalized. Tony and Jennifer discussed the absurdity of such an extreme action by someone so young, pointing out that historically, lone wolves have posed significant threats, such as Timothy McVeigh in the Oklahoma City bombing. Jennifer stressed the increasing danger of domestic terrorism from seemingly obscure individuals. She noted that the suspect had no strong political affiliations, suggesting his motive was more about targeting a high-profile individual rather than political ideology. The suspect had access to the necessary resources, including a rifle and a vehicle, which facilitated his plan. A critical part of the discussion was the failure of security protocols. The suspect managed to position himself on top of a police command center, an area within the outer perimeter managed by local law enforcement. Jennifer criticized the apparent lapse in the advance planning and execution of security measures, noting that the highest points with line of sight should have been secured. She highlighted the importance of following detailed operational plans, which seemed to be lacking or poorly executed in this case. ### Main Points - The suspect was a 20-year-old bullied high school graduate with potential mental health issues. - He sought notoriety, similar to John Hinckley. - Domestic terrorism by lone wolves is a significant threat. - The suspect had no strong political leanings and targeted Trump for his high profile. - He had access to the resources needed for the attempt. - Security protocols failed, allowing the suspect to gain a strategic position. - Advance planning and execution of security measures were criticized as inadequate. #Hashtags #HiddenKillers #TonyBrueski #JenniferCoffindaffer #DonaldTrump #DomesticTerrorism #SecurityFailure #LoneWolfTerrorism Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Show Notes Episode 444: “Ron, John and Jodie” This week Host Dave Bledsoe asks the bartender “You talking to me, are YOU talking to me?” when they ask him to pay for his drinks. (The bartender replied that he must be since he didn't see any other deadbeat drunks around there.) On the show this week we head back to 1981 when John Hinckley Jr had his shot at greatness and missed. (A very fine line is being walked) Along the way we discover why Dave is the sad lonely old man he is today. (He is afraid of girls!) Then we dive right into the events of March 30th 1981 when Organized Labor saved Ronald Reagan's life. (And STILL he fired those air traffic controllers!) We might John Warnock Hinckley Jr, a rich kid living the rich kid life in the mid 1970's. But then his life took a turn toward darkness (not becoming a stock broker, which is how most rich kids turned to darkness back then.) Follow along as John watches a movie and takes the entirely wrong message and then barks a wrong try by trying to woo a young  Jodie Foster. (She was gay THEN John!) Finally we talk about his trial and how it changed very, very little.  Our Sponsor this week is Boyd's Body Armor, because somebody probably wants to shoot you. We open with NBC Nightly News and close with J. Fla who wants you to not miss your shot. Uncharted: Crime and mayhem in the music industry

How many times have you or heard someone say “i'm obsessed with [whatever]”…you're trying to say that there's something of which you can't get enough…it could be anything from a flavour of ice cream to a reality TV show…it's usually just hyperbole and exaggeration… But if we get clinical, obsession can be a form of mental illness…we open up the psychology textbooks, we learn that a true obsession is a recurring thought about something or someone…it's always on a person's mind, maybe even 24/7…we're talking thoughts, dreams, urges, and fantasies… These obsessions, this rabid focus, may be intrusive, unwelcome, all-consuming, and dangerous…a person may end up surrendering themselves to these thoughts, driven to focus on the object of the obsession full-time… Take the case of John Hinckley, jr…he was from a wealthy Texas family who owned an oil company…but john didn't fit in…he tried going to university but eventually dropped out…he moved to California with dreams of being a songwriter…that didn't work…when he returned to Texas, he had to confess that the girlfriend he said he had out west didn't exist… Hinckley disappeared into himself with severe emotional issues…antidepressants and tranquilizers were prescribed…but he also started buying guns and target shooting…and he spent a lot of time watching the 1976 Martin Scorsese film, “Taxi Driver”…if you know the film, you'll know that Robert De Niro plays Travis Bickle, a disturbed loner who plots to kill a presidential candidate…he runs across a 12-year-old prostitute named Iris steesmas, played by Jody Foster… Hinckley became obsessed with Foster…when she enrolled at Yale, Hinckley moved to Connecticut to stalk her…he left her poems and love letters, and called whenever he could find her number…Hinckley became determined to attract her attention…how?...he thought about hijacking a plane…maybe he'd just show up one day and shoot himself in front of her… Finally, he determined the best way was to assassinate a president, just like Travis Bickle…he trailed Jimmy Carter for a while but was arrested…more psychiatric treatment followed…and then Ronald Reagan was elected… On March 30, 1981, Hinckley pulled out a 22-calibre pistol and fired it six times as Reagan left the Hilton Hotel in Washington after addressing a conference…Reagan survived, but it was touch-and-go…others were hurt, too… After a trial, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity….he was finally released from custody in 2022… The world of music has many obsessives, although few as extreme as Hinckley…there is one standout, though: a young loner in Florida who, like Hinckley, was determined to attract the attention of his love…in the process, he turned into a murderous hater… I'm Alan Cross, and have I got a story for you…this is uncharted: crime and mayhem in the music industry episode 8…the tale of the Bjork acid bomber… Show contact info: X (formerly Twitter): @AlanCross Website: curiouscast.ca Email: Alan@alancross.ca Learn more about your ad choices. Over 30% of episodes are exclusively available to patrons of the show. https://www.patreon.com/posts/157-five-corners-96799903 The music and film writer and editor Kieran Grant joins us to discuss the 1987 comedy/drama Five Corners, a cult film we love that has been hard to see properly for many years. The first American production from George Harrison's HandMade Films, Five Corners featured two actors on the brink of stardom (Tim Robbins and John Turturro) and one on the brink of superstardom (Jodie Foster, in one of her first screen roles after John Hinckley tried to impress her by shooting President Reagan). It was released hot on the heels of Moonstruck, the film that won the playwright John Patrick Shanley a screenplay Oscar, but this one was not as much of a crowd-pleaser. Audiences were divided over the film's tone, starting off as an oddball slice-of-life comedy about intersecting characters in a Bronx neighbourhood in 1964 but then suddenly taking an unexpected lurch into horror/thriller territory. Kieran I discuss first seeing Five Corners as teens, the thrill of seeing successful tone shifts in movies, why it vanished into obscurity for a time after HandMade Films closed shop, and how the themes (and cast) of this movie must have been an influence on Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing 2 years later. Five Corners is currently streaming on Tubi and on Criterion Channel. Trailer for Five Corners (Tony Bill, 1987)
