Welcome to the Halloween 2024 Edition of Todd & Preston's Drive-Time Chats. This episode starts with Preston's review of "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." Preston then continues with reviews of the following streaming movies: - A recent remake of "Salem's Lot" - "VHS Beyond" - "I Watched the TV Glow" Todd then talks about movies he's recently seen in abridged form, via reaction videos on YouTube: - "Alien vs. Predator" - "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem" - "Alien Romulus" - "Army of Darkness" (which the Geeks did a full review of in episode #167) - "Blade" And, the talk of vampires in "Blade" let to a tangent about the very short-lived 1990s vampire TV show "Kindred: The Embraced" and how it was loosely based on the "Vampire: The Masquerade" role playing game, which Preston has played. The Geeks then did reviews of the following TV shows: - "Agatha All Along" on Disney+ - "Grotesquerie" on FX And, while not related to Halloween, the Geeks went on tangents about the movie "Children of Men," the Mariah Carey song "All I Want For Christmas Is You," election season, and political related movies. Steering back to Halloween, the Geeks talked about candy and the recent paranormal investigation videos from the Red Letter Media YouTube channel. Halloween is almost here! What better movies then than a spread of Spooky Season flicks from the funny and surreal to the creepy and the unnerving.
In this spooky episode, we return to the wacky, supernatural world of Beetlejuice with Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel. Join us as we discuss Beetlejuice 2, which brings back Michael Keaton as the mischievous poltergeist and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, while introducing Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter. We'll dive into the film's mix of nostalgia and new elements, exploring whether Burton's signature blend of dark comedy and gothic flair holds up. Is Keaton's Beetlejuice as iconic as ever, or does the sequel fail to recapture the magic of the original? We break down the performances, the storyline, and the fresh spin on a classic, asking the big question: Was this sequel worth it? Don't miss this deep dive into the afterlife! You don't build a bond without being present. That quote from James Earl Jones seemed like the best way to start this because he was present throughout all of our lives. #Beetlejuice #BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice #MichaelKeaton #WinonaRyder So here we are 20+ years later getting a sequel to a movie that for all intents didn't feel like it left itself open to do a franchise. Like yeah the OG movie got a cartoon series but that was to be expected. This movie overall is fine and does the job of getting in and out with its straightforward plot. Everyone in this film came to have fun and Keaton is at the forefront of it playing Beetlejuice and its like he never left. Add on William Defoe stealing the film at time and you got a film thats a good time.
