... also sehr alte Musik.
Parinda Berchtold's story is one of passion, persistence, and a deep connection to the natural world. Born and raised in the small town of Yala, Thailand, Parinda always dreamed of something more. As a young girl, she envisioned herself living in far-off places, where the trees changed color and the ground was covered in snow. Little did she know, those dreams would eventually lead her to the United States, where she would redefine the concept of wellness through the healing power of the sea. From an early age, Parinda had a natural inclination to help others. She spent much of her time in Thailand volunteering in remote villages, building schools, and giving back to her community. This love for service continued as she moved to the United States, initially studying to become a nurse. But as much as she admired the healthcare profession, Parinda felt a pull toward something different. She wanted to create something of her own, something that could merge her love for wellness with her desire to make a meaningful impact on people's lives. The turning point came when Parinda was introduced to network marketing. Though she was initially hesitant, viewing it as just another sales job, something about the wellness products resonated with her. This was especially true when she discovered the unique properties of Dead Sea products, known for their healing and rejuvenating effects. As Parinda began to explore these products, she realized they offered something more than just skincare—they embodied a philosophy of wellness rooted in nature."The sea has a property of healing," Parinda explains. "When you soak in the sea, you feel the difference. It's not just a superficial change; it's something deeper." This belief in the sea's healing powers is what inspired her to dive headfirst into the wellness industry, combining the ancient traditions of Thai massage with the therapeutic properties of Dead Sea salt and mud.Parinda's wellness business is built on the idea that true healing comes from within. She emphasizes the importance of experiencing the products firsthand, rather than simply relying on marketing promises. "You can say a million things, but if you don't experience it, it doesn't mean much," she says. For Parinda, the journey to wellness is personal, and she encourages her clients to explore what works best for their unique needs. One of the standout aspects of Parinda's approach is her commitment to quality. Working closely with experts like Professor Hasni, who has a deep understanding of the properties of sea water, Parinda has developed products that are not only effective but also tailored to the specific needs of different markets. "You have to know the environment first," she notes. "It's not just about bringing something from one place and selling it in another. You have to understand what will work best for each region."Parinda's products are designed to be more than just skincare—they are a holistic approach to wellness. Whether it's the Dead Sea salt that helps soothe aches and pains or the mud masks that rejuvenate the skin, each product is crafted with care and a deep understanding of the healing process. Parinda also integrates these products into traditional Thai massage techniques, creating a powerful combination that enhances the body's natural ability to heal. For those looking to experience Parinda's products, she recommends starting with a visit to a spa that specializes in Thai massage and Dead Sea treatments. "It's about more than just using the product," she explains. "It's about how you use it and the techniques that go along with it." By combining the best of both worlds—ancient Thai wisdom and modern wellness products—Parinda offers her clients a truly unique experience.Parinda's journey from a small town in Thailand to becoming a leader in the wellness industry is a testament to her dedication and belief in the healing power of nature. Throughout our lives we're constantly taught about 'stranger danger', but what if the person you should be most afraid of, isn't actually a stranger? 12-year-old Jan Broberg was abducted from her small town of Pocatello, Idaho in 1974 but a family friend, someone the Broberg's trusted. Jan was taken to Mexico, returned, and then kidnapped again almost two years later. Her story has quite a few twists and turns, and it's almost too crazy to believe. First when she was 12, and again when she was 14.She was abducted twice because after the first time, Jan's parents signed affidavits stating they'd given Berchtold consent to take Jan away with him, which was a lie.Although we may think we have come a long way from the culture that played a part in this horrifying story, when it comes to childhood sexual assault, the statistics haven't changed. Some audio from this episode has been taken from "A Friend of the Family", a new True Crime series coming exclusively to 7plus on October 25, 2023.If you have been affected by anything discussed in this episode you can contact: Lifeline on 13 11 14 13 YARN on 13 92 76 (24/7 crisis support phone line for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)CREDITS:Hosted and created by Meshel LaurieExecutive Producer: Matthew TankardGET IN TOUCH:Follow the show on Instagram @australiantruecrimepodcast and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/AustralianTrueCrimePod/Email the show at team@smartfella.com.auSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/australiantruecrime.

As a parent of a child facing a medical challenge, it can be tempting to try to put on as many hats as possible: mom/dad, caregiver, nurse, and sometimes even a medical expert. We often hear doctors ask patients not to Google a diagnosis, but seeking out as much information as possible in the face of a challenge can feel like regaining some control. However, the problem is that carrying all this information can take parents away from their primary role of just being parents. That's why Family-Centered Care, an approach that aims to help parents feel supported and empowered throughout their family's medical journey, is so important. I'm delighted to introduce you to Jenny Berchtold. Jenny is a certified Child Life Specialist with a master's degree in Child Development and a specialization in infancy. Jenny has worked in the NICU but has since taken her passion to the Erikson Institute, a graduate school in child development, and is doing what she loves most. She is preparing the next generation of Child Life Specialists to advocate for kids in the NICU and amplify their voices when they don't have one. But her experience doesn't end there: Jenny's youngest son, Evan, faced his own challenge with the discovery of a “dot” on his cheek, which proved to be an extremely rare and aggressive tumor. Thankfully, it has since been successfully surgically removed and is being carefully monitored. She knows firsthand the challenges of balancing your child's medical needs with “just” being present as a parent. Jenny shares her best advice with us: find a medical team that you trust wholeheartedly so you can let go of some “control” and always know that the medical teams and hospital staff are there to help you so that you can be present for your kiddo. Her advice is empowering, and I hope you find as much guidance and comfort in her words as I did today. Key Takeaways with Jenny Berchtold What Family-Centered Care is and why Jenny is so passionate about it. Understanding that the medical teams are only a small part of a family's life journey and that they're only there to help make a positive impact. How it's okay to let go of some control and trust your child's medical team. When hospital staff ask parents how they're doing, they're actually hoping for and expecting an honest answer as they only want to help. How much better it is for parents to prepare to ask the right questions instead of researching everything on their own. How removing the word “just” from those little requests that we all make everyday can make a huge difference. The importance of letting go of guilt as a parent when you feel like you can't do it all and that it's okay to ask for help. Robert Berchtold was a middle aged man who infiltrated and groomed an entire family in order to kidnap their eldest daughter… TWICE! He manipulated and blackmailed Jan Broburg's parents to the point where they basically agreed to let him kidnap and sexually abuse her for a period of 2 years! This is a mental mash up of child abduction, sexual abuse and a manipulation story where aliens get involved! http://podbelly.com http://retrovague.com http://robotsforeyespodcast.com

In this episode we're picking up where we left off - Jan had just arrived back in the United States after her rescue by Mexican authorities back in Mazatlan, but that's just the beginning of the story. In this episode we discuss the aftermath of the last abduction, and talk about how Berchtold managed to kidnap Jan again in 1976. Yup, that's right. Berchtold kidnapped her not once, but twice. That ALL Might Be Edified: Discussions on Servant Leadership
Captain Thomas Berchtold references Stephen Covey's idea of investing in people's emotional bank account and provides several examples about how he focuses on the people on his team to build a strong servant leader minded community. He points out that it is far better to postpone important conversations with people until you can give them your full attention or risk missing the mark and even creating an atmosphere of distrust. He shares a time when he failed as a leader because he wasn't being authentic and uses it to emphasize the need for each person to be true to themselves and use their strengths in their leadership opportunities. He looks for chances to help others along their path and provide them with recommendations that will help advance their journey and highlights the importance of having open and honest conversations early and often. Captain Thomas E. Berchtold hails from Brigham City, Utah and attended Utah State University. He was commissioned as an Ensign, United States Navy through the Health Professions Scholarship Program and he attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he graduated magna cum laude and earned his D.D.S. After graduation from dental school he attended an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in Jacksonville, Florida. After being in Florida 1 year, he was transferred to Port Hueneme, CA to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three (Seabees) for a tour as Dental Department Head. The battalion had a six-month deployment to Guam during this time where he successfully led the dental department with multiple battalion detachments being all over the world from the main body of personnel. Upon completing his tour with the Seabees, he was transferred to Naval Medical Center San Diego. While in San Diego, his main duty was the division officer for the dental department at the Naval Submarine Base at Point Loma. He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics for three years of advanced training. There he served as the Chief Resident for the Department during his last year of residency. He received a Masters Degree in Clinical Dentistry as well as a Certificate in Orthodontics. After residency, CAPT Berchtold was stationed at 13 area dental clinic at Naval Dental Center Camp Pendleton (NDC CPEN). He set up the inaugural orthodontic practice at Camp Pendleton and served as the orthodontic department head. He was then assigned to Naval Base San Diego Branch Health Clinic. He was chosen as the assistant department head at Naval Base San Diego Branch Health and Dental Clinic. His next orders were at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton where he was selected and served as the Director of Dental Services and served on the board of directors for the hospital until his transfer to Naval Hospital Yokosuka. At Naval Hospital Yokosuka, he was appointed as Associate Director for Dental Services, the Dental Corp Career Development Board manager as well as working as a staff orthodontist. He received his board certification from the American Board of Orthodontics during this time. From Japan, he was stationed at the Naval Medical Readiness Command San Diego as a member of the craniofacial team for the hospital and worked as an orthodontist to supplement the surgical treatment of patients for the oral surgery residency program. Dr. Berchtold has been married to Julie Berchtold for 25 years and has four children. Miranda, Jentry, Tate and Riley. His oldest is married and will attend graduate school this summer and his youngest is still in elementary school. He enjoys road bicycling, golfing, swimming, fitness, and eating good food and a little well known fact is that he has completed 5 half iron man triathlons and 3 marathons.
