Blake Bolden is a true trailblazer. After being an NCAA All-American at Boston College,Bolden has gone on to be the 1st Black player drafted in the 1st round of the CWHL, the 1st Black player to compete in the NWHL, NWHL Isobel Cup winner, only the 2nd woman to be an NHL scout and the 1st Black woman in the position.

Blake, who was the number one out of 40 influential people on the Athletic's 40 under 40 in the NHL last summer talks with Craig about her journey in hockey. Blake shares stories of starting to learn to skate late, how she developed her skills, how she never gave up despite abuse pointed in her direction by hockey parents and fellow players and how ultimately she became a role model for young black girls interested in hockey. In addition to being a pro scout for the Kings, Blake is also the LA Kings Growth and Inclusion Specialist and talks about her first meeting with Luc Robitaille, her admiration for Willie O'Ree and her desire to win multiple Stanley Cups with the Kings. Blake Bolden is one of the coolest people I have ever met, who has accomplished many amazing things. She was a captain on Boston College's Division 1 Women's Ice Hockey team and was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team Hockey East All-Star her senior year. She was the first black hockey player taken in the first round of the CWHL as well as the first to play in the NWHL, and in February 2020, she became the first black female NHL scout. On the ninth episode of the show, Jaclyn Hawkins sat down with Blake Bolden, a scout with the Los Angeles Kings. Among many achievements in her life(such as being the first black woman to become an NHL scout and the first black player in the NWHL to name a few), Blake also played in the PWHPA, CWHL and even for HC Lugano in Switzerland. She was recently featured on the cover of USA Hockey Magazine. Bolden reflects on finding her love for the game through a family member, playing as mostly the only girl on her teams, and being the only black player on many teams until her senior year at Boston College. She talks about diversity and inclusion in the game and what needs to change. Throughout the conversation, Blake opens up about the various community efforts the LA Kings organization is doing and her involvement. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, Blake is working on various projects and it's exciting to hear what the organization is doing to spread awareness for the game as well as creating more diversity within the sport.
