Jen MacAskill came on and shared some wonderful stories. She found the game young, with two brothers and a dad who played. Being the youngest, it made sense to her to pursue this game she saw for so long as a fan. She quickly found her love for the team, and always found herself wanting more at each crossroads. Eventually wanting more led to leaving home for a boarding school, which led to college hockey, and an eventual stint in the CWHL. Hockey had its ideas for her, and coaching became a big focus, and soon, Jen was at the helm of Manhattanville University, where she still is the bench boss. Locked On Canadiens - Daily Podcast on the Montreal Canadiens
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens The Montreal Canadiens are again releasing their behind the scenes video from the lead up to the NHL Draft, and the eventual selection of David Reinbacher at fifth overall. The hosts discuss what parts of the process they're hoping to see in order to get a full understanding behind what was a confusing 2023 NHL Draft for the Canadiens. Also announced on Tuesday was the creation of the PWHL, the latest professional women's hockey league in North America. Following the closure of the CWHL, and the PHF also shuttering operations to make this league a reality, the hosts debate the early news surrounding the PWHL. There is of course a team in Montreal, very likely to be loaded with stars like Marie-Philip Poulin, will the Canadiens find themselves getting involved in some way? Finally, former head coach Dom Ducharme sat down with TVA Sports for an interview, and the topic of Cole Caufield came up. The former coach defended his time with the team, saying he never slowed down the young winger, and that it was a coincidence of bad luck at the time. Both hosts have plenty to say on the interview, and on Ducharme's disastrous final days on the bench. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! FanDuel Make Every Moment More. It's one of our favourite sports on Off The Podium and it's a pleasure to bring you another athlete from it today as we bring you a great interview with Olympic gold medal winning ice hockey player Jamie Lee Rattray to learn more about her incredible career in the even more incredible sport! We find out from Jamie just how she got involved in the sport and how watching a certain Olympic moment lit a spark in her to help her towards her own Olympic dream. We also find out about her incredible college career in the US and her equally as incredible career in the CWHL. Added to this we find out how she was able to use the disappointment of not making the 2018 Olympics to her advantage, just how hungry her and her teammates were in Beijing for the gold and whether or not she might be able to use her hockey school to teach a certain Australian host some hockey skills moving forward. It's a fun chat that you will love every second of, so get to listening!

“Boring Blue Bear” STL@PIT 12/03/22There may be no mascot origin story less thought-through or more unimpressive than Louie's. Sorry, Blues fans. It's a HOCKEY NIGHT!!!! Innnnnnn PITTSBURGH!!!! The Blues are here to take on Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. Last time Missouri's NHL franchise were in town, the Pens came from behind in a tough-fought victory over a team who did just about anything they could to get under Pittsburgh's skin - literally - including a brawl that led to a bleeding cut on the bridge of 87's nose. It wasn't a good game plan for Berube's Blues, though, as the Penguins emerged with a 5-3 comeback W and, in the words of Josh Getzoff, a “2-pt Party on 5th Ave.”Thank you for listening!! For episode #181 of the Glass and Out podcast, we're joined by Kori Cheverie, a trailblazer for women's hockey and someone who had quite an eventful 2021-2022 season. First, she was an Assistant Coach with Team Canada's National Women's Team that captured Gold at the Olympics in Beijing. That was then followed with a trip to Germany for the U18 Men's World Championships, where she became the first female to work on the coaching staff of a Canadian men's National Team. Cheverie began coaching in youth programs at Ryerson University, while playing for the Toronto Fury of the CWHL. She decided to jump into the coaching ring full t-me and when she didn't see any opportunities with the Ryerson women's program, she turned to the men's program. She was named Assistant Coach of Ryerson's men's program in advance of the 2016-2017 season and in the process became the first female to be full-time Assistant Coach of a men's team in Canadian University Hockey. In 2019, she first got involved with Hockey Canada's program of excellence, beginning as an Assistant Coach of Canada's entry into the 2019 U18 Women's World Championships. Next up, in 2021, Cheverie took part the Women's World Championships as an Assistant Coach with Team Canada. That led to her appointment with the Team Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, which opened the door to her coaching the men at the U18 World Championships last month. In addition to all her accomplishments, Cheverie has also been linked to being a candidate to be the first woman hired as a full-time coach in the NHL. Given her track record, we have no doubt that she just may have the ability and drive to make it happen. Find out her thoughts on how to prepare a team for international tournaments, how to build trust through autonomy, and how she's preparing for the next stage in her career.
In episode #175 of the Glass and Out podcast, we speak with Tomas Pacina, who up until the day before we recorded this conversation, had been the Head Coach of the Czechia National Women's program for two seasons. Pacina has had an incredibly unique and diverse career that has touched just about every level of hockey. He moved to Calgary, Alberta, in the mid 90s and began coaching midget hockey, while working at a local hockey academy. This led to the opportunity become a Skills Coach for Canada's National Men's Team, which at the time was under the guidance of current Hockey Canada CEO Tom Renney. From there, he joined the New York Rangers as a Skills Coach, becoming one of the first of his position to be hired by an NHL team. He remained with the Rangers until 2004, and later worked with the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens in a similar capacity. From 2011 until 2020, Pacina was a skills coach for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, working under the leadership of Mike Johnston for majority of his tenure. In addition to his work in the men's game, Pacina has also making significant inroads in women's hockey. From 2002-2007, he was the Head Coach of the Calgary Oval X-Treme of the NWHL, and led the club to two league Championships. Pacina returned behind the bench of Calgary's professional women's team in 2017, however this time it was for the Calgary Inferno of the CWHL. He was named the league's Coach of the Year. In 2020, he was named Head Coach of the Czech National Women's team and put in charge of developing a competitive program. He helped the program qualify for its first Olympic games and jump up to seventh in world rankings. Hear his process for assisting players in building confidence, the benefits of playing a position-less system, and how to connect with an athlete's human spirit through inspiration.

In episode 17, I'm honoured to be joined by another iconic female hockey player, as Toronto Six starting goalie Elaine Chuli joins the show. Entering the prime of her career, Elaine has seen it all in women's hockey, representing Canada at the U18 World Championships, playing at UConn in the NCAA, and playing with the CWHL and PWHPA before joining Toronto in the NWHL. Having experience with countless leagues and teams in 3+ countries, Elaine knows better than most what life is currently like for many women's hockey players, with the majority of them having to work other jobs in order to make ends meet on the ice. An accountant herself, Elaine spent one of her few off days on the show to discuss what life is like as both a professional hockey player and an accountant, her career and the stories within it, as well as how her love for the game has brought her both resiliency and optimism towards the future. Blake Bolden is one of the coolest people I have ever met, who has accomplished many amazing things. She was a captain on Boston College's Division 1 Women's Ice Hockey team and was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team Hockey East All-Star her senior year. She was the first black hockey player taken in the first round of the CWHL as well as the first to play in the NWHL, and in February 2020, she became the first black female NHL scout. Also, another fun fact about her is that she partnered with Verbero to create the first female-named hockey stick. As you can see, she isn't short of accomplishments, and the list could go on! If you want to reach Blake or follow along on her journey, she can be found on Instagram @sportblake or on her website at blakebolden.com. Thanks for tuning in!
