Host Cyrus Webb welcomes author Brandi Dredge to Conversations LIVE to discuss her new booK GIRL, UNCODED.
Hey besties! Welcome to the first R&R solo episode, where Mia's taking the reins to revisit the books that shaped her childhood and how reconnecting with them has been a healing experience. If you wondered what house you would be sorted into, what cabin you would live in, whether you would survive the Hunger Games, or of course, graduate from a secret academy for spies in training as a Gallagher Girl, this is the episode for you. Mia's also ranting about a difficult struggle: unlearning people-pleasing tendencies. She gets personal about her journey of setting boundaries, focusing on self-care, and learning to say "no" without guilt. If you've ever felt like you're losing yourself trying to please everyone else, this one's for you.

We talk about book girl and honestly, for us it was not that great of a movie. There were many faults with it, the animation was not good and it felt lacking, and with us it just did not feel like a great movie. How it ended and the mystery part of it just left us wanting more from it but in the end, we did not get it. Just disappointment.Next week's choice is Millennium Actress. Episode 37 of the podcast is a quick Meltingpot Minute. Yes, it's a short episode, but it's long enough for me to share my honest review of the 2019 Booker Prize winning novel, Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo. The book is a delightful invitation into the lives of a diverse group of Black British women. Spoiler Alert: I loved it. Girl, Woman, Other is the perfect pandemic read. Why? Because the book is actually more like a collection of connected short stories than a novel, so even when my brain was fried, which it has been a lot thanks to our lockdown lifestyle, I could easily read a chapter of the book, and feel like I’d just read a great short story. Then the next time I picked the book up, whether it was one, or two, or three days later, I didn’t have to remember what I’d read the day before, because I’d be introduced to a brand-new character with a brand-new story to dive into. Listen to the episode to hear all of my thoughts about Girl, Woman, Other, and who I think will also enjoy this massive, but also massively readable, tome. And then please let me know if you too liked the book. Also, let me know if there are other books by Bernadine Evaristo that you think I should read next. For complete show notes, please visit My American Meltingpot.com. Episode 37 of the podcast was sponsored by the My American Meltingpot store.

Interesting article about author Rachel Hollis, author of the trendy self-help book "Girl, Wash Your Face" has me deep thinking again about the people in my Facebook feed portraying bullshit lives for whatever reason. Men and women both are guilty of this destructive power of marketing themselves falsely online. Why do they do it? Do I do it at some level? Do we all? Books, especially those that are well written and crafted, have power. If we allow, they can shape our thinking, mold how we see the world, and impact how we interact with others. When we read about true heroes, we learn how to become one. When we watch a character weather challenges, we find out what qualities are needed for to overcome. When we step into another's shoes, we gain compassion we did not have previously. In short, reading has the potential to literally change our lives. Sarah Clarkson, author of Book Girl, joins us to share how books have influenced the trajectory of her life, and how they invite beauty, strength, and belonging. The intelligence, insight, and depth Sarah brings to the discussion is, in itself, beautiful. If you have been one of those who has never been a reader, or who simply isn't taking the time in life to read, this will inspire you to dive in to good literature to equip you for life, and feed your heart and soul.
