Today we look at the fascinating medical treatment that is red light therapy. I speak Bryan Gohl founder of Red Light Rising a company specialising in Red light therapy. What is red light therapy and what conditions can it be used to treat. Find out how red light therapy affects the mitochondria in the cell and why this is signifcant. We hear it is particularly beneficial in treating pain. How is the red light therapy administered, for how long and how often? And are there any harmful side effects of this form of treatment. Some studies showing Redlight therapy's efficacy : Wound healing : A 2014 study published in the journal Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery found that RLT enhances wound healing by stimulating fibroblast function and increasing collagen synthesis. Pain relief / Inflammation reduction : A 2009 study published in The Lancet found that RLT significantly reduced pain in patients with chronic joint disorders, such as osteoarthritis . Anti-ageing : A 2013 study in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy demonstrated that RLT improved skin complexion and texture, reducing wrinkles in participants after several weeks of treatment . Muscle recovery : A 2016 study published in American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation showed that RLT helped reduce muscle fatigue and improved muscle recovery in athletes after exercise. Bryan Gohl is a bio hacker, founder of Heavy and co founder of Red Light Rising. Bryan has a real passion for wellness and he loves to talk about it! It has increased in size and reach, and turning a lot of heads in lots of industries because it’s quantifiable. Biohacking is about using your common sense of going, ‘Here’s the stuff I’m doing and here’s how I feel and here’s the data that backs it up,’ and saying, ‘Well, actually, what other areas should I test subjectively? And then see what I can quantify through data?’ Grounding or connecting with the earth is apparently a great antioxidant and good for sleep. Red light therapy is brilliant for healing. Metabolomics is the future health care. It’s looking at the body at the cellular level and seeing what your cells are deficient of. Hydration, sleep, and sunlight are really the three key things to health optimisation, plus metabolic flexibility. Action Steps: Get to the basics of optimising your health. Look at your genetics and see if there’s anything in the MTHFR specifically that needs optimising. Make sure that your hydration is correct. Have the proper mineralised water and the right minerals. Make sure your nutrition is correct. Eat organic, naturally-grown foods. Optimise your sleep by making sure that your light exposure is correct. Get natural light during the day and minimise blue light exposure by wearing blue light blocking glasses in the evening Take responsibility for your own health. Focus on the basics before you even think about buying any new technology. Personalise your diet. It’s very closely linked to what we often refer to as ancestral lifestyle practices. Red light therapy is the intersection of science and technology that actually mimics nature. It’s mimicking some of the healthiest types of light that come from the sun. Red and infrared lights cause an increase in energy production on a cellular level. When the cells of the body are stimulated by red and infrared lights, there is also an increase in anti-inflammatory enzymes that get released into the blood. As science moves on and studies what’s happening in terms of red light therapy, they have been able to narrow it down to very specific wavelengths that are represented by numbers. And LED is important because they can be programmed by computers to be exactly on target with those numbers. Infrared light penetrates the body up to a depth of about 5 cm. Red light has been shown to increase energy production in the Leydig cells in the testicles, which are the cells that produce sperm. Action Steps: Give red light therapy a try. Bryan said: “What’s really exciting is that science is really starting to kind of inform us that light is so important. Light can be very, very harmful but it’s also vitally important for optimising our health.” “If you’re spending any amount of time in front of this light, you’re taking a bit of time out of your day to give yourself this therapy, you may as well get the most bang for your buck… You may as well get a boost of energy as well, because healing is very energy-intensive. ” Thanks for listening!
