Uranium Mining in Northern Saskatchewan―What You Need To Know; Part 2, Small Nuclear Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Consent in Saskatchewan: What You Haven't Been Told Originally broadcast as a live-to-air online webinar, this four-part series was shortened to audio for your listening pleasure. We want to help you learn more about uranium mining in Northern Saskatchewan, why it is happening, and what the future looks like for Indigenous Peoples and allies resisting uranium mining and nuclear waste in their traditional territories.  Tori Cress hosts this episode's guests, including Paul Belanger, Keepers of the Water Science Advisor. Dr. Gordon Edwards, President and co-founder of the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility, and Benjamin Ralston BA, JD, LLM, Assistant Professor at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan. Between our guests, you will gain decades of combined knowledge of uranium extraction and nuclear energy. You can watch the original broadcast on Facebook and YouTube. Please note the YouTube video is of lower quality due to connectivity issues during the live broadcast. In this episode, we will hear from Dr. Gordon Edwards, president and co-founder of the Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility. Dr. Edwards is dedicated to education and research on all issues related to nuclear energy, whether civilian or military, including non-nuclear alternatives. A retired professor of mathematics and science at Vanier College, Doctor Edwards has also served as a consultant on nuclear issues for governmental and non-governmental bodies for over 45 years. He has been accepted as an expert witness by US and Canadian courts and tribunals, has cross-examined nuclear experts during provincial commissions of inquiry, and has been invited to address various countries. Nuclear energy is not clean energy that will save us from the climate crisis. This false solution is being sold to citizens by the same industries that are the source of the climate problem. Nuclear power, including SMRs, is not a climate solution because it is filthy to mine, physically dangerous, too expensive and very slow. The rise of nuclear energy as a solution to the climate crisis is a looming threat to clean, fresh water for the entire planet. Current extraction practices and policies have brought us to this global crisis, and colonial practices are not how we save ourselves from ourselves. Natural law shows us that we are not separate from our environment, and the time to pay attention to that teaching is now. This episode was edited and produced by Beverly Andrews.

We welcome Rod Giltaca, CEO and Executive Director of the Canadian Coalition of Firearm Rights (CCFR) to the pod. We dive into the recent amendment to Bill C-21 that will directly affect many law-abiding firearm owners across the country. Rod touches on the history of the bill, the journey it has taken that resulted in a prohibition on handgun sales in Canada, and where we are headed with all of this.A very knowledgeable and impassioned individual, Rod does an excellent job of articulating why we need to address this last amendment. The CCFR has been spending a great deal of time pushing back on these amendments and standing up for the legal ownership of firearms in Canada. It is interesting to note that replica firearms and airsoft guns are being prohibited as well. Be sure to listen out on how and why this will likely affect you even if your current firearm is not on the new list. It is more important now than ever before that we reach out to our elected officials and let them know how you feel about the latest amendment to C-21.The Wild Sheep Society of BC is proud to support the CCFR. Be sure to listen in to see how we are doing it.For more information or to join the CCFR visit them at https://firearmrights.ca/

Good afternoon panel! A couple of things from the past week. Last weekend, I had a listener meetup with Liz and friends to try my hand at pheasant hunting  Great to meet up with like minded individuals.  Had a great day, but no luck with the hunt. On my way to and from the hunting area, I thought that I would expand my listening library and take in some of the CCFR podcast episodes.  After listening to 4 episodes, I believe that I now have a better understanding of Rod Giltaca.  Or not.  It seems to me that one of the favourite subjects to speak on is "Things I have done".  I am sure that the CCFR as an organization does good work on behalf of Canadian firearms owners, but to paraphrase Adhemar from the movie "A Knight's Tale", the podcast has been weighed, has been measured, and has been found wanting.  Frankly, I expected a little more.  Thoughts on that? Secondly, another appropriate movie reference. My utter contempt and loathing for all things federal government related has been "turned up to 11", after the shenanigans pulled with C21 this past week.  Clearly the idiots in Ottawa do not know the difference between an "amendment" and a "complete rewrite"! (FYI, the movie was "This is Spinal Tap", if you were not aware) Looking forward to this week's discussion! Best Regards, Eric   From: Gerry RE: Amend This Episode Hello, I appreciate the effort and content you put in the podcasts, but the Amend This episode will be my last. Hearing a person refer to firearms as “weapons of mass destruction” and stating “you have the right to hunt even though you don't need to”  in this episode is counter productive and divisive to people who value freedom. The ability to take care of yourself or your family whether it be fishing, hunting or growing food is an essential skill worth learning and may be useful given the situation we face. Marksmanship and accuracy are worthwhile and respectable  pursuits that should join the sport shooting and hunting communities. The aforementioned commentary is neither accurate or respectable. Thank you for the past episodes and I wish you the best in future endeavours. The team's owner told Radio-Canada on Monday that the 35-year-old Price was not aware of the 1989 massacre. “I am not a criminal or a threat to society,” he posted to Instagram, along with a photo of him wearing camouflage hunting gear and cradling a shotgun. “What @justinpjtrudeau is trying to do is unjust. I support the @ccfr_ccdaf (Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights) to keep my hunting tools.” -Separately, a spokesperson for Public Security Minister Marco Mendicino told La Presse that the firearm Price is carrying in his Instagram post would not be banned under Bill C-21. “Our bill does not target firearms currently used for hunting and we fully respect the traditions of hunters and Indigenous Peoples,” Audrey Champoux said in a statement. -political science Professor Kathy Brock said gun control offers a unique dilemma to the NDP, who rely heavily on both inner-city voters and those in rural parts of the country. “This one is very difficult for the NDP to find a united consensus position on,” she told the National Post. “They are putting the NDP in a very difficult position that could cause a bit of a schism and tension in the relationship between the NDP and Liberals, but also within the NDP party.” -Veteran NDP MP Charlie Angus who represents Timmins-James Bay, a vast northern Ontario riding encompassing nearly 252,000 sq. km. and a diverse range of rural cities, villages and First Nations communities, is speaking out. A recent court decision also takes note of that. In 2013, Jennifer Murphy was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and sentenced to more than three years in prison after having unprotected sex without disclosing her HIV status. The Ontario Court of Appeal overturned her conviction last month, noting Murphy's undetectable viral load meant there was no realistic possibility of transmission of the virus. Systemic racism might be hard to perceive without perspective. To our guest, Ingrid Waldron, growing up in Montreal in a multicultural environment, racism was being called the n-word at school or eventually suffering physical abuse for being Black. It wasn't until her parents took her to Trinidad, where they were originally from, and she got in touch with a dominant Black society, that she discovered the existence of a more profound, more ingrained racism. After five years in Trinidad, living in Canada had a completely different meaning for her.Ingrid Waldron is the Professor & HOPE Chair in Peace & Health in the Global Peace and Social Justice Programme at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of The Environmental Noxiousness, Racial Inequities & Community Health Project (the ENRICH Project). We delve into the social determinants of health caused by racism in Canada and its link with high-stress levels and chronic diseases. Ingrid shared bits of her past, her first experiences with racism, and the sad discovery of systemic and environmental racism.
