This month we are welcoming Colleen Piper, Owner of The Bullet Shop. About Colleen: Colleen's desire for shooting came at an early age. Her family hunted like most families back in the day and as she grew older, shooting was put on the back burner. Then she met her husband of 44 years, Ed. Their love of the outdoors had them out deer, elk, moose, bird game and migratory hunting.  It didn't take long before she stole his 270 Ruger Bolt Action rifle (which she still uses today!). As soon as their sons were old enough, they got involved with hunting too. Colleen's passion for IPSC started when she attended the Calgary Gun Show in 2004. Off in the back corner I could hear gun fire and she just had to go see what was going on. There was a booth with 4 smiling guys so eager to sell this new passion called IPSC. Her interest was sparked! 2 years later a gentleman move to their home town and started IPSC at their local club - the Brooks Pistol and Small Bore Club. Here was her chance to get her feet wet. In the spring of 2006 Colleen and Ed took their Black Badge Course which is required to shoot IPSC. In 2007 Colleen and Ed competed in the Alberta Provincials at their home range. No doubt, They had both gotten the shooting bug! As one would know most hobbies are expensive; no different than with IPSC. Colleen and Ed's passion for shooting and attending matches quickly out-paced their finances. What else to do than to buy a remanufacturing handgun ammunition company! Colleen and Ed purchased The Bullet Shop in 2008. Since then, their business has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. Collen and Ed feel truly blessed to be able to do something they are both passionate about. The Bullet Shop has helped fellow competitors earn National titles, including Amanda Fisher, who competed and won Top Production Lady in 2024 and Justin Thomson, who won Top Production Optics on the National Team in 2024. Colleen started to compete in 2006 and since then has had to work hard to achieve and hold onto top lady in Alberta for years. She has achieved titles of Top Lady in Standard at the Alberta Provincials and Canadian Nationals, as well as Top Production Optics Lady in Alberta. Colleen's biggest reward in the world of IPSC is watching her friends, new and old, participating in something they are passionate about. Watching how all their hard work in practice has paid off at matches. The smiles, laughs and tears are all a part of this wonderful world called IPSC. We welcomed 3 members from Guns of the Golden West, established in 1981, specializing in historical reenactments, educational presentations, old west shoot-out shows, period-authentic costuming and firearms and trick-shooting displays. Guns of the Golden West has worked with many well-known historical locations, events, and societies around Alberta and even into the United States, including the Calgary Stampede, Heritage Park, Aspen Crossing, Innisfail Historical Village, and Double T Percherons. Bob Wilson "Black Bart" - President of Guns of the Golden West Bob began his reenactment journey 34 years ago when he began volunteering with the Calgary Stampede and was accepted onto the Promotion Committee and a sub-committee called the "Stampede Sixguns". From there he joined the Guns of the Golden West Association where he has been an entertainer and educator since 1990. Kelli-Anne McLean "Outlaw Anne" Kelli-Anne was given her first gun (22LR) when she was just 5 years old by her dad who taught her proper firearms safety and she joined him every chance hunting big game in the mountains of BC. Kelli-Anne always had a passion for firearm's, especially 6-shooters and when she met a number of members of GOGW at the Easter Gun Show 8 yrs ago, She knew she had found a group she wanted to join. The rest has been burnt powder. She enjoyed her time with GOGW since she joined because she loves that you can be someone else from a different time and have fun being period correct 1880's era. Kelli-Anne's husband, and their two daughters (13 & 6) are also members. Kelli-Anne has a background in horses and has ridden with GOGW in the Calgary Stampede Parade and as an actor shooting at a train at Aspen Crossing. Hannah Pedersen "Ruby Roan" Hannah is a 25 year old homesteader from rural southern Alberta. She's had a love of history and horses since before she could walk, but didn't start to live these dreams until her mid teens. Hannah was a competitive gymnast for over a decade in her formative years, and traveled to places like Australia and Portugal representing her club, Team Alberta, and Team Canada. Upon her retirement from gymnastics, that's when she started to really get serious about horses, guns, and history and combining the three. She is currently in the process of gun-breaking her youngest mare, "Sarcee," to begin her Mounted Shooting career (if she ever has time). Aside from sport, Hannah completed a Bachelors Degree in Western Canadian History from the UofS, specializing in Western ranching operations and settler-first nations relations. She is an experienced Draft Horse Teamster, working at Heritage Park Historical Village for a few years as the ranch supervisor, and then working on a horse and cattle ranch south of Calgary. Now, she is onto a path into the Antique appraisal industry. She's always had an interest in guns, specifically historical firearms (if you couldn't have already guessed). She believes there's something very powerful in knowing how to use them in a day-in-age where people don't like them and have no idea how to use them. She has her two prized revolvers (Ruger and Pietta), her nifty little mares leg, and her great grandfather's rifle. She got involved with the GGW in 2021 when Bob and another member of the club invited her to join the Guns at the Calgary Stampede Parade. She's been a part of the club since then, as history, historical reenactment, horses, and guns are right up her alley.

About a year later in she began her PRS journey. It all began with the ‘Outlaw Rimfire Precision Series' that her dad hosted at Warren Field. She won 1st in production, which gave her the motivation to continue with that PRS series and others like it. Now, she is nearing the end of the 2022 season and she has partaken in many PRS series competitions and she has won some cool medals and trophies! Jess has the full support of amazing businesses such as Go Big Tactical, US Optics and Grey Birch Solutions which has helped set her up to succeed. We talked all about women in the firearms industry. Jennifer Gadbois Jenn lives in rural Eastern Ontario and is an avid hunter, angler, competitive shooter, and lady in the firearm industry. While she didn't grow up in a household interested in hunting, she has always spent more time outdoors than indoors and has always been interested in self-sustainability. The moment she graduated college, she had a few extra seconds and a few extra dollars to invest in the one-stop hunting and PAL course. After completing the courses, becoming licensed, and doing her research (the internet can offer some fantastic learning resources), Jenn quickly dove into hunting head first. Vetted and proficient in safe and responsible hunting and firearm handling, this journey still meant a lot of trial and error to figure out what did and did not work in the many other aspects of hunting and shooting. A hunting passion quickly sparked a bigger firearm passion. Jenn went on to take the RPAL course and become a licensed, restricted firearm owner. She never realized how healthy and inviting Canada's firearm community was and how diverse sports shooting was. After a few years of recreational range visits, Jenn completed the Black Badge Course, and she now competes in IPSC and steel challenges through summer while hunting every fall. In December of 2021, she took on the exciting new role of Managing Director with the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association. CSAAA (CS-triple A) is a non-profit organization that lobbies, fights and works to support Canada's hunting and firearm industry. Jenn is beyond grateful to have the opportunity to fight for something she is passionate about and a community and industry that benefits tens of thousands of Canadians in many ways. Guest Speaker: Sarah Hisson Sarah did not ever think I would be in the shooting sports. She didn't grow up around firearms and only got her license for working in museums. She started shooting in 2012 when her husband, Mike, bought his first rifle. After getting comfortable with rifles, they moved onto handguns, before starting competitive shooting in 2015. That year she first started shooting cowboy. Mike had suggested it to her since it incorporated competition and her love of history. she tried it once, and was hooked!! She shot every match she could before having to take a break to have her daughter and son. But she is hoping to get out to a match again this year! The past few years she has been able to dabble in IDPA and ICORE to keep herself active in the shooting community. It's something she really enjoys, and appreciates the fact that she can bring my family to the range so they can be involved too!

This month, we talked to Lauren Straud and Christie Tubb; Extreme Long Range (ELR) competitive shooters. We talked about how they got into the sport, how they train, experiences and successes. Guest Speakers: Lauren Straud Lauren Stroud is 34 years old and she recently tied the knot with Chase Stroud whom she likes to brag has one of the best Extreme Long Range (ELR) minds in the sport! When She first met Chase, She had never shot a precision rifle before. The very first day they met, he had her do a test: if she missed, he got to kiss her! Lauren is very competitive, but she also wanted that kiss! She rose to the challenge and hit all the targets on the first try except one. That way she still hit the targets, and she still got her kiss! Chase and Lauren are now happily married PewPew Partners for life! When Lauren was just starting out, Chase let her try his military version of the .375 EnABELR, the first time she shot it, she was hooked! He helped guide her on at 2 Miles! From there, she kept wanting to shoot his gun so much that he got her a base for my own .375 EnABELR as a Christmas present. This had an Accurate Rifle Systems chassis. It was gorgeous, but she was so comfortable with his Cadex chassis, she wanted one of those too. This had her switching over to Cadex. She now has her very own custom dream rifle Where's Waldo/Lauren Robins Egg Blue Dual Strike chassis. Her biggest accomplishment thus far is her 3 mile impact back on October 25th! She was practicing with Chase for their goal to document getting impacts at 3 miles on the same day. Chase's rifle wasn't ready that day, but hers was, so she had to see if it could make it for the future couples 3 mile hit. Lauren and Chase both love going to competitions and practicing, testing, and just taking their rifles to their limits. There are so many people out there that have no idea what their rifles are actually capable of. She wants to positively expose it, and hopefully interest more people to the ELR sport. Lauren wants to see a more positive light shined in on responsible gun ownership. She is also a women's business owner of Pump's Precision Rifle Training, LLC where her husband Chase trains ELR and much more. If anyone is interested in becoming an ELR shooter or wants to brush up any skills, check them out on their website, Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. This month we talked to Amanda Fisher and Laura Seitz; IPSC, USPSA and Steel Challenge competitive shooters. We'll talk about how they got into the sport, their success stories and maybe some flops and what they learned from them. Amanda Fisher Amanda Fisher is a competitive shooter from Alberta. IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation) is what she predominately competes in but also dabbles in a bit of 3 gun, USPSA and Steel Challenge. Her love and interest of firearms began in 2015 when she shot her first pistol. To better understand the working of a handgun, she took the Black Badge course. This is a holster training course that is a prerequisite to shooting IPSC. Although Amanda had no interest in competing, she wanted her Black Badge certification so she competed in her first IPSC competition early 2016. Well, she was hooked and the rest is history. Right now, Amanda shoots a CZ Shadow 2 in the Production Division in IPSC but will be transitioning to the Standard Division in the near future. In 2018 Amanda successfully completed the Range Officer course and has RO'd several major matches Nationally. Her accomplishments have been a wonderful journey for her; currently she is the Top Production Division Lady in Alberta, Top Production Division Lady in Saskatchewan, the 5th place overall in Production Division in Alberta and the 5th Lady in the Production Division in Canada. With her strong finishes and her will to keep going forward, Amanda has recently been accepted to represent Alberta on the Alberta Gold Team at the Canadian Nationals 2022 and Canada at the IPSC World Shoot Championships in Thailand, November 2022. In preparation for the World Shoot, Amanda is loading a ton of ammunition and doing regular dry fire sessions for when the weather is better, and she can put her dry fire training to the test on the range and in provincial qualifying events. Laura Seitz Laura was first introduced to firearms when she was about 12 years old, by her Dad and her uncle. She loved it! However, there was a large gap in time that she didn't think about shooting. Time passed, she got older, went to school, pursued a career, participated in other sports and got married. One day at the end of 2019, out of the blue, her husband asked me what she thought of guns and she shared her childhood memories. This began an exciting and fun filled passion that she and her husband, Devon, share to this day. Laura's journey with shooting began again when she joined a Steel Challenge league night. It was so gratifying to hear that steel ring! Soon after, they both got their Black Badge and started going to as many International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) and Steel Challenge matches as they could. She shot both Alberta (AB) and Saskatchewan (SK) Provincials last year and then went on to the Canadian National Steel Challenge Championships. This led to an opportunity to write an article with a friend and competitor, Amanda Fisher, in the USPSA magazine published in 2021.
