In this episode, Dr. Debi sits down with Dr. G to discuss rejection, emotional patterns, and how childhood experiences shape our relationships and self-worth. They explore how these patterns influence betrayal, healing, and transformation. Dr. G shares powerful insights on how to identify, isolate, and eliminate emotional wounds to break free from the cycle of rejection. Key Topics Covered: The Formation of Emotional Patterns: By age 8, 80% of our emotional patterns are formed, and by age 18, our self-image is fully developed. This foundation significantly impacts our adult relationships. Personality Types and Their Impact: The four personality types—Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmatic—affect how we respond to rejection and relationships. The Role of Family in Emotional Development: How childhood environments and parental relationships shape emotional habits, including anxiety, anger, and rejection. The Cycle of Rejection and Betrayal: How unresolved childhood wounds manifest in adulthood, leading to self-sabotaging behaviors in relationships. Breaking Free from Emotional Bondage: Understanding the concept of "Rejection Junkies" and how to heal past wounds by addressing the root causes rather than symptoms. Healing from Betrayal and Emotional Trauma: Real-life examples of overcoming past hurts, including how Dr. G and his wife navigated deep wounds in their marriage. Key Takeaways: Emotional patterns are deeply ingrained from childhood and shape adult relationships. Rejection can be overt or covert, with both having lasting effects on self-esteem and relationship dynamics. Opposites attract, then attack, then retract—understanding this cycle can help break negative relationship patterns. Healing from betrayal and rejection requires addressing the root causes, not just symptoms. Self-love and self-worth are critical to building healthy relationships. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” - Ephesians 4:29Have you ever wanted to take back words, maybe even right after saying them? We often use the phrase, “That came out wrong.” Kathleen Edelman joins us today to talk about getting communication right the first time.Kathleen Edelman is the author of “I Said This, You Heard That: How Your Wiring Colors Your Communication.” She is certified in Biblical Studies and Christian Counseling Psychology and has spent more than 30 years coaching clients in the art of communication.Temperament vs. Personality: What's the Difference? Many of us think of communication in terms of personality, but temperament is actually a concept rooted in ancient studies by Hippocrates. While personality is shaped by factors like life experiences and birth order, temperament is hardwired and unchangeable—like your eye color or fingerprint.Temperament defines how we naturally respond to various situations. Understanding it can transform how we approach everything, from relationships to finances. The Four Temperaments: What Are They?Kathleen's work breaks down temperaments into four distinct categories, each with its own language and motivations. Here's a brief overview:Sanguine (Yellow): These individuals are motivated by people and fun. Their financial goals are often tied to exciting future plans, like saving for a dream vacation.Choleric (Red): Cholerics are goal-driven visionaries. Give them a financial target, and they'll hit it with precision, always eager to set the next goal.Melancholic (Blue): Melancholics crave safety and order. They plan meticulously, ensuring that they are financially prepared for all eventualities.Phlegmatic (Green): Phlegmatics seek harmony and tend to have a laid-back attitude toward money. They are often the most challenging to get on a budget but can be motivated by long-term, meaningful goals.Communication and Finances: The ConnectionUnderstanding your own temperament—and that of your spouse or financial advisor—can lead to more effective communication, especially when it comes to managing money. For example, if you are married to a melancholic, they'll want to feel financially safe, which means they'll be focused on saving and planning for the future. Conversely, a sanguine needs a fun or people-centered motivation to stick to a financial plan.By learning to "speak" each other's language, couples can create harmony in their finances, much like they do in other areas of their relationship.Strengths, Weaknesses, and Innate NeedsEach temperament has a set of strengths and weaknesses. While our weaknesses may seem burdensome, they help us appreciate and manage our strengths. For example, a melancholic's focus on safety can sometimes lead to anxiety, but when managed well, it ensures a secure financial future.Another concept we should familiarize ourselves with is "innate needs"—non-negotiable motivators that drive each temperament. Knowing these needs can improve communication and reduce conflict in relationships, particularly when discussing money.Ephesians 4:29 reminds us:“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”Let's choose our words wisely, building others up according to their temperament and needs.A Path to Stronger Communication and Financial HarmonyUnderstanding your temperament and how it colors your communication can profoundly impact your relationships and finances. God has wired each of us uniquely, and by recognizing and respecting these differences, we can better serve and love one another—especially when it comes to managing our money. If you're ready to explore the connection between temperament and communication further, Kathleen's book I Said This, You Heard That: How Your Wiring Colors Your Communication is available wherever books are sold. If you're interested in going deeper, the book also includes a workbook designed to be completed over six weeks. If you study psychology, you might have learned about the 4 temperaments of personality. The four temperaments believe that people's behavior and personality are caused by the type and amount of fluids in their bodies. These fluids are categorized into 4 temperaments personality: Choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, and melancholic. The four temperaments personality test is obviously outdated now, but if you're interested in learning more about the history of personality ideas, then this video is definitely for you! Humans are 70% Biology and 30% Psychology...While modern psychology tends to look at a person as 100% personality, Unani BioTypes takes the biology behind behavior into account as well. DO YOU KNOW HOW YOU'RE BIOLOGICALLY DESIGNED? The system of the four biological temperaments (BioTypes), or humors as they were originally called Melancholic, Choleric, Sanguine, and Phlegmatic— have been used to analyze personalities for over two thousand years, since the time of Aristotle and Hippocrates. Your unique biological makeup is called your temperament. It's the “why” behind your personality. It determines how people interpret words, actions, relationships, and respond to them. Armed with her Powers education, she went on to study at Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan – Flint before moving to California. She married her husband Brad and lived out west for seven years, taking on work as a real estate appraiser and salesperson as they started their lives together. Throughout her career journey, Kathleen always had a guiding passion. From the time she was a child, she had been troubled by miscommunication. Why do so many people seem to talk past each other when they have discussions or arguments? Why do people say things they don't mean? Above all, she wondered why people would say unkind things to each other when it wasn't necessary – especially because, in her view, it was never necessary. She always wanted to help people become better communicators, but it wasn't until she and Brad, her husband, moved to Maryland in 1991 that her passion found direction. During the long car ride from coast to coast, she listened to the work of Florence Littauer, an author of temperament-based books. Littauer's theories sparked an odyssey for Kathleen that, in some ways, is still ongoing today. Kathleen realized that the keys to kind and productive communication are empathy and mutual understanding. Everyone naturally speaks and hears all language from their own individual innate wirings. This means that something said by one person can be interpreted in a completely unique way by another. This gap – the space between what is said and what is heard – is often the root of conflict in marriages, business relationships, and friendships. She found the solution to this miscommunication in her study of the four temperaments – melancholy, phlegmatic, choleric, and sanguine. The temperaments are a method for classifying individuals based on their natural tendencies, needs, strengths, weaknesses, and innate needs. Each temperament has a different set of these – for example, melancholy individuals thrive on space and silence, whereas sanguines need acceptance and approval to feel fulfilled. Kathleen discovered that understanding the temperaments is vital to healthy communication. First, when someone understands their own temperament, they are better equipped to understand their emotional, spiritual, and social needs. Filling these needs and effectively communicating them to others can help a person operate in their strengths rather than in their weaknesses. Furthermore, understanding the innate wiring of another person allows one to “speak their language.” For example, even if you say the exact same words to a choleric and a phlegmatic, they'll each probably hear something completely different. Kathleen found that teaching people to communicate intentionally in this way is often the key to saving relationships. Knowing the innate needs of others allows us to love them better. Her study was always motivated by her strong faith – specifically, all of her work on communication centers upon the directive passed down by Christ through Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome words come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up, according to their needs, so that it may benefit those who listen.” Because of her spiritual focus, she partnered with North Point Ministries to spread the message of healthy, temperament-based communication as widely as possible. She has written a workbook, recorded several free videos, and released a six-week bible study called “I Said This, You Heard That” aimed at developing communication skills by educating people about the four temperaments through the framework of Ephesians 4:29 (if you are curious, you can check out her work on her website at isaidyouheard.study). Kathleen regularly travels around the country speaking about and providing training on temperaments and empathetic communication – in total, her work has already impacted millions of relationships worldwide. Currently, Kathleen lives in Georgia with her husband Brad. The two live about an hour north of Atlanta, and enjoy spending time with friends and family, enjoying the lake or working on projects around the house. She has two children, Avery and Brice, who also live in Georgia. Avery, her daughter, graduated from the University of Georgia in 2019 and works as a graphic designer. Brice, her son, started a coding education company after receiving his degree from Georgia Tech in 2020. Kathleen published her second book in 2021 called “A Grown-Up's Guide To Kids' Wiring,” which teaches better communication skills to anyone in the life of a child or teenager: parents, grandparents, coaches, counselors, aunt, uncles, neighbors, etc! Kathleen continues to speak and teach across the country, as well as meet oe-on-one with people for personal coaching. The demand for Kathleen and her content has been so high that she has expanded her team to include a small group of women who speak and teach on her behalf, when needed. She has one thing that she'd like to say to every single person reading this: “The words you use are the words you choose; remember, kind words are cool!”

We hear it all the time in coaching."It doesn't matter what I want. I want what God wants."Sounds nice. Sounds holy. But it also makes for a pretty one-sided conversation.Have you ever considered how sharing your desires could be a key component of discerning His will? For the phlegmatic temperament there can often be a reluctance to share what they desire. But our desires are not burdens to God. He wants to hear them. He wants to refine them and refine us in the process. In this podcast we explore how the phlegmatic Catholic leader can enter into a more honest dialogue with God and better discern his will. The four-temperament theory is a proto-psychological theory that suggests that there are four fundamental personality types: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic and Phlegmatic. Phlegmatic. Most formulations include the possibility of mixtures among the types where an individual's personality types overlap, and they share two or more temperaments. Sanguine The sanguine temperament is fundamentally sociable and pleasure-seeking; sanguine people are impulsive and charismatic. They tend to enjoy social gatherings, and making new friends and tend to be boisterous. Choleric The choleric temperament is fundamentally ambitious and leader-like. They have a lot of aggression, energy, and/or passion, and try to instill that in others. Melancholic The melancholic temperament is fundamentally introverted and is given thought. Melancholic people often are perceived as very (or overly) pondering and are both considerate and very cautious. They are organized and schedule oriented. Phlegmatic The phlegmatic temperament is fundamentally relaxed and quiet, ranging from warmly attentive to lazily sluggish. Phlegmatic tend to be content with themselves and are kind. Phlegmatic is consistent, they can be relied upon to be steady and faithful friends. The four temperaments have been around since Hippocrates, who theorized that our human behavior is influenced by the quantities of various fluids present in our bodies. The four temperaments are: Sanguine (blood), Choleric (Yellow bile), Melancholic (black bile), and phlegmatic (phlegm). The ancient Greeks understood psychology a lot better than they understood science. Hippocrates, the father of the Hippocratic Oath, believed that our information-gathering and decision-making processes are determined by an imbalance of 4 bodily fluids – red blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm – two of which have never existed in the form that Hippocrates theorized. But the four basic temperaments that Hippocrates associated with these four fluids have lived on to be verified, codified, dignified and personified by screenwriters and novelists and social scientists* around the world. Hippocrates called these temperaments Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmatic. More than 400 years ago, Shakespeare depicted the full range of human behaviors and character types by embracing the original theories of Hippocrates. The National Library of Medicine has https://www.nlm.nih.gov/exhibition/shakespeare-and-the-four-humors/index.html (an interesting online exhibit about it.) We see these four basic temperaments in ourselves, our family, our friends, and all the most interesting characters in every form of story-telling: The Wizard of Oz Lion (sanguine) Scarecrow (choleric) Dorothy (melancholic) and Tin Man (phlegmatic) Archie Comics Archie (sanguine) Veronica (choleric) Betty (melancholic) and Jughead (phlegmatic) I Love Lucy Ricky (sanguine) Lucy (choleric) Fred (melancholic) Ethel (phlegmatic) Gilligan's Island Gilligan (sanguine) the Skipper (choleric) the Professor (melancholic) Mr. Howell (phlegmatic) Star Trek Captain Kirk (sanguine) Spock (choleric) Scotty (melancholic) Bones (phlegmatic) Magnum P.I. T.C. (sanguine) Tom (choleric) Higgins (melancholic), and Rick (phlegmatic) Friends Phoebe and Joey (sanguine) Monica (choleric) Ross (melancholic) Rachel and Chandler (phlegmatic) Seinfeld Kramer (sanguine) Elaine (choleric) George (melancholic) Jerry (phlegmatic) Frasier Roz (sanguine) Frasier (choleric) Niles (melancholic) Daphne (phlegmatic) The Golden Girls Blanche (sanguine) Sophia (choleric) Dorothy (melancholic) Rose (phlegmatic) Sex and The City Samantha (sanguine) Miranda (choleric) Charlotte (melancholic) Carrie (phlegmatic) Schitt's Creek Moira (sanguine) Johnny (choleric) David (melancholic) Alexis (phlegmatic) Desperate Housewives Susan (sanguine) Gabrielle (choleric) Bree (melancholic) Lynette (phlegmatic) Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Kimmy (Sanguine) Jacqueline (Choleric) Titus (Melancholic) Lillian (Phlegmatic) Big Bang Theory Howard (sanguine) Sheldon (choleric) Raj (melancholic) Leonard (phlegmatic) The Office Michael (sanguine) Dwight (choleric) Pam (melancholic) Jim (phlegmatic) Game of Thrones Arya (sanguine) Sansa (choleric) Jon (melancholic) Bran (phlegmatic) Entertainment is the only currency with which you can purchase the time and attention of a too-busy public. An understanding of the predictable frictions between these four temperaments – and their deep and abiding need for one another – is the basis of every form of long-term entertainment. The novelists who win the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes know this. The screenwriters of all the hit TV series know this. And the ad writers who make a difference know this. When you become intrigued with an interesting fictional character, you spend time with them, whether they are in a book, or a TV series, or in an ad campaign. Most ad writing is transactional: “Give us money, and this is what we'll give you in return.” Transactional ads are about short-term “harvesting” but they work less and less well the more continuously you use them. Relational ads are about long-term “customer bonding” and they work better and better the longer you use them. Do you want your company to be the one that customers think of immediately and feel the best about? Create a long-term ad campaign that is 2/3 relational customer-bonding ads and
In Part 2 of this important conversation, Rodrigo Garcia Platas encourages us to know ourselves so that we can know business success. During this episode, Rodrigo Garcia Platas provides a more in-depth breakdown of how the 4 Unani BioTypes work and how to know where you fit. Unani BioTypes are an ancient method of identification and categorization of the different types of Humans. They have been used to treat both physical and mental imbalances by doctors and healers throughout history. Rodrigo was looking for a way to explain his observations about humanity when he discovered the ancient science of Human Design. He quickly realized that BioTypes-which were originally conceived by the Greeks- explained the connections between the personality and biology of people. Rodrigo first ventured into the field of human development at the age of 19. He has worked with television and national radio programs as a human development and Unani BioType expert. He founded his company, RGP Development, to empower others through the art and science of Biotyping. Today, he teaches virtual and face-to-face workshops in English and Spanish on Emotional Intelligence, Human Development, BioTypes, Healthy Masculinity, Infatuation, Leadership, Business Well-being, Sales and Conflict Resolution. Are you Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholic or Phlegmatic? Listen to draw your own conclusions! Understanding your BioType can help explain what motivates you, what repels you, how you can improve your communication and where you'll be happiest within a work organization. It can also explain tension in your relationships, personality clashes at work and a lack of fulfillment in professional endeavors. Are you ready to see your life in entirely new ways? Find your BioType! Explore a deeper understanding of the people around you: Rodrigo Garcia Platas can help provide a more nuanced view of the people you find frustrating (or even insufferable). What are their motivations and how can we value their contributions to the world? How can we celebrate their strengths and reconnect them to their community? These are questions Rodrigo's company investigates through their study of Unani BioTypes. Through BioTypes we can develop a more compassionate lens through which to view human beings, business, institutions, relationships and ourselves. Quotes “We're certifying coaches who will be in different industries. We're choosing people who are showing that they understand these principles.” “We've worked with Walmart, airlines, department stores, universities and governments. What we can do in the corporate world is fascinating. Institutional culture is important. If we get BioTypes into big structures of human beings that work in a specific way, it's going to impact thousands of people. That's how you make something embedded in a society.” “[Imagine] if becoming an entrepreneur meant getting to know yourself, and getting to know human beings in order to hire people. Imagine if you couldn't open a company without knowing how to treat people, because you'll just hurt the people you hire. Let's give them this as a tool.” Links mentioned in this episode: Explore the RGP website at https://www.rgpdevelopment.com/ Get your FREE BioTypes PDF Worksheet at https://mailchi.mp/7ba8fdc326aa/unani-biotypes Listen to Rodrigo's Podcast BioTypical here: https://biotypical.buzzsprout.com/ Follow along with Rodrigo on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/rgpdevelopment/ Join the BioTypes mailing list by entering your email at https://rgpdevelopment.us10.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=fb136636d803822bdc695c982&id=bf90e74b09

Hey friend! I'm so glad you're here for this bonus episode with Sandy Myers! If you missed last week's interview with her, I hope you'll go back and listen because she has a great testimony that includes being a child of divorce, struggling with singleness until she was 30 and then having to deal with infertility for years after she married. But today's episode is all about you! Sandy is a temperament coach who understands how important it is for us to become aware of the way we're wired so we can learn to rise up in our own strengths instead of sinking in our weaknesses. She believes self-awareness and emotional intelligence can really bring clarity into your life. Sandy's life was radically changed when she learned the different facets of her own temperament, so much so that she became a temperament coach. She has such a passion for helping others discover their temperament because it also gives insight into your personal life and is a great foundation for personal development areas. There's so much good stuff in here that Sandy graciously shares. My prayer is that this episode will not only help you understand yourself and your needs better, but also those in your family. It's a great tool to give insight into how you handle stresses and pressures of life based on your unique set of needs. She also shares in this episode the nine words that can change your life. I hope you come away from this interview ready to make progress in your life and your family.
Today's episode focuses on Phlegmatic and Sanguine temperaments. Now that you understand yourself and your behavioral patterns, how about others? Your lover, friends, parents and colleagues? How do you relate with the different temperaments in your life? How can you communicate better and balance their strengths and weaknesses? Listen on Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Podopolo or your browser.
Kids with the Phlegmatic temperament are typically lazy and unmotivated. Worst of all, their stubbornness gets them to dig their heels in to not obey and become unmovable. What can parents do?
This is the second part of a discussion I started in episode #030. I continue that discussion of relating the brain of the horse with the human brain as the recent discovery of 4 distinct centers of the mammalian brain described by Dr Jill Bolte-Taylor in her book, “Whole Brain Living.” In the past, I had described these centers based on Hippocrates (about 400 BC) as Choleric, Melancholy, Sanguine and Phlegmatic. I have described these 4 primary personalities in my book, “The Ten Irrefutable Laws Of Horsemanship.” I now associate these personalities with the 4 sections of the brain in anatomical locations: Left Brain Thinking (Character one), Left Brain Limbic or Emotional (Character two), Right Brain Limbic or Emotional (Character three) and Right Brain Thinking (Character four). It is my hypothesis that humans in today's world live in the left side of the brain which is analytical and temporal (past and future, identity, judgmental) with poor connection with the right brain (connected to the present and the universe). The horse, on the other hand, has access to all four sections of the brain and while judging you can also amend that judgment based on the sincerity and integrity of the human before them. I include a simple way we can expand into the present moment and become an honest, three dimensional communicator with all horses, humans and everything in our lives. This is NOT hocus-pocus. It is based on anatomy of the brain and my use of this approach daily for the past decade. It allows me to connect with horses in 30 seconds, not 30 minutes or 30 days and hand float thousands of horses while medicating only 3 in every 100 I see. If you understand this real connection you will also be able to connect with the horses in your life in a more meaningful way. But it is YOU that has to change, not your horse.
Let me draw our attention to Proverbs 7:11. I anticipate a bit backlash, you know. Why? Personality questions might rise or the so called Zodiac Signs personality attribute questions might ensue. The Introverts, Extroverts and Ambiverts. The Sanguine, Choleric, Phlegmatic and Melancholic talk. Yeah yeah. I get it. Just because Science says you at this doesn't mean you cannot outgrow that identity. The bible said the woman was loud, boisterous and clamorous in contrast to the nature of the person led and built by God's word in the preceding verses. Notice that the preceding verses did not describe the person as calm, slow, cool, poise,or collected but definitely a person that lives according to scriptures written on the tablets of his/her heart. Verse 11, however, describes an individual carried away by exuberance and youthful flare. A person desired to eat till it's finished and done with. Someone willing to gather all and fly high

Listen in on how he was inspired to become an executive coach himself and discovered that the key to leadership is magnanimity.LinksEmail: tdumas@servusleadership.comWebsite: www.servusleadership.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/servusleadership/ Quotes “If anyone promises perfection, that's not possible, but promising love is something, I think, far greater.” “My goal is to serve the people around me in the best way that I possibly can.” “How one does anything is how one does everything.” TakeawaysChildhood IncidentsTim's grandfather taught him the value of faith, family, and football (in that order), and he hopes to be making as much of a difference to people as his grandfather did as a doctor. Influential Groups Tim was born into a church-going Catholic family, where praying together brought them closer. Playing football on his high school team taught him lessons in teamwork, trust, and work ethics.Entering his family business, Tim discovered a lot of support and love. At MacKay CEO Forums, he was inspired by founder Nancy MacKay's love that guides even difficult conversations in the workplace.Temperament and Personality InfluencesAccording to the ancient classification of temperament into four categories (sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic), Tim claims that he is 50% choleric (energetic, enthusiastic, and quick to take action) and 50% sanguine (thinking about people in every situation). However, being sanguine also means he aspires to please people, and he works to overcome that during decision-making. He tries to take time to sit in silence to contemplate his actions and uncover creativity and meaning instead of jumping into them quickly. Cultural EpiphaniesWhile at JAK's Beer Wine & Spirits, Tim was taken aback by one of his regional managers who challenged him with questions. However, he realized that the regional manager was different from him in a good way, asking questions that would never have occurred to Tim due to his temperament and personality, but that caused him to grow. Advice to an Employer Tim has a growth mindset and responds well to motivation. More Great Insights! Do personalities really matter? The non-surprising answer – absolutely. After discussion of the four main personality types and then revealing their own personalities, Dr. Kuba and Bethany reflect on the various ways that the four distinct dispositions have impacted the practice. They discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each type and the difficulty a practice owner might have when he or she fails to consider the impact of each staff member's personality. //Show hosts Bethany Petty and Dr. Reena Kuba dive into the following important topics: Utilizing the personality plus descriptions of Choleric, Melancholy, Sanguine, and Phlegmatic. The strengths and weaknesses of each are broken down into detail. What happens when a team is too weighted with one personality type? How should personalities impact our hiring decisions?
