Parachute Women: Marianne Faithfull, Marsha Hunt, Bianca Jagger, Anita Pallenberg, and the Women Behind the Rolling StonesDiscover the true story of the four women who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help shape and curate the image of The Rolling Stones—perfect for fans of Girls Like Us.The Rolling Stones have long been considered one of the greatest rock-and-roll bands of all time. At the forefront of the British Invasion and heading up the counterculture movement of the 1960s, the Stones' innovative music and iconic performances defined a generation, and fifty years later, they're still performing to sold-out stadiums around the globe. Yet, as the saying goes, behind every great man is a greater woman, and behind these larger-than-life rockstars were four incredible women whose stories have yet to be fully unpacked . . . until now.In Parachute Women, Elizabeth Winder introduces us to the four women who inspired, styled, wrote for, remixed, and ultimately helped create the legend of the Rolling Stones. Marianne Faithfull, Marsha Hunt, Bianca Jagger, and Anita Pallenberg put the glimmer in the Glimmer Twins and taught a group of strait-laced boys to be bad. They opened the doors to subterranean art and alternative lifestyles, turned them on to Russian literature, occult practices, and LSD. They connected them to cutting edge directors and writers, won them roles in art house films that renewed their appeal. They often acted as unpaid stylists, providing provocative looks from their personal wardrobes. They remixed tracks for chart-topping albums, and sometimes even wrote the actual songs. More hip to the times than the rockers themselves, they consciously (and unconsciously) kept the band current—and confident—with that mythic lasting power they still have today.Lush in detail and insight, and long overdue, Parachute Women is a group portrait of the four audacious women who transformed the Stones into international stars, but who were themselves marginalized by the male-dominated rock world of the late '60s and early '70s. Written in the tradition of Sheila Weller's Girls Like Us, it's a story of lust and rivalries, friendships and betrayals, hope and degradation, and the birth of rock and roll. Elizabeth Winder is the author of Marilyn in Manhattan: Her Year of Joy,and Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York, Summer 1953. Her work has appeared in the Chicago Review, Antioch Review, American Letters, and other publications. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, and earned an MFA in creative writing from George Mason University.Buy the book from Wellington Square Bookshop - https://www.wellingtonsquarebooks.com/book/9781580059589
On this very special encore episode of Add Passion and Stir, interior designer and philanthropist Charlotte Moss and Darren Walker, the former president of the Ford Foundation and the newly announced president of the National Gallery of Art, discuss the importance of ending child hunger. Moss selected No Kid Hungry to be the beneficiary of her book, Home: A Celebration . Home is an ode to Edith Wharton's The Book of the Homeless, which was a 1916 fundraiser to help refugees and children during WWI. Home features 120 artists, poets, chefs, designers, photographers, and writers offering personal reflections on the essence of home. Contributors include Drew Barrymore, Candice Bergen, Tory Burch, Seth Godin, Renee and John Grisham, Bianca Jagger, Annie Leibovitz, Jon Meacham, Bette Midler, Joyce Carol Oates, Al Roker, Gloria Steinem, Darren Walker, and Fanny and Alice Waters.“This is really philanthropy at its best, when people come together for a single cause and give of themselves - in essence sharing their strength - is what you're all about and what this book is all about,” says Moss. Walker was compelled to write the book's foreword. “It was a moment when we were all experiencing deep anguish in this country over the impacts of COVID which we immediately recognized as compounding the already deep inequality we have in this country… Charlotte used her privilege to raise awareness and consciousness of the conditions of poverty, particularly child poverty, which is the most difficult and pernicious poverty that we have in this country… Charlotte reminded us that there are far too many Americans who live without the dignity of shelter, of food, of nutrition, and particularly the most vulnerable among us, our children,” he says. All royalties from book sales support No Kid Hungry's essential mission to help end childhood hunger.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
They discuss links between underground and mainstream both generally and specific to 1977 NYC, consider the importance of celebrities to the Studio project, and interrogate the velvet rope. Not a good week for the Globalists, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bianca Jagger, and a host of celebrities tell Pope Francis to leave the Latin Mass alone. Is this why the Vatican is reportedly backing down from their “final solution” to cancel the Latin Mass? Plus, Viktor Orbán – the “fascist” bane of the Globalists' existence – transforms Hungary into the most pro-life/pro-family country in Europe. Are we sure we're not the baddies? Holy Catholic revival, Batman! -- 200,000 Catholic Hungarians demonstrate massive fidelity to the Faith of our Fathers in yet another Pentecost Pilgrimage. By the way, why is the former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick – one of the most notorious predators in Catholic history – being allowed to take his tapioca in “full communion” with the Vatican while the whistleblower, Archbishop Vigano, is declared excommunicated? Will this bizarre double standard be the undoing of the Church of Accompaniment? Debbie Harry defined iconic band Blondie's look. Chris Stein―her performing partner, lover, and lifelong friend―was its architect and defined its sound. Parallel Lines, their third album, catapulted to #1, sold 20 million copies, and launched singles like "Heart of Glass", "Hangin' On the Telephone," and "One Way or Another", providing the beat when Bianca Jagger and Halston danced at Studio 54 and the soundtrack to every 1970's punk-soundtracked romance. Chris Stein knows how to tell a story. Under A Rock is his nothing-spared autobiography. It's about the founding of the band, ascending to the heights of pop success, and the hazards of fortune. Famous names march through these pages―Warhol, Bowie, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and more-but you can get famous names anywhere. What you can't get anywhere else is a plunge into the moments that made a giant 1980's artistic sensation. This week, a conversation with iconic designer Norma Kamali. Recorded over Zoom from her office in Manhattan, we cover her 50-year career, from graduating from FIT with a degree in illustration to working for Northwest Airlines—which allowed her to fly to London on the weekends for only $29. It felt like a time capsule to hear her talk about the cultural revolution in London in the 1960s and how she would bring back pieces for friends, which led her to start a store, and eventually design her own pieces. Soon her designs were worn by Bianca Jagger, Bette Midler, and Cher. But at 29 Norma left her marriage, which meant walking away from the brand she'd quietly built with only $98 in her pocket. But starting over ultimately led her to create a brand with longevity and panache. From her unique sleeping bag coat design (worn by the doormen at Studio 54 and by those standing outside hoping it would increase their chances of getting in) to the now-iconic red swimsuit Farrah Fawcett wore on that famous poster, Norma has dressed generations. She's full of wisdom and perspective and gently gives me advice on everything from aging, to dating (she fell in love again ten years ago at 65), to how she views busyness—she says “the more you do, the more you can do.” We get into her thoughts on her industry's evolution and on upcoming generations. I hope I did her career and story justice in this conversation with a real icon. Behind every unforgettable space and every extraordinary experience is a certain je ne sais quoi. If anyone has an idea of what exactly that is, it's the hospitality impresario and Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager. For more than four decades, Schrager has been a defining cultural catalyst and beacon across industries, from hotels and nightlife, to art and architecture, to fashion and food, and beyond. Since the early 1980s, Schrager has devised and developed more than 20 ahead-of-the-curve hospitality properties, including the Public hotel (2017) in New York City and the Edition line of hotels, as well as, going further back, the Morgans (1982), the Paramount (1990), the Hudson (2000), and the Gramercy Park Hotel (2006) in New York; the Mondrian (1996) in Los Angeles; the Delano (1995) in Miami; St. Martins Lane and the Sanderson (both 1998) in London; and the Clift (2000) in San Francisco. Beyond designing for mere aesthetic appreciation, Schrager cultivates places with a soul and spirit all their own.On this episode—our 100th—Schrager discusses his tried-and-true design philosophies and definition of luxury today; his admiration for the visionary thinking of Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and Walt Disney; and the enduring aura of Studio 54.Special thanks to our Season 8 sponsor, Van Cleef & Arpels.Show notes: [00:33] Ian Schrager[02:54] Morgans Hotel[02:59] Studio 54[03:02] Steve Rubell[06:26] Edition Hotels[06:33] Arne Sorenson[12:44] Public Hotels[13:03] Paramount Hotel[13:29] The Royalton[14:45] Hudson Hotel[24:37] John Pawson[26:04] The Palladium[26:05] Arata Isozaki[33:24] “Studio 54” Documentary[42:41] Enchanted Garden[50:48] Bianca Jagger[50:51] Truman Capote[50:51] Andy Warhol[50:56] Issey Miyake[53:33] Paul Goldberger[01:03:01] Paperless Post

Pre-Loved Podcast is a weekly vintage fashion interview show, with guests you'll want to go thrifting with! For more Pre-Loved Podcast, subscribe to our Patreon! Today's episode is with Denise Wingate, the costume designer behind Daisy Jones & the Six! If you haven't seen it yet – run don't walk, the costuming is fabulous – Daisy Jones & the Six is about the rise and fall of a fictional 1970s rock band, based on the novel, written in rock documentary style, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. A Los Angeles native, Denise began her career designing costumes and touring with none other than The Bangles, before segueing into television costuming. Throughout her career, she's always prioritized working with vintage – and because of her true love for vintage fashion and music history, it's really clear that this project was an ultimate dream role for her. We talk about all this, and the incredible vintage looks in Daisy Jones & the Six, on today's show – let's just dive right in! DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [3:09] Denise moved to Hollywood at 16 and grew up attending new wave shows. [4:28] Denise goes on a world tour with the Bangles, working as their stylist. [8:51] Costume design is about developing a character through clothing, and Denise's process for Daisy Jones & the Six. [13:57] The inspiration for young Daisy Jones was a young Joni Mitchell, young Linda Ronstadt – and then she morphed into Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks when she becomes a rock star. [14:40] The inspiration for Camila Dunne was a young Ali MacGraw, and then she grows into Bianca Jagger in her rockstar wife era. [14:50] Suki Waterhouse's character, cool-girl keyboardist Karen, was inspired by Patti Smith, Joan Jett, and Suzie Quatro. [15:52] Staying true to fashion moments mentioned in the book, like Daisy's first recording session outfit, or the beaded kaftan she wears in the pool. [18:45] Denise estimates she had to pull about 1,500 looks for this show! [20:15] Her sourcing process for finding special vintage pieces for the show. [23:40] Daisy Jones' coat collection – that choice for the character, and Denise's favorites, including this one that she sourced in Paris. [26:11] Camilla's transformation into Bianca Jagger would not be complete without this leopard print dress from Pickwick Vintage Market. [28:32] Denise found a patchwork leather jacket from Gandalf the Wizard in Long Beach, which she used for Graham Dunne. [30:27] Denise found a North Beach leather whipstitch white suit that Karen wore for the Aurora cover shoot. [31:44] A lot of the jewelry on the show originally belonged to Denise's grandparents, including Daisy's squash blossom necklaces. [32:45] In the 70s, rockstars would have been wearing vintage from the 30s, 40s, and older, so Denise used those kinds of pieces in the show, too. [35:27] Daisy Jones' on-stage persona, and how they used costuming to bring that out. [36:50] The final on-stage look for Daisy Jones was a gold vintage Halston dress that they turned into a cape, and a 1930s crochet metallic dress underneath. [44:55] The beauty and creativity in re-use. [49:17] Shopping estate sales with her son, also a vintage shopper, in New Orleans. Introduction: Time: 0.10- 1.54 मई. We will talk about everything Met Gala. Body: Time : 1.45 - 8.26 नमस्कार,अदब सत्श्रीअकाल मैं हूँ Sahiba Khan और आप सुन रहे आपका favourite podcast - FYI यानी कि For Your Information. उसी का सीक्वल है इस साल का थीम - In America: An Anthology of Fashion, or “Gilded Glamour” Met Gala में people go all out. Well, दरअसल नहीं। This week, a conversation with iconic designer Norma Kamali. TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ NICKY SIANO # 078 - PART 2 When Steve Rubell opened Studio 54, he asked Nicky Siano to be one of its Resident Jocks, which he agreed, while remaining at The Gallery during the weekends. Nicky was DJing during Bianca Jagger's infamous Studio 54 birthday party, and was playing live while Bianca Jagger entered on a white horse which made all the newspapers the following day around the world. He was known for playing underground alternative music as opposed to the disco hits that were dominating the nightclub scene. Come listen to Nicky school us on how it all began from pre disco, how he survived through The Drugs, The HIV Era, the friends that he lost along the way and the music changing constantly. He also touches on his comeback in the 1990s after leaving the music behind since 1981. It's a very moving episode.

Contributors include Drew Barrymore, Candice Bergen, Tory Burch, Seth Godin, Renee and John Grisham, Bianca Jagger, Annie Leibovitz, Jon Meacham, Bette Midler, Joyce Carol Oates, Al Roker, Gloria Steinem, Darren Walker, and Fanny and Alice Waters. “This is really philanthropy at its best, when people come together to for single cause and give of themselves - in essence sharing their strength - is what you're all about and what this book is all about,” says Moss. All royalties from book sales support No Kid Hungry's essential mission to help end childhood hunger. *HEADSPIN* Yes, yes y'all and we don't stop. This week we explore the roots and fundamentals of Hip-Hop and Electro with the incredible boundary breaking force of nature that is Man Parrish. Given his nickname 'Man' by none other than Andy Warhol Man Parrish has been a part of the New York club scene since the days of Studio 54, he partied with Halston, Bianca Jagger, Madonna and countless others. His groundbreaking musical style gave electro just the jolt it needed to reach the mainstream with his seminal cut 'Hip-Hop/Bee Bop'. He broke into the UK Top 10 with the Hi-Energy ode to the gay club scene 'Male Stripper' reaching Number 4 in 1986. He has composed music for the ballet and been inducted into the Museum of Modern Arts permanent collection. What you really need to know though is that this is one hell of an interview. Prepare to clutch your pearls and pick your jaw off the floor when listening to the incredible stories of Man Parrish. In keeping with this Hip-Hop theme we interview the incredible DeeJay Random from the scratch collective the Steel Devils and ask him about the actual work involved in becoming a true scratch DJ. Random is an engaging, salt of the earth music lover who has *done the work* so you don't have too. If you have ever wondered what it takes to become a scratch DJ he is here to spill the beans. Before all that Anne & Eamon celebrate Annes good news as she finally breaks into the A list with a residency at BBC6Music. This episode contain a lot of bad language and descriptions of a very difficult childhood so please be prepared for some shocking revelations.

Today is the 76th Birthday of Bianca Jagger. She wore a red off-the-shoulder Halston dress and has been incorrectly reported that she rode a white horse into Studio 54 at her 30th birthday party. Technically, she walked into the discotheque with Mick Jagger and once inside, there happened to be a horse. Why do people even bother to celebrate birthdays after that? With all her recent humanitarian work, the world is a better place that she is in it. This episode is also available as a blog post. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/waldina/message

In our second Michael Gray episode, the noted Dylan authority exults in Bob’s legendary 1984 David Letterman appearance: “he breaks through the oleaginous smear that is American television and creates an authentic moment”. He goes on to describe “the fairly heavy occasion” backstage at Earl’s Court in 1978 with his young son, who bums a biro off Bianca Jagger to seek Bob’s forbidden (left-handed) autograph. Countless tracks and albums are measured up, praised or dismissed, including the recent Sinatra years: “horrible finger snapping”. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear unvarnished opinions and future plans from the man who changed the face of Dylan criticism. Michael Gray is a world authority on the work of Bob Dylan. His Song & Dance Man: The Art of Bob Dylan, published in 1972, was the first full-length critical study of Dylan’s work. Its massive third edition, Song & Dance Man III (2000), is an essential part of any Dylan fan’s bookshelf. Michael's vast Bob Dylan Encyclopedia (2006) won the International Association of Music Libraries’ C.B. Oldman Prize. Another major work, Hand Me My Travelin’ Shoes: In Search of Blind Willie McTell, was published in 2007.

How do you make your product or service irresistible? With tens of thousands of similar products or services in the market, can you use simple techniques to create a great offer? This episode shows you two psychological methods that we can't turn down?as humans. We love both the buffet and the specialty. No matter if you're a small business or a big one, you can use these techniques and increase your product and service sales. In this episode Sean talks about Part 1: Buffet vs. Specialty Principle Part 2: How Studio 54 put out a buffet of fantasy Part 3: What does this mean for you when you’re selling a product or service? Right click here and ‘save as’ to download this episode to your computer. What Are The Factors in Play Behind An Irresistible Offer: Part 1 of 3 Imagine you’re Frank Sinatra. No matter where you go on the planet, people know of you. Doors open magically for you. People can’t help but gape in wonder as you show up at an event. So imagine a place where the great Frank Sinatra can’t enter. It’s inconceivable, isn’t it? And yet it happened. When Frank showed up at Studio 54, he was turned away. So was the president of Cyprus, the King of Saudi Arabia’s son, Roberta Flack, and several young Kennedys. Even the famous movie star, Jack Nicholson was unable to enter on opening night. Studio 54 was like no other place in New York From the moment it opened its 11,000-square-foot dance floor, it was packed with celebrities dying to get in. Olivia Newton-John, Michael Jackson, Woody Allen, Andy Warhol, Elizabeth Taylor, Dolly Parton, Mick Jagger, Tine Turner—you get the idea—they were just some of the visitors to Studio 54. Almost every night since it opened its doors on April 26, 1977, it was packed to its capacity—almost 2000 people a night. If you considered yourself cool, you wanted to get into Studio 54—but there was no guarantee you’d get in. There was someone stopping the flow… This someone was at the door Studio 54 night after night. He’d show up at the door at 11:30 pm and get on a step stool above the crowd. He’d pick who could get into the club that night—and who was to be turned away. His name is Steve Rubell, part-owner and the person who made sure the Studio was one of the most irresistible places in New York! So what made Studio 54 so irresistible, when there were so many cool places in New York at the time? And what makes any product or service irresistible, even without star power? Let’s take a look at three core elements. Buffet vs. Specialty Exclusivity Build Up Buffet vs. Specialty Principle If you were to go to Lynda.com you’d be faced with a buffet. On Lynda.com there are hundreds of tutorials on software, business and creative skills. In 2004 alone, there were over 100 courses on the site. And that course number has gone up exponentially. For the past few years, Lynda.com been adding more than 18 hours of content, almost every single day of the year. That means you’re likely to run into thousands of hours of tutorials topics such as Photoshop, computer animation, 3-D animation, photography—in all about 224,413 tutorials to date. That’s a huge buffet, don’t you agree? And as humans, we’re primed for buffets. We love the “eat all you want” concept and it’s even better if the “food” is of an extremely high quality. This means that a potential client of Lynda.com can access all their content for just $250 a year. Immediately you see why this kind of deal is incredibly irresistible. If you decide to learn a program like InDesign, you can easily do so, because there are at least a dozen courses on InDesign alone. If you want to learn to work with WordPress, hey, there’s a mountain of video instruction already in place. No matter where you look, the volume and quality of content tantalises you. Which brings us to our first principle—the buffet principle If you’re offering your clients an enormous amount of something, they’re instantly drawn towards it, whether they can consume it or not. When given a buffet option, few of us can stop ourselves from feeling the need to buy the product or service. When you look at 5000bc.com, you get a buffet option 5000bc is the membership site at Psychotactics.com. The moment you get to the sales page at 5000bc, there’s a feeling of a ton of information at 5000bc. There are cumulatively, hundreds of articles on topics such as copywriting, web design, branding, lead generation etc. Which is why most clients tend to sign up to the membership site at 5000bc. It’s more than likely they’ve been a subscriber at Psychotactics for a while, bought and read The Brain Audit, possibly even bought some other books from Psychotactics—and then they’re exposed to 5000bc. And the buffet concept kicks in. At $259 a year (remarkably similar to Lynda.com), clients can get not only a ton of curated content, but also have the opportunity to ask me dozens of questions—some of which are answered within hours, if not minutes. This concept of a buffet becomes impossible to resist, and has been the main factor in attracting clients to 5000bc since it started way back in 2003. Studio 54 put out a buffet of fantasy The magazine, Vanity Fair, describes it as the “giddy epicenter of 70s hedonism, a disco hothouse of beautiful people, endless cocaine and every kind of sex. Once you were within the velvet ropes, you were exposed to raunchiness, debauchery and creativity of an unimaginable scale. “It felt like you were going to a new place every night,” says Kevin Haley, then a model, now a Hollywood decorator. “And you were, because they changed it all the time for the parties. Remember the Dolly Parton party? It was like a little farm with bales of hay and live farm animals—pigs and goats and sheep. The designer Karl Lagerfield’s party: an 18th century paty with busboys dressed up as courtiers, powdered wigs and then—a live reggae concert at 3 am in the morning. Another night might bring Bianca Jagger popping out of a birthday cake. Some nights might bring in a sea of glitter, another night Lady Godiva on a horse—or Hell’s Angels on Harleys on the dance floor. Ironically, the buffet-concept represents just one way to create an irresistible offer. The other way is the exact opposite—where you take away everything and create a specialty offer. Remember Lynda.com where you get over 200,000 tutorials? Remember the price? Yes, it’s $250 a year. And yet, at Psychotactics we sell an InDesign course that’s $269. It’s not an entire course in InDesign. It’s not even a partial course. All the course promises is ONE thing. It shows you how to create an e-book in InDesign in less than an hour. If you were to learn a course in InDesign, you’re likely to take at least 18 hours—and that’s the first time around. It’s likely you’d have to go through the entire course (or at least part of the course) a second time. And then when you’re ready to create your snazzy e-book, you have to work out which part of InDesign will help you get the result you seek. It’s not inconceivable to spend 40-50 hours just to get your e-book going. Now the specialty offer makes a huge difference to the client Instead of wading through hours of material, they get right to the point. And this specialty concept applies to more than just courses or training. A phone. Most of us want smartphones that have all the bells and whistles. But what if you want just a cell phone that makes calls? The Doro Phone Easy 626 does just what you’d expect a cell phone to do—it makes calls. Like the InDesign course, it’s not meant for everyone, but just a smaller audience that finds it irresistible. What does this mean for you when you’re selling a product or service? It means you can have your cake and eat it too. When we sell the book, The Brain Audit, it is akin to a buffet (like most books). It has several chapters and spans 180 pages. Yet, elements of The Brain Audit are then isolated. For instance, one of the elements, uniqueness, is a complete course. Another element, testimonial is a 100+ page book. Clients who buy The Brain Audit are extremely satisfied with the content and applications. However, when they want to go deeper on an isolated topic, they will buy the other products as well. Studio 54 catered to almost 2000 people a night—yet there was isolation in place If you were part of the select few, you could go down to the basement. The basement was essentially a storage area connected by zigzagging passageways. The in-crowd was in the basement, away from the party upstairs, mostly talking through the night and drinking bottles of a vodka brand— Stolichnaya. Even if you’re no Studio 54, you can have a smörgåsbord of goodies while at the same time putting a velvet rope over other product or services. And since we’re talking about buffets, a restaurant could have the buffet, while at the same time offering a special meal for just a tiny audience. A website designer could put together a website with all the bells and whistles—then create a service or product that was very niche and hence, irresistible. To be irresistible, you don’t have to choose between buffet and specialty items In reality a specialty item is easier to put together (because it’s less stuff, rather than more). In the grand scheme of things, it’s also easier to market as it has a clear point of focus. While we’ll look at all three elements: buffet/specialty, exclusivity and build up, it’s important to note that specialty is a great starting point. So start small—and charge more. This takes us to the second element: Exclusivity. Have a look here—for the continuation on How To Make Your Product or Service Irresistible: Part 2 and 3.
This year's Annual Law Lecture was delivered by Bianca Jagger and is titled: 'Why we must defend the Human Rights Act'. The Conservative Party's 2015 manifesto commits the government to repeal the Human Rights Act and replace it with a 'British Bill of Rights'. Bianca Jagger discusses why she feels these proposals would substantially weaken the power of individuals to bring cases against the government and could sever the link between the UK and the European Court of Human Rights. Replacing the Human Rights Act and with a diluted national 'Bill of Rights' would jeopardise some of the safeguards that hold our government to account. Furthermore, as claims of threats to national security increase, it is essential to ensure there are adequate protections against the expansion of state power and surveillance. About Bianca Jagger: In addition to being President and Chief Executive of her Human Rights Foundation, Bianca Jagger holds the offices of Council of Europe Goodwill Ambassador; IUCN Bonn Challenge Ambassador; Senior Fellow, Centre for International Governance Innovation and Member of the Executive Director's Leadership Council of Amnesty International USA. The New York “Observer” called “Allegiance” “fresh,” “original,” and “passionate.” And the play’s co-writer happens to be someone who worked in Portland for 20 years before returning to New York and Broadway: Marc Acito. For our ongoing series “What Are You Looking At,” we invited James Engberg and Eric Kilgore to see the show. You might know them from a theater podcast and XRAY-FM show they hosted called “5 Useless Degrees & A Bottle of Scotch.”“Offending the Audience" runs through Nov. 22 at Action/Adventure Theater.Amazon Goes Old School With Brick And MortarLast week, while we were whooping it up at Wordstock, book lovers in Seattle were treated to the latest high-tech, new-fangled idea in e-commerce, cooked up by Amazon: the opening of a store. Rose Hartman, whose work has been published in Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and Vanity Fair, has been granted the kind of celebrity access in her 35+year career that most photographers can only dream to have. The "social historian" shot Jerry Hall and Diana Vreeland in the seventies, Jackie Onassis in the eighties, and Anna Wintour (smiling!) at Christie's in the nineties, to name a few of her widely circulated images. In 2012, a solo exhibit of photos from her book, INCOMPARABLE WOMEN of STYLE, opened at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her latest book, INCOMPARABLE COUPLES,(ACC Editions) features more than 150 photographs, including the famous shot of Bianca Jagger kissing Mick Jagger at Studio 54 for her birthday party in 1977. Her photos have been exhibited at the Whitney Museum, the Museum of the City of NY, Experience Music Project, Staley-Wise Gallery, the Library of Performing Arts, the Dia Foundation, Serge Sorokko Gallery, the Dean Project, Pucci Gallery, the Ravestijn Gallery in Amsterdam (selected list). Halvnakna kroppar i trans, Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Truman Capote, dansande nunnor...
