This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Fr. John Burns and Sr. Miriam James Heidland to talk about their ministry called Friends of the Bridegroom. Their ministry seeks to renew the Church through the healing, renewal, and expansion of women's religious life in America. They also discuss the nuptial meaning of every vocation, the unique beauty women bring to the Church, and how in every state of life, we are all called to live for another.   Key Points: Priests and religious play a vital and unique role in the health and healing of the Church A Church without religious sisters is like a family without a mother No matter our state of life, we are not meant to be living for ourselves. Our hearts are made to be lived for another  Friends of the Bridegroom seeks to bring God's glory forth by awakening a movement in the Church for the restoration of the Bride. When the Bride radiates, everyone understands their place within it.  Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are three ways we can offer a penitential sacrifice for the renewal of the Church.   Resources: Friends of the Bridegroom Website Healing Through Forgiveness with Sr. Miriam and Fr. We also talk about the joys of living in covenant with the Lord, the heartache we should experience when our hearts wander, and the beauty of giving ourselves totally to Him out of love.     Heather's One Thing - Happy 80th birthday to her dad! Jake and Bob walk step-by-step through the practicals of the healing process using the Immanuel Approach. This episode is packed with practical content that you'll want to revisit again and again.  Note to listeners: there was an issue with Jake's audio in this episode and we are working to fix this for future recordings. Thanks for your patience.   Key Quote: [In the Immanuel process], the goal of healing is connection with God - Jake   Key Points: The disposition of our hearts and receptivity to grace How self awareness helps us respect the process Our interpretation of events matter - do we fear our triggers or see them as God wanting to heal us? A complete walk-through of the steps in the healing process, based on the Immanuel Approach (see the practical application) We can have pre-verbal memories that are attached to wounds Types of barriers: vows, judgements, lack of forgiveness, unconfessed sin Renunciation of vows and the announcing of God's truth/ blessing   Practical Application: Draw your attention to God. Recall a positive memory of connection with God or others and allow it to overflow in an expression of gratitude to Him. This is called the ‘Immanuel Moment.' Now, bring to mind a moment of recent distress or disconnection. What is it that you're feeling in that moment? What are you ‘believing in the feelings'?   Ask Jesus to show you the root of the distress; don't try to figure it out yourself. Identify the painful experience and corresponding belief. Ask the Lord to reveal what He desires for you to know.  If you begin to feel ‘stuck' in the process, there is likely a barrier present. Address the barrier using a corresponding technique such as renunciation. Test the fruit: go back to the original memory and original distress and sense if there is peace. If difficult emotion is still present, go back and repeat the relevant steps.     Resources:  The Immanuel Approach Anatomy of a Wound (Restore the Glory series) Be Healed, Dr. Bob Schuchts (book) and the seven signs of healing Be Restored, Dr. Bob Schuchts (book) and appendix with healing prayer scripts Be Transformed, Dr. Bob Schuchts (book)  Healing content on the Hallow App with Dr. Bob Schuchts and Sr. Miriam James Heidland, SOLT Healing the Whole Person (retreat)     Connect with Restore the Glory: Instagram: @restoretheglorypodcast  Twitter: @RestoreGloryPod Facebook: Restore the Glory Podcast Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now! Ready or not, here comes Lent. Some of us are READY for it. Some of us hate it. But most of us know that we're supposed to be transformed by Lent. So we give up our alarm clocks, we take on extra prayer time, we put away our coffee maker for forty days (well, some of you do, I haven't done that one yet since my sacrifice isn't supposed to be everyone around me's sacrifice). But what if Lent wasn't about giving up our chocolate, or our wine, or our Dr. Peppers. Don't get me wrong - those are good sacrifices (especially for me!) and practicing mortification is important. What if Lent this year is a season of engaging the things that are deeper in our own hearts - and what would Lent look like for you if it were a time of healing those deeper parts of your heart? Today, I'm sitting down with Sr. Miriam James Heidland. She's recently written a guided Lenten prayer journal called “Restore,” to help you stop trying to go around, underneath, or over the Cross, but to instead go through with Christ this Lenten season. If you're longing for a season of healing and you're ready to move past telling Jesus what you're going to give up for Lent and truly listening to his invitation into the deeper parts of your heart that he wants to encounter with you, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: Why Lent is the perfect time to engage the deeper parts of our hearts and stories How to grow in trust and courage to enter into the desert with Jesus this Lent What to do if you're frustrated with your own journey of healing What the aches we experience while fasting can teach us about ourselves The concrete ways you can give alms this Lent that goes beyond “giving and going on your way” Sr. Miriam's recommendations for going deeper into healing after the Lenten season is done How Sr. Miriam lives out her feminine genius as a religious sister inviting others into deeper healing and conversion of heart Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: “Restore” by Sr. Miriam (use the code RESTORE when purchasing from Ave Maria Press for free shipping!) I am so excited to share this conversation with you all. I had the chance to sit down with my dear friend, and author Dr. Bob Schuchts on the fundamental truth that we all need healing. Dr. Bob is the founder of the John Paul II Healing Center, and is a nationally renowned speaker. Bob is the author of Be Healed: Encountering the Powerful Love of Jesus in Your Life, and Be Transformed: The Healing Power of the Sacraments. His beautiful wisdom into the human soul and the importance of healing for all of us is profound. We often believe the lie that only people who have experienced outward "trauma" need to look at and address healing. However, Dr. Bob and his team do a beautiful job of shedding light on the fact that living in a sinful world has guaranteed that we have all been wounded and are all in need of deeper healing. This is an invitation to go deep with Dr. Bob and to prayerfully consider whether or not our Lord is inviting you to greater healing, just as he healed the crippled man who lay by the healing waters in Bethesda for 38 years. As Sr. Miriam James Heidland often says "Wounds that aren't transformed are transmitted!" Mic drop, and powerful, yet on the flip side there is beauty and hope knowing that the "wounds that are transformed and healed then lead to healing that is transmitted!"Blessings friends!Check out the link below for more information on Dr. Bob's healing ministry: http://jpiihealingcenter.org/

We discuss what it looks like for women to form each other in community so that we can all live our dignity as daughters made in the image and likeness of God. We discuss milestone experiences in a woman's life and the necessity of journeying through these seasons with other women. We pray this week you would continue to become the sister God created you to be! Be sure to subscribe to the Abiding Together Podcast on YouTube to watch our video podcasts! Sister Miriam's one thing -  The Advent series Adore: A Guided Advent Journal for Prayer and Mediation with Fr. John Burns from Ave Maria Press. Check out Fr. Which women walked you through milestone experiences in your life and how did that impact your experience of these seasons? Are there experiences you had to figure out on your own?  How have times of isolation impacted the guidance and sisterhood you want to provide for women who may be a season behind you in life? How have women friendships and relationships been modeled for you throughout life?  Where is God inviting you to take initiative to cast a new vision of sisterhood? Journal Questions: Ask yourself, "Am I the kind of friend, am I the kind of sister that I would like in my life?" Take some time to reflect on your answer and why or why not? Ask the Lord to reveal where you need to grow to be a better sister. Ask the Lord to reveal the beautiful things about women who are sisters alongside of us. If you can, reach out to say thank you in a specific way. If you feel you are lacking this authentic sisterhood, take an inventory of where you are and what you are longing for. Ask yourself, “What can I do to move this one step forward in creating or finding sisterhood right now?” Quotes to Ponder: “In all these areas a greater presence of women in society will prove most valuable, for it will help to manifest the contradictions present when society is organized solely according to the criteria of efficiency and productivity, and it will force systems to be redesigned in a way which favors the processes of humanization which mark the civilization of love.” Pope Saint John Paul II, Letter to Women  Scripture for Lectio Divina At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.  In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!  But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.  Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” And Mary proclaimed: My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—  holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm ;He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.  He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever,  just as he promised our ancestors.  Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home. - Luke 1:39-56 This episode is sponsored by Ave Maria Press.  “Through these uniquely beautiful reflections, you will encounter the quiet, safety, and rest of the hearts of Mary and Joseph, joining in their preparation for the birth of our Savior. You are warmly invited on the journey.” - Sr. Miriam James Heidland, S.O.L.T. Of all the seasons of the year, Advent offers us perhaps the clearest sense of adventure and journey. It is a season for resetting our horizon, reframing our movement toward fullness in Christ. And even though Advent is brief, it is filled with spiritual riches. Yet, because Advent falls during a busy time of year, we often rush over or even miss the treasures God places before us in the Church. In Adore: A Guided Advent Journal for Prayer and Mediation, popular author and speaker Fr. John Burns and illustrator Valerie Delgado of Pax.Valerie will help you reclaim the sacred sense of longing and joyful hope at the heart of Advent  through reflections, art, prayers, and journaling, perfect for both individual and group use. Topics include evangelization as declaring the lordship of Jesus in the culture, which includes both a positive and negative dimension; and the wider responsibility of the Christian community to provide a safe place of love and affirmation for the sake of healing others in their woundedness.
