In this eye-opening episode, Hailey Beard of Hailey Beard Events joins host and CWP COO, Krisy Thomas, for a powerful conversation about the often-overlooked ethics of being a wedding day assistant. Hailey brings a unique perspective as both a Certified Wedding Planner and someone who has assisted more than 15 planning companies throughout her career. The conversation dives deep into the ethics of being a wedding day assistant—particularly the delicate balance of supporting another planner's brand while navigating today's social media-driven landscape. Hailey shares candid insights about what it truly means to show up as an extension of someone's business, emphasizing that "when you agree to assist a lead planner, you're committing to supporting their business and their clients, not for personal gain."Together, we unpack the common misconceptions and challenges that arise when these boundaries aren't clearly established. From photographers accidentally tagging assistants rather than lead planners, to the confusion created when assistants post wedding content on their personal business accounts, these scenarios affect everyone involved—especially couples who may wonder who actually planned their wedding. The most valuable takeaway? Understanding that being an exceptional assistant isn't measured by social media visibility or recognition, but by how effectively you support both the couple and lead planner. We cover practical "social media nay-nays" that every wedding professional should know, including never posting surprise elements before they've happened, respecting unplugged ceremony requests, and understanding privacy concerns for high-profile clients.Whether you're a seasoned planner building your team, a new assistant navigating industry etiquette, or somewhere in between, this conversation provides actionable guidance for maintaining professionalism and integrity in every aspect of wedding work. From helping her mother with wedding henna applications as a child to becoming a Certified Wedding Planner, Certified Educator, and the proud Owner of Big Guava Events, Rima Shah's journey reflects the vibrant evolution of cultural celebrations in America. In this episode, Rima joins host Krisy Thomas for a rich and insightful conversation exploring the dynamic, intricate world of South Asian weddings.Rima reveals how these multi-day festivities require meticulous attention to detail—navigating religious ceremonies, family traditions, and personal touches that reflect couples' bicultural identities. She candidly shares how proper education transformed her approach, giving her the confidence to build a thriving business despite initial family skepticism about her career path. What truly sets South Asian weddings apart are the "mini events within the grand event," each requiring precise timing and coordination. Rima's passionate description of traditional elements like Mehndi applications and dhol drummers alongside contemporary touches offers listeners a masterclass in cultural celebration planning. Her unexpected story about managing a lighting-triggered medical emergency reminds professionals about the importance of thorough preparation.Perhaps most touching is Rima's reflection on becoming a permanent part of her clients' families—the wedding planner who gets invited to international vacations and becomes the go-to professional for multiple family celebrations. In this episode, Jamie, Heather and Ash discuss:Bringing your furry best friend in one of the most important days of your life - your wedding dayLogistical challenges when bringing in a pup for a wedding day Some challenges with people as a wedding planner and dog attendantThe downsides to being a “Director of Belly Rubs” (if any!) Key Takeaways:Our pets are part of our family and the meaningfulness of the wedding increases if our furry best friends are included and taken care of during the wedding dayBeing a dog attendant in weddings is mostly balancing energy levels. Wedding days are high energy, super fun and stressful. The dogs are often feeding off the energy that the humans are giving off. Make sure that somebody trustworthy and reliable is always attending your dog when at weddings. As a wedding planner, remember that if a couple includes a dog in their wedding, that's probably because their dog is very special to them and thus they deserve a special kind of service. "This isn't like a ‘tuck and roll, fido gets out of the car, ‘bye, have a great wedding day'' situation. Explicit Language Warning: Regina's words get a little colorful at times, but they say swearing is a sign of intelligence!Regina Burrus, owner of Weddings by Regina Marie and co-host of this podcast, is a Certified Wedding Planner and Coordinator based out of Waterbury, Connecticut. This was a special episode where we turned the tables on the interviewer, and to do this, we invited Paulo and Irsa of John Paulo Films back to guest host with Cate! In our conversation, we talked all about the invisible benefits of hiring a wedding planner, the 'why' behind the phrase, 'you get what you pay for,' and how Regina's job as a nurse impacts (and is impacted by) her role as a wedding planner. As always, Regina brought energy, humor, and great stories to our discussion of weddings. It was such a treat to have her in the spotlight for once! We got to hear more of her backstory (spoiler: we learn Regina was a self-described outcast Goth in high school), and she let us in on *truly* behind-the-scenes horror stories that made us laugh and cringe all at the same time. She talks about how she discovered who her ideal clients are, and she has excellent advice for people planning their wedding, and specifically those who are thinking of hiring a wedding planner. What stands out about this conversation, however, is Regina's dedication to her clients' vision, her integrity as a wedding vendor and professional, and her honesty, describing how experience is hard-earned and worthy of value and merit.
