Welcome back to the Cape Fear Rundown. This week, we talk to Ben about New Hanover County's ever-increasing budget, then Rachel about her latest on CFCC, and finally, we meet WHQR's new News Intern, James Watson.

Less than a year after he was appointed, Ray Funderburk was ousted from the Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees. In his brief time on the board, he stepped out of line three times, starting with his vote against President Jim Morton's raise — the only dissenting vote. On this episode, a look at the trial to remove him and what we've learned in the aftermath.

I was fortunate to be in Florida with some family during Central Florida Comic Con, which was happening not too far from where I was staying. Aaron Harris and David Modders from the Star Wars Reactions podcast are from that neck of the woods and were going to be there, so I was able to break away for a few hours and not only catch up with them, but meet Topps artist Daniel Govar and Allen Grimes who are from that area as well. This was the 5th CFCC and it was held at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida the weekend of 21st and 22nd. Coach Ponton used to be on the Men's side at CFCC, but has just made the transition over to the Women's program. We have a great discussion about how community colleges can be a great option for many prospects. We talk about how his program looks to reload talent way more often than a traditional 4-year school. Lastly we focus on students who shouldn't be so quick to dismiss going to a 2-year program and transferring to their desired school later on. On this episode: Over the last three years, rumors have circulated, alleging a toxic workplace at CFCC under the administration of President Jim Morton. In early 2020, WECT published a report with on-the-record allegations, but it seems little has changed. Now, new reporting from WHQR's Rachel Keith goes deeper than ever into issues at the college.
