In the third hour, Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes were joined by play-by-play announcer Adam Amin to preview the Bears-Lions game in Chicago on Sunday and the Bulls-Spurs game in San Antonio on Friday. Amin also discussed the Bulls' three-game winning streak without star guard Zach LaVine, who will miss the next three to four weeks in order to treat his right foot inflammation.  Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic then joined the show to preview the Chicago-Detroit game. He also discussed Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy defending his screen-heavy game plan in Chicago's 12-10 win over Minnesota in Week 12 and more. Later, Bernstein and Holmes reacted to Lakers star LeBron James making NBA history in just 23 minutes in the team's win against Pelicans on Thursday.

So this was me back on the airwaves on Tues night(15/11/22)..for my fortnightly jaunt into everything D3EP. For this one I went crate diggin' again for part 2 of the ripped vinyl sessions. On a slightly different tip, we visited some of the tracks that I grew my club career on back in the early nineties, crossing the boundaries of Early French and US jazz influenced house through to Chicago/Detroit techno. Mason Paine: So tell me, what are some of the top trends, that happened in June? Justin Burr: Well, let's say, you know, let's, let's not call a spade a spade. June's best month in the year, I would say, you know, I was birthed. We got the summer solstice it's summ-ery. Everybody's running around. But there's a lot of good stuff that happened as well. Outside of those things. Beyonce, Drake dropped some new tunes and admittedly, I liked them both. Justin Burr: I honestly didn't even realize, I guess I wasn't really paying attention, but a couple hours ago I listened to both of their songs. So, Drake dropped an actual actually dropped a new album, but they're leading, Drake's leading song is sticky and it's great, man. I love Drake. It's a good song. And then Beyonce also dropped a song called break my soul, which everybody's accrediting with like the resurgence of house music and the fact that she's like capturing these like Chicago Detroit style, like house music roots and implemented them into her song, which it's a great song. I'm not gonna credit her with resurgence house music, cuz I don't think house music really went anywhere, but the songs are good. Have you listened? Mason Paine: Personally I have not, but I have heard rumors that Drake's album is just trash and I was hoping you listened to it. I'm surprised you liked it. I heard a lot of people are like, oh, it's it doesn't sound like anything that he was doing before. And I'm thinking, well, isn't that an artist to explore and experiment with their future stuff. Justin Burr: I think that people are just haters. Honestly, I think that the fun thing to do in 2022 is just to say that everything sucks and like everything that put people put out there, any like large artist put something out, I feel like people's knee jerk reactions say it sucks. I haven't listened the whole album, but the, the song sticky is sick. Justin Burr: I was jamming on it for sure. And I just like Drake quite a bit. And I think he's super unique and the production style is awesome. And the beat is really cool. I haven't explored the entire album, but sticky. Sticky is a good one. I would pop it on as, Beyonce song as well. It's a very good summer happy vibes, pop it on sip and rose get in the sun. It's the whole thing. Mason Paine: Now, besides that another fun thing that happened this month was the NBA finals. I know you watched it cuz I watched it. What'd you think of it? Justin Burr: I know we're big NBA fans. You know, obviously I love the caliber of basketball that the golden state warriors bring night in and night out. Steph and Klay and mostly Steph is just so fun to watch. I mean, he's just such an incredible player and, and the shooting style that he's brought to the NBA, I was sad cause I'm not a warrior fan to see them take it all. But I'm also not a Celtics fan. I just wanted to go to game seven. Justin Burr: So, you know, I was roomed for the Celtics and game six. Credit to the warriors, man, they are just so insane. And the fact that they were just not on anybody's radar, leading into the season and then have fairly dominant NBA finals, like kudos to them, stoked up for them. I mean, happy, happy for Steph and, and just the, the legacy he solidifying for himself. So it was, it was awesome.

[paypal-donation] George Throckmorton is one of the most amazing police officers in the world.  Last year I talked to him about his role in the Mark Hofmann forgeries and bombings.  In this first episode, we'll get acquainted with him, and learn how he became a forgery expert.  Of course, we will talk about the Mark Hofmann forgeries and murders, but we will also briefly discuss one of his first forgery cases in Ogden, Utah.  The Hi-Fi Shop murders are well-known in Utah because a few robbers tortured and killed customers while robbing an Ogden store called the Hi-Fi Shop. It turns out that forgery was involved in that case! https://youtu.be/nPMJImQWyM8 GT:  I don't know how many of my listeners are familiar with a Hi-Fi Murders as they were known, but there were some criminals that tortured some people and killed them. It was pretty terrible. George:  Ironically that case, a significant part of that was due to handwriting. GT:  Really? Oh, I didn't know that. George: Again, we could go into that and I don't want to take a lot of time because that's not the emphasis. GT:  I'll have to come back. We'll have to talk about that. George: It's worth talking about that.  The significance was there was a homicide up there before the Hi-Fi Shop Murders, there was a homicide involving in airman from Hill Air Force Base and there was an auto theft ring going on out of Hill Air Force Base and they would steal cars and get an airman that was being released and asked him if he wanted to earn some extra money and he would drive the car back to the Chicago/Detroit area so he would get paid. And he was actually transporting stolen cars. But they didn't know it. ... George: In order for the cars to go back east, they had to have two sets of keys and Pierre can only find one set of keys. So, he went out to the base and got a duplicate set of keys made. He had to sign for that. I actually was able to attach his signature to request for the extra set of keys on that investigation when the Hi-Fi Shop Murders happened. So, we had been investigating that already and he was a suspect in that murder. We will talk more about how George became a document examiner.  Check out our conversation….. Tell us about your selection. How did these tracks have an impact on your later doings? A: I was a bit overwhelmed at first by the concept of this mix actually, there is so much amazing music that I wanted to include. The more I thought about it though it started to make sense to focus on my time in New York, before I started making music and before I moved to Berlin. I move to New York in January 1994 to attend photography school. When I moved there I went alone and didn’t know a single person in the city, seems kind of crazy now thinking about it but at the time it seemed totally rational. By March 94 I bought my first turntables/mixer and started buying a lot of records. NYC at the time had some great record stores and I lived within walking distance to some of the best ones. The music I was discovering from 1994 - 2002 really formed the foundation of my style and I still play most of these tracks on the mix to this day. There are a quite a few tracks that are “pre” 94 that I came across in shops, some gems that I might have heard on a mix tape or remember from some Chicago/Detroit party. “We Are Phuture” and “Heat It Up” where Chicago classics while “Lyot”, “Glob” and “The Groove” where Detroit bombs. I felt it was really important to include those as I didn’t really find them until I was in NYC. While I was selecting tracks for the mix I was having a hard time editing the selection down so I came up with a “test” for each track… “Does it give me chills”? This simple criteria made it really easy to cut my track listing down from more than sixty to the nineteen I used on the mix. I have listened to the mix a few times since finishing it and I feel like it’s a really accurate window into where I came from musically. There is a common thread of spooky weirdness that still runs through the music I make and play today. Looking back on this track list I feel really lucky to have been able to experience parties in Chicago and Detroit at such an influential moment in electronic music. The music I heard at those parties guided me through the record stores of New York and helped cultivate my sound. Q: You´ve been a producer and DJ for decades. How do you still find motivation and inspiration to keep things running? A: Not to over simplify it but I still think it’s fun making/playing music that people enjoy. Q: A statement in your biography says: “I like making and playing weird music for weird people”. So which weird Pierce-music can we expect soon and what´s coming up next on Items & Things? A: I have a few different projects in the works, one of my oldest friends from New York Jaesun Celebre and I have been working on stuff the last year… spooky techno, what a surprise! There are some older tracks from Marc Houle and I that are planned for Items & Things as well as a new collaboration between us. I also have a collection of “Lost Tracks” that I would like to release, music from the last years that never made it out of the studio but I really like so lets see how that goes.
