Bitcoin is holding steady heading into the middle of the week, having barely moved from US$19,100 in the past 24 hours. Ethereum is looking a bit more active, having jumped 1.3% on the day. Those in long ETH positions will be banking on a break above the US$1,300 barrier, where it's sitting just a whisker short at the time of writing. While that could happen in today's session, an extended rally beyond that is also unlikely given the neutral position of the relative strength index. Top altcoin movers in the past 24 hours included Huobi Global's HT token, which rallied another 20% following news of a majority stake acquisition by About Capital Management. HT's market capitalisation has now reentered the US$1bn club for the first time since June. Hedera (HBAR), a mid-cap blockchain network with a market cap of US$1.47bn, also performed well with a 9% rally, while decentralised finance (DeFi) projects Convex Finance and MakerDAO were among the top movers too. Downtrending altcoins this Wednesday include Bored Ape Yacht Club's APE token at -8.5%, Stella (XLM) at -4.8%, the Uniswap decentralised exchange at -3.6%, and the Cosmos network's ATOM token at -2.2%. Total global market capitalisation currently stands at US$923bn, while total value locked across all DeFi protocols is a little over US$54bn.

The crypto markets took a hit in the past 24 hours, shedding 2.4% to bring global market capitalisation down to US$919bn. Ethereum dropped 3% to US$1,280, although some bullish support was being encouraged as Tuesday morning rolled ahead. Bitcoin fared slightly better with a 1.7% dip to US$19,080, but sentiment looks firmly on the bears' side despite slight early-morning gains. There were some more pronounced losses in the altcoin space. After yesterday's impressive trading session which saw Ripple (XRP) head above the key US$0.50 support line, it took a 7% hit to its market cap this Tuesday. Cardano (ADA), Avalanche (AVAX) and Cosmos (ATOM) all fell more than 5%, while fellow other large-cap network tokens including Polygon (MATIC), Binance's BNB coin and Polkadot (DOT) fell by a couple of percentage points each. The Shiba Inu meme coin was among the worst performers, as were Ethereum Classic and Ravencoin. The top movers in the decentralised finance space were MakerDAO and Convex Finance, which both added around 2%. Meanwhile, the Seychelles-based crypto exchange Huobi Global's native token HT skyrocketed over 20% in the past day following news of a fresh capital injection from About Capital. Huobi Global's majority shareholder Leon Li recently agreed to sell his entire stake in the exchange to About Capital in exchange for investment into the exchange and a strategic advisory board comprising “leading industry figures”. As a result, HT token currently has a market cap of US$823mln.

Bitcoin is showing signs of consolidating its price at the US$19,400 mark as we head into Monday's trading session. Volumes remain comparatively low due to a risk-off investor climate, with the Fear & Greed Index firmly in the extreme fear category. The same can be said of Ethereum, which is currently changing hands at US$1,320 and showing little sign of movement. Ripple (XRP) remains one of the most buoyant altcoins at the moment, having broken through US$0.50 over the weekend and sustained that price point since. All eyes remain fixed on the pending outcome of the Securities and Exchange Commission's court action against Ripple; a positive outcome for the latter could send XRP even higher. The wider altcoin space has remained essentially flat at US$940bn, with large-caps including Solana, Cardano, BNB and Polkadot staying in a tight trading range. The Tron network's TRX coin has outperformed by adding 3% this morning, while Polygon (MATIC) is also trending upwards. Quant (QNT) was among the worst performers over the past 24 hours, with the US$1.8bn blockchain network dropping over 6%. MakerDAO continues to shine in the decentralised finance (DeFi) space, having added another 3.7% to bring its market capitalisation up to US$890mln. On the flipside, DeFi protocols Lido DAO, 1inch Network, Convex Finance and Uniswap were among the worst performers at the start of the week. Total value locked across all DeFi protocols is US$54.9bn. #ProactiveInvestors #TheCryptoReport #Bitcoin #Ethereum #RippleXRP #SEC

The cryptocurrency markets remained unchanged heading into Wednesday despite a dropping in US equities. While a dip did occur Tuesday evening, a rebound brought total market capitalisation back to just below the US$1tn barrier. Bitcoin managed to regain the US$20,000 support after heading south on Tuesday evening, while Ethereum added around 2%, bringing its exchange value above US$1,600. Avalanche's AVAX token clung onto US$20, a positive result for a project facing shock whistleblower claims. A few other network tokens added some green candlesticks, namely Cardano, Polygon and Tron. On the other hand, Solana, and Polkadot saw moderate losses, while EOS' market cap dropped nearly 5% to US$1.4tn. It has been a strong morning for decentralised finance (DeFi), with Lido, Curve and Convex Finance all adding 5% or higher, though the same could not be said for Uniswap or MakerDAO. Total volumes locked across all DeFi protocols went up almost 1%.

Bitcoin fell 2.6% to head below the key US$24,000 price point, while roughly 4% was chipped away from Ethereum's impressive recent rally. Fan engagement token Chiliz was one of the few daily risers, surging 15.5%, while decentralised blockchain network Ankr added over 7%. Blockchain networks as a whole continued to trend downwards though, with Solana, Polygon, Tron and Avalanche all encountering low-single-digit losses. Total volumes across the decentralised finance (DeFi) space also shaved off a few percent, dropping to US$67.3bn. Decentralised exchange Uniswap was one of the largest fallers in the DeFi space, losing 5% of its market cap, while Convex Finance suffered similar losses. There's no love for play-to-earn (P2E) at the moment, with the three big hitters Sandbox, Decentraland and Axie Infinity all trading flat to bearish.
