In this episode, Monica breaks down the latest research on resveratrol and bone loss prevention. While the 2020 RESHAW study in Australia showed promising results for postmenopausal women, a more recent meta-analysis tells a different story. We separate the supplement hype from the evidence-based nutrition strategies that actually protect your skeleton as you age.Key Takeaways:The RESHAW Breakdown: Why 150 mg of resveratrol led to modest gains in hip and spine density—and why you'd need a lot of wine to replicate it.10-Year Fracture Risk: How to use the FRAX calculator to estimate your likelihood of a major fracture as part of your longevity strategy. The Meta-Analysis Reality Check: Why mashing up 10 human trials suggests resveratrol might not be the "magic pill" for bone density. The "Healthspan" Levers: Why protein timing, Fibermaxxing, and Vitamin K remain the gold standards for sarcopenia prevention and bone strength.Resources:FRAX Calculator: 10-year fracture risk toolEpisode 734: Closing the calcium gap safely.Nutrition Diva is a Quick and Dirty Tips podcast, hosted by Monica Reinegal.New to Nutrition Diva? Der Osteologiekongress DVO ist das Highlight für Osteologinnen und Osteologen im Frühjahr. In der heutigen Folge geben wir Ihnen ein Update über den diesjährigen Kongress, über die Besonderheiten und die aktuellen Themen.
The lads sit down with Prof Neil Gittoes to discuss SCOOP (Screening in the Community to Reduce Osteoporotic Fractures). The study was a large UK trial (12,483 women, aged 70–85) finding that screening for fracture risk using FRAX and targeting treatment to high-risk individuals significantly reduces hip fractures. Professor Gittoes is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), and Honorary Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Birmingham where he is Head of the Centre of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (CEDAM). More importantly he is Chair of the board of trustees at the Royal Osteoporosis Society
We sit down with Dr. Paul Anderson, a nationally recognized orthopaedic spine surgeon and longtime leader in bone health, to explain how bone fragility quietly drives pseudoarthrosis, hardware failure, periprosthetic fracture, and revision surgery across orthopaedics, including spine fusion, total hip and knee arthroplasty, shoulder procedures, and sports medicine repairs. Our goal is simple: help you make bone health optimization a normal part of elective surgical planning, not an extra task that never fits the schedule. We start by clearing up a common trap: relying on a DEXA T-score alone. Dr. Anderson walks us through a more operational definition of clinical osteoporosis that combines bone mineral density, fragility fracture history, and the FRAX 10-year fracture risk calculator. That broader view catches the patients who “do not look osteoporotic” on paper but still have fragile bone and higher risk of poor outcomes after surgery. From there, we lay out a step-by-step workflow you can actually run in clinic: who to screen, when to order DEXA, how to use imaging clues like CT Hounsfield units, and why orthopaedic surgeons should feel confident interpreting DEXA quality and results. We also cover how to build referral pathways using fracture liaison services, how to think about antiresorptive vs anabolic medications, and what timing looks like when you decide to delay surgery to improve bone strength. If you want fewer failures, fewer fractures, and more predictable fixation, bone health has to be part of the plan. Subscribe and share this with a colleague.
Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 4-02-2026: Dr. Dawn briefly responds to an emailer in Aptos, advising that her numbers don't require rushing into therapy but recommending a more thorough workup. An emailer asks about her sister's osteoporosis treatment, including Reclast side effects and vitamin D levels of 28. Dr. Dawn recommends raising vitamin D to around 50, adding vitamin K2 (MK7-9) and calcium, and suggests weekly oral Fosamax as an alternative to annual Reclast infusions that cause week-long flu-like symptoms. A caller reports dizziness when sitting up in bed and recent fainting episodes during hot weather. Dr. Dawn distinguishes vestibular problems from postural hypotension — spinning dizziness when legs are still in bed suggests loose otoliths in the semicircular canals rather than blood pressure issues. She recommends the Dr. Foster vestibular exercises and increased fluid and salt intake. Cancer survival has reached a major milestone: 70% of U.S. patients now survive at least five years, up from 50% in the 1970s, thanks to reduced smoking and advances like immunotherapy and checkpoint inhibitors. An Estonian Biobank study of 67,000 adults found men's libido peaks in their early 40s while women's peaks in their 20s-30s with sharper decline around age 50, though testosterone levels begin falling in men's early 30s. Dr. Dawn frames perimenopause and menopause as natural transitions rather than diseases, explaining that perimenopausal hormone swings can actually be larger and more erratic than during fertile years. She recommends limiting caffeine (which is metabolized more slowly after menopause), alcohol, and spicy foods, and strongly advocates transdermal bioidentical hormones over oral synthetics—oral estrogen increases clotting risk 400% while transdermal carries no increased risk. An emailer asks about transcranial magnetic stimulation for depression. Dr. Dawn explains that while the technology works and shows benefit in studies, targeting remains challenging because each person's brain architecture differs based on individual developmental experiences. Researchers found that applying gamma-frequency electrical stimulation (40-90 Hz) to frontal and parietal lobes made participants more likely to choose generous money-splitting options with strangers, suggesting brain stimulation can nudge social decision-making toward altruism. A small Indian study found that daily conch shell blowing reduced sleep apnea symptoms by 34% after six months, similar to earlier didgeridoo research—blowing against resistance strengthens airway muscles and increases resting muscle tone during sleep.

STRONGER BONES LIFESTYLE: REVERSING THE COURSE OF OSTEOPOROSIS NATURALLY
In Part 1 of this powerful two-part conversation, Debi Robinson sits down with Dr. Wendy Warner to unpack how modern osteoporosis management took shape — and where it may have gone wrong. From the introduction of DEXA scans in the 1990s to the widespread use of bisphosphonates like Fosamax, this episode explores how bone density became the primary focus of care — often without fully understanding long-term consequences.Dr. Warner explains why DEXA scans measure mineral density — not bone strength — and why that distinction matters. The conversation also dives into FRAX scores, medication risks, autoimmune connections, stress hormones, and the functional medicine perspective on bone health. If you've ever felt confused or uneasy about your T-score, this episode will empower you with context. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeWhy DEXA scans measure density — not strengthThe difference between bone mineralization and bone structureHow bisphosphonates were introduced and what we later discoveredWhy “drug holidays” became necessaryThe difference between fracture risk and fracture rateWhat the FRAX score measures and how to calculate your ownWhy autoimmune conditions increase osteoporosis riskHow cortisol stimulates bone breakdownWhy stress, blood sugar instability, and inflammation matter for bone healthWhy bone loss is a whole-body issue — not just a bone issueAction StepsLook beyond your T-score. Ask whether your fracture risk matches your density score.Calculate your FRAX score to better understand 10-year fracture risk.Address chronic stress. Elevated cortisol stimulates osteoclast activity (bone breakdown).Stabilize blood sugar. Insulin resistance and inflammation impact bone remodeling.Evaluate autoimmune conditions if present — they may increase fracture risk.Assess gut health and nutrient absorption. Its a full house to talk about two kind of weird ones this week, as Power Rangers seems really confused about what a robot actually is, plus they put a medieval knight into a time travel series and... don't do any time travel? Emily also fills us in on what turn out to be some pretty big differences from the source material this time around (What if Frax was The Joker?!). Plus: Not the first time Rangers have dressed like nerds in a porno, why do we have to have both a battleizer AND a red ranger special vehicle (two toys!), for some reason there just being a regular dragon weirds out Zack, and we talk way too much about Medieval Times (The Restaurant)

Neobanks might be the quiet coordination hack that makes Visa optional. David sits down with Frax's Sam Kazemian to map the new payment stack: why cards today settle over Visa yet still onboard users into stablecoins, how Frax USD (payments) pairs with sFRAX USD (savings), and why Ethereum remains the “savings/issuance” base while specialized payment chains battle for flows. Sam unpacks Frax's white-label issuance strategy and RWA plumbing, shares an institutional DD story that highlights reliability over hype, and lays out the metrics that actually matter—card acceptance, bank deposits, chain coverage, and real-world spend. Ladies, we need to talk about the part of your body you never think about until it literally snaps —your BONES. This week I'm joined by the actual king of bones, Dr. John Neustadt, a doctor and , researcher , and supplement founder who's made it his mission to prevent the silent epidemic we call osteoporosis.
Just finished reviewing the latest JAMA 2025 article on osteoporosis by Morin et al. — a must-read for anyone managing bone health in aging adults!
We are joined once again by Fabby as she fills us in on Ultra Man and Dr Who, Emily catches us up on what's going on in Time Ranger, and Zack tells us about how much he loves when Circuit talks about Jelly Beans and other wacky comedy. Oh plus Jen tries to murder a monster in cold blood but apparently we DONT like that now, and we are filled in on what exactly Frax's deal is, and… does this season have kind of a lot of plot maybe?

Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 5-15-2025: Dr. Dawn provides a comprehensive overview of bone health, describing bones as the "silent architects" of our bodies that require ongoing care and attention throughout life. She outlines key risk factors including family history of fractures, eating disorders, hormonal changes, digestive surgeries, and medication use, while explaining how DEXA scans measure bone density through T-scores and Z-scores, recommending the FRAX risk calculator as a superior predictive tool. She shares practical strategies like weight-bearing exercise and proper vitamin supplementation (D, K2, calcium) alongside explaining the roles of osteoclasts and osteoblasts in bone turnover and how medications influence this balance. She addresses a caller's question about strontium citrate and isoflavone supplements for bone health after cancer treatment, clarifying that these differ from problematic boron and suggesting C-telopeptide or N-telopeptide testing to verify bone turnover rates beyond DEXA results. The program discusses a promising non-hormonal male contraceptive called ADAM, a dissolvable hydrogel implant shown in preliminary trials to block sperm for up to two years without serious side effects. Dr. Dawn addresses misconceptions about autism, describing it as a spectrum with diverse manifestations, explaining its neurological basis in atypical brain pruning patterns, and emphasizing it as a complex genetic vulnerability to environmental events. She evaluates a listener email about a supplement for urinary incontinence and metabolic health, warning listeners about marketing tactics and insufficient evidence behind many commercial products. Dr. Dawn examines "Fatty 15," a pentadecanoic acid supplement marketed for metabolic health, noting that while some rodent studies show promise for insulin sensitivity and liver health, human evidence remains limited compared to well-established benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. Dr. Dawn shares news about Orforglipron, a new oral GLP-1 medication in pill form for diabetes and weight management that appears as effective as injectable versions like Ozempic.. The show concludes with information about innovative plant-based transparent paperboard, a cellulose-based material that biodegrades within 300 days while offering a safer and more sustainable alternative to conventional plastics.

Ethereum has achieved groundbreaking technological success, but has it failed to properly define ETH the asset? In this episode, Frax founder Sam Kazemian joins us to discuss what he believes is Ethereum's biggest mistake: confusing the ETH asset with Ethereum the technology. Sam argues that post-EIP-1559 and Proof of Stake, ETH unintentionally shifted toward a discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation model, undermining its potential as a commodity-like store of value. We explore how the Ethereum community can reclaim a stronger narrative around ETH and why social consensus — not just tech — determines an asset's destiny. ------

Hello, Kaiju Lovers…and welcome, Listeners with Attitude! Nate takes advantage of his short time back on the Island to produce a Patreon-sponsored episode requested by first-time MIFV MAX member Andrew Wynja “The Ninja,” who picked the Power Rangers: Time Force VHS “Clash for Control.” So, naturally, Nate couldn't do this without his former Power Trip co-host Michael Hamilton. These episodes feature the first appearance of Wynja's favorite Zord, the amazing mecha-dinosaur Quantasaurus Rex (or Q-Rex), and Nate's Power Ranger “man crush,” Eric Myers, in an epic time travel adventure. But the reason Wynja chose this VHS edition of the episodes is because this was before they were censored in light of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Tune to hear about this and more! “Time for…Time Force!” Featuring Andrew Wynja as Frax. Jimmy's Notes on this episode COMING SOON!
