Invest Like the Best Key Takeaways Knowledge, money, and power are connecting in ways that we have not seen for the last 500 years “This moment is probably the most interesting moment of the last 100 years in terms of the opportunity set that is going to come from it.” – Micky Malka There is no winning and losing if you are playing an infinite game; once you are ahead, you have to change the rules of the game so that you will fall behindThe game is better played when you are trying to get ahead and not when you are ahead and trying to prevent people from passing you Every time money becomes better, people live better lives Burn the bridge that got you here; whatever got you here will not get you to the next phase Be more concentrated and have more conviction Life and business principles from Micky Malka:1. Never forget where you came from 2. Fewer decisions is best 3. Be genuine to yourself and those around you How to build a strong team: Instead of identifying a job title and then looking for a person to fill it, just look for amazing people that you want to work with, then hire them We will need streaming data and streaming money to enable automated services; people who understand both of these fields can build paradigm-shifting technologies Returns are an output metric; focus on the input and let the output take care of itself How to create magical outputs: (1) Create a team that is passionate about meeting others, engaging, and learning, and (2) Ensure that the inputs to the team's machine will make the world better Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgMy guest today is Micky Malka. This was the day that Hamish took Vic to the Cricket. Vic doesn't like cricket - as you can tell, but she went along with Hamish and followed through with all the ridiculous traditions - which (unfortunately for her) included dressing up as a frog. But, these two rebellious little green amphibians did break one major cricketing tradition that day - They did not drink. Not a Pimms and Lemonade in sight! Did the world stop and point accusatory fingers? No - in fact it was very liberating! So, is it ok to break traditions? Even if it offends your host? And, are some of the drinking traditions just peer pressure from dead people? Is it possible that we just go along with them because we always have?Yes, you've guessed it. Today is all about custom. Vic and Hamish take a look into some drinking traditions all over the world and some that happen on their doorstep. Everything from kidnapping brides in Germany to rugby games in Australia and St Patricks day in Ireland. How have these events become so synonymous with drinking and why do we feel the need to partake in the celebrations? When something is a tradition it seems so much harder for a sober person to say no - so today's episode is here to set you up and make you feel strong when faced with a long ingrained drinking custom. It's time to change the course of traditions and stop them in their rather wobbly tracks!Ribbit!#alcoholfree #sober #soberlife #sobercurious #sobriety #soberliving #cricket #recovery #sobermovement #alcoholfreelife #soberlifestyle #recoveryispossible #soberawkward #nonalcoholic #hangoverfree #addiction #sobrietyrocks #sobercommunity #wedorecover #addictionrecovery #sobermom #boozefree #mentalhealth #dryjanuary #onedayatatime #soberwomen #alcoholicsanonymous #noalcohol #cleanandsober #alcoholShow NotesVic's book is out! In July 2024, Revolut posted a whopping $2.2BN in revenue with $545M in pre-tax profit in 2023. To date, Nik has raised $1.8BN for the company from the likes of Index, Balderton, Ribbit, DST and TCV. In Today's Show with Nik Storonsky We Discuss: 1. When & Where Will Revolut IPO: What does Revolut need to do or change before they are ready to go public? When would Nik like for Revolut to go public? When they do go public, where would Nik list? Would it be in London? How does Nik respond to claims that he has moved to Dubai for tax reasons? 2. What Revolut Needs to Achieve to Hit $100BN: Why has no challenger bank won the US market yet? What will Revolut do differently to allow them to win the US market? How to Build an Execution Machine: Why does Nik believe the biggest mistake he made was hiring senior managers? What have been Nik's biggest lessons on how to hire for roles you have never hired for before? What works? What does not? How does Nik retain insane velocity of execution at scale? How much time and resources are they given? What is the tracking process to determine the success of new products? What % of new products do succeed and progress to the core app? Which product did Nik think would be massive but turned out to be a flop? What did Nik not expect to be massive and turned out to be mega hit? 5. The UK and Europe: Are We F******: The Chancellor has said we will have no growth in the UK for the next 3 years. How does it feel for Nik to grow Revolut in this environment? If Nik could advise Keir Starmer on how to turn the UK around, what would he say? Why does Nik believe the US has created so many more $100BN companies? Why does Nik believe that work/life imbalance is the secret to success and happiness?

Pedro Franceschi is the Co-Founder and CEO @ Brex, the AI-powered spend platform with tens of thousands of customers, including DoorDash, Coinbase, Robinhood and Roblox. Pedro has raised over $1.2BN for the company from the likes of Greenoaks, Ribbit, DST, Bond and YC. The latest reported valuation was $12.3BN. Before Brex, Pedro was the first person to “jailbreak” the iPhone 3G in Brazil and co-founded payments company Pagar.me with Dubugras when he was 15. The Challenge is in Your Own Head: Why does Pedro believe all founders underestimate their own mental health? When was Pedro most anxious/depressed in the Brex journey? Why? What have been the single biggest needle movers for increasing his own mental health? How does Pedro advise other founders struggling with their own mental health? 2. How does he advise founders entering this process? Why does Pedro believe it is not that easy for founder to just pivot to a new idea? How did YC almost miss out on investing in Brex, now a $12BN company, due to the original idea? 4. Brex vs Ramp: Who Wins: How does Pedro feel when I say, "Ramp have gotten ahead on marketing and visibility"? Why does Pedro believe that "Ramp is a marketing company"? What does he mean when he says "great products will win over time"? Why does Pedro fundamentally disagree with Ramp's positioning of the best companies focus on saving and their giving away their software for free? How does this market play out over time? Winner take all or gains split across several?
