Brittany is a mom of two, a dedicated nurse practitioner specializing in pulmonary and sleep, and a certified pediatric sleep consultant through CPSM. Her interest in baby sleep took root six years ago with the birth of her son, but it wasn't until her daughter arrived three years later that she fully immersed herself in understanding infant sleep. Both of Brittany's children struggled with sleep early on, which led her to spend countless hours figuring out effective sleep strategies. Brittany's talent for improving sleep became clear as friends began seeking her advice with their own babies. Often, she would think, "I should really find a way to make a business out of this." In February 2024, Brittany decided to take her passion to the next level by enrolling in Center for Pediatric Sleep Management's sleep consultant certification program. She officially launched her sleep consulting business in March 2024 and hasn't looked back since. On this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast Brittany shares: - What it's like for her to grow a successful sleep consulting business while working full time and simultaneously raising two young children. - How she leverages her medical credentials to stand out in the field - The work she is doing to attract her ideal client so her business can work for her! Everyone loves (or hates!) a good cry it out story. I am asked pretty regularly whether or not Center for Pediatric Sleep Management teaches the Cry It Out method. The answer to this question is that at CPSM we teach all sleep training methods. We believe that parents are best set up for success when they are coached through a method that most closely aligns with their parenting style. Sometimes this means we coach our clients through a gradual and parent present approach, and other times we are coaching parents through more traditional sleep training methods. When you meet a family where they are, and coach them through methods that feel safest and comfortable for them, that's when you have the most success. In this episode, I tell a cry it out story that all the anti-sleep training folks will love to hate. Sometimes all a baby needs is just a little bit of space. Tara Dakin Sauer, LMFT, PMH-C is a CPSM graduate passionate about the impact of infant sleep on parental mental health! Tara's therapy practice, Renew Psychotherapy, specializes in treating trauma that occurs or resurfaces during pregnancy or postpartum. Tara's consulting business, a Renewed Momma, merges her expertise as a newborn care specialist, sleep consultant, and perinatal mental health professional to provide trauma-informed sleep programs that are uniquely tailored to meet the needs of moms experiencing significant anxiety.Tara is also excited about combining her knowledge and skill set related to both maternal mental health and infant sleep to help other sleep-based postpartum professionals feel more confident in supporting their clients' mental and emotional well-being. This newest part of her business is dedicated to providing education, resources, and collaborative care services to support sleep consultants, NCSs, and postpartum doulas in being able to more holistically promote the physical and emotional wellness of both babies and parents! On this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast Tara and I discussed how to best combat the negativity surrounding sleep training.Tara shares:- That the intense mom shaming that happens on both sides of the sleep training debate is almost always rooted in a parent's insecurities about their own choices they are making for their family.- That a parent's discomfort with the crying during sleep training is often less about the child's discomfort and more so about the parent's own discomfort with the noise.- As sleep consultants its most important to show up to these conversations with confidence. When you truly believe that the support you are providing your clients is what is ultimately best for the child and the family as a whole, it's way easier to navigate these conversations.Links: Psychotherapy Website: https://renewpandc.com/Sleep Consulting Website: https://arenewedmomma.com/Blog Post on Sleep Training and Attachment: https://arenewedmomma.com/postpartum-professionalsResources for Postpartum Professionals: https://arenewedmomma.com/resources-for-postpartum-professionalsIf you would like to learn more about becoming a Certified Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultant or check out our website https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry
Sometimes we are our own biggest roadblocks on this journey through entrepreneurship. We have big ideas, we dream up big plans, but then our own self-doubt and fear of failure creeps in and we hold ourselves back.I was chatting with a prospective CPSM student who expressed that her only hesitation in enrolling in the program is the business piece. She has never started her own business and that feels scary and overwhelming. She knows she will be great at supporting families, and she is passionate about healthy sleep habits for children, but what if she fails? Well, you can't succeed if you don't even try!On this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast I share:- That the irony around fear of failure is that if you are so afraid to fail that you don't even try, then you failed before even getting started!- How we can relate these feelings we have as sleep consultants back to our clients. When our clients are finally ready to make a change, and try to teach their child to fall asleep in a new way, that's when they can have a really meaningful transformation!- When you say yes to yourself, that's the very first step on your new adventure. It's sometimes scary, always thrilling, and entirely worth it!If you would like to learn more about becoming a Certified Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultant or check out our website https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry
