Calling it “technical” doesn't change what Canadians are experiencing. The economy has shrunk in 3 of the last 4 quarters, including two in a row. Other G7 countries face the same global pressures, yet none are in recession. This is the result of bad policy choices: higher taxes, anti-development laws, and growing deficits. Do you share your takeaway, not full-on Smithy level, but Thom admits she's not sharing her gyozas, while Dunn's a bit more generous… or does it depend what you've ordered? Be honest now, did you share the kids' Easter chocolate… or just “help them out” a little too much? We get into the world of Vinted, what on earth is acceptable packaging, and when does it just become just wrong?! Plus, what do you do when you've only got one loo in the house and your teenager's in there with their phone like they've moved in permanently. We also play a round of Break A Take and share the little things people have done this week that made us question... life as we get older And Dr Dunn has discovered a spray to stop that “over 40s” smell… apparently it's a thing, which is slightly concerning for both of us. No burping this episode - but there is mention of a Chode and a d'wang! Think girth
Birthdays should be a celebration of life, but they are often met with resistance as we get older. As society becomes more and more obsessed with youth, we dismiss the belief that midlife has anything of value to offer us. But what if the second half of life includes much more than aches and pains? What if midlife and beyond hold the potential for deeper curiosity, joy, purpose, and relationships? When we finally give zero f#cks, we can start living life on our own terms. This is the gift of getting older if we choose to accept it. As we take in the early signs of spring, consider the beauty ready to bloom in your life. Embrace your age, embrace your one wild, precious life! What am I reading?Letting Magic In by Maia Tollhttps://bookshop.org/a/111301/9780762480418The Untethered Soul by Micheal A. Food prices have gone up 4.5 percent in the year to February, with beef mince up a whopping 23.2 percent to $24.46 per kilogram. Fruit and vegetables also shot up by 9.4 percent, and meat, poultry and fish were up 7.5 percent annually. Checkpoint has also been monitoring the cost of everyday groceries across the different supermarket chains for the past four years, we did the same today. Bella Craig reports.
We need to talk about inflation, because inflation is making me pretty sure now that the National Party needs to rethink its plan for this election. We've just had the food inflation data out today. No surprise - food has gone up in price again in the year to February, up 4.5 percent. The biggest increase in a single item was mince. It went up 23.2 percent. That is the highest recorded jump in mince in two decades. Mince is a reasonably big deal in this data, I reckon, because mince - and sausages, obviously - is one of those bits of meat we go to when we're feeling the pinch, right? If you can't afford the sirloin steak, you go for the mince instead. So if the so-called cheaper option is becoming that much more expensive, well, that tells you how hard it's going to be for families to make ends meet. And it's, of course, not just the mince. Everything - everything - has gone up in price. There are a few items that have come back down but for the most part, the things you really need - not the snacks, the essentials - have gone up. And this is going to get worse. What's been happening in and around the country for the past 17 days will, without a shadow of a doubt, push food prices up even further. It'll start with vegetables because they were already in the ground. Then it'll move on to things that take longer to produce - wheat-based products, things like bread that take time to grow. Meat will go up. Everything will go up. Because of the lack of access to urea, fertiliser prices are rising, so on-farm costs go up. Then there's the fuel cost of getting produce from the farm to - I don't know - let's say the bakery, and from the bakery to the supermarket. And that increased cost is going to land on us. There's a lag effect here. What's going on now will hit us every single month for months to come. They're talking about six months - but if they're saying six months, you can assume it'll be longer than that. Now, the Nats' whole strategy for this election was that they'd be fine because the economy would improve, we'd all feel richer, we'd thank them for making the cost-of-living issue go away, their polling would go up and they'd come through at the election on November 7. That is not going to happen. The cost-of-living crisis will not be over in November. It will keep hitting us through the things we can't avoid - petrol for many, but food for everyone. So the Nats need a new plan - one that requires them to actually do something, rather than just waiting for voters to feel richer. Because we're not going to. Fra Diavlo's Recipes for the Damned started as a joke — what if we made a death metal record where the lyrics were just someone reading a recipe? We couldn't lift actual recipes for copyright reasons, so instead we wrote original lyrics structured like instructions and twisted them into brutality. That's how you get titles like “Gnocchi Guillotine,” “Boil the Priest,” “Mince the Heretic,” and “Sous-Vide Sacrifice.” Because the AI took “death metal” literally, it leaned into classic genre tropes — anti-religion imagery, ritual sacrifice, damnation — so the kitchen becomes a cathedral of fire. “Béarnaise Bloodletting,” “Pan-Sear Damnation,” “Al Dente Execution,” even “Last Course: Cannibal Crème Brûlée” — it's culinary language weaponized. It's absurd, theatrical, and self-aware. That first record is where Fra Diavlo stopped being a bit and became a fully formed concept: cooking as ritual, metal as satire, dinner as damnation.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This week, we spoke to former deputy city attorney Scott Lindsay. Voters soundly rejected Lindsay's former boss, Republican Ann Davison, last November, but Lindsay argues that many of her prescriptions for addressing crime and disorder were sound—including "stay out" zones for people accused of using or possessing drugs in public, extra penalties for people who commit misdemeanors like shoplifting over and over, and the elimination of community court, which Lindsay called "a complete disaster and shame and stain on the record of city attorney [Pete] Holmes."Although the city has arguably been ruled by a moderate-to-conservative supermajority for at least the last four years, Lindsay says they failed to accomplish all their goals, in part, because former mayor Bruce Harrell wouldn't always get with the program. Seattle, Lindsay argues, still has "radically too few police officers," "no consensus about what to do about our most pressing public disorder problems," and neighborhoods that have been "destroyed" by people using and selling drugs in public. PubliCola has frequently pushed back on the notion that cracking down on so-called "prolific offenders"—the subject of a report Lindsay wrote for the Downtown Seattle Association in 2019—is a solution to the problems facing neighborhoods like Little Saigon that have faced decades of neglect and disinvestment. Lindsay agreed—and said that isn't the point. "More people will die every year of fentanyl and meth overdose than will be successful in getting out of the life and getting into treatment and turning their lives around," Lindsay said. "I'm not saying give up, but I'm saying we need to balance our treatment approach with, how do we stop the havoc that these folks create? And one effective way at stopping the havoc that they create is to constantly disrupt. Use legal tools to disrupt their behavior. Convince them that being on the streets at 12th and Jackson smoking fentanyl is going to get you incarcerated. Even if that's for eight or 12 hours that is in effect, can be an effective tool at disrupting the problem behavior and saving neighborhoods. Little Saigon is gone, but others are on the brink."Listeners will probably have strong feelings about this conversation, which also includes a discussion of Police Chief Shon Barnes, community court, and the "radical abolitionists," in Lindsay's words, at King County's Department of Public Defense, which provides attorneys for indigent defendants. Our editor is Quinn Waller. Beef mince has gone up more than 19% in a year, according to Stats NZ figures. Other potential pie ingredients have also jumped in price. On average a 500 gram block of butter has gone up more than 42%, while 1kg of cheese has gone up almost 30% in price. John Willams from Auckland's world famous Muzza's Pies says for now they are trying to make savings else where, and spoke to Lisa Owen.
Stats NZ says groceries, especially dairy and meat, drove a 5 percent annual increase, with mince up nearly 20 percent. Cibus Catering managing director Peter Kennet spoke to Corin Dann.

I'm finally behind the microphone again, bringing you all the cozy Christmas vibes as we countdown to Christmas 2025. Today, I read an Irish Christmas Story called "Frank Forrest's Mince-Pie" by Fr. Patrick Augustine Sheehan. It tells the story of a young man named Frank who has some strange Christmas dreams about Mince pies, an act of kindness - and of course, what Victorian Christmas story would be complete without some ghostly visitors! I also recommend a book of Christmas stories and share some Irish Christmas traditions! You can tell John's been on holiday because he starts the show by giving a promotion to someone who doesn't even work on the show. The mood is high. And he's come back a new man. He's Colin now. An even more chill and organised version of Johnny JR. He's the opposite of pura vida - i.e. not the same as his travel companions, who included someone who lost their bank card before they set off and a second bank card before they returned. No surprises for who that could be.So expect a bumper John Wins Again Costa Rica Edition feat. bums.Plus there's a grovelling apology from Elis after he dug out a valued friend, reminding us of the important phrase “putting percentages on curries isn't very fun”.Have you been on a shoe string stag? Well send it to elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk or WhatsApp it over on 07974 293 022.

If content were a wrist, chat were the blood flowing through the veins of that wrist, and today's episode of Elis and John were the finger, then all 3 would be in perfect harmony. For this is an episode with its finger firmly on the nation's pulse. What else is the nation talking about than mullets, Van Morrison, dressing up your kids, and a pile of tyres on a farm near Narberth? It's an episode that really does cover the gamut of human experience; it contains multitudes. It also contains a pink-t-shirt-wearing John Robins, who's decided to wear a jolly colour in order to tell his subconscious that things are better than they seem. And it contains Elis going beyond the human and trying to Cymru Connect to an email. If you also have your finger on the pulse of chat and want to contribute your wares, send them to elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk, or WhatsApp the show on 07974 293 022.
