This week, we are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. We once again discuss how a band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. Dive in with us as we discuss and listen to some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members, along with Offshoots, which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. We hope that we turn you on to something new. Songs this week include: Alcatrazz – “Painted Lover” from Disturbing The Peace (1985) Subrosa – “World's Greatest Lover” from Never Bet The Devil Your Head (1997) Black Swan – “The Fire And The Flame” from Paralyzed (2026) THE LAST ROCKSTARS – “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (Paris Mix)” from THE LAST ROCKSTARS (2022) Circus Diablo - “Mad Parade” from Circus Diablo (2007) DREAMCAR – “We Rats” from Dream EP (2024) Swedish Metal Aid – “Give A Helpin' Hand” from Give A Helpin' Hand - single (1985) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! Acts 17:1-15 | Andrew Murch | Paul was no stranger to adversity. In fact, as you follow Paul's journey, you will likely conclude that Paul has made obstacles, setbacks, and persecution his friend. In this section of text, we will see this same theme running its course as Paul shares the message of the Gospel, not knowing whether the seed will sprout into salvation, suffering, or both. May God use his Word this week to strengthen you with a humbled resolve to trust our God is working in every circumstance. When all seems thwarted, God is often doing his most significant work. As believers, our calling to the mission of sharing the Gospel to a broken and desperate world is as potent as it was for the Apostle Paul. Whether it be to our families, our neighbors, coworkers, or perfect strangers – it is the distinct honor of the saved to partner with the Holy Spirit in proclaiming the good news of salvation through Jesus' work on the cross.

The Geopolitical Pivot Podcast is back for good with a returning episode discussing China's maritime militia and fishing vessels in the South China Sea as tensions continue to increase between Beijing and Washington DC. The usage of these maritime militia serves to provide China with plausible deniability while carefully crafting its own strategic maritime advantage in the South China Sea. Seeking to make the 9 Dash Line a reality, Beijing will continue to use maritime militias and fishing vessels as the main maritime force to address territorial disputes. However, there are major institutional problems such as chain of command and financing that prohibits the PRC's maritime militias from becoming significant professional additions to the PRC's military-security apparatus. This will only increase tensions and the probabilities of instability. It is good to be back!

Preaching for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Karen Seaborn offers a reflection on disturbing the peace in order to achieve true peace for all: "Today's gospel tells us that Jesus came to set the world on fire. And he calls us, his disciples, to continue the work he started. He never told us working toward peace and unity would be easy. Or immediate, as much as he wished it was so. Jesus had to trust that new life would emerge from the conflict that led to his passion and death. So too are we called to trust—that when we set a fire for justice, inclusiveness, and radical love, new life will emerge." Karen Seaborn is a member of the retreat team at King's House Retreat Center in Belleville, IL, where she preaches quiet retreats, serves as Spiritual Director on directed retreats, and presents weekend retreats for married couples with her husband, Scott. Additionally, Karen offers parish workshops and days/evenings of reflection throughout the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. She is an adjunct professor at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Mo. She holds a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching degree, a Master of Divinity degree, and a Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. Visit www.catholicwomenpreach.org/preaching/08142022 to learn more about Karen, to read her preaching text, and for more preaching from Catholic women.

It's rare to see the Lord “fighting mad.” But it's just as important to understand what He's fighting for. There are moments in our lives when the Lord “disturbs the peace” in order to make it possible for us or others to experience true, substantial peace. This weekend, in Matthew 21:1-17, we'll look at a story that exemplifies this. There are layers to this story and multiple points of intersection for our lives.

King, Sun, Motown & Stax - all independent record companies that helped shape the course of popular music. Another such label, 415 Records, emerged in the late Seventies out of San Francisco. Originally, the company just covered the burgeoning punk movement that was happening there, but eventually they expanded, releasing an album by psychedelic pioneer Roky Erickson, then landing videos on MTV with Romeo Void, Translator and the Red Rockers. All of this is documented in Disturbing the Peace - 415 Records and the Rise of New Wave written by Bill Kopp from HoZac Books. Kopp is a lifelong collector, musician and journalist who's first book was called Reinventing Pink Floyd: From Syd Barrett to the Dark Side of the Moon.We chat about how he tracked down almost 100 interviews for the book, how he obtained much of the photos, band posters, etc, that help flesh out the story, and the relationship 415 had with Columbia Records that had mixed results at best.

During our conversation, he talked about the changes the city of Atlanta has gone through over the years, jumping off the porch when he was 12, his mother being active in the streets when he was growing up, getting the name Scrappy by having to defend himself, making lyrical rap when he first started, making “Headbussa” when he was just 15 years old, getting into a fight while performing the song, signing with BME, meeting Lil Jon after he signed, says that Lil Jon was more focused on Trillville than him, not getting any help on the double-album with Trillville, getting into an altercation with the police at a concert in Orlando, getting hit in the face with a bottle at one of his shows, everybody turning their back on him while he recovered, 50 Cent reaching out to him, doing a joint-venture with Lil Jon & G-Unit for his debut album ‘Bred 2 Die, Born 2 Live', not being happy with the way the album was marketed, signing with Disturbing The Peace, explains why he never released an album with them, walking off a Tyler Perry movie set to do the music video for “Helicopter”, not wanting to do ‘Love & Hip-Hop' at first, discovering Crime Mob, his new single “GA/FL” with Tom G, upcoming album, and much more! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dirtyglovebastard/support
