Today on the sisterhood of Sweat, I'm talking to DJ Caruso. Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, Caruso came west to play tennis and study Television Production at Pepperdine University. Interned at Disney Studios in the Product Placement department and later hooked up with Director John Badham, who mentored him into a second-unit director, after Badham lost his 2nd-unit director Rob Cohen to a first-unit directing career. He hooked up with writer Scott Rosenberg, who penned a short film for him entitled, Cyclops, Baby. The film helped launch Caruso's directing career. On this episode of Walk in Faith, host Craig Syracusa is joined by director DJ Caruso to discuss his latest film, Mary, set to release on Netflix. The film delves into the life of Mary Magdalene, the mother of Jesus Christ, delivering a story that promises to inspire audiences, regardless of their faith or beliefs. While the film has sparked some controversy, its overarching message of unconditional love shines through. Watching Mary, I saw only love—no theological disputes, no issues with scripture or casting—just love. And love is exactly what our society, culture, and hearts are yearning for. Let this film and Mary's story reignite the love that has the power to unite us all.
